Super great place to stay! Great location and owners. Away from the crowds but still close enough to the beaches and town.

Owners Eva and Jim are awesome and have operated the bed and breakfast for many years now and it was such a pleasure to meet them during my stay as well as meet their family and super cute energetic smaller terrier dogs. I was in the Papaya Suite and definitely plenty of space, with a separate bedroom, kitchen bathroom, and the living room! And did I mention, the great breakfast food and other snacks in the provided basket as well as fresh fruit, cereal, milk and other items inside the refrigerator and freezer? Definitely saved me time and money from having to drive to the nearest bakery or market! Yes, this is a real Bed & Breakfast and definitely worth every dollar! There are three other suites available for booking and there is usually no minimum stay required except during certain times of the year like the holiday season or special local events, for instance. Also, guests are offered a 10% discount if they pay in check/cash versus charging to their credit/debit card, and I opted to provide Eva with the check. You will also find two common areas, and one of them is right outside the Papaya Room on the ground level where there are other tables, chairs, and a BBQ. The other common area is upstairs on the lanai, where there are more tables and chairs, and ultimately a lovely view of Kihei and the West Maui Mountains! Definitely would love to come back and stay at Maui What A Wonderful World Bed and Breakfast for the next stay in Kihei and South Maui!

Our hosts were Eva and Jim and they were more than generous with the breakfast and amenities at their home. During our stay in the Pineapple suite, the restroom/kitchenette/bedroom were organized and had plenty of space for two people. It was easy to feel at home within the first few minutes after settling in. Eva was easily accessible for questions about the island/ local recommendations and was more than accommodating for our breakfast options (fresh local fruit, pastries, coffee, etc.). There was also onsite laundry, swim gear, and sunscreen/mosquito repellent. Whatever Eva was managing with guests, we also observed that Jim kept up with quick repairs/maintenance on the property. My partner's favorite part of this stay was the fruit and their dogs!!! I too loved their fur babies in addition to the view from the second floor deck (phenomenal during sunset). We are truly impressed with the hospitality and welcome that these seasoned hosts provided.

The B&B part is a spacious guest house with a living room, bedroom with small kitchenette, and an interesting bathroom arrangement...the toilet and shower are in a glassed in enlcosure looking out over the jungle! The estate is spacious and has some incredible views of the ocean and cliffs south of Hana. It's not a beach resort but there are already plenty of those around Maui and this place offers something unique and special. The best part of this place is how incredibly private it is, there are no other tourists around. Arabella is a lovely and gracious hostess who is quite interesting to talk to. There are a few minor problems...lots of gnats in the bathroom, a toaster oven that only half works, a very excitable puppy (who Arabella is happy to restrain if she gets too rambunctious), and a lack of a stove/oven. Still, there is a functioning propane grill, a rice cooker, and a microwave so it's possible to make a tasty meal for yourself on the premises, just do come prepared. These are actually relatively minor problems, I highly recommend this space and will definitely come back next time I visit Maui.

Whether you're celebrating a…read morehoneymoon, anniversary, or simply seeking a tranquil escape, this boutique gem offers the perfect blend of luxury, serenity, and authentic Hawaiian charm. From the moment you arrive, Dan, the long-time host and owner, makes you feel like ohana (family). With over two decades of experience, he has perfected the balance of attentiveness and respect for privacy. Need advice on where to go or what to do? Dan's wealth of local knowledge is invaluable. Prefer uninterrupted relaxation? You'll feel as though you have the entire property to yourself. The house itself, designed in an exquisite Balinese style, is breathtaking. Open-air architecture invites the soothing Maui breezes, while every detail--from the hand-carved furnishings to the lush tropical landscaping--creates an atmosphere of pure elegance. The rooms are spacious, light-filled, and luxurious, each featuring outdoor showers and bathtubs where you can enjoy steaming hot water under the stars or as the sun rises over the West Maui mountains. Now, let me address a key concern for anyone planning a visit post-Lahaina fires: Ho'oilo House and its neighborhood, Launiupoko, remain untouched by the devastation. This area is as pristine and idyllic as you've always dreamed Maui would be. Plus, local restaurants, bars, and attractions are open, welcoming visitors with aloha. By staying here, you're supporting the community at a time when it's needed most--and the experience far surpasses that of a large resort. With complimentary breakfast, free parking, unparalleled privacy, and personal attention from the host, Ho'oilo House offers unbeatable value. If you're unsure, I urge you to call Dan directly. His warmth and sincerity will instantly put you at ease, and you'll quickly see why this place is so special. My wife and I both agreed: if we could redo our honeymoon, we wouldn't hesitate to spend it at Ho'oilo House. Pro tip: While every room is a masterpiece, the Nalu room was absolutely perfect for us. Don't overthink it--Ho'oilo House is the Maui experience you've been searching for. We'll be counting down the days until we can return.

