This is a beautiful library! One of my favorites in the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium. Lots of seating space, plenty of computers available for use. Ample parking space the parking lot as well as some 1-2 hour spots on the street. I love the sculptures and water fountain in the center of the library by the staircase. I find the sound of the water very soothing. They have a very cute "Friend of the Library" gift shop which I have yet to check out. I fully intend to visit it next time I'm at the library when the shop is open. Since the other reviews are much older, it's worth mentioning that the library is currently open on Sundays from 1:00-5:00pm. read more

Very very helpful staff as I researched my one of founding fathers of Haverhill as an out of towners. Brendan at front desk and "Liz" in special collections especially helpful. Michael Gile, Dallas Texas read more

After checking online to ensure they took donations, I went to drop off some books to donate, preferring to support my local library over other options. I stood in line, patiently waiting while the person at the desk helped another customer. I also wanted to get a library card, having recently moved to the city. The person at the counter stopped helping the other customer to tersely inform me that returns go in the box outside and donations are not accepted, then handed me a paper of alternate donation sites and shoo me away. My partner asked if we could set the box down while we look around, as we had walked a block from where we parked, and the person behind the counter responded "I'm not going to fall for that. Please leave. Take the box outside." We left without argument. As a resident of Haverhill wanting to access the public library and attempting to donate books in good condition and with positive intent, I am appalled by the assumptions made about me and the way I was treated. Please update your website so others won't go to the library to donate and get treated the way we did. read more

LOUD. LOUD . LOUD. Unfortunately, I have to take exams on-line @ this Library. I feel that I am at a coffee shop, with all the laughter and LOUD voices that are coming from EMPLOYEES!! This is beyond frustrating, as I am trying to not only learn, but I'm also trying to achieve HIgh grades . Not an environment to study and focus. read more

We are really fortunate to have such a wonderful library in Haverhill! They have a great selection of books, CDs, audiobooks, and DVDs. I also appreciate the online catalog. I use it to browse media throughout the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium, place a hold on media (sometimes borrowed from other libraries in the Merrimack Valley), look at due dates, and renew as needed. The library itself is beautiful, and it has ample seating. They put on various events; information is available on the website. I appreciate that the library is often open until 9pm. I just wish they were open on Sundays but understand that everybody needs a day of rest. read more

I love this library. You don't realize how broad a selection of books, movies, and magazines they have until you visited other libraries. Again, very broad selection. I even found some of my college textbooks here (saved me tons of money!). A large selection of manga/graphic novels as well (selection expanded A LOT. It used to be a tiny cart, now it's 3+ bookcases). You can reserve and renew books online. You can also request books from any of the cities within the consortium. An employee will call or e-mail you when you book(s) are in. Lots of computers as well (limited to an hour or so each, many use the computers so there might be a short wait on a busy day). There's even a self-checkout, though i only recommend this if it's busy and you have 1-2 books (it makes noise and prints a receipt per book- slow process for a big checkout). Good selection of movies. Not too many brand new unless it's very popular, good selection of foreign movies as well. $1 per movie (VHS or DVD), educational ones on the Children's floor are free for 7 days. There are late fees ($2 a day, I believe). Sadly, the city cut-off the funding for the library. So reduced hours are due to financial reasons. Hours are on the site. read more

Definitely check out this Library! The staff are always willing to help and the process of checking out books is simple (once you learn the system). Also I always see signs up for different events taking place at the library. read more

I love this library! Mainly because it's close to home. I always order my books online so I don't have to hunt around for them when I get there. I get an email reminder when the books are ready to be picked up. I can just go to the front desk and ask for the books I ordered online. They also have a very nice DVD section. You can rent DVD movies for one week at a $1 a movie. If you forget to return the movie on time they will charge double the fee. The downside are the library hours. Few days a week the library closes at 5pm and isn't open on Sunday. read more

This library has a great selection. Many of the books that I order online are on the shelf, no need for transit from another library. I like to use the inter-library loan. It's so easy to pick my books up here from the self-service shelves, I look up my last name, check myself out and go home and read. The staff are all polite and friendly. The only down-side is that the children's room is not very fun and the hours are inconvenient, but I suppose they are doing their best with the budget they have. read more

Our family's favorite place. We visit the library very often. My step son goes there daily after school to catch up on homework, and then play video games. Since we do not have cable or internet at home. Where else can you RENT movies for FREE! They have quite the selection. I am very honored and grateful to have such a nice place in town. Thank you! read more

I absolutely love the Haverhill Public Library. I always enjoyed going to the library growing up. Now as an adult I continue to be amazed at what a wonderful resource we have right in our city. All the staff are so helpful and patient! I often go to browse the books to see what might catch my eye and I often overhear staff patiently answering all sorts of questions, some related and some not related. What I notice is that they are all so patient and kind to people. It really says "welcome" to me! I think the library is an amazing resource. I enjoy taking out all sorts of hardcover books and books on CD to listen to in the car during my commute to work. I love that you can renew and reserve books on line. The magazine section is terrific too. I have also attended a couple of the free community lectures they have hosted, on running your own business to hypnotism and relaxation. As you can see, I truly support the library. I enjoy it so much I plan to submit my application to volunteer as a way of giving back to this terrific resource. I also have donated many books and magazines as a way of "paying it forward." I have purchased books for $1 and $2, read them and then donated them. My hope is that the Haverhill Library will continue to be a thriving resource in the city of Haverhill. The only one downside is that the library is not very handicapped accessible. Yes, they do have a ramp and an elevator, but it is a little tricky to navigate for people with canes that may be unsteady. Unfortunately some family members who live in Haverill have had to change to the Plaistow Library for easier access. read more
