2.5 stars I was looking for something a little cheaper than JB Duke for a one night stay. The reviews were promising (I thought I saw one or two reviews that stated parking was free or available on the street by the hotel). I booked the morning of my stay for a little over $142 (whereas JB Duke was $191 + free validated parking). I arrived around 5:30pm and parked in the retail shops parking just for my check-in and figured I'd either get free parking in AC's garage or find street parking later (was just dropping off my bag). As my check-in process was almost complete the staff member asked if I had a vehicle - I confirmed and she pulled out a card and asked that I place it in my dash, told me where the elevators were and wished me on my way. I read over the card while in the elevator and see that it's $20 per night for garage parking. I guess no biggie because even with a parking charge, the stay was still cheaper than JB Duke. The room was nice and clean and I was facing the street on the second floor (room 204). When I arrived back later that evening around 8pm I was able to find a parking spot quickly on the basement floor of the garage and entered the elevators to go to the 2nd floor. I checked out the gym as it was on my floor (ellipticals, pelotons maybe?, treadmills, rowing machine and free weights) - decent for a quick workout. I turned in for the night around 8:45 and the linens looked clean but didn't smell "fresh" and then noticed I could hear the dreaded stomping above me... and then I could hear the man next door hacking/clearing his throat. The man eventually stopped but the stomping basketball dribbling seemed to go on until 10:30pm. I did not get a good night's sleep due to the "thin" ceiling and I was awakened by the street sounds the next morning). 2.5 stars for price and convenience to Duke. Will pay more next time to stay at the other place down the street. read more

Great location in Durham. Right next to a cute little strip mall featuring all sorts of tasty restaurants and close to apartment buildings and the Duke University campus and medical center. Reception employees were very friendly and accommodating. A nice bar area to get a cocktail, plus a spacious lobby featuring SBX coffee in the mornings was appreciated by this weary traveler. Clean and comfortable room with great smelling bath products. This will be my hotel of choice when visiting Durham in the future. read more

The hotel is notable for having a location just outside the university campus and hospital center. They do offer free parking and Duke is extremely stingy about parking, so this is not an inconsiderable benefit. The room was on point for the brand with straightforward, black and suffered decor and a slightly confusing shower handle. I appreciated the filtered water station they had. I don't have much use for hotel bars and other than that there weren't any enormous amount of amenities. But it is a straightforward basic hotel that got the job done. read more

Enjoyed the hotel bar with a couple friends on Friday night. We came for a nightcap and had a good time. Standard selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. I just had a glass of bubbly. My friends got a rose and a cocktail. A little pricy but to be expected for a hotel. The bartender was friendly and engaged in conversation with us. Over charged for room. Charge occupancy and sales tax on pet fees. Asked for a special rate and was told they had a better rate. It was $70 higher than the rate I reserved the room for. Contacted hotel 4 times and was assured it would be taken care of right away. Even had the asst manager call assuring me he would take care of it and nothing! Have been working on this for 2 months. Even disputed the charges on my credit card but hotel said they were justified. I was a loyal Marriott Platinum Lifetime Elite member but will not stay here again! read more

I am officially an AC Hotel fan girl. We had the privilege of staying here for four nights during our move from Denver to NC and I can easily say it was the best part of our move so far. We were originally scheduled to stay at a Residence Inn, but with a sudden announcement of change of ownership, we changed our plans and I am so glad I did. It is in a prime area with great patio dining spaces, and tons of delivery options. Very central to the airport as well as downtown Chapel Hill and Durham! Bobby, Henry, and Brianna at the front desk were absolute gems. We have a rescue dog (Tinsley), and my biggest fear was traveling with her, but once we made it to the hotel she was treated like a celebrity and absolutely was living her best life! She loved getting treats from the front desk and was absolutely at ease at this truly pet friendly establishment. I have traveled a lot since COVID, and I can honestly say that AC hotels have reinstilled my faith in the hospitality industry. The staff, the cleanliness (Mmmm the smell!) and the overall feel, make me say "ahh, yes, I am at a HOTEL!" Everyone was incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming (affirming our choice to move here!). As someone who travels a lot for work personally, and does ADA consulting for national meetings, I pay a lot of attention to accessibility and the AC gets it right. My husband is a wheelchair user and for the first time in a long time, the two rooms we reserved met all of our needs. The bed, peephole, and thermostat were at a reasonable height and the bathroom was glorious. Plus THE SPACE! Sometimes ADA rooms claim to be, but are barely big enough for a mobility device. Our ADA room was about the same size as our first studio apartment, and to be honest, I will be a little sad to leave. We reserved two rooms, as my sister was traveling with us, and Bobby not only made sure we were near each other and close to the elevator, but literally next to each other which was a huge convenience. The ice machine, and hydration station were close by and easy to access, even as someone of short stature. Plus, an ADA section of the bar is ALWAYS a gem for me. We all know hotel bars are where the action is, and being able to safely participate, makes us feel like valued customers. We all had to work remotely while we were here and the wifi, and the common areas were flawless. There was no shortage of outlets, and we never lost connection while we were in meetings. I received multiple deliveries and everything went off without a hitch. The food was delicious, the breakfast was plentiful, and the Nespresso was an amazing touch, with a very kind staff person who helped everyone figure out how to create the perfect latte. I tend to be stingy with my five star reviews, but honestly. I am already trying to figure out ways to come back here. We love an AC moment. AC hotels are one of my fav, and I appreciate how consistent they are in the different cities and states I've visited. They always seem to located in or near a shopping center, and I love that, especially when I tend to book these hotels when I need rest more than anything. The other shops and retail stores in the area looked great, and I love the options. We went to get donuts, and there's space to walk your dog if you have one. Breakfast on the morning was just alright, I seem to remember a better breakfast. This just reminded me of the free continental breakfasts at cheaper hotels, not something I paid $16 for. The parking area has a fee per night, the spots are kind of tight, but it was nice to have a place to park my car safely. I wish I had more time to explore the area, but it was very nice. This was a great place to stop on my road trip, I felt safe in the hotel. Staff was friendly, and check in/out was a breeze. read more

