I have delt with this store many times over the years and have always had a positive experience. I sold many items and have purchased many items as well. My most recent purchase was a classical hybrid guitar that I like and am happy with. When I purchased it the guy who sold it told me to bring it back in a few months and get the strings changed and we will check the setup and make sure everything it ok. I called to make an appointment and the person on the phone told me you no longer setup guitars. So what am I supposed to do. I guess I will buy my future guitars somewhere else if you are not going to support the products you sell. You really want me to take the guitar I bought from you somewhere else? my husband shops at music go round in kenosha and greenfield several times a month and he loves these stores! he plays, restores, and collects electric guitars. what people need to understand is that these stores have a lot of expenses. from the buildings that cost 10s of thousands a month in leases and utilities, to staffing enough employees to prevent equipment from being constantly stolen, to buying gear, it's expensive to own a store! they often sell their gear for half of what it cost new. you don't get rich owning a used gear music store! these stores are dissapearing! soon there wont be places to go play all kinds of instruments before you buy them! support your local stores! when you buy from a local store you see the condition of what you are buying and you can play it to see if it is comfortable. their business model is to not harass customers, if you want help just ask! they leave you alone to browse at your own pace, with no pushy salesman! If you want to buy a musical instrument as a gift, it is extremely important to make sure it fits the person you are getting it for! For example each guitar can be very different in the shape of the neck and what size hands it's best for. That's why we need these local stores. Buy a guitar online and give it to a child and it may hurt their hands and cause them to give up playing. Bring your child to Music Go Round and let them hold the guitar and ask a salesman to show them how to position their hands, then you can see which one is best for your child. I spent years looking for a clean condition stock Yamaha DX7. The local ones I found online were badly neglected and most of the clean ones were grossly overpriced and outside of the US Brian Szymanski at Music Go Round in Wisconsin advertised one in great condition at a great price. I bought it and to my shocking surprise when it arrived it was a NEAR MINT condition one!! The kind you find once in many years (not a single visible scratch on it) Music Go Round exceeded my expectations! You're gonna miss me when I'm gone! To quote a ridiculously overly-enunciated yet catchy non-rock tune, I would totally miss Music Go Round if it were to disappear, and hence I up my review to four stars. I love stopping in to play basses and guitars with no salesperson hassling me. I like looking at old keyboards and drum machines and effects pedals, then looking up to see if the pricing online is competitive. Gotta try before you buy! Answering the guy who claims they don't ship. Just drop them an email and they'll change the item from pick-up only to shipping. It's unlikely they'd ship a grand piano, or a set of drums. But they'd probably accommodate your request if the item in question isn't that big. I bought a half rack that was set to pick-up only. The staff changed it to shipping, and I was able to order it the next day. The item I ordered got here in about a week, in good shape. It was well packed too. I'm happy with the service overall. The staff was helpful but very busy, I ended up spending over an hour here but really only for about 20 minutes worth of attention. Stopped in looking for a child size electric guitar for my 7 year old son who just started playing. I didn't want to spend a ton, and had done some online research but I really don't know much about guitars... My wife, son and I looked around the store a bit, found a few small guitars and were checking them out. Then Josh asked if he could help us. Within a few minutes, he had my son hold a few guitars to determine what size would work best for him. He steered us towards a couple that would be appropriate, at different price points, explained why, and even went in the back to get another guitar that they had just taken in but wasn't displayed yet. He tuned up the guitars quick, set us up in a little practice room with an amp (good call, my son's playing ain't very pretty yet) and gave us some time to try things out. Josh checked back with us a couple times- making sure we're OK and answering questions without pressuring us. Also explained that their guitar tech goes through each one to set it up to give the best performance it can, and installs a new set of strings. We ended up buying the more expensive one (Ibanez Mikro) because it really did sound better. I really appreciated the high level of service, especially since we weren't looking at expensive gear. I'll definitely return when it's time for more guitar gear. The guitar we bought was about 1/3 less expensive than buying new. Getting knowledgeable advice and knowing that it was tested and set up properly, along with getting a 60 day warranty made this a lot more comfortable transaction than buying used on craigslist or facebook marketplace. read more

I'm not a music person but my husband is, and he's been on the hunt to rebuild a drum kit. That search has taken us to both MGR locations (here and Kenosha) - here's how they broke down: *Greenfield definitely has more stock but a fair amount is in the "promotional/student" category. The drum kits in particular looked more beat up than what Kenosha had. *At both locations, staff seemed really disinterested. We were never offered help or asked if we had questions. It might be their model to let people do their own thing? *For what we wanted, their price was actually really good. They had a matching snare (in really good shape) to my husband's kit and the price was much lower than eBay comparables. They do stock some new stuff along with the used items, and I think they post much of their inventory online (at least on higher ticket items) so you know what they have before you make the trip. If you buy frequently, they have punch cards which offer a rebate after 10 purchases. I think if you know your equipment and what you need, there are deals to be had. read more

These guys are great! Saw a nice used Squier Telecaster Custom 2 on their website so I brought a couple guitars down that I don't use anymore to see if I could trade them in. Super impressed with how friendly the staff was during the process. Gave me a very fair trade-in value for my two guitars and the setup they did on the Tele I bought is simply the best. In one week it has become my favorite guitar to play due to how well it was setup. Now I want to bring my Strat there and see if they can replicate the same magic setup! Will definitely be a go to place for me in the future. read more

