The first thing to know about this Inn, is that most of it is actually a motel that they've added on to the back. A nice motel, but outside entries. I think they might have a few rooms in the original Inn part, but it looks like the majority at least are the two-story motel in the back. You can't beat this for a night if you want to explore the lovely town of Hillsborough, or for a short getaway from the Triangle. We opted to spend the night after a Saturday matinee at DPAC. It's only about 15 minutes from Durham. Parking is on the street or at a deck nearby. We found parking about 2 blocks on the street. Do know that the street and sidewalks are not smooth, so if you have mobility issues you might have a problem. We checked in and were given room 28 which was a double queen out back on the end. Nice and clean. There's a fridge in the room, and a couple complimentary plastic bottles of water. Free and easy wi-fi. Ceiling is super high up with a skylight. Art is, well, interesting. The cow that stared at me all night had a crease on his nose that made him looks split rather than 3D if that was the intent, LOL. Oddly enough the separate toilet area had high walls with no art at all. Shower is huge. And there's a sink in between. Big dislike for me was there was not a separate light for the toilet area, so at night, if you turned on the light, it lit up the whole bathroom which lit up the bedroom as well. Also, speaking of lights. There was a very bright light that shone at our room all night. I'm sure it's for security purposes, but a heavier shade or curtains would really help with that. They have coffee and tea in the lobby and in the morning they had muffins and granola type bars. Nothing exciting. Best part that we absolutely loved was hanging out in the bar and enjoying drinks and great food. I will review Spencer's Tavern separately. Tip: prices for this hotel/motel vary greatly depending on how busy they are, so you can get some great deals.

Old school vibes with a modern farm house twist. Some cool art on the walls in our suite for sale which I assume were from local artist. Nice touch and made it feel a little more personal than the average hotel. I only wish there was valet or more than street parking. Felt a little iffy about leaving my car on the street not knowing the town. Staff interaction was minimal but lovely. Easy check in. Highly recommend if you are visiting.

My mother booked the room. First, the refrigerator was barely cooler than room temperature. The mattress were beyond their time, were soft and had permanent body indents. The sheets were clean and neatly pressed. The room was extremely dark with no overhead lighting, even with all the lights on, it would be uncomfortable to read in bed. All that said, it was the condition of the bathroom that earned this low rating and review. The toilet seat was so loose, you had to be extremely careful while sitting and you had to hold onto the counter and side of tub to get up. The floor was missing large chunks of grout and filled with dirt, the shower head was pulled from the wall, hair was stuck to the wall above the shower, and last but not least, there was mold on the walls by the tub. With my mother being 83 and physically weak, she did not want to go through the hassle of switching hotels- however if it had been just me, I would have left immediately. At any other B&B I've been to (such as the nearby and exceptional Arrowhead Inn), they've been more than happy to accommodate us for breakfast whenever we wished. We parked overnight and the valet and front desk and all the staff are extremely friendly and hospitable. The standard rooms come with showers so I paid an upgrade for a bathtub. The rooms come equipped with a mini fridge, robes, a lovely Nespresso machine, and very comfortable bed. We had a delicious dinner at Crossroads and also a fantastic brunch buffet on Sunday morning. The hotel is known as a wedding venue so it is a great place to host rehearsal dinners and weddings and have the guests stay overnight. It is the university hotel and has the Carolina charm and history and is a great place to stay for alumni, weddings, or other local events. You are within walking distance of the campus and right by Franklin street. Thank you for making our staycation so fabulous!

Although note that you can't really walk to the main campus from here (although they provide a guest shuttle option). Check in was quick and easy, and staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, comfortable, and was stocked with luxury amenities like Nest bath products and a stocked Keurig machinene. The Rizzo Center also had a full-sized gym, complete with two stationary bikes, a rowing machine, a peloton, a cable machine, a couple of treadmills and machines, and full dumbbell sets. They also provided a guest pantry, which was open 24/7, and stocked with ice cream, soda, coffee and tea. They also had several laundry machines on each floor, free for guests to use. The complimentary breakfast on the first floor was great, and included oats, grits, fruits, yogurt, pastries and hot foods (frittata, scrambled eggs, french toast, sausage/bacon, etc.). Definitely recommend staying here when visiting the RTP area.