Only decaf coffee provided in the rooms. Breakfast is an additional charge on top of what is already paid - the kitchen manager will watch you like a hawk. The food isn't anything special either. The TV worked and the big windows were nice. I told the front desk about the decaf coffee the next morning upon checkout and they were very dismissive of my concerns. Oh yeah, I also couldn't find the ice machine anywhere. There was a mention of a hydration station but it was not user friendly to find at all. read more

Beautiful hotel with amazing amenities and staff! Stayed here after ctaching a great deal on hotels.com and wanting to check out Durham. I arrived a little late on my check in date and it was no problem at all. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They told me that my breakfast would be included in my rate and to let the attendant know in the morning. The attendant was super friendly and understood that my breakfast was included. They had a nice spread of fresh meats, cheeses, fruit, Greek yogurt, multiple coffees, and breakfast sandwiches. The lobby was beautiful, so I took advantage of that and worked away while eating breakfast for a couple of hours and it was no problem at all. After breakfast I checked out their workout area that was super spacious and had a peloton! So, I took my first ride and it was amazing! The rooms are super open, comfortable, and the tvs have tons of channels. The bed does not make you want to move, so definitely build in some rest time! Overall the hotel was so amazing and easily accessible to Duke and downtown. Definitely a must go to while visiting Durham!!! read more

Beautifully modern hotel, and the staff I encountered (Brian, etc) were top notch. BUT ... My damn room (#518) was quivering!!! (And not in the good way) At first, I thought it was just me getting up there in years. But nope. As I looked at the lampshade on the desk, it was shaking. Then I looked at my little bottle of water and it had ripples in it ... like in Jurassic Park when the T-Rex is coming. I started in room 518. So to play it safe, they moved me to the 4th floor at the opposite end of the building ... right next to a room with a yapping dog ... and no human in the room to shut up the doggie. So they moved me back to the 5th floor, but room #524 this time. And guess what? I could still feel the quivering, but it was super subtle, so I took a big breath and unpacked. I was told that the hotel's laundry is directly below and the big industrial machines are what shakes the place. I was also told that guests have complained in the past, which begs the question ... why was I put in that room in the first place? Do they just keep their fingers crossed that people won't be in their rooms during the day? Shame on Marriott for putting their front desk employees in such an awkward situation ... and for the poor technical design of the hotel. I guess if you're gonna stay here, request something far away from the shaking laundry. read more

Super chic European Modern style with cool vibes. Somehow they've managed the modern simplistic design but still managed to make the hotel feel comfortable and inviting The rooms are huge and well outfitted with a great bench along one wall under the tv that makes a great space for your stuff. A built in desk with in room Keurig is greatly appreciated The bathroom is huge and incredibly well-lit with a LARGE shower enclosure and ample counter space. Hanging space is a little tight but if you remove the robes and ironing board, it's sufficient Shampoo, Conditioner & body wash are in the shower. Other nice amenities are on a rolling cart under the sink. Overall a really nice room, comfy bed and friendly staff Breakfast buffet is yummy and we'll supplied by the attendants. Lots of healthy (and good less healthy) choices and a Nespresso machine plus drip coffee. If you get the rate that includes breakfast, it's well worth it Would definitely stay here again without hesitation read more

