Beautiful property. Right on the beach.. The room we stayed in had alot of nostalgic surfing pictures. It was very clean. Quiet. Did not want to leave.

Everything was perfect about this place. Staff was awesome and friendly, location was awesome and the unit we had was clean and had the perfect views. We didn't want to leave it. So peaceful listening to the ocean and waking to the beautiful sunrises. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Hana.

We have company and came for one night instead of a single day RT. We ve been to Hana Kai before but in in a different unit. So we have a end unit, ground floor. Clear view of the harbor from the couch Or Lanai. Very nice with coffee. The kitchen has every thing I needed for Italian dinner. I brought foil. Coffee supplied for one pot. It s very clean and nicely furnished. One bathroom, one full bedroom and two couch beds. The couch beds were more bed than couch and worked Out very well. Best view at sunrise. We would return

My family absolutely loved staying here! We loved the view from the patio. Listening to the ocean at night was so calming and relaxing. One night was just not enough! We will be back this Summer.

Stayed here for a weekend. Prices are okay. Views are awesome. Right by the beach so when you sleep you can hear the ocean. They have a lanai (a balcony) so you can sit and have coffee while you enjoy the view. One of the staff are friendly and let us know about the deep off box to put the key in if we left early in the morning. Parking maybe limited if you arrive late in the evening.. The room we stayed in had a queen sized bed 2 small mini refrigerators a nice cooking area. Just enough for a couple. There's no tv...

Stayed in room 101 for 5 nights. Hana Kai Maui has no air conditioning, no pool and no daily room service. I had to take out our trash and change out our linens. Room 101 is at the end of the building. The drive to check in was below our room. This hotel has many people who only stay one night. We had cars and lights shining in our room until late in the night. Terrible room if you value your sleep. To top it off, the room above us was under construction for a day. The manager who was extremely nice and professional said she would provide a credit but not sure how much. And truly I would have preferred a quieter room than a credit. Knowing we were going to be here for 5 nights not sure why we weren't moved to another room? Especially since the majority of the rooms are one night rentals. Our mistake is that we booked through hotel.com which switched us to VRBO and VRBO specified a room number. We thought we were renting directly from an owner but that doesn't seem to be the case. If you are staying here book directly. Make sure you are not in room 101.

My wife, two sons (12 yrs., 10 yrs.), and I enjoyed a peaceful 2 night stay at this condo. Listening to the waves crashing on the surf and enjoying coffee on the lanai next to the kitchen were memorable. We stayed in Room #5 (Kaahumanu), which is next to the ocean. This unit is in the lower building (same as the reception desk) on the right side of the top floor (near the koi pond). The interior of the unit was clean and well-decorated with a kitchen area that had plenty of utensils. In August, it was a bit difficult to sleep soundly on the 2nd night due to high humidity (dew point was oppressive at 72 degrees) and a lack of air conditioning. But the spectacular view and peaceful setting for dining outdoors on the lanai were great. Check-in was from 2pm to 8pm. The reception desk allows guests to do their own laundry for $10 (and will provide laundry detergent). Also, the Hana Kai Maui permits guests to rent out beach towels at no charge, but does not provide beach chairs or umbrellas. Although Hana has 2 general stores (which close by 7pm or 7:30pm) for basic items like eggs and milk, I would strongly recommend picking up bottled water, juices, snacks, toothpaste, or ground coffee in Kahului at the Walmart, Safeway, or Costco there before taking the Road to Hana. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Hana Kai Maui. Since the individual units vary in quality, I would check the reviews before reserving a specific unit. That said, if you cannot live without air conditioning, you may want to skip an overnight stay in Hana.

