I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Rizzo Center on a trip to the RTP area. The Rizzo Center was a spectacular stay, situated in a safe area, next to numerous walking trails, and provided a range of amenities. Although note that you can't really walk to the main campus from here (although they provide a guest shuttle option). Check in was quick and easy, and staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, comfortable, and was stocked with luxury amenities like Nest bath products and a stocked Keurig machinene. The Rizzo Center also had a full-sized gym, complete with two stationary bikes, a rowing machine, a peloton, a cable machine, a couple of treadmills and machines, and full dumbbell sets. They also provided a guest pantry, which was open 24/7, and stocked with ice cream, soda, coffee and tea. They also had several laundry machines on each floor, free for guests to use. The complimentary breakfast on the first floor was great, and included oats, grits, fruits, yogurt, pastries and hot foods (frittata, scrambled eggs, french toast, sausage/bacon, etc.). Definitely recommend staying here when visiting the RTP area. read more

Updated Review: I'm raising my 2-star rating to 4 stars because the property's Director of Operations reached out to me personally with a thoughtful and genuinely accountable response. He acknowledged the issue without defensiveness, apologized for how the phone interaction was handled, and demonstrated professionalism and care. My original concern was with one specific phone interaction, followed by the surface-level response I received from the hotel manager. Both were disappointing experiences. But based on the way the Director responded, I would still recommend the Rizzo Center and feel confident that senior leadership takes guest experience seriously. I'm leaving my original review up for transparency, and in case this type of phone interaction is part of a pattern I'm not aware of. But senior leadership handled the situation exceptionally well, and that deserves to be shared here. read more

The Rizzo Center is a nice conference center and hotel tucked away on the far east side of Chapel Hill. It's in the Meadowmont neighborhood, just off 54 (not far from I-40 exit 273), and is home to the historic DuBose Home. My wife and I attended an event for UNC Ophthalmology inside the hotel's restaurant, Meadowmont Grill. We had a great time. The Rizzo Center is owned by the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. It's home to the school's Executive Development programs. A sign outside the hotel said the hotel was managed by Hyatt. The hotel feels boutique and the overall grounds are a combination of historic and modern. The elevated wooded setting is quiet and serene. The property looked well-kept and sophisticated, but a step below luxury/high-end. My wife described it as, "restrained elegance, not opulent." The DuBose home is picturesque. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. The outside of the home is accessible to the public. You can drive right up to it and check it out. We've visited the property on a couple different days and both days, there was plentiful free parking in the lot marked for event parking. If you like pictures like me, it's a good spot to snap a shot or two. The event we attended inside the Meadowmont Grill had, I guesstimate, 50 guests or so. It was a dinner with a simple bar (no mixed drinks), passed hors d'oeuvres, and a self-serve buffet dinner. All staffed by Rizzo Center employees. Our dinner menu was as follows: -Dinner- * Roasted Butternut Squash Bisque * Steak Au Poivre with Sauce Robert * Wild Mushroom & Sundried Tomato Risotto * Herb-Crusted & Pan-Seared Grouper & Mahi-Mahi with Beurre Blanc * Haricot Vert with Caramelized Pearl Onions & Mushrooms * Roasted Turkey with Pineapple Chutney * Spinach Salad Tossed with Gorgonzola Cheese, Toasted Pecans, Mandarin Oranges, and Grape Tomatoes with Honey Cider Vinaigrette * Blistered Tomatoes -Dessert- * Gateau a L'Orange * French Chocolate Torte * Fruit (honeydew and other fruit, IIRC) In addition to the spinach salad, there was another salad option. It was more of a standard garden salad, but it was good. In general, I thought all of the food was fresh and delicious. There wasn't anything I didn't like. My wife liked everything too. I guess an accurate description would be it was decent conference center buffet food and probably above average at that. Even though the steak was well done, it was tender, which was surprising. Service was good. The staff was efficient and on top of things. The dining room had AV hookups for a microphone and PowerPoint presentation. The audio and video quality was good. The Paul Rizzo Conference Center at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is also an excellent hotel. You might not even know that this is a hotel, as to check through a low-key entrance to McClean Hall. Once inside, though, you will find top-quality rooms and suites, well designed and packed with designer touches, friendly and competent employees and a gorgeous outdoor enclosed courtyard with a large swimming pool. It is run as a Hyatt Destination property. We recently stayed for three nights on two different occasions. Each time, we enjoyed our visit, which includes a delicious complimentary breakfast, and got very affordable rates through Priceline. Although the Rizzo Center is on the UNC campus, it is not in the main campus area. Instead, it's on a 28-acre wooded area near upscale residential sections. If you are looking for campus accommodations near the original UNC campus and Franklin Street you would probably be better off staying at The Carolina Inn, which is also top-notch. About the only complaint we had was that rooms don't have microwaves, though they do have fridges. read more