I dig this place! And I even worked at one of their competitor's stores. I love how hands off the employees are. My number one shopping pet peeve is when someone approaches me immediately when I enter the store. Give me time to browse and I'll probably spend more money. If I need your assistance, I will ask for it. The selection here is always changing, and therefore always interesting. For those who complained about how much money they offered you for your used gear: that is how literally every resale shop works. Consider how much time it would take you to sell your gear yourself (taking pictures, online posting, potential shipping, etc) and remember that someone else is doing all of that for you. Super friendly staff! Seriously, some of my favorite retail staff I've encountered in the Milwaukee area. They may be hands off salespeople, but if you ask them about music related things, they will definitely talk to you about it. Love it! Will return. read more

I have had two bad experiences with this location. The first one was a Fender Telecaster I purchased two years ago that wasn't as described, it was a parts guitar, advertised as a 52 U.S. Vintage reissue. It had a reissue neck , but an aftermarket body, when I confronted them, they kept saying it was sold as is and it's my fault more or less, thankfully I used a credit card and I returned it and got my money back. Well I figured the store would have gotten better, "WRONG". I contacted them in regards to a fender two button footswitch, it is on their website for sale but when you go to do a checkout, it is local pickup only. So I emailed them and they state that I have to wait till March 3rd to purchase the item because they try to sell the item locally first. So I asked them if I can put it on layaway, their reply, no. This store is unprofessional, I am done with this B.S. Thankfully Dave's Guitar Shop had it, I recommend going to Dave's before music go round, better service with Dave's, and Dave has 3 locations in Wisconsin read more

After months of searching online for a 1995 Peavey Precision Bass like the one I had in high school, this location had it! I knew it wouldn't be in the best shape but the price was very fair. They even called me to make sure I still wanted it and described the condition. They also shipped it all the way to Oregon in less than a week. The bass itself works much better than I expected! Music Go Round has good, bad, and ugly. The good is that you can occasionally find some really good deals here, but you need to be aware of street prices, ebay prices, cl prices, and sales of mail order new equipment using coupon codes. Most of their deals aren't on the instrument side of things, but with accessories. For instance, I picked up a nice pair of pro audio quality Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones with a street price of around $100 new for $37 out the door. Their instrument prices however are almost all overpriced for what they are. Some badly and some just higher than ebay, CL, etc. They are very unwilling to deal either. It's either take their price or hit the road in many cases. If everything were fairly priced this would be cool, but a lot of their pricing is as if the instrument were in good to mint condition. Unfortunately the nature of this place is that it's where beat up instruments go to die. I'd rate most of their instruments at fair to poor. They have a lot of stuff that looks great on their web site, but when you look at it up close there are cracks, chips, rust, and other warning signs of an instrument you should just skip. I'm not talking the little road wear dings that instruments get and is normal, but real problems with the instruments. This is frustrating, especially if you're looking for something nicer than the $100 I want to be a rock star teenie bopper instruments. For the same price you can find better deals without the problems elsewhere. So this place is very much caveat emptor. Truthfully, if they'd haggle a bit I'd rate them at a three or four, but their prices are really high for beat to crap instruments that they pay almost nothing for. read more

LOTS of various kinds of instruments at all sorts of prices. I like their selection of used instruments and gear. They have a lot of mixing boards and mics in the back at prices that are much more affordable than one would think. I tried to trade my guitar in, and unfortunately (and not surprisingly) I learned that they give you about 40% of what they would sell it for. They don't do much better on trade-ins. I was surprised by some of the off-brand guitars they have. I'd never heard of Hagstrom guitars until I saw them at Music Go Round. They also carry Carvin and Dan Electro (yes, apparently they made some odd, plastic-looking guitars-not just cheap pedals). read more

I'm a drummer. I drum. Par-rumppa-pum-pum. I can only speak to the percussion selection here. In general, It's pretty good. Not as good as the Kenosha store, but still good. I think this store has more in the mid to low-end selection of drums, cymbals, and hardware. Although their selection is always changing, their handful of professional level drum kits never seems to. Same goes for the hardware. Some of the best percussion values can be had in the hardware. I bought some mid-level Yamaha boom cymbal stands for half of what they go for new. The condition was so good, I'm not convinced that they were ever used. They have a solid selection of cymbals, but their prices on those are just average. This store seems to focus mostly on guitars. There must be a couple hundred available to try, if you can get someone to help you. The help here is pretty "hands-off". Maybe it's company policy as I've experienced this at both stores. Nearly everything in the store is available on-line. Take a look at their website first for current selection. read more

My second guitar was purchased here in 2005. I hadn't been back since 2006 as I wasn't living in Wisconsin and hadn't had need of going to the Milwaukee area. My fiance and I stopped in here recently and WOW has it improved! It wasn't bad before, but it's really well organized and laid out now. The prices are as they always have been: reasonable. Snagged a moderately used Audioengine D1 Premium 24-bit DAC for a great price! It was promptly shipped to me here in New York within a business week's time after they quality tested it for me. Email updates kept me up-to-speed on the processing and shipment status. The product info didn't exactly mention what was going to be included other than the DAC itself, but I was glad to find that it came with everything it needed in order to function. Interesting inventory of instruments. The staff know the gear and are friendly on the phone. Music go round's used instruments are often 30-60% less than new instruments. (Im cheap and proud of it) When there's no traffic, I love making the drive up from Chicago. All of their gear is listed on the website, so I'll call first and have the staff set aside something for me. Their inventory typically has a good mix of high end and low end gear and the selection changes frequently. read more

My drums were packed so bad there was damage to a bass drum lug and the internal muffles. I brought this to the attention of the store and asked them to call me immediately however after 2 weeks no one has taken the time to contact me. A replacement lug and an apology were owed to me and would have made things right but they've made no attempt at all. Once they got my money they couldn't care about me or my vintage ludwigs. What an awful way to treat a customer. Never do business with this store if you believe in customer satisfaction because it doesn't exist. Very unprofessional and very disappointing.
