Dr. (?) Rudy Kovachevich did a joint replacement on my index finger right hand. It was arthritic and bent inwards at 40 degrees, Had the surgery, heard all the conversation, no sedative given, and afterwards hand was wrapped in a hard splint and bandages. I saw the doctor (?) a week later and was flabbergasted when I saw the result of the surgery, it had accomplished Nothing! My finger was still bent at a 40 degree angle to the right! The doctor (?) had nothing to say about it, other than make excuses about 'we told you about fusion', as if it was my fault. Never again! read more

This is kinda long, so bear w/ me...it's just how I write, lol. I first came to this office in 2022 for elbow and arm pain. Dr. Griggs saw me and expressed minimal empathy for my pain and despite the radiologist saying I had an 80% tear of my common extensor tendon, he said that it probably wasn't accurate bc I had had a previous cortisone injection that was shadowing it and I would have to wait 3 months to repeat an MRI/possible surgery despite my intense pain. He said take Tylenol, basically MnM's for my pain level. Do therapy....uhh ok. This man had the personality and caring attitude of a wet rag. I was bawling. I said I can't possibly wait that long w/o some kind of additional pain relief. Well, he was one of those Dr's who refuses to write a prescription pain reliever and instead puts his hands up and insinuates to suck it up bc his fear of prescribing a med trumps a patient's pain. Now, I understand the addiction epidemic, but many of these dr's are taking it too far at the expense of patients who truly need them. Fast fwd, I see a different Dr at a different practice who states this Dr was full of it and that based on my MRI, my tendon appeared to be completely detached which explains my severe pain. He gave me some low dose Vicodin and got me into surgery in 3 wks and discovered not only my CET was completely detached, but so was my ulnar tendon. They repaired it and now I'm pain free! Fast fwd to 3 weeks ago, my son fractured his finger and urgent care told me to go to the same place. I was hesitant, but I figured it was probably just this Dr. We saw Dr K, he was nice and my son liked him. He was casted and his assistant was pretty kind as well. We had to return a week later bc my son got his cast wet. The girl, can't remember her name was SUPER DUPER sweet and put my son at ease. We return 2 weeks later (my other son came w/ us) for cast removal and the girl who took us back, don't know her name (dark hair w/sides of hair shaved/tats) was beyond rude and made my sons uncomfortable. I tried very hard to make small talk, be kind and nothing. Nothing but snotty remarks. Telling us to keep moving in the room as we were in her way. Ok fine. But she expressed this in a very annoyed tone. Now, both my sons have broken a few bones over the years and every time we've had the big day of removal, we video it and I've NEVER had anyone even remotely have a problem w/ this. She says angrily "I'm SOO happy I can be a part of your family videos". I said, oh I'm sorry is that a problem? She says yes, I prefer to be asked next time. I said I've never had anyone have a problem with this. She repeats the same thing in a snotty tone. We didn't speak after that. I then asked a girl at the desk, discreetly if I could speak to a manager. She knew what happened and proceeded to say loudly, right in front of the girl "I'll get the manager for you. Anyone seen the manager?? The manager's at lunch rn, but I'll have her come see you before you leave". She never shows up even though the girl said she was out of lunch now and would come speak w/ me. I spoke with our Dr about what happened and he basically blew my concerns off said oh, sorry and changed the subject quickly. Ok fine, he was a fine Dr in general. He didn't wanna deal. I called Monday. No return call. I call Thursday. No return call. When the boys and I got home, we looked at the video, and my son never even had her face in view, it was only her hands removing the cast so, she was not in our "family video". Listen, I am SOO not a "Karen"...but I AM a nurse and if you're going to work in the healthcare field, you better have great people skills, empathy, class and kindness and I will not accept this behavior as ok. These qualities are a massive part of our job.This place has some nice people (front desk ladies and Tim in PT are very kind), but