Very oily, dripping, since my dumplings were straight out the fryer, not sure how others got them, but my order for sure skipped the blotting, a major step for fried food. Also got the scallion pancake with beef, will never order again as the thing was cold, no flavor--at least serve it with some kind of sauce. Don't think I'll be coming back. read more

The broth was a little salty, the noodles were a little chewier than I am used to. The duck was pretty disappointing - I got two neck pieces and a butt piece. The other pieces were basically bones and duck skin. Sadness. On the bright side, the bok choy was cooked nicely and still firm. I finished the meal and was full, but I left all the duck pieces. I love this place. Its my go to spot when I'm too lazy to cook. I usually order delivery but have dined in several times. In the past, I've gotten their house special combo, spicy chicken over rice, the steamed dumplings, scallion pancake with beef, the egg drop w/tomato soup, and the steamed veggies. I would say you can do without the scallion pancake because they only put like two thin slices of beef inside. However, the other items I listed is a must try. Everything always tastes great and I've only had one small issue with an order when I dined in (which I think the cashier just heard me wrong) and they fixed it right away! Keep that in mind. I ordered the House Special Soup, and my boyfriend the roast duck. The House Special is massive, basically served in a salad bowl. It comes with tripe, beef, pork and an egg, lots of bok choy and their famous noodles. Noodles are very well done. You can watch the guy pull and pull and pull the dough into cool noodles. Springy, not soggy, since they are fresh. Add some of the chili sauces into your soup to give it a little kick. Not too much, though. The oils will dissipate in the hot water and it might make it too spicy to eat. Everything is reasonably priced. This is a hole in the wall noodle shop that does not disappoint. It looks more like a typical Chinese take out spot. Their sliced beef is really good. I usually order it with either noodle soup or stirred fried noodle. You get more noodles when its stirred fried but it is also almost a dollar more. Definitely worth it. The stir fry noodle can be a bit greasy though, probably ask them to cook it with less oil if it is possible the next time I go. Their pancake with the beef is also a must have. My entire family LOVES their steamed pork dumplings because unlike other Asian restaurants, they use lean pork and their dumplings are decently sized. An observation on pickup orders: This restaurant is probably the only one I've seen have an insulator by their counter. Bags of food that are ready for pickup are placed in their to retain their heat until you arrive. How considerate! Most restaurants just leave your prepared bag on a counter. Danger! This place delivers to me... gonna get MSG headache+dumpling belly.. All the delicate steamed pork and chive dumplings and savory roast duck hand pulled noodle soup I can order. Delivered promptly and without too much banter or back and forth. The scallion pancake is also a savory appetizer that comes rolled up and cut into pieces rather than the usual sliced up pancake. I have also ordered 'spicy bok choy' and received pickled, lightly spicy napa cabbage, which, to be clear, is a different vegetable. But it was refreshing, though not as flavorful as I'd hoped. Those are the most popular items, but I've enjoyed the pork buns which come as a miniature pack of six, and for some reason the rice cakes with seafood tasted very comforting. The seaweed egg drop soup also has a homestyle taste, but the texture is odd. And I wasn't impressed with the beef tendon soup (gelatinous beef parts noodle soup) so roast duck it will be. The cons are that I usually get a mild to annoying headache and major thirst after I eat the takeout because they either heap on salt or saturate the food with MSG. But hey, MSG is my favorite flavor. Also, when you order hand pulled noodle soup for takeout, they give you the noodles uncooked and separate from the soup.
