Stink Bug city in room 219. We killed 2 the one night we were there.
    Michelle K.

In town for 1 night attending a family funeral. Most of our family members tend to stay here when in town. We have stayed here since this hotel was built. They have done a few nice updates since the last time we stayed. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Check in and check out went smoothly. This time we stayed in room 219 like a little suite. It had its own sitting area, desk and TV separate from the room. Nice.. The only issue we had during this stay was stink bugs.. Clyde was wonderful and came and captured one but later here com a another and my sister made me use Clyde's training (in which I failed) to catch the second. I had to try a different trap (ugh). I recommend when in the area but pray they have that stink bug issue resolved.

Overly priced for an outdated borderline unsanitary hotel. This hotel needs major major renovations and upgrades.

First time in many years that I stayed here…read more Since my last stay in 2010, Innkeeper is no longer a chain hotel and the Roxboro location is the only one remaining in business. The positives were that the room was clean, no noise, comfortable bed, wifi worked well, as did the HVAC. However there was a problem with the television. When I could not get the set to turn on with the remote, I called the front desk and was told that I had to turn it on via a button on the side of the set. While that did turn on the set, I was unable to get a channel to come on (getting a no signal message). Called the front desk again, and was told I had to hit another button to switch the tv to HDMI 1 or 2. That did turn on a station, but then I could not change channels at all. Third call to the front desk brought an employee to the room, who couldn't make the channels change either. She said she would try to get me another remote - and that was the last I heard from her. The next morning upon checkout, I mentioned the trouble with the tv and requested an adjustment to the bill, which they did with no argument. ($10 off) They also did it with no apology for the inability to watch tv or for the inconvenience. That leads me to assume that this must be a reoccurring problem. While waiting for them to do the adjustment to my bill, I noticed a "hotel rules" page that I guess is supposed to be read and signed by guests. It included lots of common sense things (you must wear clothes when outside your room) and other warnings about no guests and no parties. Seems like the Innkeeper caters to the non business, non family travelers now. Doubt that I will return.

The centerpiece of the house's interior is a rotunda supported by four Corinthian columns and lit by a stained glass window located on the roof. Walking into the foyer you cant help but embrace the timeless grace, where every corner whispers of history and a bygone era. There is a quiet serenity to the space, as if time slows just a little bit inside. The modern touch added to the old renovated mansion does come with a bit of a sharp, sterile elegance of a modern mansion. The Parlor is a great place to enjoy a delicious craft cocktail and even better, ADULTS ONLY! There are also many other lovely seating arrangements throughout the property, including outdoors, and a few even come with fire pits. Regardless of your intentions for visiting the Heights House, I am quite confident there will be no disappointments, unless they have a private event. Cheers!

Everything is lovely and though it is all modern and sleek, it still feels fitting for the original era of the house. The cocktail area takes up most of the main floor, with a stand-up bar just off the entryway with a few tables and then a larger lounging area with sofas and chairs just beyond. The drinks are exceptionally good, and the spirits menu is creative. They also offer a few small plates. There is plenty of paved parking immediately next to the hotel for guests only, so that is not a hassle as it can be at some B&B/inn-type establishments. At check-in, you are offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to set the tone. The rooms are comfortable, but I will say that the entry-level ones are quite small (which is apparent on the website), but for the rates charged there isn't even a place to sit and read a book other than the bed. There's one small, delicate wicker chair that would be for tying shoes or whatever, but not lounging. The bed is luxuriously dressed, and there is drawer space and a minifridge, but no closet -- hanging items can go on hooks by the door out in the open. The bathroom is spacious enough, with a broad sink and elegant tilework. The lighting fixtures throughout are nifty. I found the breakfast sort of average for this type of place. I came later on, so perhaps there is more earlier, but there were a few pastries, some hard-boiled eggs, and fruit when I arrived. There's also a fancy coffee-drink contraption, but those aren't my thing so I left that alone. It's a very easy walk across the Boylan Bridge and down a couple of blocks to the area of the Dillon with several restaurants, and the performing arts center is not far beyond that. Location-wise, there's plenty that's walkable but also more an easy drive away.