I've now had 3 bad experiences and I'm pissed and disappointed. Dr. Heyman is looking to cash in on you and your insurance with zero care for you as a patient. I have been battling their office left and right on a $400+ bill I received after sitting in Dr. Heyman's office for no more than 5 minutes only to be told he has no idea what's going on with my wrist and I should go see another doctor. I cannot stress enough to avoid this office and seek other care elsewhere. Based on other reviews you can see this is common trend in this office. I am writing this review/complaint against Hand Surgery Associates due to the advice and lack of care and compassion my wife received from Dr. Heyman. I would also like to document the poor customer service I received trying to resolve this issue. In regards to my wife's experience with Dr. Heyman, she was very disappointed for the following reasons: 1) The three office visits she had with Dr. Heyman felt rushed and the combined total of the visits lasted no longer than 20 minutes. 2) The Doctor prescribed a generic finger brace that irritated my wife's finger to the point she could no longer wear the brace which prevented and delayed her finger to heal properly. 3) The time between the first visit and second visit was over 4 months. It turns out the type of injury she had needed to be addressed immediately, since time was of the essence. Since the 2nd appointment was scheduled four months later, she did not address her injury in a timely fashion. I guess my question is why did the doctor not schedule the second appointment sooner? 4) The injury she sustained is now permanent. In regards to working with the office staff, this was another extremely frustrating experience. The office member I had the most difficulty working with was Natalie. We talked a couple of times, and she offered a $49.00 discount off the $511.00 my wife spent for the three office visits. I refused that amount, since the discount in my opinion was not worth the type of care my wife received. What made my experience even worse with Natalie was how she completely ignored emails I sent her when I tried to get the exact amount that we paid Dr. Heyman. Previously, she did send me information with all the costs, but it was not broken down in a way that I could understand, so I asked her in simple terms how much we paid. She did not even have the courtesy to respond back and was patronizing to me through our communications. Due to poor care I felt my wife received from Dr. Heyman, I asked for some type of reimbursement for the reasons I listed above. We are by no means trying to take advantage of Dr. Heyman, because he did spend some time with my wife. However, we feel the amount of money spent was not justified and are very unhappy she was not told to come in sooner after her first visit. As I stated before, her injury is now permanent. We even filed a BBB complaint in which Hand Associates did not even have the courtesy to respond. Their rating went down to a B-. The BBB even wrote the following to give me advice on how to handle the Hand Associates, "In the event your complaint remains unaddressed, we suggest you consider writing to the State Attorney General's Office or the Department of Consumer Protection, We also suggest you consider pursuing legal means. " I am considering their recommendations now. Based on the Hand Associates unwillingness to work with us especially after the poor care my wife received, I wanted to share our miserable experience we encountered with Hand Associates and let people know what type of service you could possibly receive when an issue comes up. The true character of a business is revealed when problems arise, and how that business handles difficult situations. I saw Dr Eric Britton on March 22, 2018, for tumors in my hand. I DID NOT LIKE this surgeon. I went to him with a diagnosis already. I had just had a golfball sized tumor removed from my foot 3 months earlier, and the same exact tumor was now in my hand. Same signs and everything. He treated me like I don't know anything AND acted like the Dr. that took out and diagnosed the original foot tumor was wrong and the diagnosis was wrong because it was just too rare. He had lab reports and refused to believe them. Keep in mind he still hadn't looked at me or my hand. He was mad I had seen a surgeon for the tumor instead of a dermatologist. That if I had, like this one on