Stew beef and potatoes Chicken breast or so my receipt stated, was actually a thigh.

If you like homemade food, fast. This is your place. Working folks favor it over fast food, good choice. Little bit pricey but overall good food. The chicken breast I received must of been the runt of the litter but tasted fine. I may not return but it was worth the chance.

Another unassuming place out off the beaten path. A local brought us here after stopping into the nearby BBQ joint that was also a must-see. Here he swore the pies were the best thing going. I wouldn't have guessed it by the presentation. But that's southern food for you - never judge the book by its cover. Excellent flavor plated on Styrofoam and wrapped in plastic. We got coconut pie and chocolate pie. I'm not into confectioner's coconut so that was a hard pass. The chocolate pie was light and airy along with the fluffy topping. If the coconut pie was anything like it I'm sure it was good stuff. There were at least 5 other flavors of pie to choose from, including pecan, sweet potato and an Oreo/cookies and cream I now regret not trying. The restaurant had regular food but it seemed so much like a cafeteria buffet that I wouldn't have been interested in eating here, even if I hadn't already eaten a bellyful of BBQ down the road. Prices weren't bad, staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean and decorated tastefully. The patronage stared us out-of-towners down hard when we waltzed in with a bee-line to the pie. The "Ashes of Problem Customers" jar beside the nativity was a ballsy move. I like it.

    Large dumplins.

This is a fantastic only in the South mom n pops diner attached to a convenience store. It is country, home style cooking and it is amazing and the place to be in town! Thursdays is my fave day to go, that's "dumplins day". Their dumplins are the best I have ever had next to what my Grandmother use to make. Same with the green beans, I wont eat any but what my grandmother canned and rhese taste just like them, delicious!!! The price of them recently went up but its still a great deal. Friday is hamburger steak day, it is fabulous as well, huge piece of steak. There is a special every week day, M thru F. If you are lucky enough to get there when they still have doughnuts, try one, they are fabulous and only .50 cents each. They are also open for breakfast but I haven't ever gone then so I can't speak on that but your meal will come with a bread choice and I suggest you get a biscuit, its free wirh your meal. I usually buy extra biscuits to take home, worth every penny of the .25 cents each they charge. It can get extremely crowded at peak times and hard to find a parking spot so don't be surprised if you can't find one. Line inside can get really long but it goes super fast, you can be at the end of a line of 20 people and be done in less than 10 minutes. These folks know what they are doing! Their tea is good but I took off one star cause they went from Pepsi products to coke and for me that's one of the worst mistakes a restaurant can make.

At noon on Sunday it was jammed, so I ambled in and sat at the bar with a bunch of strangers. They weren't strangers by the time I left. The ambiance is really, really welcoming. Things I loved about Mother's before I even took a bite: the friendly staff (the bartenders were affable despite the crowds!), the "get breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner anytime" menu, the extensive drinks menu and the flexibility of ordering. Example: the bartender worked with the gentleman to my left to cobble together his à la carte choices into the least expensive meal. So, so accommodating! I had trouble deciding what to order and ended up choosing something the lady to my right had ordered: Melissa's Steak Benny. I'd been craving eggs Benedict and it seemed like a solid choice. At the last moment, I swapped out the hash browns for grits, despite the hash browns looking crispy and delicious, as I'm more a grits girl. Best decision of the day. Best grits I have had in Charlotte. Hands down. Perfectly flavored with without a trace of residue from the butter or cheese it contained. So good I didn't even add my usual hot sauce! (And btw, they have an array of hot sauces available alongside the usual salt and pepper at the table.) As for the dish, I was a little dubious about the drizzle of A1 steak sauce atop the hollandaise, but boy, was I wrong. The smokiness of the steak sauce softened the richness of the hollandaise and was brilliant with the sautéed onions and mushrooms. The flank steak was prepared (close to) medium rare as requested, and I highly recommend not going past medium because flank steak is easy to overcook. (My neighbor's plate was delivered well done and had to be sent back, with lots of apologies from the staff; she said despite the sauce it was far too chewy.) I ended up being able to cut my steak with my fork, always a sign of the good stuff, and the English muffin was toasted enough that it didn't turn to mush at all, not even the last bite. I cleaned my plate. A note about brunch: on the weekends be patient because it's super busy, but if you show up in pajamas before noon, your meal is discounted 20%. Honestly, what more can you ask, getting rewarded by showing up in comfy clothes?!? Mother's immediately became my go-to brunch place; I don't drink much but the Bloody Mary there is calling my name. I can't wait to go back, perhaps for supper.

