After a decade since my last review, Kansha Creamery is still one of my favorite ice cream shops in Southern California. Here are few key points: * Each year, the shop closes for the entire month of January for its annual winter break and the shop also occasionally closes on random dates, so check their Instagram page to make sure the shop is open on the day of your visit. * No samples! * $0.75 of every ice cream sold is donated to Community Loving (mutual aid organization that serves unhoused & low-income families & youth in the South Bay with the essential resources they need & deserve). * Each year, Kansha Creamery hosts a kids' flavor contest and turns those flavors into reality & ultimately features on Kansha's menu. * Their ice cream is made with Straus Family Creamery products. * Their pints are made without the use of gums or preservatives which causes them to freeze harder than store-bought ice cream, so place those pints in the fridge for 10-30 minutes before indulging. * Some flavors like black sesame are seasonal, but popular flavors like Mr. Universal and Matcha (both excellent) are available year-round. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I'm so glad that I did! There was a line out of the door when we came, but it does move by quick. I got the pistachio ice cream with mochi balls and red beans, which were not too sweet at all. The pistachio ice cream was really fresh and natural. It's not like the artificial pistachio flavor and it had whole pistachios in there for crunch. Loved it. read more

I really had high hopes for this place. Heard great things about it from family. Read that they have Asian inspired ice cream flavors and toppings. Saw a line out the door when I recently visited the establishment. I really thought this was going to be an easy five star review. The folks who work here were incredibly efficient and didn't provide samples (this is actually a good thing since it holds up the line). The line moved faster than a checkout register at Trader Joe's. But then I tasted their Matcha Parfait (which in concept should have tasted amazing) and my heart sank. There wasn't anything particularly great about it except the vanilla ice cream at the very bottom of the cup. The matcha ice cream, mochi balls, and red bean topping were okay. The corn flakes added a distinctive crunch and different texture to the parfait, but I could have done without them. The wife had the Hokey Pokey which is supposed to be honeycomb and toffee flavored. She tossed it after taking a few bites noting that it tasted neither like honeycomb or toffee. Tasted like coffee to her, which she dislikes. This is a very popular shop so maybe it's just a matter of personal preference. For me, it just didn't hit the spot. read more

I noticed Kansha hours were a bit more expansive than years prior and a perfect time to visit. I loved the matcha parfait from Yamari located not too far away that uses a soft serve version, so I wanted to compare. This is a Japanese version of halo halo but without the intent of mixing all the ingredients. I enjoyed this tasty dessert that had good contrasting textures. Great mix of flavors but do prefer to a more intense matcha flavor with the ice cream. Matcha flavor was a bit mild. The matcha jelly was a bit bland and could also use a slight sweetness. Haven't been to Kansha Creamery in years! I love their ice cream! Even all of their ice cream flavors are homemade. My friends and I ordered their Oatmeal Cookies Caramel Ice cream, A01 Matcha Icecream with red bean and Mochi, and Peppermint Cookie Dough We all really liked the Ice cream. The peppermint cookie dough had so many pieces of cookie dough and Oatmeal cookies Caramel had so many pieces of oatmeal cookies. They even homemade the Oatmeal Cookies I would highly recommend it. It tastes like a milk and cookies ice cream. I haven't had the chance to try the A10 Matcha Ice cream but I really want to try that one next I heard that one is good! UPDATE 4/17: Came again!! Wanted to shout out the gentleman working in the snazzy bow tie and glasses. He was so kind and polite to every single customer, including us ice cream 10/10 as always UPDATE: we came back tonight right before they closed - hubby has been talking about coming back EVERY SINGLE DAY since we last came (no exaggeration) I got the matcha parfait again and hubby got the honey toffee and cookies and cream. 10/10!!! The owner (woman) is very warm and friendly. We were the last customers to leave. I wanted to tell her but I felt bad since we came right before closing -- but Please don't everrrr take the matcha parfait off the menu!!! I don't know what I would do without it Hubby and I have passed this place so many times over the years on the way to Tokyo Central. Finally tried it today and it didn't disappoint. Line was to the door when we came in, good sign! But the lady working (possibly owner?) was quick! Only waited a few minutes. Also noted that many customers that came in were regulars from the dialogue between the owner and them. I was torn between the matcha parfait and the regular scoops. I ended up settling for the matcha parfait for $12 after much deliberation. And my husband got two scoops for $7 - malted cookies and cream and Mr. Universal caramel & oatmeal cookies. The matcha parfait was PERFECT! Vanilla at the bottom, two mochis, matcha jelly, cornflakes, matcha ice cream, red bean, and whipped cream. I was never a huge fan of red bean but decided to leave it so I can try as is. I'm so happy I did because it was delicious. Mochi was nice and soft but firm. Matcha jelly was smooth. Cornflakes added a great crunch. The vanilla ice cream paired well with the matcha ice cream as well. A lot of matcha ice creams taste too strong but this one was perfect. Would definitely get again!! 