I quickly learned that places like Uncle Bobs are where you really need to go. Here's why. 1. These are passionate musicians that know what they are talking about. 2. Support local business!! 3. Super awesome staff of really helpful guys. 4. SELECTION! This place is unassuming from the outside but once you're in there and see the size and yes, you can go upstairs, you'll be looking around for a while. They have a huge ukulele selection. I had to hold back because I already have a big collection of instruments to my boyfriend's chagrin. More recently, I needed to get my ukulele repaired because the amp hookup wasn't working. The repair guy pointed out other things that I thought were normal that could be easily fixed. I love how thorough he was and the repair was inexpensive. Now that I'm getting back into playing and performing, I will definitely be visiting the Brass Bell more often!

I used to love the service here but I had an unfortunate incident in where I had to return an item I bought & only 11 days after I bought it & I was made to feel about two inches tall when I asked for the favor. Im a disabled Iraq veteran on a fixed income & I had some bad luck fall upon me & I was made to feel like I was going to bankrupt the business but fortunately the owners wife intervened & allowed my return. I cane back the next month & I bought a bass off of them, which cost 4x as much as the item I returned, & I did it as a thanks for helping me the prior month but instead of thank you, i got a sarcastic comment from the owner about if I was going to return the guitar too! I already paid for the bass otherwise I was ready to give it right back but I just kept my mouth shut despite being highly insulted. That was the last time I set foot i.n Lincoln Music House I hope their business gets better because they turned me off after going there for over 35 years. It's a shame because with Uncle Bob's going out of business, there aren't a lot of mom & pop stores left but customer service is #1 in my book & they definitely drove me away with their poor attitudes & it's a shame. Still, if you need an affordable instrument or need some maintenance on one, they do offer quality in both. The guy at the repair desk was condescending, unhelpful, and downright rude at times…read more I purchased a beautiful PRS and some elixir strings around the holidays, and noticed the action was way high and even after trying to change it myself, it was still not to my liking. I missed the return policy so I was fine paying for whatever was wrong with it. I drove half an hour to this location to get it checked out, and the guy was super condescending to me the whole time. I'm a young guy, an intermediate player, and I don't know much about the technical side of guitars, but damn, was he really making me feel stupid. Dude was rolling his eyes at me every time I said I didn't know something. I bought a kapo and a guitar strap, and the guy checking me out was on the phone with someone else the whole time. If I'm going to buy a guitar I'd honestly rather drive twice the distance to the Chicago location. The guys over there are dope and ACTUALLY helpful. Anyways, support local businesses.

I've had some good, some great, and some indifferent experiences with the music conservatory…read more A couple of experiences that has me marking them down: My first experience with the conservatory was signing up for a private lesson. I show up and it's the teachers last week with them (they assigned the teacher). Not only that, but they were about to enter a "break" and there wasn't any way to take something the next week. Not a very good first impression. I ended up giving up on a class because it was impossible to find parking. The class was right after work, and just I didn't have an extra 20-30min to spend looking for parking. Parking is the absolute biggest headache with their East Side location. I'm in a class right now that is constantly left scrounging for a room. Seriously, if you advertise a class at a certain time the room should not ever be double booked and it should not be an ongoing issue. I hate their breaks. As an adult, if I enjoy a hobby I want to continue. To have an 8 or 16 week thing and then a big break is a pain. Even worse is when the private lessons are affected by their breaks too. On the bright side of things: There are some excellent instructors teaching here. I've had good experiences with most of the classes and teachers. Most of them are at least semi pros. Compared to other classes in the area I feel you get your monies worth here (considering they are a bit more expensive than the other options this is a good thing). It's possible to try something in a class and then get really serious with it with private lessons and such. Some of the other programs around the community leave you hanging after the intro class is done.

My aunt received a certificate as a piano teacher there over 80 years ago, and our daughter studied both piano and flute there with memorable teachers over 25 years ago. Such an institution needs to have reviews that appreciate its broader history and its contributions to the Milwaukee cultural scene. While practical minor snafus should be corrected, the pride that Milwaukee has in this place should be celebrated.
