I like to play football on the field. I haven't really rented many books but I like the field a lot.

I ADORE this library...but I am severely biased. Grew up in MA but visited this library weekly with…read moremy parents (who loved to read). There were these AMAZING 70's white molded plastic egg-shaped chairs in the children's room that I can not even begin to describe. Anyone have a photo? Epic... "Mork from Ork" (early Robin Williams!) is all I can think of-Amazing! In 1994, our family finally moved to Salem & Kelly Library became a more permanent part of my life. Outstanding things happened here & I have such fond memories of peering over to "SHS" wondering what life would be like there. I lived it. I made the trek from Kelly to Salem High more than a few hundred times. I sent my very first email from this library... which led to my first concert in Los Angeles, and ultimately led to me meeting my future husband in 1998. We've been married 18 years now! I recently revisited Kelley Library & it has only changed minutely. Beautiful. No more chocolate brown restrooms. Same "books for sale section", so nice! I can still see my dear father (who died 10/3/18 ) standing in the stairwell reading a western novel waiting for my mom, my sister & me. I miss the fabulous metal sculptures that adorned the front lawn. But...they probably were not safe for us to be climbing on anyhow. Somehow, we survived.

The ladies working in there seem very nice but, and I am going to be brutally honest here, this…read moremight be the ugliest and most depressing library I've ever visited. There is basically one floor, a giant open layout with no privacy anywhere, really. To be fair, I did not browse their collection, as that was not my purpose in going there. If you're looking for a place to study though, just drive up to Nevins Library in Methuen. There are nooks and cubicles everywhere in there, and it's very well-lit. By the way, I saw another reviewer claim that this is probably the nicest library in NH. Preposterous! Although it is no doubt a daytime refuge for homeless drug addicts now, the historic library in Manchester NH puts this library to shame!

I spent about two hours here, quietly working away on my laptop and enjoying the mostly peaceful…read moreenvironment of the library. With noise cancelling headphones, it was very quiet and a great place to get some laptop done and perhaps even write a few Yelp reviews. A beautiful building, especially the central rotunda. Many stacks of books, organized as they are in a library and a big display of periodicals. Several workstations available. I did not happen to see easily accessible power outlets near the tables. As it's the middle of a very cold winter, quite a few people in here to get warm and stay warm. There is metered street parking nearby. [Review 10485 overall, 252 of 2019.]

I had a very similar experience as "kassandra" from another review. Ive been to MANY libraries in…read moremy life, and this place, hands down, is the worst experience Ive ever had at a library. Those who work there arent exactly the most welcoming. I came to the location to do some research and spend the day at what I heard was a nice place. There was only one working toilet in the entire library for the public - which became quite awkward when I walked in on a VERY drugged up homeless woman who didnt lock the door. "Security" had a huge issue with where people sit at the desks and usage of the power strips for anything other than laptops (cell phone?! Ooh too bad, nope! Cant have that!), despite there being almost no one around in the first place other than a GIGANTIC homeless population inhabiting the fiction, teen department, and computer stations. Dont get me wrong- Im not naive to the idea that homeless people spend a lot of time at libraries and need somewhere to go. Ive spent a LOT of time at many different libraries in my life, so none of that shocks me too much. But it blew my mind my charging my phone at a charging station was much more offensive than the multiple homeless men sitting on the reading benches in the teen and fiction dept purposely watching women's asses as theyd try to browse books. Just not a welcoming, safe feeling place. Will never return. Just go to barnes and noble, they dont yell at you if you need somewhere to charge your own equipment. It smells much nicer, is much cleaner and likely 10x more safe.

Once you get past those gates you really get to take the whole castle in and it's beautiful. This place was such a great backdrop for pictures that the wedding didn't really need much decorating. I also loved that the wedding guests were allowed to roam the castle and take pictures inside. This place really gave that elegant and vintage look that the bride was looking for. The person in charge of the castle was so friendly and kept walking around making sure everyone was comfortable and all their needs were being met. This place is a gem hidden among the trees and is truly a beautiful location for a wedding.

Not only that, but the entire staff was amazing from start to finish. They were all super accommodating and moved with a purpose, they all worked so seamlessly together. I had an accident with my foot right in the middle of cocktail hour, where I was sure I was going to have to go to the hospital, and the party would have to go on without the bride and groom. The entire staff acted immediately with first aid, getting medical attention, and even set up a hidden stool with ice under my table to elevate my foot. They all made sure I was taken care of and went above and beyond our expectations. I can't say enough about the staff and how incredible my experience was with them all. They have an onsite catering company, and the food was so delicious! On top of all that, A BEAUTIFUL venue for a romantic, memorable, fairy tale wedding. The scenery is picture perfect, and our photos turned out phenomenally! A beautiful venue inside and outside, every inch of the castle is breathtaking. My husband and I feel so lucky to have gotten married here. If you are looking for a perfect venue for a wedding your guests will NEVER forget, book your wedding at Searles Castle!
