Stepped in after randomly walking by one Sunday afternoon for a pick me up. Wait was very quick. We ordered a honeydew bubble tea, an almond bubble tea, and the classic bahn mi. The bahn mi was so surprisingly full of flavor and ingredients--all fresh. Baguette was perfectly toasted and crunchy on the outside, there was plenty of meats in the sub. Bubble tea was aromatic and not too sweet. They seem to cook their tapioca in a sweetened sugar to allow for the bubbles to taste yummy too. I can't wait to go back to try their pho!! read more

This review is for takeout. My husband and I order delivery from Hanco's quite often. It's always solid - piping hot and rich broth, generous amount of meat and noodles. Their grilled pork bahnmi is also great. I do wish the bread was a bit more airy/crispy sometimes though. Overall I recommend this place if you're craving pho around the area! read more

I'm writing this on behalf of my husband's order. We were picking up a cake from across the street and my husband said he would run in to get a drink...at 2:45pm on a Saturday...I thought something happened to him because he didn't return for almost 15 minutes...I thought he had decided to order food or something, but no...he came back with a bubble tea. Overall very good banh mi sandwiches, and great vegetarian options. Really, really delicious bread. Our sandwiches (the vegetarian chicken and vegetarian pork) could have used more cilantro. Also, they asked spice level, and we requested medium for the veggie pork and "very hot" for the veggie chicken. The latter was slightly hotter (maybe a few more jalapeno slices and a little more spicy mayo), but I was hoping for more heat. The vegetarian "pork" itself was really good and well flavored. Let everyone else write about the classic banh mi or the grilled pork or the chicken--allow me to rhapsodize about the tofu sandwich. I was feeling veg one day and decided to grab lunch from here. This is clearly a spot that gets a fair amount of business. They had a few people waiting outside and delivery people zipping in and out. Already, that said something (I made a mental note to order ahead next time). I waited between 5-10 minutes for my order. Service was very efficient considering how many people they had to serve. When they called my order, I could feel the warmth of the sandwich inside the paper bag as I cradled it like a baby back home. Oh my goodness, it was so good. For the uninitiated, you may be taken aback by a foul odor, but that's just the fermented radishes. Forget how it smells--it tastes phenomenal. Banh mi looks simple, but it's really easy to screw up. Hanco's does it beautifully. The baguette is perfectly toasty and sturdy enough on the outside to hold all the goodness inside. The pickled veggies, jalapeno, cilantro were just the right ratio to "meat" and the tofu was very well marinated and tasty! Probably spoiled with the banh mi in 8th ave area, but their banh mi is only 5 dollars and with a whole lot of flavor as well. The classic at Hanco's has ground pork and is $8, which is not commonly found in other "#1's" in other banh mis. Although the grounded pork was flavorful and juicy, I would still prefer the typical ingredients you would find in the shops around 8th ave. That includes cucumber, more pate and meat, and a less messy filling. Haven't tried the pho here, but this area overall has pricier foods. The thai iced tea was pretty authentic imo! read more