    * price: $300 per night. Since there aren't that many places in this area, you have to pay a bit more for a decent place. It is half of what you would pay at Travaasa Hana. 3+ star. * Location: Hana bay, Waikoloa black sand beach! 5 star. * Accomodation: apartment condo type. Each unit has kitchen with full supply, bathroom with tub, bed rooms. Some has loft, some has living room. All unit has lanai with ocean view. Free wifi, no TV and A/C though. 4+ star. * Motif: Hawaiian style, clean. The ground is well kept with koi ponds and water falls. 4 star. * Service: friendly. 4+ star. It is 4+ star for the hotel (for their class in the area, not comparing to Grand Walea, Ritz, Hyatt, etc.) For unit #103, it is about 3 star. We stayed here last year and were in unit #202. Since we loved the area so much so decided to visit here again. Unfortunately, the other unit was not available. We got unit#103 as the only one vacant for one night. Overall, Hana Kai Maui is the same as before with the same staff. It is very quaint and has the best view of Hana bay. Everything in our unit works. However, because it is located on the first floor of upper building, you do not have the full panaromic view of the bay. The ceiling is low. It is a one bedroom apartment so your bedroom does not get trade wind. The night we stayed here, it was rainy and warm with no wind... so even though we left all patio doors ( bed room and livin room) opened, it was impossible to sleep in 80 degree humidity! Also, the bedroom has lanai opened to the parking lot... so you will hear everything from the street! I still like this place and still recommend it to my peeps but would recommend to book early and try to get either 2nd floor or those units in the lower building. They also have new policy for noise due to so many complaints on social media. So, you probably will not have problem with noise at night but you also will not be able to watch movie on your device without headset... and no music or party after 8 PM! Tips: Book early for and floor unit or the lower building (Ocean front). Stock your fridge. Make sure to put food away. There are many ants here! Bring headset if you are going to watch movie on your devices. You can get fruits and supplies at Hana Ranch store about 5 min into town. There are also some local restaurants and food truck in town but close early. There is a small gas station in town. The unit does supply cooking utensil, cooking oil with some spices, coffee, towels, soap and shampoo, and hair dryer.

Hana Kai was fantastic- what a picturesque spot on the coast of Hana bay. The staff were gracious (and the woman checking us in was fluent in Japanese which was a delight). Sleeping with the sea breeze and sound of the waves was heavenly.

Yesterday evening (5/24/2018) around 7:30pm. Ocean view from our patio.

I found this place on VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner) aka HomeAway phone app. It was on the pricey side at around $300 per night. There's not much available around Hana so it's to be expected. These units are individual condos with studios, one bedroom, and two-bedroom units all with a view of the ocean. We stayed on a second floor studio. The kitchen had all the amenities. It was clean and spacious with high ceilings and a loft. There was ample parking. We really enjoyed watching the sunrise over the water from our bed. It was amazing!! Totally worth staying the night for. We do advise bringing groceries as there isn't much available in Hana and what is available is quite expensive for what you get. We ended up eating at a food truck for dinner and a walk up breakfast place on the bay in the morning. We took a walk along the very rocky black sand beach in the morning. We were the only ones on the beach and it was nice.

Heaven on Earth! The place was breath taking. we stayed in a 1 bedroom for 4 nights and had the best time. Plan to come back for sure. Hana is slow, slow, slow.. and relaxing. Great place to stay, clean, friendly and pleasant. You can buy food at the local store or bring it when you drive from the airport and make it you self in the kitchen or the BBQ area.

LOVED our stay here after a busy day sightseeing. Stayed in room 101. It is the ground floor of the back building but has an EXCELLENT view of the bay and black sand beach. The place was furnished well and had a great floor plan. Kitchen window also opens up for pass through to lanai dining area. Built in sofas also convert to two twin sleepers. All doors have floor to ceiling sliders for privacy, view, and screens for the breeze. The kitchen was fully stocked and allowed us to prepare a nice meal of Maui beef steaks, local salad greens and wine all from the small store up the street.it was nice to play games with our kids on the lanai, listen to the waves, relax, and reconnect. We knew ahead about the thin walls from reading prior reviews and just used our "ocean waves"iPhone app to drown out the neighbor noise and had no issues sleeping. The front desk lady was super friendly and even offered us a papaya from her personal home when we left. It was appreciated and delicious and by the way. Mahalo!

Ok so I didn't get to stay here but I performed a wedding for a couple who were staying there. They loved the place and the grounds were beautiful and peaceful. An excellent choice for a sweet and private wedding and honeymoon in Hana.

The living room, with door to deck on the right. The place was very clean, BTW.

