Placed an order for pickup at this location and upon arrival, I discovered the location was closed despite their posted hours disclosing they are open. The business hours both online and in person showed they were open, so it was very disheartening to show up only to realize no one was there... I came here on a weekday night at 10pm. I was honestly surprised to see they were still open because Yelp and their store signs say they close at 10pm but they were still open but a little bit after, maybe closer to 1030pm or 11pm I'd say. Immediately walking in, it was STUFFY. It had a smell of rotten milk or just something spoiled. Extremely muggy feeling inside. It was cooler outside for sure. It was off-putting but I stuck it out and still decided to order some ice cream. The size of the place is mini so def an order to get to go and walk to the esplanade! The lady working definitely gave me plenty of samples to try from. I got 2 scoops. 1 scoop of a caramel something flavor and a scoop of their moose tracks. The serving size was good, average. The ice cream itself was creamy, sweet and fills that sweet treat craving. Personally, I would've like to order something else, but the samples buttered me up on getting these sweeter flavors. One thing to note is that they did not have signs or ask about allergens prior to offering samples. I ended up trying a sample that had peanuts and I completely forgot about my friend having a peanut allergy and I let them sample it as well. Thankfully, nothing happened. They were accomodating and offered us a free water bottle and waffle cone to get the peanut taste out their mouth. There's ample parking in the parking lot, it's part of a mini plaza. It's right down the street from Redondo Beach which is nice! Customer service was great! I thought the lady and man working were friendly and inviting. We were walking in Redondo Beach and my wife wanted some ice cream. She looked online, saw this place and thought we'd take a look. We got there and the first thing we asked was if they have non-dairy, and they did have one non dairy, which I tried and was very good, so I got a single cup with fudge and caramel and it was very, very good. My wife tasted a couple of flavors and she got a "double" with a couple flavors and really enjoyed hers. When ordering we got into a conversation with Christina, who is the brand new owner of the place. She's a very nice lady, shared a lot about herself and why she bought the place only a couple of months ago and said she works 7 days a week until 6pm and then she has a couple of others who work nights. Her son Robert was also there, who is also a very nice young man. They have all sorts of ice cream and in the rear of the store have a area where they sell cakes. We go down to Redondo Beach a couple times a month and plan on stopping by for more ice cream, and Christina said she'll be getting more non-dairy ice cream, which is really nice. read more

The other night we decided to check out Hand and Spoon which is under new management. I asked for a quarter scoop of vanilla on a sugar cone for mom and let them know to charge me for a full scoop. I am a palled at the behavior of the owner/manager. I take my autistic son there about every month or so as a part of his outing while the housekeepers clean his bedroom. We hadn't been in months, and had a BOGO coupon we had had a while, but it didn't have an expiration date. After some other errands, we stopped, my son is 26 and too low functioning to take into the store, so he waits for me. He clearly understands we are getting ice cream. I walked into the store and only see a young man behind the counter. I show him my coupon, and he has to ask this woman, who is behind the closed door at the back, and she's on the phone, and says "we don't accept coupons anymore", and before I could say "Ok", she adds, "that was a promotion from like eight months ago". I knew it wasn't that old but really didn't come for myself anyways. I glanced up at the menu, and see a single scoop is six dollars, also thinking to myself, "this is why I only come here for Ryan". I scan ice cream creams, order chocolate chip in a cup, and ask if I can have a cone on top ( easier for me and Ryan). He serves me the tiniest scoop and rings me up and it's seven dollars. I why it was seven dollars, and he said "the is a dollar". I simply replied "I wish I had known that before, and is that really all I get for six dollars?" It's then that " "interjected, just as I was snapping a and said "I'm going to post this". This is where it went sideways with her. She was so upset over it, she took back my ice cream, and I said "I paid for that". She put it back down, got further upset, and requested the refund me and took it back again. That's when my eyes and I said "that is for my autistic son outside in my truck!" She essentially threw it back at me and told me to never come back, and she was refusing to ever serve me again. I laughed at that point and said, "don't worry, I won't and I'm hoping others won't be now too". I did leave letting her know. I have been going to that ice cream location since the a little girl, and it was sad. She probably wasn't going to make it. I have a soft spot for small business and perhaps she's feeling financially stressed so as I'm feeding my son another woman leaves with a double that each single was twice the size of mine. so many ways she could've handled the situation. She even offered me a discount after refusing to accept my coupon, but then I never received any discount except charged a dollar for the cone. This place caught me by surprise. The shop itself is very unassuming and reminiscent of those down-to-earth ice cream places from my childhood. A colorful sorbet caught my attention called Sour Splash which I sampled. I thought was good but wasn't a flavor I was craving at the time. I asked to sample the dairy-free chocolate and the gal told me that they were out of it. There was also a dairy-free vanilla in the case but the gal let me know they also had a dairy-free soy-based Churro flavor that was brand new. It wasn't even in the display case. She pulled the tub out from a storage spot and gave me a sample. I was sold! It had a delicious cinnamon flavor and pieces of cinnamon-flavored cookie dough. Although I had eaten a big meal prior to visiting (and wasn't feeling in the mood for anything else), I still went ahead and gave H&S a go. I ordered the Lavender-honey ice cream, which was a beautiful blend of fragrant lavender (honey flavor was very subtle) and creamy. I had my ice cream while sitting on one of the two hand-shaped chairs inside, enjoying the flavor while being gently-cradled by the buttocks. XD Although I only tried one flavor, I'm keen on trying the dozens of others (and ideally when I'm not so stuffed with food). H&S can give Handel's a run for its money! read more