The house is located uphill from Lahaina in a residential area which is kinda secluded, serene and quiet but it's a short drive away from the busier part of town. The B&B is adults only which makes for an even more relaxing stay. Our hosts were very helpful and attentive. When we arrived the front doors to the house were open and there was an envelope with a welcoming letter taped to the door for us. We made our way around the house then outside to the gorgeously manicured garden and pool area, and then to our room. I had an initial moment of shock when I realize there was no key to get into the suite and no way of locking our door upon leaving for the day but then I experienced the most liberating feeling when I realized I really didn't need to lock anything, the house is very safe and all of the other guests (which aren't that many since there's only 6 suites) respect each other's privacy and space. There is a safe in the suite however, if you need to store any valuable items. We stayed in the Kohola suite which was one of the two rooms with a view. Besides the amazing views (especially the sunset views which you may enjoy from your private lanai, from your bed or even while you shower!) the suite had a very comfortable bed, lots of comfortable pillows, an outside shower, a nice ivory stone tub, a small fridge and an electric kettle along with tea and instant Starbucks coffee. Due to COVID the continental breakfast is provided individually for each room as opposed to buffet style. We were asked to fill out a form the night before with our requests of items such as toast, muffins, hard boiled eggs, granola, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, etc and our hosts would have breakfast ready for us at our requested time. We usually had breakfast by the pool but you can certainly take the tray to your room if you'd prefer a bit more privacy. Also due to COVID, they were not providing scheduled daily housekeeping service which was no bid deal, especially since if we needed any extra towels, coffee or toiletries all we needed to do is let Dan or Amy know and they would take care of it. We were also able to borrow beach chairs and a beach umbrella for the day, they were available on a first come first serve basis. Definitely recommend staying at the Ho'oilo house if you're looking for a stress free, serene, relaxing vacation.

Absolutely awesome accommodations…read more Well first you have a lovely and very private space to call your own. Combine that with a very warm and friendly host (Sharon) and our stay could not have been better. The Rainbow Lookout met all our needs and had everything we needed in the kitchen, plenty of towels for bath and beach, beach chairs, ice chest, and extra scuba equipment. We could walk down the private road to catch the sunrise; we drank our coffee In the hottub and we swam in the very nice lagoon style pool every single day. When we return to Maui we will definitely come back. We loved the home and surrounding areas and enjoyed the natural setting as well. If you don't like nature and want to be pampered by hotel staff then don't come here. If you don't mind seeing a gecko scramble across the rocks, then you'll be ok here. If you want to see what it's like to actually live like a Maui denizen then this is the place for you. Sharon could not have been more responsive and accommodating. The fruit and bread and eggs and wine got us off to a great start! Thanks for everything! We had an absolute blast. Stayed: June 2018