Great accommodations and clear instructions on procedures and policies that they send and communicate via e-mail. Also a wonderful location in the center of Hana Town. Codes are provided in the e-mail a few days prior to your arrival...one is for the downstairs main living room and kitchen, and the other is for your room and assigned bathroom. The rates are reasonable and much cheaper than the resort or even other B&Bs nearby. I guess the only issue was having to deal with any mosquitos, knowing this side of the island tends to be more lush compared to places like Kihei and Lahaina. Luckily, I did have my own mosquito repellant, but maybe for those who are more prone to mosquito bites and may have forgotten to pack some with them, perhaps some bug repellent spray could be provided. Anyways, I hope to stay at Hana Inn again sometime down the road. It sure beats having to deal with the crazy and bad traffic where I live in Honolulu.

Hana is "old Hawaii," what it was like years before noisy tourists came demanding to be entertained with silly luau's and high-rise hotels filled with mini bars. The pace is slow, the natural beauty is stunning, and there are many places to see, but if you really want to get off the grid, this is the place. If not, don't stay in Hana, and try and find your aloha somewhere else. Bayhouse Hana is one many accommodations that you'll discover on Uakea Rd. My wife and I stayed at Tuttu's House, just one house up, for a few nights and were delighted when we entered the property. It's run by husband and wife Bill and Anita, who keep the unit clean and modern. All of the appliances worked, the view from the living room is fabulous, and there's a place to sit outside to enjoy a meal or BBQ. There's an upstairs unit that is under renovation, and occupied by a quiet local tenant. Just a few other tips before I end the review... Getting to and departing Hana. There's always been two roads in and out of Hana, but the less windy road is now better paved. Unfortunately, the mini tour buses that flock to Hana daily, use this road to leave town. The road is very narrow in parts, and the tour buses don't always share it or follow driving rules. They're in a hurry to get a bus load of cranky tourists back to their resorts, giving info over their headsets, and not paying attention to oncoming traffic. The good news is that only happens during the first ten miles out of Hana, or until the road straightens out, but that can be a very stressful hour if you don't plan it right. Leave Hana in this direction early (before 9) or in the late afternoon.

We planned to spend a day driving and sight-seeing, arrive in Hana for the night, and then get up bright and early to hit Haleakala National Park further on down the road. This is the place the we booked in Hana, and we were seriously glad we did. First of all, just as promised, we got an amazing view of the beach. It's across the street from the Bay, and at 5:30 or 6 A.M., I walked down to snap some pictures. Straight out of my camera, they looked like postcards. Easily one of the best sunrises I've seen in my life. As for the place itself, it feels less like a rental property and more like a home. The kitchen was stocked with some basic non-perishable items (extra-virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, bottled water in the fridge, some A1 sauce, etc.) and enough supplies to make a meal yourself (regular and ceramic knives, foil, cookie sheets, I think a few pots, a baster, and a scrub-brush for the sink). We went into town and got steaks and potatoes. Broiled and baked them in the oven without a problem. There's a good-sized TV in the living room with a good selection of movies (The Mask, Stripes, The Dark Knight Rises, almost surprisingly, The Red Violin...) and a DVD/Blu-Ray player. The couch can fit about three people, and folds into a bed. Obviously not the best bed (more like a cot), but it's an option. The bedroom has a King-sized bed with comfortable sheets and memory foam. In height, it looks literally king-sized. The thing is massive. There's a smaller TV in an armoire in this room, a nightstand, and some outlets. About as expected. I was in love with their bathroom, though. Plenty of space, a linen closet (stocked with towels), a nice sink with a clean mirror, and oh my god, the shower. Big enough to fit about three of me (I'm 6'1), wonderfully even water pressure, and it has its own light that makes everything cream-yellow and dreamy. There's a tiny window with a screen in there, just big enough to let in some early-morning air or a late breeze, but high up and small enough that it doesn't feel creepy. Definitely my favorite feature of the place. There's also a space underneath the stairs going out that has a gate. Inside are some boogie boards and I think one surfboard. Didn't test them out, but it's great that they had them. After racking my brain, the only problems I can find with the place are that they could use some hypoallergenic pillows (they had down ones), and the sink lacked a garbage disposal. Didn't really expect one. Just something I noticed. Overall, for the money and the area, I can't imagine a better deal. We only stayed for a night, but from what we saw, it's an excellent spot. If you're doing the Road to Hana, I'd definitely check it out.