While they have some fun waffle cones and toppings, the ice cream flavors are relatively traditional - rocky road, sherbert, vanilla, etc. However, I like that there's a window for customization with the cones and the toppings! Craving ice cream late. I was thrilled to see that this ice cream parlor closed at 10 pm on a Sunday. Many flavors to select from. I had to get at least 2 scoops. The lavender and honey was really good. I was very impressed. I think it was a good time to go near closing as there was no one there and you can chose what flavors you want with no rush. First off, I was unaware that they had special winter hours where they close at 9. Thinking that they closed at 10, we arrived at 8:45pm so I'm glad they were able to accommodate us. Here's a secret about a majority of ice cream places: it costs extremely less to purchase the buckets of ice cream than buying scoops of ice cream. Unfortunately, they didn't have any flavors in their bucket section that I wanted to buy. There's a lot of flavors but I guess because we arrived near closing time, 20% of them weren't even available. I tried out a mini banana split which allowed for two scoops of ice cream. I added a cookie monster and honey & lavender flavor to the split. By the time I got home, the ice cream was somewhat melting and blending together. In any case, it was overall pretty good. The rest of my friends got normal scoops. Our total bill for 4 people ended up being $21.96. And finally, they also sell cakes here if that is your fancy. read more

It was hot a few weeks ago and I was craving some ice cream. Wanted to find a place nearby and ended up finding Hand & Spoon and it had pretty good reviews. Bonus: they have a parking lot in the Riviera so you don't need to pay for parking! We were taste testing a bunch of flavors and when we finally decided, we told the woman our order of two small cups and whatever flavors we chose ($4.50 a cup, I think). She asked if we'd like today's special instead - it's a kid's size with 2 scoops for $2.50 that's basically the same size as a small. Ummmm, heck yes! 2 for Tues? Awesome!! I honestly don't remember what I got and the ice cream was not necessarily out of this world, but the price seriously can't be beat - so many ice cream places are over $5 now for a basic scoop or two of ice cream. A tub of Ralph's is like $3. I greatly appreciated this discount and the fact the woman there told us about it and didn't keep it a secret. Definitely a spot to seek out on a Tuesday! Stopped by hand & spoon last night and was so impressed by the variety of flavors! We truly couldn't decide, so thank goodness we were encouraged to sample as much as we wanted. Ended up with a brownie batter and coffee cookie split scoop. It was absolutely delicious and just the right size. The new owner has a great story and is so welcoming. I definitely recommend chatting with her if there's not a long wait behind you. My one suggestion for improvement is to get better spoons, as the ones currently being used are a bit flimsy and bulky. We really enjoy the ice cream here. It's a cute little shop with fun chairs for kids to sit in, and also stools where you can sit look out the window.