I stayed at the rizzo center about 2 and a half weeks a go when I decided to visit Raleigh, NC. I looked up a lot of hotels in Raleigh but this one in chapel hill caught my eyes. It looked very clean from the pictures and the reviews I read were great. When I arrived, I had to ask someone where the building is but after that everything was good. This place is the nicest place I have ever stayed. It was very clean and honestly beyond my expectations. The free snacks 24/7 was great especially when I didn't feel like going out to get food. Breakfast wasn't bad, a lot of variety, I enjoyed the fruits the most because I felt like the food was a little bit cold, maybe I should have went early..idk. I could go on and on about the great things about this place but if you are wondering why I have 4 stars instead of a 5, on my 2nd day or so, I called to get some clean towels, a bed change and other small things. Most hotels I have stayed at, house keeping comes and knock to see if you need need something. They said they didn't do that there and you call when you need something or something done. Well, I called twice and nobody ever came. That kinda annoyed me but it was okay. I still enjoyed my stay and I would recommend it. NOTE: This is a delayed review. I stayed at this establishment August 12th-15th, 2021 and I did not realize the review remained in my drafts. I booked this room on Priceline via the Express Deals feature. My daughter was moving to her dorm so I wanted to be as close as possible. I was thrilled to find something so close to UNC's campus and the hotel itself had great reviews and a great room layout. I had booked a separate room for my Mom who arrived before us and her checkin process was seamless. She absolutely enjoyed her stay. Upon arrival finding the checkin area was a little confusing but we quickly figured it out...no big deal. When we finally checked in we noticed there was a a very strong sour smell in the room. I called the front desk and I was told they'd send someone to look into it. Maintenance came and placed huge fans in the room. Apparently there was something leaking into the carpet causing a sour smell. The fans didn't remedy the smell, it amplified it. I called back to the front desk again and I was told I could be switched but there were no more double rooms. I agreed...at this point the smell was unbearable. When I went to the front desk to get a new key the gentleman was rude. In so many words he told me that I booked the room at a deep discount on Priceline so I should be grateful I'm in their hotel. I was already stressed because I was moving my kid into her dorm, I was tired from traveling, and dealing with the emotions of my kid moving away...I replied to him as humbly as I knew how because I just wanted to sleep at this point. He calmed down and expressed his mother was doing the same with his sibling, so you'd think he would've showed a little grace but not so much. So overall I made the best out of a crummy situation. This hotel is in a great location, the restaurant and bar is decent, the remaining staff was great, but the smelly room, and rude front desk attendant really put a damper on my experience. I have revisited Chapel Hill many times following this experience and I dare not stay here again. read more