Avoid at all costs. Horrible front desk staff and manager. I'm a platinum Bonvoy member and had over 60 Marriott nights last year and have been keeping up that level of Marriott stays for more than 20 years. Beyond other issues, the front desk staff overcharged me for an extra night (at double the first night's rate), even though I confirmed upon check-in that I was only staying one night. Despite two decades of loyalty, neither the manager nor Marriott Bonvoy would refund me the second night. I even sent them proof of my departure via an Uber receipt and plane ticket. They were very slow to respond, and totally unhelpful. They claimed that the person working the front desk "doesn't make those kind of mistakes," but if you read the reviews on Marriott.com for the hotel, it's rife with similiar complaints. Terrible manager, badly trained front desk staff. I also went down to the front desk to report that the room phone was not working (a safety issue), and no repairs were made. read more

Our experience at Ac hotels was phenomenal. We spent one night here and would stay here again in a heartbeat. This hotel is super trendy but still gives a chic boutique feel. My fiancé and I loved the ambiance and the modern look with the fire place between the hotel lobby and restaurant. The hotel snack bar was packed with everything you could ever think of including wine, candy, food, local treats and travel essentials. The conference rooms were spacious and the gym had a brand new peloton and weights! We loved hanging out in the bar area. We ordered off their small plates menu and got Caesar salad, meatballs, a meat and cheese platter, and the most delicious macarons you could find in the area. The drink menu had some great options as well. We had some tasty cocktails in addition to one of the best old fashions you could imagine. Breakfast was awesome as it was a European style buffet. You had everything here including sweet & savory quiche, fresh breads, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants, coffee, and more! We wish we could have this breakfast everyday. We stayed in a king room and truly felt like royalty. We loved how spacious the room was and how we could actually hang out & relax in our living space. The bathroom was probably one of my favorite parts as it was absolutely beautiful. Most importantly, the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. One of the best parts of our experience was coming to learn that the head staff took almost exclusive part in the design and decoration of the hotel. Knowing that you have staff that treat this as their own baby is very refreshing and not something you frequently find in the industry- especially with a large chain brand like a Marriott. We highly recommend that anyone visiting the RTP area make this their stay of choice time and time again. read more

For the price we paid, it was a big disappointment! No microwaves in the rooms, no breakfast included, the mini-fridge was barely functioning, no pool, and the parking lot was small and made it difficult to park larger vehicles. Even though the hotel is not very old, it showed signs of lack of repair. The towel caddy was damaged, the toilet seat was not secured, the blow dryer was caked with dust and hair, the handheld mirror was chipped, and there was a small rip in the wallpaper. On the positive side the overall appearance of the hotel was clean and quiet. read more

Unprofessional and Irresponsible Staff This is my second time staying at this hotel. I stayed here because I spent Thanksgiving at my sister's place nearby, and I booked this hotel through Agoda this time. I have used Agoda to book hotels many times in the US and Taiwan without any issues before. However, this time on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th 2024, when we checked in, we encountered a front desk attendant named M⋯ who seemed to be unfamiliar with handling guests who had booked through a third party. This resulted in us spending nearly two hours just to check in, ruining what should have been a nice Thanksgiving. Because we were late due to this, my sister's family was also upset. We felt unlucky to have encountered such unprofessional service from her. To make matters worse, this Ms. M charged us for the hotel room twice. When we realized this wrongful charge, I called the hotel, and coincidentally, she answered. She said she would inform the manager and asked me to wait for the manager's call. However, after a few days of not hearing from the manager, I called again. I thought the manager could help resolve the issue, but he said he needed to understand the situation before getting back to us. Unfortunately, we never received his call. I called the manager again, but he said they were about to go on holiday and might need more time to solve the problem. He asked me to call back on January 6th, which I did today. However, my three calls were not answered. As a customer, I am extremely disappointed by the unprofessional attitude towards guests at such a reputable hotel. We are loyal customers of Marriott and always stay at Marriott hotels when we travel. Today, I am writing this review with great disappointment. I believe this is the result of an individual's behavior and not reflective of Marriott as a whole. However, I hope that Marriott address the need for professional training for its employees and respond promptly to me to sincerely resolve this matter. read more

Arrived early morning at around 12:30AM after a long drive from New York and was hoping to just get some sleep. The front door was locked but had a bell to call the desk to open it. We pressed that bell maybe 10 times to no avail. I then started knocking on the door louder and louder. Then we had an idea to call the front desk. No answer the first one or two times. The second or third time, the wonderful assistant manager Bobby arrives to the rescue. Clearly upset with the amount of time we had to spend outside behind a locked door, we told Bobby we weren't thrilled about waiting outside for 15 minutes. His response as he laughed and shook his head at our faces: "you weren't out there for 15 minutes." Bobby claimed he saw us on the CCTV cameras as we arrived and knew we weren't there for 15 minutes. Anyone would logically ask, well if you saw us as soon as we got here, why didn't you open the door??? According to Bobby, he had other priorities; rather than serve his paying customers, he needed to "make copies" at 12:30 AM with an empty lobby. Perhaps this must be hospitality jargon for "sleeping." We said we did not feel safe waiting out there for that long at that hour and that he should've tended to us before making his "copies". He mocked us for feeling unsafe. Perhaps if this was such a safe area, the hotel wouldn't lock its doors! After we said we would be complaining, Bobby whipped out his intimidating "assistant general manager" card and insinuated nothing would happen if we complained. For paying over $200 a night and being a platinum member, Bobby's service was atrocious. If you plan on staying here, don't be surprised if Bobby is making copies instead of letting you into the hotel you paid for. read more