These sandwiches set the benchmark for Bahn Mi. We walked over on this rainy night and the spicy tofu sandwich is unbelievable. It always seems busy. Tonight a lot people were having the noodle soup. Hanco's is one of the few places that has gotten me through the worst of the pandemic. I've always enjoyed going here for a quick pho fix. The beef pho gets the job done. But even more so once places were shutting down left and right, I was so glad when Hanco's opened up again for take out/delivery! The food comes well-packaged, separating noodles, broth, veggies, and meat, so that you can put it together and have your pho as hot and fresh as possible without dining in the restaurant. I have the chain location on Montague street 4 stars, but I had to give this location 3 stars because I found a piece of hair in my summer roll. Not on top of it... but inside after I took a bite. Wasn't too happy about that. Other than that I do really enjoy the banh no sandwiches. Similar to the location on Montague, I like that they actually use big juicy pieces of pork in the pork sandwiches. I've had banh mi sandwiches from other places that use dry ground up hard pieces of pork in the sandwiches which is not for me. Get a stamp card. If you buy 9 sandwich/pho you get one free. This is the best tasting banh mi I've had so far in NYC. The ground pork was so savory and juicy and wonderful...it more than makes up for the two flaws that I can see. Flaw #1: It's $5.50. That's just more than banh mi should cost (see Saigon Sandwich in SF). I've come to expect this sort of thing in Manhattan, but we're in Brooklyn. (It should be noted that Manhattan spots Baoguette and Nicky's both come in at $5, and those are on the high end.) Also, bottles of water at Hanco's are $1.25 and I think that's crap. Flaw #2: The distribution of the banh mi ingredients is off, and could easily be improved. (If you do not want to hear about how, please skip the nonsense below, and move along to The Conclusion.) For the purposes of this discussion, imagine that Hanco's puts their delicious, toasty baguette in a V shape. All the porky goodness is stuffed into the bottom of the V, and the pickled daikon, carrot and cilantro was laid on top. The problem here is that this is not a hot dog. It's just too big; you can't take a bite of the sandwich vertically, which might allow you to get a little bit of each ingredient in every bite. In order to eat this sandwich without getting it all over your face and/or lap, you need to come at it from the side (once again, assuming we are using the V model). Unfortunately, this leaves you either biting the top of the V and getting a mouthful of pickled vegetables and cilantro, or the bottom of the V and getting a mouthful of porky goodness. Both of these are unsatisfactory, as you want to be getting both in every bite. Please excuse the rudimentary nature of the drawing below, but the ideal distribution would look something like this: ________Bread _________ Daikon/Carrots/Cilantro Porky Goodness ________Bread _________ As you can clearly see, this distribution would ensure that the eater would get both the pickled vegetables and the porky goodness in each bite. And although it would not be very difficult to build the sandwich this way, opening it up and re-distributing the ingredients after you've purchased it can get messy. The Conclusion. I'd still stop and get a sandwich at Hanco's anytime, because any place with only two flaws is pretty damn good. I don't even want to think about how many flaws I have. Thank god no one reviews me. I bet I'd average a "Meh, I've experienced better." I just checked with my girlfriend, she's nodding. Ah, crap. Now I'm thinking about all my flaws. read more

Pho has become my comfort food (and also hangover cure, though there haven't been many of those during this whole time of self-isolation) and Hanco's is a my go-to spot. The broth is so so so good, and they put a hefty amount of noodles, bean sprouts, onion, etc. Tip: I always ask for extra hoisin and spicy sauce. Service is super quick and they're great for takeout right now. They have the restaurant set up so only one person can enter at a time to grab pick up, and people wait outside if their food isn't ready. Plus, hand sanny at the door. read more

When you have a craving for bubble tea and banh mi, go to Hanco's. That's really all I have to say. All the ingredients that go into that sandwich are fresh. The bread has just the right amount of crunch, where it's not too dry nor stale. The pickled carrots and daikon have just the right amount of vinegary sweetness and don't overpower the rest of the sandwich. It's the perfect balance of everything you'd want out of a banh mi. And definitely don't underestimate their bubble tea. It's definitely some of the best I've had from a restaurant. Stumbled upon here with a few of my girls because we were getting brunch somewhere else but the wait was really long. We were starving and really wanted bubble tea after passing by Hanco's on the way to our brunch spot. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this place - I don't know many good places that serve both bubble tea and Vietnamese food together and can do it right. I decided to get the large Taro bubble tea. When it came out, I thought it was going to be much bigger because it usually is at other places. But I enjoyed it very much and the tapioca balls were good. My girls and I tried the Banh Mi sandwich and to my surprise, it was delicious. It was different from the Classic Banh Mi I'm used to (there's the addition of ground pork, instead of all sliced meat). The sandwich is very short in length but don't that that fool you because the sandwich is wider than usual. I would say the only downside to this place is that the prices are a bit higher than other spots that I go to. Overall, I was a fan of Hanco's. The ambiance is chill and our food came out at a reasonable amount of time. If I'm in the area, I will definitely come back to check out more items from the menu. read more