I lived in CH before Meadowmont was even there, and have been to Meadowmont a thousand times since it was built, and I had no idea this place was there. I mention this because it's so beautifully incorporated into the area you'd never know a 183-room hotel and business center were there. Absolutely wonderful place to stay. We stayed overnight at the Rizzo for our 21st wedding anniversary - when the front desk employees doing out it was our anniversary, they bumped us to an amazing suite with a balcony and two huge rooms! So thoughtful and very much appreciated. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, driving is in a little surreal, as the Rizzo is literally within a residential neighborhood. The parking is easy to find, we parked in covered underground parking. The facilities are spotless and very modern. The decor is very classy. Our suite was perfect - featured a small "kitchen" with sink and mini fridge. The balcony was huge and had seating and ceiling fans. The living area was gorgeous and the bedroom and bath were so well decorated - just a lovely room. We went down to the pool and found we were the only guests there! Enjoyed the salt water pool for a few hours, wrapped up in the huge towels by the pool when we left. A wonderful feature of Rizzo is that each floor has a stocked kitchen, featuring coffee, tea, popcorn, soda and a fully stocked freezer full of ice cream! We snacked on some treats. We did not eat dinner on the premises but did enjoy a wonderful breakfast Sunday morning - eating area was just as gorgeous as rest of hotel. The breakfast buffet was very good and had a great variety of foods. I highly recommend Rizzo for a getaway, not far from home for us WF residents. A 45 minute drive felt a world away. Five star experience for a four star hotel. A hurricane left most hotels sold out, but I snagged a room here after booking a Hotwire hot rate hotel. This property was never known to me, and never showed up in hotel aggregate websites. The check in was hard to find in the dark, but a phone call helped me find the proper area. Service was friendly and fast. Rooms were clean, looked to be recently renovated, and roomy. The bed and bedding were very comfortable. Free beverages and snacks are located on each floor and are free. Laundry is also free. read more

If I could give more stars I would. My husband and I found this place a few years ago and every chance we get to have a getaway, this is where we come. Great pool and outside area to relax, wonderful hot fresh breakfast, and very large gym area. Not to mention everyone that works there is so nice and helpful!!! Seems like they are all very happy to be there and enjoy their jobs. And the most important part (for me) is the cleanliness of the entire facility. From the outside to in, it is so clean and well kept. We love this hotel and not only have been multiple times, but will return any chance we can get!! From the outside, Rizzo Center doesn't quite look like a hotel, so it was a small challenge to find when we arrived that evening. Once we drove around back and saw the pool and parking deck, we knew we were in the right place. I was able to check in on the Hyatt app, so front desk time was basically being handed keys and reviewing useful information. Our room was standard king room. There was plenty of room to spread out & relax. Everything was exceptionally clean and in good repair. Rizzo provided a full breakfast, which exceeded our expectations during Covid. This place fails in every way and based on many other reviews, the management could not be less inclined to attend to these matters. Here's my list of unfathomable shortcomings: The person at the front desk did not have much knowledge of the hotel. He got the location of the ice machine/pantry items wrong. Have you ever seen a bathroom with zero towel racks? That's right. Another party in my group mentioned that as well so it seems to be the way this hotel operates.. Where is the logic? Hooks at the top of the shower curtain could possibly be for draping (not hanging) wet towels . . . if one is 6 feet tall. I would have needed a step-ladder. Actually, I am still not convincled that was their purpose--there were only two of them. Speaking of height, there is a safe above the microwave. One must be approximately 5'6" to be able to reach it. The instructions for use tilt upward so a guest must reach to pull it down in order to read it. The refrigerator is not cold. The room was freezing. I immediately turned the heat on, which posed a problem because the numbers are tiny and located on top of the unit, so I could not see them. I detected no sound in the room to indicate any change had taken place. Water was cold and no amount of running time changed that fact. I had no time to take any of this up with the front desk; I had to go. When I returned, the guy at the front desk was ready to leave. The lights were dimmed and I saw no one to take his place. Later, I got ice and discovered that the key card did not work. I caught the guy just before he left and handed it to him. He told me, "Yeh, that happens." Hmm, what would I have done had he left? The franchise that owns the Rizzo Center in Chapel Hill, NC should be sentenced to stay there for a week. Maybe then they would fix these issues. You know, the ones that others have complained about but to no avail. I recommend that anyone thinking of staying here bail before putting yourself the aggravation. My room was not clean. A towel lay on the floor under the sink. If I could see it, housekeeping should have seen it. read more

