After checking online to ensure they took donations, I went to drop off some books to donate,…read morepreferring to support my local library over other options. I stood in line, patiently waiting while the person at the desk helped another customer. I also wanted to get a library card, having recently moved to the city. The person at the counter stopped helping the other customer to tersely inform me that returns go in the box outside and donations are not accepted, then handed me a paper of alternate donation sites and shoo me away. My partner asked if we could set the box down while we look around, as we had walked a block from where we parked, and the person behind the counter responded "I'm not going to fall for that. Please leave. Take the box outside." We left without argument. As a resident of Haverhill wanting to access the public library and attempting to donate books in good condition and with positive intent, I am appalled by the assumptions made about me and the way I was treated. Please update your website so others won't go to the library to donate and get treated the way we did.

I use the books on tape (to listen to in my car) as well as regular fiction and nonfiction. Everything here is cataloged online and they can order through interlibrary loan. I also like that I can renew my items online. Its all FREE since my tax dollars are hard at work. I love libraries.

There were these AMAZING 70's white molded plastic egg-shaped chairs in the children's room that I can not even begin to describe. Anyone have a photo? Epic... "Mork from Ork" (early Robin Williams!) is all I can think of-Amazing! In 1994, our family finally moved to Salem & Kelly Library became a more permanent part of my life. Outstanding things happened here & I have such fond memories of peering over to "SHS" wondering what life would be like there. I lived it. I made the trek from Kelly to Salem High more than a few hundred times. I sent my very first email from this library... which led to my first concert in Los Angeles, and ultimately led to me meeting my future husband in 1998. We've been married 18 years now! I recently revisited Kelley Library & it has only changed minutely. Beautiful. No more chocolate brown restrooms. Same "books for sale section", so nice! I can still see my dear father (who died 10/3/18 ) standing in the stairwell reading a western novel waiting for my mom, my sister & me. I miss the fabulous metal sculptures that adorned the front lawn. But...they probably were not safe for us to be climbing on anyhow. Somehow, we survived.

There is a reasonable selection of books, however evergreen or more current content could be improved (for example, books on technology that is now nearly obsolete). All libraries are a gift and wonderful resource, including this one. Simultaneously, the study rooms give institutional (prison, mostly) vibes, the chairs, assorted cushions, and potentially mold ridden carpet join in information-fuel, melodious anthem with themes of longing for revival, minimalism, and a spark of life. The significant audiobook and music collection on CDs inspires me to go purchase a new or used CD player! The bottom floor greeted me with a food smell I couldn't determine if it was hot dogs, lasagne or pizza, but it was someone's lunch time and not the smell I would expect in a library. A glance to the right up a dark corridor with low ceilings boasted a dehumidifier, a nod to the challenge it is to control environmental issues, nevermind keeping an environment suitable for books and developing lungs. The outdoor area is in fact amazing. Stepping outside my lungs filled with relief, confirming my suspicion about unavoidable mold/other allergen contamination that happens to most indoor environments over time. The air freshener placed over the vent at the entrance is a call for action if I ever saw one. Residents! Show up to the relevant upcoming meetings (no excuses, here's the calendar lol https://www.derrynh.org/calendar-by-event-type/16) and make your voice heard! Libraries are nearly always underfunded, and Derry's needs and environmental overhaul for health and safety of the workers and visitors.

The Librarians are Always most sweet and happily helpful in every way, no matter what the situation…read moreconsists of. Truly I was extremely upset about some legal papers that I was needing to have copied, and they made my copies themselves with heats of gold!! When I've taken my young granddaughters they have treated us as if we were family. My granddaughters become excited when I simply offer to drive them there. Very nice library located in downtown Andover. Clean and quiet so I like to come here to do school…read morework. There are plenty of computers available for use as well as tables and chairs on each floor. Great selection of books and other media. Staff members are friendly and helpful. If you have a library card, you can easily request items from anywhere in the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium. Only (minor) downside is with its location downtown, you may have to pay for parking if you park in the lot. It's 50 cents per hour until 6pm each day except Sundays and holidays. However there is plenty of free two-hour parking on the streets.