my hand (he FINALLY LOOKED AT IF FOR ONE MOMENT) would go away on its own... this is how it went: Him: "granuloma annulare are not surgically removed and they go away on their own and you see a dermatologist. Are you sure that's what he said you have? Me: yes. It's in the report. Him:Oh... yes. Well.. did you see it had to go to multiple labs to get a diagnosis because it's so rare? Me: yes. Him:hmm Him: I guess we will MRI just Incase and the. I will call you. He ordered the MRI - without contrast- which if he had read the other Dr. noted he would have seen he needed that to see the damn thing correctly. So after that he called me and told me it was in my head. It's now been almost 3 months and I have lost use of my hand and it hurts so badly I cry daily and it's not going away. It's getting bigger. I am seeing a different surgeon Tuesday but it took a while to get on because of this. He also wouldn't listen to my allergies about Twilight anesthesia and blew me off like I didn't know my own body so - that's a glad. He would have killed me anyways. Horrible HORRIBLE doctor. Dr Rovak surgery was stunning. THEN they ignored us. It's 4 weeks later and my mom still has her stitches in. Therapy is under staffed and basically dr Rovak was so busy he just popped in his head said hi and that was the last time we ever saw him. No communication with patient since. They sent home a piece of paper 4 weeks ago and that was it. The infection looks horrid and now the stitches are embedded in her skin. Basically nullifying a good surgery. shame on y'all not caring about the Hippocratic oath of Never if letting a patient suffer. NOW I understand the horrible rating. Sad they dropped the ball! Update: Finally after weeks of warm water and arnica we worked the stitches out at home. Worked off the only sheet of paper given to us for therapy. Have worked with both Dr Clinkscales and Dr Griggs and they have been great. I originally was being treated for trigger fingers and then had a partially torn distal bicep tendon. Griggs fixed that recently and I am in rehab. The only five staff is great, the pA's smart and the surgery center took great care of me. I would recommend them. The docs are nice and talk real talk. I amputated the tip of my right index finger in a restaurants bathroom door in a freak accident one night. After visiting the ER at Swedish Medical Center I was referred to Dr. Rovak at Hand Surgery Associates. They were nothing but amazing and helped me though every step of my 3 surgeries including taking a tissue graph from my palm to replace the missing tissue on my finger. Their in house Therapy department was just as fantastic and gave me the tools to get my finger back in working order. I worked primary with Dave but also had great experiences with Nancy and Tiffany as well. I couldn't have asked for a better experience of such a horrible situation! One of the worst places for patient care I have ever been. The doctor was over 25 minutes late to the appointment. He also left the door completely open during the entire visit. Someone definitely needs to teach him HIPPA compliance. He also told me my finger was going to fall off and my cat was going to eat it. How appalling!!!! This outfit's billing practices suck. Even though your appointments are all at the same office (Swedish), you receive different bills from separate "divisions", none of which is explained ahead of time, and the unanticipated bills are still pouring in 9 months after my last appointment. Calls to the billing people are useless, b/c you are told "we don't know anything, you just have to pay", and they will not answer questions when you try to ask if this is the end of it or if there are more bills coming. "You have to ask those other people, I don't know anything." -- and how am I to ask other "divisions" that I don't know exist whether or not they plan on billing me for anything? Isn't there someone running this outfit who coordinates things between your "divisions"? "No, I don't know anything....." etc etc. Complete waste of time trying to talk to these people. On top of that, they won't accept cash (even for a $2 popsicle stick with a piece of velcro glued to it, which of course they bill for separately). Do they know that the card fee is probably more than $2? And that if they didn't waste money on stupid shit like that, maybe they could afford to hire some competent office workers? read more