I worked at the Carolina Inn during my college years and learned about the Rizzo Center then. Owned by UNC and operated by the same company that manages the Carolina Inn, the Rizzo Center is a tranquil meeting venue off the beaten path. Located up the hill from Meadowmont in Chapel Hill, you will first pas the Dubose Home. This is a very stately and beautiful Georgian revival home that is used for dining events and is a perfect space for corporate dinners or special events. The home sits alone on the hill and the rest of the Rizzo Center is to the left. The area is situated on acres of land and you feel removed Chapel Hill yet can walk to Meadowmont shopping are in just a few minutes. The Rizzo Center is a hotel and meeting venue in one with meeting space, a pool, pantry and many amenities. Since you are in Tarheel territory, you will have to get used to the Carolina blue walls and Tarheel memorabilia too. The rooms are newly renovated with plush beds, very nice hardwood and carpeted floors, modern showers and full size toiletries. My favorite part was the pantry on each floor that is loaded with coffee, soft drinks, popcorn and mini ben and jerry ice cream cups. When you stay at the Rizzo center, breakfast is also included and we had a very delicious buffet breakfast on the bottom floor past the bar area. There is also a shuttle offered withina 5 mile radius. They have walking and running maps and the staff was very helpful. Knowing where to park was the only confusing part because it is hard to tell what the exact entrance is. I really enjoyed my stay and will be back. read more

This was such a great find! We had tickets to see Carolina v. Duke and stumbled across the Rizzo Center while looking for places to stay. The hotel is located on the campus by the business school (so not technically in the heart of campus, but on the campus nonetheless). It's adjacent to the beautiful DuBose home. TL;DR: new, snacks on each floor, beautiful area, comfortable bed; great food and drinks. The one negative aspect to this hotel is that it's huge and only has 3 levels for rooms. Because of that layout, you're turning corners every which way. It looks us a few wrong turns before figuring out the layout so it can be done! The rooms have beautiful bathrooms and use barn doors which is nice. They also use Nest products which I really liked. Everything is "smart" so you must leave a room key in the slot by the door to keep the lights on. Keep that in mind! The bed was comfortable, but the pillows weren't the best. I still slept soundly though. We kept hearing a "popping" noise randomly throughout the night but could never figure out where it came from. Each floor has a stocked fridge & freezer with drinks, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Klondike bars, and popcorn. There's also a washer and dryer. The bar in the hotel was great, too. Food, drinks, atmosphere were all 100%! They do have a shuttle service, but it did not take us to the game. We drove across the highway and parked in the Friendly (?) lot and took the shuttle to and from for $5. Totally worth it! One negative is that we accidentally left my iPhone charger behind and immediately called. They said that if it turned up in lost and found they would let me know. I thought that was kind of lame seeing as I know exactly where it was, but I guess nowadays everyone can use an iPhone charger... read more

We had to go to Duke for medical appointments, and this is where we chose to stay. They allowed us to come in earlier so we had a some time to breathe before the appointments after our 5 hour dive. Our thermostat was broke, and they not only fixed it quickly while we were gone, but they asked our comfort level so they could set it and our room would be enjoyable to walk into. They have snacks and drinks complimentary for their customers. We travel A LOT, and EVERY hotel has allowed covid be the excuse to keep prices the same, but breakfast options to be a piece of fruit and a drink. Here they have their hot buffet breakfast, but due to covid, you can't serve yourself. They have to do it. You know what, I'll take that. I was so happy to feel like a hotel really cares about the paying customers, and not just about getting paid. The hotel is older, you can some what see that, but what you see most is how hard they try to keep it super clean, friendly, and enjoyable. We have more appointments that way, and I WILL stay here EVERY TIME! Thank you for the best experience I've had in a hotel in over a year, you're doing it right! read more

A very decent mid/budget tier hotel! The property is very well taken care of, as evidenced by its well-trained and attentive staff and its clean environment. The rooms, while not modern, are well equipped and appointed to satisfy a comfortable and pleasant stay. Even in a bedroom literally throwing distance from the front desk there is no disruptive noise. The room feels fresh and clean, the bed is very comfortable, the a/c is powerful, the water pressure is strong, the bedside tables have power outlets, I could go on but essentially nothing is amiss. Again, not luxury, but well maintained and run professionally amidst beautiful grounds and friendly people. Staying here again if visiting the area would be an easy and obvious decision. read more

