Great food, easily customizable, quick service. Meat proportions could be slightly more generous…read morebut overall really good.

As a former UC Davis student and current Davis resident, it's crazy to see how far Shaws has come!…read moreI remember when Shaws and star Ginger were the only food trucks on campus and it was such a great meal at a good deal. Now they have their own storefront with a ton more options to customize your meal, and more options and things to order overall. The storefront is not huge, but I don't think it needs to be. It's clean and pretty well organized. The service is also fine. I ordered a combo rice bowl and was glad to be able to add extra toppings like tomatoes in the such. Now, the one thing that they don't do like the old truck used to do is load up with sauce. The old truck used to drown your bowl in sauce whereas now they're a little more conservative, but I imagine you could ask for more if you wanted more. The bowl itself tasted good. It's not going to be the best Halal food that you'll get in Davis or anywhere else in the world, but it tasted nostalgic, and I really enjoyed the whole thing. My husband who is currently on campus more than I am noted that the storefront gives you more food than the food truck at the silo. He also said that the food tasted better here.

My go-to is lamb over rice or chicken over rice. Tbh there isn't a drastic flavor difference but…read morethe textures are noticable. One order goes for $9.50 (after tax), I remember when it used to be $7. The price includes a "free" soft drink or water bottle. I don't think it's worth the price now but Shah's has such a dear spot in my heart. It's my comfort food after a rough midterm or a quick bite when I'm too lazy to cook dinner. This food truck usually never has a long line as its at the back edge of campus. There's an identifical food truck at the Silo which usually always has a wait (10-15 minutes), but once you order, the food comes out almost immediately. They're one of the trucks that open earliest and stay the latest. The rice dish is sooooo filling. I can usually only eat half and save the rest for later. But when I do finish the whole thing, I'm definitely stuffed for another 8 hours. You get tons of rice, a decent portion of meat (depending on who's making it), lettuce and white sauce. And sriracha if you want it spicy. Extra white sauce or Sriracha is an additional $0.75 which is absolutely way too much, in my opinion. The dish is already $9. But I'll definitely be back. It's good, a lot of food and convenient.

The best food truck on UC Davis campus in my opinion. :)…read moreIt's kind of far, near the Mondavi Building, but I promise its worth the walk. It's better than Shah's since the portion size seems bigger and food comes out in less than 1 min, and lines are shorter than Shah's. I usually get the chicken over rice with extra spicy sauce (no extra cost for sauce) :). ($7.25 with a drink) The food always comes out piping hot, with enough sauce~ The lettuce us crunchy with plenty of white sauce on it. I am so stuffed when ever I get this meal! My only criticism is the portion of meat to rice, they tend to give you more rice than meat. The food truck is only open until 2-3 PM, I wish it was open until 6 PM :(. Other than that, the cashier is friendly and food is always fresh~ Will definately stop by again when I feel like walking toward Mondavi.

I kept driving by the gas station this food truck was set up in and decided to finally stop by…read more Chicken pulao: C+ The rice and chicken tasted pretty good but the amount of chicken is so little. It's one drumstick. The side of cucumber and onion were mostly filler so I this plate left more to be desired. Egg shami burger: C- I ordered this because it sounded interesting and was cheap, but the bread was just not enjoyable to me. It was too soft and just tasted like a premade hamburger bun. The egg is okay but doesn't stand out as something that highlights a sandwich/burger. Some contrasting textures would have helped too like a crunchy pickled vegetable. I must say though that the service is super friendly here and they gave samples of one of their spiced drinks.

Drove by Baba's on Anderson while driving the other way and made a mental note to myself to stop by…read moreon the way back. Was definitely glad I did! I got the Samosa Chaat and the Chicken Biryani. Samosa Chaat - really good! Tons of flavor and filling. Great value for 5.99 for two pieces. Spicier then expected! They aren't playing around with the spice level here, you should let them know if you can't handle your spice. Chicken Biryani - overall, pretty solid dish. While the chicken was tender and fall apart, it was a little dry. Not dry enough to make the dish unenjoyable, but definitely a little drier than I expected when comparing to the Samosa Chaat. Service - the two individuals manning the food truck were very nice and explained all the various dishes to me. You also get a little free water with your order. Ambiance - they're located in a gas station parking lot with four or five parking spots nearby adjacent to the tire pressure refilling station. They also have a few tables and chairs set up in the shade behind the food truck if you want to eat there. Conclusion: I will definitely be back to try out some of their other dishes. If you enjoy Pakistani food and can handle your spice, stop by and give them a try.