I don't frequent Hanco's much since it is sort of out of my way. However, whenever I get the chance to, I undoubtedly do, with the loyalty card in my hand!! You get a free sandwich after achieving 9 stamps, each of which is collected upon the purchase of 1 sandwich. Totally encourages you to indulge in more of their delicious banh mis! I love that they have a wheat bread option for the healthier souls. They make great sandwiches with different meat selections and concoct a great iced Vietnamese sandwich. I could only comment about the beef pho because that's what I had here. The soup was pretty good and strangely addictive, but the contents not so. The small strips of beef was a bit dry and tasteless. I'm thinking this happened because they have been hanging out in the broth for so long that all their taste was transferred into the soup. I went here for the first time with a friend. I was made to feel rushed right off the bat. When said I was dinning I she told me they closed at 9. It was 8:50. I jokingly said I'll eat fast, which I usually do. It's not my fault it takes you 10 min to prepare food. There was a man mopping the floors while foods being prepared , they had several orders they were working on. Def not sanitary to do that. The board of health would def fine then for that. They may get a call as well. I got my food and the same man mopping was now aggressively opening and closing the door blowing my hair everywhere , which was super annoying. Then some third man bends over and yells Closed I'm eating ! I'll never go here again and I wish I went somewhere else tonight. I've tried a lot of different Vientamese spots in New York, and the dishes at Hanco's were impressive . Everything was flavorful and fresh. Recommend the summer rolls (very thin and moist skin), Pho, and Vermicelli Noodle Bowl with BBQ pork. Only qualms is that the portion sizes aren't comparable to Chinatown and they don't offer tendon in the pho choices. read more

I love bahn mi's! I must have one once a week. I don't work to far from this location. I'm kind of in the middle of this location and the Montague location. So I rotate between the two. The bahn mi I always get in vegetarian chicken with medium spice "for here". It's my fave aka I never order anything else. It's crowded here but this location is close to a bunch of cool coffee shops so dessert or coffee is also covered. My faves are Blue Bottle, One Girl, Bien Cuit and Konditori. Enjoy! read more

First time trying a Vietnamese sammich and it was soooooooo good. I tried the dark meat chicken sammich and it was good but when I took a bite of my husbands pork sammich, I liked that one better. The pork was softer than the chicken but they were both delicious. The veggies were fresh and the sauce is excellent. We had the summer roll too, which was excellent. Personally was really surprised to even find a pho place in Brooklyn as the surrounding restaurants seem to either sell pizza or other American food. I'm a big fan of this place and this location in particular. For over a year, I have been ordering take-out from the Hanco's in Brooklyn Heights. There has always been something wrong with the delivery from the Hanco's in Brooklyn Heights- either the rice would be too mushy, the baguette on the bahn mi would be too soggy, or the food was just cold (most likely because it was delivery). But, this location in Cobble Hill strangely doesn't deliver to my neck of woods in Downtown Brooklyn. My friend and I happened to be walking around the ritzy side of Cobble Hill and decided to sit down and have lunch here. Both my friend and I ordered a grilled pork bahn mi and a Vietnamese iced coffee. I also ordered a pork chop rice entree to share. The first bite of the grilled pork bahn mi sandwich was heavenly. The baguette was crisp and had just the right amount of carrots, radish, hot sauce and then some- Sriracha sauce available if you need some more hot sauce. The grilled pork chop rice entree was also delicious. The rice dish comes with obviously rice, mesclun salad, carrots, radish, and pork chop with a side of fish sauce, and of course hot sauce. The price of their food is definitely on the higher end, since you can probably get a similar bahn mi sandwich in Chinatown for about $5. But nevertheless, the food is still delicious. You really can't beat the bang-to-buck ratio but there are definitely some better bánh mì shops in the city. Though I love bánh mì, I can't say I'm an expert at dissecting them and there is something that is missing in the Hanco's sandwiches. Is it the lack of mayo? Not enough veggies? Weak flavor? Could be all of the above, or maybe it's something in the bread. Whatever it is it, I've had better but these aren't the worst! Their boba shines more than the sandwiches and I've stopped by the shop just for the drinks alone. I was craving some pho during my lunch hours at work and stumbled upon this spot. After reading through some of the reviews I decided to give it a try. I ordered the beef pho and I must say it was pretty solid beef broth. The noodle texture here is better than many pho restaurants that I've been to. Considering that many of the Asian restaurants within walking distance from where I work are mediocre at best, I was surprised to find out that this place surpassed my expectations. Came here with my two coworkers last week, after one of them raved about how delicious their tofu bahn mi was. I have never tried a tofu bahn mi before, so I was so excited to eat it! I have to say that their tofu bahn mi was fantastic, but wish there was more tofu in the sandwich. The sauce was delicious and complemented the sandwich. I also ordered the classic bahn mi, which was delicious as well (super meaty). But when comparing it to my most favorite bahn mi shop (Ba Xuyen), Hanco's didn't beat it. But nonetheless, I really enjoyed the tofu bahn mi and the classic bahn mi. If I am ever around the neighborhood, I would definitely come here to grab the tofu & classic bahn mi again.
