I was matched with Xy. I love her energy and passion for music. She is an incredible teacher! I've purchased several guitars, and drums from this location and appreciate the expertise of the staff. I recently bought a used Digitech BP90 and boy lemme tell you, this has to be the worst way I could've EVER spent my money, and it's not the fact that it's an old used pedal, it's because this very Guitar Center listed it as good. Keep in mind, they rate things as "good" because it's fully functional with some cosmetic wear, which they are partially right about since it did have pretty neat sticker on the front and some velcro on the back, but when I received it and plugged it in it barely worked. The right footswitch wasn't functional, along with the expression pedal which was completely dead, the left footswitch had maybe 2 clicks left until it died. So I called this Guitar Center earlier today and asked if I can get a partial refund to help pay for repair costs since I plan on keeping it to fix it up. The guy said "sorry, we can't do that you didn't pay for pro coverage". I know that's a lie it was listed as fully functional and I received it as barely functional. I can't be completely negative though, the guy did sound very nice and respectful. So I'm over here, feeling scammed after being sold a piece of junk that was listed as the complete opposite of complete junk. Never buy from used Guitar Center, if you want used gear just go to Reverb. I also recommend Zzounds or Sweetwater for new gear instead of this place. read more

The guy at the repair desk was condescending, unhelpful, and downright rude at times. I purchased a beautiful PRS and some elixir strings around the holidays, and noticed the action was way high and even after trying to change it myself, it was still not to my liking. I missed the return policy so I was fine paying for whatever was wrong with it. I drove half an hour to this location to get it checked out, and the guy was super condescending to me the whole time. I'm a young guy, an intermediate player, and I don't know much about the technical side of guitars, but damn, was he really making me feel stupid. Dude was rolling his eyes at me every time I said I didn't know something. I bought a kapo and a guitar strap, and the guy checking me out was on the phone with someone else the whole time. If I'm going to buy a guitar I'd honestly rather drive twice the distance to the Chicago location. The guys over there are dope and ACTUALLY helpful. Anyways, support local businesses. read more

I am not a professional musician and this is really a hobby to play guitar. Walking in would make anyone's jaw drop with the huge selection of guitars. All of the major and perhaps not major brands to support beginner price points to the series musician. Not just guitars as there was a fairly good selection of drum. Every guitar accessory that you can think of they have. You can pick up any guitar and plug it into an amp and strum. I was greeted within minutes of walking in asking how they can help us. I was looking for an amp and he took the time to ask what my needs are, what type of music, etc and then took me over to a few options that may fit my needs and explained pros and cons. He spent a good 15 minutes or more with us to answer any questions. We then looked around and picked up a few guitars to play. Overall, I was impressed by the service, knowledge and inventory of the store. I didn't feel anything was overpriced for a brick and mortar store over online, and the benefit of being able to hear and pick up the instrument outweighs any little savings from online purchase in my opinion. I purchased my daughter a new guitar in October and paid extra for a warranty. The guitar stopped working--it has some electrical glitch. That happened in two weeks after purchase. We drove an hour to bring it in for repair. Guess what? They did NOT honor the warranty and instead, sent a kid home in tears. Screw these clowns. I agree with others. I was very uncomfortable there. Staff is not overly friendly. I was there to spend $4000 on a drum set for our church, and did pick one up, but did not like the way things were handled. I also had traded up to a new synthesizer, and also did not feel welcome there. I have bought several guitars and a couple of amplifiers, and lots of accessories from Musician's Friend, and will continue to do so. Prices are the same, as well as free shipping. I'm a / was a first time customer of The Guitar Center in Brookfield and at first, Tim was great. He answered all of my questions and steered me towards a good set. We agreed that I would return in a day or so to place the required deposit and to order the drum kit that he helped me choose. I called and he informed me that he had even better news for me; the item was found $50 cheaper from a competitor and I was going to receive this additional discount. I was over the moon! He needed to speak with his manager around how to setup my sale as I was asking for a layaway. I was fine until two days later I can't get him on the phone. So, Saturday is here and I decided to visit the store where I run into Tim and he states that the set is not on sale any longer and there's nothing he can do. I don't get argumentative, I just say thank you and leave. I'm happy I learned early on how TGC treats customers. That they won't stand behind a deal. This was luring, shady, unprofessional and just wrong to not own up to your error or stand on your WORD. At the end of the day, that's all any of us has. OUR WORD. So, good news, I immediately drove over to a competitor, found a beautiful set with hardware and placed a down payment on a wonderful set of drums. I took my guitar in and selected strings the salesman indicated were "higher quality". He said it would be $15 additional to restring it for me. I purchased the strings and was going to do it myself. I got too busy, so decided to take the guitar back in ( with original strings on) to be restrung. I indicated the strings to be used were in the front pocket of the case. Instead of using my strings and charging me $15, they charged me $25, and said that they always charge that for restringing. Come to discover, they didn't use the strings I had previously purchased, and no one could tell me what type of strings they used. In addition, I got it home and discovered they had restrung a left handed guitar for a right handed player. No apologies or compensation for my time. I won't be back. read more

Came in on a Wed. morning...first one in the store @ 11:02 AM. I was in the market for a pair of active speakers...I had cash to pay, and frankly am an easy sale if I'm treated well and the salesperson is knowledgeable... There was only 1 person working in that department... He pointed out a pair that he recommended...I put my trust in him, and with a quick demo, I was ready to roll ( as i said, I'm a real easy sale) Well, another customer came in, and then another. I was put on the back burner...after 40 minutes of waiting for a demo, I asked how much longer...he said a few minutes. Waited another 20, and said "F- it" I was done! I personally managed dealerships for decades. My philosophy is that no one should have to wait for someone to take their money...if you're ready, then business should be ready...people can go from a hot prospect to an ice cold "walkout" in a short time... Managers should be aware that money that was almost on the table was walking right outside their door...why even advertise to bring in sales when you can't even take care of ready buyers...went elsewhere, and within 20 minutes had a better deal and on my way home with superior service...it would take alot for me to even think of ever walking into that store again~ read more