10/10! The malted cookies and cream was the BEST cookies and cream ice cream I've ever had. And I'm not exaggerating. You can taste the quality!! 10/10! As an avid ice cream eater, I have had Kansha Creamery on my list for a while. It's always been difficult for me to find the time to try it (since I don't live particularly close to Torrance), but I was finally in the area when it was open, so I had to stop in. The store itself is pretty small, but it's cute and has ample space for enjoying your ice cream. I had the Hoke Pokey, and it was delicious. The toffee was layered in very nicely with the milk ice cream, providing a nice crunch and texture in each spoonful! My wife got the Matcha and malted cookies and cream. The combination worked beautifully, as the matcha had the strong earthiness you expect, which balanced nicely with the sweetness of the cookies and cream. I didn't realize they had so many different rotating flavors, and I'm quite sad I don't live closer to try out all the variety. Would highly recommend Kansha for anybody who loves ice cream! Not all ice cream is made equal. There are superior ice cream places in LA and then there are subpar ones. This is a superior one. I'd rank it up there with kinrose creamery or Sorry Not Sorry. It wasn't perfect; my mango oolong scoop had a few ice chunks in it; but it is forgiven for the superior creaminess, taste, not too sweetness, and flavor profile capture of each scoop we tried. Black metal, mango oolong, and malted cookies and cream - out of the ones we tried these flavors were peak. Also, getting a red bean and mochi topping to go with any flavor is always peak. Parking is easy most of the time, and the interior has just enough seating for an ice cream store. Service is also 10/10 - the lady was sweet and so efficient. I have never seen a single woman run shop before and the way she handled a constant flow of customers all by herself was very impressive. And she did while beaming. Good for her. Kansha has been one of the places I've been wanting to check out for a while. The shop was a lot smaller than I thought but I did like the ambiance and the staff. They have limited asian inspired flavors, and from what I hear, they rotate out the flavors. I got the matcha, malted cookies & cream and the honeycomb toffee. Will definitely be back to try their other flavors! Love the small business vibe of the owners that want to support local farmers and charities! For $7 + tip for two scoops of mediocre freezer burnt ice cream, I would rather get sweets from elsewhere. The store was moderately busy during my visit on a Saturday late afternoon. I couldn't find parking because the entire shopping center was bustling. I was surprised because it was too late for lunch but too early for dinner type of hours. That their ice cream is such high quality is beyond reproach. Their flavors, while somewhat limited are their own and not to be compared to any others. They are distinctly Kansha. There is nothing ordinary here. The owners are serious about producing everything that they sell as much as they are about the way they treat their customers with dignity and respect. Their shop is clean and inviting. A place for people to meet and enjoy sharing time together while enjoying the most wonderful ice cream. But Kansha (which means "thankful" in Japanese) is so much more. They donate a portion of their proceeds to charity and are supporters of their community. Wow this place was packed when I came. It made me uncomfortable that there were a ton of flavors that I didn't know the flavors to. For instance, they had a flavor called Mr. Universal but there was no description and no samples were allowed. So I just guessed and asked for that because my friend said I would like it. Some other options were black sesame, chestnut sundae, matcha sundae, etc. Apparently Mr. Universal has a mix of oatmeal cookies and another sweet item. I kind of stumbled upon it because I was looking for something sweet to bring a gathering later on in the day (but ended up getting a treat for myself here instead haha) So glad I found it. The service is really friendly and they specialize in seasonal flavors. There's not a lot of selection which is a great thing. To me it just means that the flavors that they do have are really good and you can get creative with the combinations. I got two scoops because that's the only way you could mix the flavors. And ended up doing the Matcha and strawberry combo. Their ice cream is so good and creamy. Lots of flavor as well. A really big fan of this place. I finally gave this place a chance after ignoring it every time I visit the plaza. Wow, I'm impressed! They actually do ice cream pretty well here. The prices and portions are reasonable, and the vibes are pretty great. It has plenty of seating and has that sort of cafe vibe. A single scoop of ice cream starts at $4, and you can add toppings for an additional price. The ice cream has the perfect amount of sweetness and flavor. It's not overly sweet like the average ice cream store in LA. I didn't get to ask questions about the product (whether everything's made in-house and daily, but I assume it is).