Medically good. Business, not so good. My wife went in for a (very) minor surgery, which went well; the Dr. was friendly and kind. The front desk demanded full payment before the procedure, about $1,800. I asked twice if that was the full amount, and the cashier said yes. Despite this, along comes another bill a few weeks later for another $380. There were no complications or unusual circumstances whatsoever. Now, if you enjoy being forced to pay up front, only to get another bill on top, go right ahead. Otherwise, I recommend getting a price guarantee in writing, as their verbal promises are worthless. read more

Doctor K is great, solid communicator, seems capable. But I haven't had a decent encounter with the reception staff in my 3 visits... they seem disorganized (how about a patient sign in sheet like every other office?) but more disconcerting is how Inconvenienced and unhappy they all seem. Advice: You don't have to love what you do (few of us can afford that luxury in real life) but make the most of it unless you are willing take action to do something about it... don't make all of us distraught patients with pain conditions suffer your disgruntledness with you career choice! read more

Due to my northern European / Scottish / German heritage, I am prone to duputryen's contracture in my ring and little fingers. Dr. Britton has treated me three times over the last 8 years, twice with Xiaflex and most recently with contracture release surgery. He and the therapy team (especially Katie) are amazing. I had surgery just four weeks ago, and am already at 90 percent and skin fully healed. HSA treats patients with compassion, care, and a great down-to-earth attitude in building long lasting relationships. I would give a MINUS rating if I could. Think twice before choosing Dr ERIC BRITTON. A few months ago, I saw him to correct two fingers on my right hand that were gnarled and curved to the LEFT, Swollen & painful from arthritis. I cried when the bandages were taken off. To my horror, one of the two fingers is now turned to the RIGHT, the tip and nail actually rolled way to the right side. He offered NO HELP in trying to fix it. He flippantly said "I did all I can do... since you have fake nails ( which I don't ). The next time you put them on turn the nail to the left, and it will appear straight". I couldn't believe a Dr/Surgeon, who you trust to be intelligent, would say such a thing. My fingers are worse than before! read more

I used Dr Eric Britton to surgically remove a ganglion cyst in my wrist of dominant hand. My only option was general anesthesia and I agreed. The cyst apparently ruptured or disappeared prior to the day of surgery. I reported to surgery, explained the cyst was not visible, though he was aware of its location by MRI. He felt that I should continue with surgery and I agreed to prevent more trouble with it coming back down the road. Well, 16 weeks later it was back. He seemed genuinely flabbergasted it was back when I arrived for an appointment to discuss the failure. He failed. I am upset and I have decided to use another surgeon with another group to remove it again. This time under local anesthesia. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS I went there because I had an old thumb injury from skiing that was painful all the time to get some answers. Dr Britton took X Rays and told me the bones of the thumb healed perfectly and there was nothing that can be done. That made me anxious over time to live with this the rest of my life and I had some quick follow up questions for the Dr. I called over and over begging to simply talk to him for 5 minutes for some follow up questions that were really important not only to guide me but to calm my building nerves. They refused. Over and over again they just said to come back in but that there's nothing that can be done or just take Tylenol. After around 8 phone calls over a 2 week span the nurse called me because the doctor refused and told me to voice my concerns to her. I did and she was clearly just trying to get me off the phone ASAP and even said that I'll probably have to live with this pain forever. Not even a suggestion of other types of health professionals to go to or possible soft tissue damage from either the doctor or the nurse. I went to a Pain Management Center the next day and they took a sonogram. They found tendinitis and fibrosis and the doctor said it is treatable with physical therapy and set me up with an MRI and a physical therapist immediately. He even said a cortisone shot will help immediately and with the therapy. It was such a relief after the hopelessness and complete lack of empathy I received from the Hand Surgery Associates staff. There was another doctor I called as well other than the pain management center that took such good care of me and he called back personally and left me a voicemail that he wants to talk in detail with me about the issues. This is a doctor I've never even been to and he calls me personally to have a lengthy conversation. Hand Surgery Associates are not empathetic they do not care about their patients well being. I have been seeing Dr Clinkscales for two trigger fingers. At this point I've had shots, hoping to avoid surgery. Regardless, of what the solution will be, Dr. Clinkscales and his staff are awesome! They are kind, caring and professional! Dr Clinkscales also has a great sense of humor which I appreciate. I saw Dr. Sachar 4 years ago regarding my Carpal Tunnel. I finally got around to getting the surgery last week. Dr. Sachar has wonderful bedside manner, he never rushed me through any of my visits and is very caring. I had my surgery done at their surgery center which is located on the same floor as there office. The nurses that took care of me were very caring, patient and knowledgeable. I selected this practice because of referrals from four different folks who have had multiple procedures done with this practice and have been more than happy with the care they have all received. I highly recommend Dr. Sachar and will be referring him to friends and family. read more

The facility was clean and organized as I would expect from a Dr.'s office. I was seen by Dr. Sachar and he was very thorough in his examination and did a great job of explaining the various treatment options. He was very professional and attentive and did not seem rushed to see his next patient. I was able to get in immediately to get a cast applied in their "therapy" room and was able to schedule subsequent followup visits on the spot. I feel like I have a clear path to recovery and would recommend Dr. Sachar to anyone needing a hand specialist. read more