Worst customer service. Left on hold twice for 20 min by Kristen, in the 3rd attempt I was told to call back later that she was by herself checking in a sold out hotel and also picking up the phone. Had to call the company the soccer team used for reservations to add an adult to my reservation since my son would arrive before my husband. instead the very busy Kristen changed my reservation name and when my son got there he could not check in and had to sleep with another family. I was still charged for the night. They do not have managers in the weekend. When I finally spoke with Alexander the manager he told me he had listened/watched the videos and instead of apologizing for Kristen's behavior he stood up for her. At the end of the day the WOrST customer service I have ever experienced from staff (Kristen) and her manager Alexander. placed a claim with my cc comoany. read more

I need someone to Recognize the two girls who were working Friday afternoon. After I arrived into town, meeting family, and I had an infant with me I went to check into our original hotel which ended up being a dump and there was no way we were staying there. So in a panic I called this hotel because my friend was staying there and those two girls did what they could to accommodate not only a room for me and my family but for my sister and her family to. They were able to get us rooms for both Friday and Saturday night. I am truly grateful for them and also for the Marriott hotels because they are always up to our standards. Fantastic hotel bar! They do offer food however I solely came for drinks and live music! They have by far one of the best Old Fashions I have ever tasted and a small but nice wine selection. You do not have to be staying in the hotel to get drinks or food from the bar. But I can say they have f the hotel is any resemblance of their lobby I would stay here whenever I got the chance! The lobby is clean and upscale modern, the bartender was so nice and welcoming and so was the front desk staff. They definitely pay attention to detail. We frequently stay in the Raleigh-Durham area, and decided to try this hotel since it was located near a family member. First, the parking garage does not have sufficient spaces and they are small. The receptionist did say that we could park in the adjacent shopping center parking lot. I suggest parking on the lower level near the elevator to directly access room floors. Our room was an odd number room on the 2nd floor and next to loud outdoor AC units. Bar area did not have food service because the chef was out sick. Oddly, most of the shopping center restaurants were closed on the weekends. A couple were only open in the morning. The hotel was new and clean with faux wood flooring, but the noise from other rooms carried. We could hear a man upstairs talking loudly from 12 - 1:30 am. Water pressure in shower was low. If AC Hotels had paid more attention to sound proofing, we might have returned to a room away from the AC units. Hearing guest talking in other rooms is a deal breaker which will deter us from staying at any AC Hotels in the future. read more

The AC Durham by Marriott is a nice hotel. The rooms are modern and very clean. The cleaning staff is friendly and do a good job. The hotel is a perfect for grandparents and parents visiting kids in the nearby schools. However, parking is a bit problematic but not terrible. The gentleman manning the desk helped me unload my car; very nice man. The coffee is free and pretty good. They do have a breakfast buffet, but it is not worth $17 (it's limited, cold, and the food just sits and dries out). We tried but couldn't eat the food (we've had much better at less expensive hotels). There is a quick breakfast place 75 feet from the hotel entrance and the food is hot and good. I am not sure how ratings should work but having stayed at 5 star hotels that were horrible, maybe 4 stars is for excellent is ok at a normal hotel. I deducted a point for charging for such a poor breakfast while not being a discount hotel. read more

Let me preface by saying overall, our stay was pleasant. Nevertheless, there were some things that need a little work. First, when entering you are smacked in the face with what can only be a signature hotel fragrance, which was strong even through a double wall mask and filter. It was a nice enough smell, just a bit strong if you can smell it through that many layers. Second, I was greeted by maskless staff. I understand that people are tired of the pandemic, but as a mother of an unvaccinated 9 month old, it was an unwelcome sight. In our room, we had trouble getting the refrigerator to a cold enough temp to keep my breast milk chilled. As a breastfeeding mom on a trip, this is a crucial need. Minor upsets were that the shower wouldn't get really warm water and the bed was a bit firm. Amenities and furnishings were nice and the staff friendly, would just have felt safer and more cared for if they had been masked. It put us off asking for assistance with the fridge in the room or exploring the hotel. read more