Beautiful grounds, upscale ornate furnishings, plush beds, an Exquisite breakfast, and even a stocked pantry that offers snacks and other amenities whenever. This place has really changed my perspective for staying in the Raleigh area. Honestly, unless it's really out of the way, I will probably take any opportunity to stay here in the future. First off, it really is hard to get past how nice it feels to drive up into this place. It's like coming out of the city and into a proper estate. There are plenty of other buildings there for the MBA program nearby as well as meeting areas, but they are all congruous with the feeling of the hotel. It makes for an overall quiet grounds that you wouldn't be able to get in most anywhere else. I guess the one negative thing you could say about that is that there are some extra offices and general meeting spaces you have to walk past. If that sort of thing bothers you. The actual typical hotel room amenities are top-notch. Staff is friendly and helpful. The actual Building looks beautiful, and the rooms are spacious, well equipped, and comfortable. The fitness center is very nice and large with plenty of options, as well as showers located there and towels, water and other amenities. The lap pool is a nice touch being situated in the courtyard making it all the more tranquil. There's even a nice place to do laundry with complimentary machines and soap, which makes it a great place for an extended stay for business. And of course the main thing that just puts this place over the top is the food. By far one of the better Hotel breakfast I've ever had. It functions in a typical buffet-style, though you still have wait staff that bring over coffee and drinks, as well as take your plates as you finish. They wait on you in what you would think of as a proper way for an estate like this. But the food itself at the buffet is also delicious with high-quality choices for whichever kind of balance you want. And I mentioned about the Pantry space, which allows you to go and have a nice snack whenever. They offer basic things like coffee, tea packages, but they also add some stuff like sodas, ice cream, and popcorn available. There are multiple pantries and each one has a little Lounge area near it that you can eat if you prefer to not go back to your room or go sit on one of the many balconies. To top it off, the restaurant open in the evenings is actually quite delicious and has a very well-stocked bar. read more

Beautiful facility with ample meeting rooms that are equipped with modern technology and comfortable leather chairs. The hotel rooms are equally comfortable, spacious, and equipped for business travelers (minus the room thermostats that have minds of their own). The only advice I have for finding the place is to look for a large, brick sign/curved stack to the left of a driveway that stems right from Meadowment Rd. The brick sign will read "Paul J Rizzo Conference Center" in huge gold letters. If you look for the DuBose Ln sign, you will surely miss the drive as the sign is hard to find and read in the dark. If you enter a 25 MPH 2-lane drive area, you have gone too far. The parking lot is fairly removed from the hotel, and it will be on your right as you enter DuBose Ln. To boot, the lighting is pretty sketchy around the lot and to the hotel as well. It only takes 3 minutes to get to the hotel by foot, but they also offer a golf cart shuttle if you ask/call. The Rizzo saved us from a terrible and torturous stay at another local hotel (Aloft; DON'T do it). The grounds at The Rizzo Center are beautiful and very appropriate for a Carolina holiday; immaculate landscaping and impressive old trees. Customer service is supreme, yet not over-the-top and suffocating; just perfect! Rooms are lovely with windows that open(!!!). The complimentary breakfast was delightful with waitstaff kindly serving coffee and juice. I can't begin to describe how relieved we were to land at The Rizzo Center after a sleepless night elsewhere... this is where we found our peace, comfort and relaxation. Highly recommend! I attended a training here and the facilities are extremely nice. The meeting rooms were comfortable with adequate lighting and space. I will echo many of the other reviews, but the Rizzo Center is a gem. I attended a work retreat here that was originally scheduled in February, but was pushed to May due to weather, and the staff was so flexible and accommodating to our group to get the event back on the books. The grounds are beautiful to wander through, and the conference rooms themselves are well-appointed. I echo the sentiments of the cleanliness. I mean, the bathrooms are stocked with mini mouthwash bottles as well as not one, but two types of paper towels to dry your hands on. Super classy, Rizzo. Let's talk about the food. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all served in the DuBose House. All the meals were delicious, ample portions, and great variety. The chef was incredibly sensitive and accommodating to those of my coworkers with food allergies. My only very minor complaint was that my room was slightly dated, and the carpet needed to be replaced. Minor cosmetics though, folks. These non-issues are easily made up by the free-for-all guest pantry stocked with drinks and snacks. Yes, there is free Ben and Jerry's for all. I was also particularly impressed with the gym and the variety of equipment available. read more
