I normally purchase all of my lumber and paint from Hamshaw lumber, and have for over 25 years. I went in today to purchase an empty paint can, to transfer some paint into a clean container. They had 1 paint can on the shelf, but no lid. The price marked on the shelf was $5.99. i picked up a cheap plastic lid hoping she would at least give me a discount or find me a lid so i did not have to buy one, that was supposed to come with the pail. Nope, the empty paint can rang up at 6.99 and she rang up the cover at 2.59 for a total of $9.58 for an empty paint can. I told her to keep it and i would go to Home Depot to get it. IHome Depot price was 6.99 and it came with a cover. I think Hamshaws need to empower their employees, the ability to work with the customer, if there is an issue, like i experienced. I've been to a lot of hardware stores and my local Ace stores are nowhere near what this Ace /Hamshaws store is: by far, 1) size: this store is a decent square footage. I prefer to go to smaller stores than the big box superstores when I can to support local smaller business and to get things more quickly- this size has plenty to offer but it's faster than walking through a mega store to get a few screws or a new tool. 2) selection: hands down, this store has far more in stock than all other Aces and local smaller stores when it comes to power tools/ power tool option models from Dewalt, Makita, craftsman, black and decker and Bosch- among others. Decent selection of most things you could ever need for your projects and household stuff. Any time I've ordered online the order is there and ready. Recommended. read more

Completely disappointed in Hamshaw lumber in Keene NH for a multitude of reasons. #1 they sold me a floor that required special glue for installation yet they don't stock the glue-seriously? #2 We ordered a big fancy door for our reno about 5 weeks ago and it hasn't come yet. Have had a hole in my house for 8 days now because it was promised and then repromised without any results. Now my Contractor finds out that my door has finally arrived at Hamshaw's because that's what the invoice says, but THEY CANT FIND IT! How can you not find a door? What kind of business are they running? I am sooo angry and will let everyone I know about this continued awful customer service that I have been receiving. read more

My fiancé went in person to apply for this job and one of the managers Tim was extremely rude and told him if they didn't find anyone better they would contact him and questioned him over and over if he was actually committed and wanted to be there. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

He has gone above and beyond for me many times, as well as working directly with my clients to fine tune their preferences, making me look good at my job. This place has the worst order management of anyone I've ever dealt with. I ordered a ton of wood pellets for delivery and paid for them a month ago. I called to confirm delivery and found out they were planning to ship the wrong product. I've been waiting all day for a call giving a delivery time for the corrected order but not a word from the seller. I wouldn't use Hamshaw Lumber again for anything even if they were giving it away. read more

I receive special discount mailers from Ace, however when I go to use them it seems the item I am looking forward is not carried and I wind up going elsewhere. example: miracle grow liquid bottles for my miracle grow hose attachment. "if its not on the shelf, we don't have it." That was my response. Poor business I would say. read more