I have been to the office 3 times since Wednesday to get a cast put on my right hand after surgery. The first cast that was put on was way too loose. I could almost pull my hand out of it. The second cast was so tight that my middle finger and ring finger were tingling. The third cast (that was put on today) is just as loose as the first one. Update: After speaking with my insurance and several friends who work for major insurance carriers, it looks like HSA bills at the very top end of what can be charged for a specific insurance code. In addition, the code they charged was for a 40+ minute consult level 3, which is ridiculous considering I spent all of 10 minutes describing my history and issue to the doctor and received no information other than "you should get an MRI". For a 15 minute conversation the bill was $450, which is grossly above the standard for a hand specialist according to my insurance references. Combined with the lack of follow up from the HSA office after my MRI, this is unacceptable. I can now wholeheartedly recommend staying away from HSA if you have any concern about costs or quality of care, as they have proven to me that they care more about money and overcharging clients than being a healthcare provider. ---------------- Original Review ---------------- Staff is nice enough, but unfortunately (I suppose like most other doctors or specialists nowadays) they require payment up front and you will end up waiting to see someone despite showing up early or on-time for an appointment. I don't think I have overly high expectations, but in my opinion the examination seemed to be very brief followed by an unsure diagnosis and scheduling an MRI. And as someone else mentioned, they are completely unwilling to have even a simple followup discussion over the phone. They insist on scheduling an office appointment so that an office visit fee can be charged. Sorry, but taking time off of work and traveling out of the way to the office (again) just to hear everything came back normal doesn't appeal to me. Let me know if the results show something, then let me schedule an appointment to discuss my options. These behaviors to me indicate they are more concerned with $ than fixing the problem, but it could have just been a bad experience on my part. I was skeptical when i read the reviews the night before my appointment, but i had tendon damage in my thumb and needed to get into surgery. Dr. Griggs was great (a little dry, but I wasn't there for the conversation). Once in surgery, he was very thorough and explained every step and discovery along the way. He had me out of there very quickly and feeling much better about my thumb. The rehab I did with Bobbie was awesome. She knows her stuff, and put me on a great plan. She kept me honest the whole time, and helped me regain full use of my thumb. I would go back for sure (though hopefully I won't have to). read more

My husband was referred here after visiting an urgent care clinic on new years day, when we woke up with a swollen elbow that he couldn't move. The urgent care clinic x-rayed my husband's elbow, and put him in a splint telling him he had severe damage in his elbow from past injuries in addition to what looked like a hairline fracture that would need casting or surgery. When we first arrived, I had an average impression. The front desk associates were nice enough, helpful in getting the paperwork together and the wait was not extensive. Once we were called in, the first nurse was nice and helpful, then who I'm assuming is one of the doctors came in. He seemed friendly, he had new images taken because those that we brought from the clinic were kind of blurry, but it was extremely fast and he returned immediately which I thought was awesome. Once he began analyzing the images, he asked about the old damage. My husband told him the story of how he believed he injured his elbow as a child, how it was damaged again in HS but never was fixed because he was a teenager in football and wanted to stay on the team. Since high school (30+ years ago) he hasn't had any significant pain or issues with the elbow, except for not fully being able to extend it fully. He said he didn't see any breakage or fractures that looked recent. The doc's medical terminology for my husband's condition was that the elbow was "Jack'd" and there was nothing to do. No concern as to why it was swollen all of a sudden after all these years, what remedies can be used to reduce the swelling or any recomendations for pain relief.All of a sudden, in what seemed to be mid-conversation, the doctor walked out and left with no closing results, no solution and not even a good bye. Extremely rude, weird ending to a doctors visit. $100s at urgent care clinics and surgery centers for nothing so far. If they thought he just wanted pills, we can get those anywhere. A medical opinion, concluding advice and recommendation for treatment, however you can't buy on the street. read more

I'm going to have to agree with Lisa M on this one. The doctor I saw spent about three minutes with me before informing me that nothing could be done to help. More of his questions revolved around my laptop than my hand, and his answers to my questions were short, shallow, and unsatisfying. For a firm with such a specific focus, I was shocked at how informal and unprofessional my visit felt. I'll be looking elsewhere for another doctor willing to spend the time to help. read more

Based on all the other reviews I am really glad in what happened with the terrible manners I received when I tried to schedule an appointment. I was rudely hung up on by Victoria. She did it on purpose and could not have been more rude. I am seeking treatment elsewhere as I will never give this place a dime. Terrible, terrible, terrible. read more