The few reviews I read were often contradictory and not always flattering. I considered cancelling before finally deciding to roll the dice. We were all glad I did; we had a great time here. This review and accompanying photographs are my attempt to assist others considering Hale Hana Bay for their Hana lodging. Let's start off with this: Hale Hana Bay is NOT the same as Hana Bay Hale. Hale Hana Bay is a cottage that dates back to the brief period when companies attempted to grow sugar cane in this area of Maui. We couldn't decide whether it smelled more like Grandma's old farm house or the youth camp buildings we bunked in as kids. Either way, we liked it. It is definitely rustic. We could see daylight through a couple cracks in its single wall construction. The furnishings were worn but perfectly functional. The floor was painted wood covered with rugs. It was all fine with us. We weren't looking for luxury. There was a new HD flat screen TV on one of the dressers but we never turned it on. There was no internet access but there was cell service with 3G data access, if I recall correctly (AT&T). The three of us had plenty of room to spread out here. This was the only house we stayed in during our 23 days on the islands; the rest were mostly condos and hotel rooms. It was nice to have a place entirely to ourselves. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals, important due to Hana's extremely limited choices for dining and shopping. (We brought groceries with us from Kahului.) The washer and dryer were a nice convenience as well. (Bring your own laundry soap.) The one bit of luxury we did enjoy at Hale Hana Bay was its shower. It was huge and there was definitely not a 2 gallon-per-minute limiter on the shower head. Even Lewis looked forward to taking a shower here! Our most memorable experience at the cottage was the rain storm that arrived our first night here. Since we all enjoy listening to storms, we considered this a real treat. The wind was blowing so hard the entire house shook from time to time. I had to close the glass louvers facing Hana Bay because rain drops were coming through the screen and landing on the bed 15 feet away. With no attic and no insulation, we could hear every drop hit the roof. Palm fronds wacked the side of the house. A coconut dropped down on the roof as we listened, causing us all to jump. It was a fun little adventure. The next morning a gorgeous sunrise occurred right out the front window over the bay. If you're thinking of spending a night or two in Hana--and I definitely recommend it as there are many things you won't have time to do on a day trip from the other side of Maui--you won't find a better value than Hana Hale Bay. If your tastes run more toward rustic than luxury, it is an excellent choice. Highly recommended.

He has made many improvements with new bedding, linens and new paint. He even added WIFI! Fortunately, it still has that homegrown, childhood memory feel for me. Wooden boarded interior, tin roof, simple amenities. Pots, pans, dishes, cups, dish soap, basic cleaning supplies are included. As always, very clean. Itʻs our favorite place to stay in Hana.

I put my credit card number down to hold the room, and you pay her cash when checking in at the office, which is her place of residence. It looks like there were 2 rentals on her property, but the one we stayed at was just around the block on Hana Hwy. The 3 of us paid a total of $130. What a deal for an entire house compared to other vacation rentals. THE HOUSE: It's definitely older but was clean. We had use of a 2-car garage, full kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom (shower but no tub) and 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two twins. There's a small balcony which has a great view of Hana Bay. The sole TV in the living room has basic cable. The cabinets were stocked with plates, cups and utensils. They provided us with towels but we all brought our own. The sofas in the living room were definitely old and sunk badly. The beds were adequate. There are just 2 drawbacks. First, the bedroom with the two twin beds had something in the ceiling & walls making a scratching noise. Ratatouille perhaps? Second, the house is located above the owner's son's place. Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am. You have to be out of the house by 10:45am on your day of departure. You simply go back to the office and hang the key outside the door. OVERALL: Very decent digs for the price. It feels great to support a local business as opposed to the fancier vacation rentals. The owner is a sweet elderly lady who even let us park our car at her office which was closer to the Taro Fest. We'd definitely go back.