The hotel is now a Hyatt property and the renovations added modern touches to the sleeping rooms and lobby and restaurant. The rooms come equipped with a mini fridge, robes, a lovely Nespresso machine, and very comfortable bed. We had a delicious dinner at Crossroads and also a fantastic brunch buffet on Sunday morning. The hotel is known as a wedding venue so it is a great place to host rehearsal dinners and weddings and have the guests stay overnight. It is the university hotel and has the Carolina charm and history and is a great place to stay for alumni, weddings, or other local events. We got told to go to a million different places on the property and then we we were finally on track to find our room the owner of Berry Hill came up to us and told us the room we had booked was no longer available. She said that "an employee who no longer worked there" booked us in a room that isn't available for the weekend of the festival. She was incredibly condescending and was acting as if we did something wrong. They ended up putting us in a room that was much worse and smaller that the suite that we had booked. There was no apology for the mix up-- only the owner being rude and unkind towards us. You would think that she would want to make a good impression since this biggest weekend of the entire year for this resort. Besides our terrible check in experience, the hotel was nice. There were scratches on the floor but we had a nice balcony and big windows. We did find an ant in the bed though.

This "resort" is obviously geared toward wedding and events only. The hotel was completely booked…read morefor the weekend of the VIR races however also double booked Saturday with an outdoor party for 50+ with a DJ that was visible and audible for all resort attendees to hear and watch. Food service approved by what I was told were three cooks in a single kitchen facilitating the tavern, mansion dining room, catering and room service for all guests and event attendees plus locals coming in for just dinner. We waited over an hour each night for food at both Darbys and The Mansion. It appeared the private party took precedence over all hotel guests, even though they jacked the rate to $299 per night for race attendees over the weekend. So they charged a premium but then lacked the service of anything that should be called a resort. In addition the help(with the exception of the lovely gal at the front desk from 8am -8pm; and Cadence at Darby's), we're atrocious, short, rude, unprofessional, poorly attired, and completely untrained. House made special cocktails are made with Monin syrups instead of fresh ingredients. Bartenders have little to no experience in mixology and the menu and ingredients show. One kind but totally untrained and unskilled bartender was available in the "Mansion" dining area. Drinks were very slow, poorly executed, and no y in our party finished their first drink due to them being so sweet and artificial tasting from the use of fake syrups for juice. A bathroom is conveniently located next to our dining table so when each guest opened the door we would have a great view of the toilet they just used when they exited. Gross! Our waitress told us three times she would bring more bread, after 2:15 we never receive bread after being told three times we would. She disappeared because she didn't know what to say when the kitchen wasn't bringing our food. 4 adults and two kids sharing 4 entrees and three salads. Not a difficult task to execute. We inquired and were told 7 more minutes, after over an hour from when we ordered food. We were walking out after waiting an additional 15 minute to go to McDonalds before they closed, to walk into the bartender now bringing us out food because our waitress couldn't stop crying after being told she lied to us about the bread, disappeared a half hour ago and never came back and checked on us or gave us an update or explanation, and told me it wasn't her fault, they had no manager on site for the weekend and she was the only waitress(granted they only had 16 guests all night long in the dining room(and we were 6 of them)! She ended up discounting my friends bill 50% and mine only 30% claiming that's all she could do, even though the bartender who brought us food and apologized algae already told us we would get 1/2 off. It took her fussing at me in front of my daughter to get her to void the first charge and fix the bill. During this there were 4 employees sitting in the bar area talking about me and my friends. This had already occurred earlier with the bartender and my daughter and my friends daughter already overheard them talking poorly about us. We simply told our waitress we didn't want her to finally come back around to the table in another 20 minutes to find us all fine, so you need to call someone and explain we're leaving soon. She's 18 and very untrained and too much of a passive server to perform under any stress. Hiding in the bar was her answer to our disappointment. Now...to the rooms. First room was great, minus its one with no balcony and was $299 per night plus taxes and fees! Second nights room had a broken ironing board, old tv with lines going through it as you watched, and no apps for streaming. Not what you would expect for $299 a night! Then at 4:53pm the afternoon after we departed at 8am, they called me and were quite short about not having my credit card number to book the second night. I reluctantly gave them my card over the phone after already paying for the room when I checked in. Can't wait to see if I'm charged twice for the second night. Maybe having a wedding there is fine, but staying there will never ever happen again for my friends and I! My friends have stayed there the last three years for the race and they have nicknames it "Berry Hell" after this experience!