Huelo is located on Maui's rugged north shore, 20 minutes east of the small town of Paia on the…read moreroad to Hana. Since you're 20 minutes' drive from the nearest town, this place is super-secluded, but offers all of the amenities you could imagine. The road down to the place is only partially paved (last time we were there in 2003, anyway,) and so you have a very slow, bumpy ride down. We first did it in some kind of crapmobile rental, and whenever we tried to take the road too quickly, residents along the way come out and give you the stink-eye. Not worth busting your axle anyway, so take it slow. Huelo Point Lookout is just about the last place, down the last driveway on the last road as you make your way off the Hana Highway and down toward the coast. Some of the cottages on the property offer ocean views (the main house, for example,) but for the most part the coast is hidden from view, so if you're looking for beach front, this is not for you. What we loved about Huelo is that it's much more of a rapidly changing environment than getting a cookie-cutter chain hotel place in Wailea, Kaanapali or in Kapalua. It's a more rugged and unexpected experience with lots of wind, quick, fleeting rainstorms and amazing tranquility and seclusion. No kids in the communal pool yelling all day, no one next door making noise. You literally feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. Both times we have stayed there, we opted for the Haleakala Cottage, which is basically a studio apartment (free standing, no immediate neighbors) with a full kitchen, patio, its own Jacuzzi and the best part: a FANtastic outdoor shower. The small office, with 2 sets of washers and dryers plus all the linens you could ever need (including fabulous, huge beach towels) is just around the corner from this cottage, and me being a laundry freak, I was in heaven (guests have free access to the laundry facilities anytime.) Owners Jeff and Sharyn Stone and their sweet son, Kai, have gone out of their way to provide their guests with privacy and seclusion, without being so absent that you don't feel well taken care of. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of fresh, whole-bean coffee, and you can also order special treats like additional flowers or chocolates for your arrival (my husband surprised me with this on our honeymoon.) In all, I think we've spent a total of almost 3 weeks here over our two trips to Hawaii, and I would stay there again in a snap. The only perceived drawback might be the distance from the place to the nearest sign of civilization, but keep in mind that Maui is only so big, so any place, including Hana or even Wailea on the southern west coast is only 40-60 minutes drive away. And when you're in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, on vacation, what do you have more of than leisure time? Recommendations: - Take your watches off when you arrive and put them away someplace. Go with the light and rise when you want, eat when you want, be active when you want and sleep when you want. - Bring some food in from one of the places in Paia to keep around -- fruit, milk, etc. - daily supplies that will keep you going since you're a good 20 minutes from the grocery store, and driving that road at night can be precarious. - I'm going to write a review of this as well, but the Paia Fish Market, right on the main corner of town is unbelievably good. I recommend the fish and chips with lots of vinegar and Tabasco. Ugh. I am drooling thinking about it. - Pack a picnic and head to Hana for the day. Take every opportunity to turn left as you head out and get to the coast for amazing, out-of-the-way waterfalls. Ignore signs for private property if you're particularly adventurous (which we were.)

There's also a small room in the main building stocked with coffee and cream pods, ice, snacks, and even sunscreen, which was a thoughtful touch. We stayed in a ground floor room toward the back of the property, which felt very private and cozy. The room was lovely and included a Keurig with coffee pods, which I appreciated. Although our wedding itself was held offsite, the inn became the heart of our entire celebration - a place where our families could connect, relax, and spend meaningful time together. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the beautiful interior design.. it is curated, warm, and full of character. The bedrooms were spacious, clean, and incredibly well stocked with everything guests could need. The robes and snacks in each room were so thoughtful. The grounds are just as special. The gardens are lush and peaceful, and the outdoor furniture is so stylish. One of our favorite touches was the "Aloha Room," which was so thoughtfully equipped with water, snacks, hot water, a microwave, and even sunscreen..details like this really set the inn apart. We were also fortunate to host a small dinner onsite, and the ambiance was truly stunning - intimate, elegant, and quintessentially Maui. Every single guest staying at the inn commented on how much they loved their room, which speaks volumes. Breakfast each morning was lovely, and Lupe, the housekeeper, was incredibly attentive and kind throughout our stay. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the level of service. Ramu went above and beyond in every way - accommodating our special requests, always being available, and communicating with us seamlessly throughout the entire process. The level of care and responsiveness was exceptional. Parking was easy and ample. This is truly a hidden gem on Maui. If you're looking for a place to gather with loved ones in a setting that is both beautiful and deeply welcoming, you simply cannot do better. 10/10, we would recommend it without hesitation.