This place has high quality Equipment for any level of interest in music whether your beginner or professional this is the place to go for music production. The staff knows what they're talking about and they even have places for you to test the equipment pretty well for as long as you want so you can really feel comfortable with your purchase. The staff is rude. We got yelled at for NOT parking in the fire lane for a pickup order. The staff member had to walk an extra 10 steps to our car for curbside delivery and he was NOT happy. He also told us that next time we want to order, we should wait until we're actually in the right spot to indicate that we're here. We said it's illegal to park in the fire lane. I've purchased a few things used from guitar center since my last review. For all I dislike about their retail stores, they have a very nice return policy on used gear. I've generally had good experiences with them buying used via "mail order" from far away places. I've even used the return policy once, on something that did not match the picture (completely different product). And the return was no hassle other than the drive across town. read more

I travel for business and as a guitar lover and collector I stop in many many guitar shops, including Guitar Centers all over the USA. I've been to them all over Southern California, Seattle, Las Vegas, Portland, Phoenix, SFO, Denver, Bakersfield, Fresno...I can't count how many GCs I have walked into just to walk around, play a few guitars and check our their used inventory. I was just in the Brookfield WI Guitar Center and I have to say that it is the best kept, best presented, cleanest and most impressive Guitar Center, and in fact Guitar Shop, that I have ever been in. The inventory is perfectly kept and perfectly displayed, the organization and ambiance, attitude and feel are absolutely impeccable. I made it a point to say so and was taken to the Manager, Scott, to repeat my heartfelt compliments. Seriously, Brookfield has a real gem there and this shop should be a model for Guitar Center's everywhere. Excellent job folks, you really run one hell of a shop. If you live in the area you have a real gem of a shop there in Brookfield. I highly recommend and endorse this shop. Great place to go for music lessons! We also purchased instruments from here and were very happy with the quality of the instruments.

I literally never go and write reviews about places but this place did it. I went into the store, no one said hi to me, but while white families walked in they got said hi to. I was looking at guitars and an employee gave me a stink face while I smiled at him, then went to the white family next to me and asked if they had any question. I shrugged it off and not let it get to me but then when I went into the studio room messing around with the beats (mind you for the first time ever) the employee behind me said "she must be ghetto." That's when I left. I've never been more disrespected then i was here out of all places. read more

BEWARE! Beware of Guitar Center online web site. It is nothing more than sucker bait. I drove 50 miles (25x2) to the store to be greatly disappointed. The guitar that was online had one picture that was far enough away so you were not be able to get a good close up look at it, a Red Fender Squier Affinity Stratocaster. The condition description of the guitar was "GREAT". It was NOT. The fretboard was dirty and dried out, the frets were corroded, and all the chrome parts were filthy with caked on grime. The body of the guitar and the pickguard were covered with deep scratches, and the body had a 1" chunk broken off the bottom edge that looked like it was patched with nail polish. I complained to the "Guitar Guy" on duty and all he did was shrug his shoulders. Never again. Once burned...... read more

I just wanted to take a moment to sing the praises of the staff at the Guitar Center in Brookfield, WI. I went in a few weeks ago with the goal of purchasing an acoustic guitar so I could start learning how to play. I had absolutely no previous experience with playing the guitar, and only a small amount of past musical experience. The employee (Justin) who worked with me was exceptional. He took the time to test a few guitars to determine which would be best, and did not up-sell me at all, but also expressed that I would likely be happier with a small upgrade from the 'starter kits.' He walked me through picking out picks, strings, cases and DVDs for learning how to play. I actually ended up spending significantly less than I thought I would. I would highly recommend this guitar center for beginning musicians, and was thrilled with my experience. read more

I felt like I got tricked into buying insurance on a tuner a couple years ago. Then last year, I was with my dad buying an amp (it was his Christmas gift to me), and the employee interacted with my dad the entire time until it came to the question for the stupid girl - would you like to buy insurance for this? Here's why you need it - speech. NO nice try. It was so obvious, if my dad is the one buying it, why are you asking me anyway? Also went in here with a guy once who didn't even play guitar. I was literally sitting there playing, and the employee came up and started talking to the guy I was with (who said to him, "I'm not the guitar player, she is") and didn't say a word to me. I come here all the time when I need something for my bass rig, and they always either have what I need in stock or they'll order it for pick-up at a great price. The employees here have helped me redesign my pedalboard and rig without pressuring me to buy anything. They just like what they do and have a passion for music. Guitar center is really only a beginner musicians store. They're selection is generally poor and the layout of the store seems to be changing constantly making it difficult to navigate. I would recommend cream city music, sweetwater, or musicians friend to anyone over guitar center for a number of reasons. The employees are for the most part respectful but I was surprised to realize that the associates are easy to work with but the management is the bad part. Specifically a worker named Josh. I've worked with him a few times and he is very difficult, condescending and stuck on his high horse. His associates are much more caring towards the customer and definitely more concerned about their customers getting the help they need. I knew that guitar center wasn't the greatest store around but it was local and a go to place. After dealing with the Josh's terrible management a few times I was pushed over the edge and will no longer be shopping here because the management is truly atrocious. read more