Their bar seats are actually comfortable, which is rare, and the service there was great. I ordered the garden Benny and my wife had the Cajun Chicken sandwich. All our food was delicious! The hash browns were perfect cooked and flavorful and my wife raved about her chicken. We loved the vibes of this place and have made it our goto brunch spot in the future.

There is plenty of space and tables for dining.I ordered the burger and fries. The burger came with onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and banana peppers with your choice of cheddar or provolone cheese. As you can see, I chose cheddar, and I added bacon. The burger had one small strip of bacon, about two small pieces of banana pepper, and about two small round pickles; it was a bit disappointing because they skimped on those toppings for the size of the burger. Overall, the burger was okay. The fries were like crispy fries. I did like that they were hot. I noticed something was on the plate near the fries, so I didn't eat many after that. I honestly was starving, so I was grateful for the little bit I did eat, but yeah, it was not as pleasing as I would have hoped for in a meal here.

I started with the orzo tomato spinach soup with feta ($3.99). I wasn't sure what to expect as I get a pasta salad done similarly but I can tell you that I was highly impressed with the tomato based broth, the depth of the broth, creamy consistency of the orzo and pieces of fresh spinach. A side of crumbled feta accompanied it to toss in - and it definitely added to the flavors!!! I originally came here for the fried catfish - and it did not disappoint! Two pieces of fish, two sides (collards and broccoli cheese) and hushpuppies was $16.99. I had originally gotten the squash but I'm not a fan of breaded and fried. Ashley was our server and she was amazing -- very attentive, friendly, and gave great recommendations. She really made the experience even better. We started with the pork belly skewers topped with ranch, BBQ, crushed cashews, and pickled red onions -- 10/10. Huge portion and packed with flavor. The balance of sweet, tangy, and crunchy was perfect. The chicken Caesar sandwich was sooo good. It's a massive sandwich with a crispy chicken cutlet topped with Caesar salad, pickled red onions, and chickpeas. Fair warning: it's a little hard to eat because of the size, but completely worth it. The dressing leans more vinegar-forward than creamy, which I personally loved. I'd honestly order it again just as a salad. The truffle parm fries were another 10/10 -- loaded with parmesan and full of flavor. The stout braised beef melt was amazing. Tons of meat and the flavors blended together perfectly. Definitely a standout. The pub chips with added Cajun seasoning were okay -- not bad, just nothing super special compared to everything else. As longtime fans of their previous food truck, we're so impressed with what they've grown into as a restaurant. It's clear they've kept the quality while elevating the whole experience. We'll absolutely be back!

came from Charlotte to try Elk Ave Tavern after seeing a TikTok food review claiming it had one of…read morethe "top five cheesesteaks," so I went in with pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, I left feeling very disappointed. I ordered the cheesesteak, which was the main reason for my visit, and it just didn't live up to the hype. The bread was soggy, the meat was very small diced instead of the ribeye-style cuts you'd expect from a good cheesesteak, and the cheese tasted more like Kraft than anything premium. Overall, it was very bland and lacked the flavor I was hoping for. For $18 and about a 20-minute drive, I honestly expected much more. On the positive side, the Brussels sprouts were amazing -- easily the standout item from my visit. They were flavorful and cooked really well. The fries were fine too, but fries are fries and it's hard to mess those up. The staff were very nice and attentive, and the food came out in about 10-15 minutes, which I appreciated. The restaurant itself is a small, quaint place located in downtown Rock Hill across from the public library. I didn't have trouble parking, but it was around 12:30 on a Wednesday and the lot and nearby street parking were both pretty full, so I could see it being tighter during busier times. I also noticed this location used to be called Sweet Tea back around 2020 when they served chicken and waffles, so it was interesting to see how the space has changed. The menu overall isn't very large, and since I mainly came for the cheesesteak and it didn't meet my expectations, I don't see myself returning. In my personal opinion, Cheat's Cheesesteak Parlor still has the best cheesesteak in Charlotte and the surrounding areas. I really wanted to love this place, but based on this visit, it just didn't deliver for me.
