I would never recommend Hampton Meridian under its current management to any family. When we moved in back in May 2024, the experience started out great. The front desk staff was personable, responsive, and helpful. But halfway through our lease, the property was sold to Can-Am Properties, and everything changed. The original manager and front desk staff disappeared without explanation, and the new management showed a complete lack of care, urgency, and professionalism--especially when it came to resident safety.
A few months before our move-out, I was physically attacked by a neighbor's dog while walking with my two-year-old son. The dog ran straight out of their home and bit me, leaving me with visible wounds that required urgent care and rounds of shots, as the dog's vaccination records couldn't be provided. Even more disturbing--there were multiple breed-restricted dogs in that household, which was a clear violation of the lease agreement.
My husband reported the incident immediately to the front office. At first, they said the household would be evicted because of the breed-restricted dog, but we made it clear we weren't pushing for eviction--we just wanted the dogs removed for our safety. Two weeks later, I witnessed a young girl running from the same house in tears, holding her arm, saying she'd been bitten. I called the office again. It took over a month from the date of the first attack for the property to take action. Meanwhile, my family lived in fear--afraid to even step outside--because the dogs continued getting loose.
Before this traumatic experience, my son and I would walk through the neighborhood daily. We had friendly relationships with neighbors. After the attack, we were scared to leave our front door. The lack of urgency, accountability, and concern from management is something I wouldn't wish on any family.
When we moved out, things only got worse. My husband brought documentation showing that my last name had changed after our marriage and confirmed with staff that our refund check would be issued correctly. They still sent the check in my maiden name. On top of that, over $400 was withheld from our deposit--with no explanation. We'd asked in advance for a detailed breakdown of any charges, and they refused to provide one, despite our apartment being left in pristine condition. The unit we moved into originally wasn't clean (there was hair dye on the floor, dirt in the corners, and scratches), all of which we documented upon move-in. They claimed our rent had been late twice by over 25 days--a complete fabrication. After we reached out, they admitted it was an error in their system, but we had to keep pushing just to get confirmation that a corrected check would be sent. Even now, we're still waiting for follow-up.
What's most embarrassing for this complex is that when I called to report the second dog attack, a manager from another Can-Am property happened to be in the office. She was so disturbed by what I told her that she gave me her personal contact info to ensure we were taken care of and even followed up with us a week later. That's the kind of care Hampton Meridian should be taking notes from--but clearly isn't.
This has been a horrifying experience for my family. Do not move here. If you value your safety, your peace of mind, and respectful communication with management, look elsewhere. Hampton Meridian under Can-Am Properties is unsafe, mismanaged, and completely unaccountable. read more
