We came here for my daughters friends birthday. Really fun place to host a party for adults and kids. Well organized, friendly staff and tons of cool projects at great price points for all. Will definitely return for a girls night out.

My friend and I were there last night and we have no complaints. However, we did notice a group of girls that were having a few issues with their projects. I believe the worker was getting overwhelmed with those issues but it wasn't the girls faults. We noticed she was frustrated and actually made us feel uncomfortable to even ask for any help. Still my friend and I had a great time and loved our projects. Reasonable pricing.

Made my reservation online a few days ahead. Arrived and was pleasantly greeted by Jill. The space was clean, organized and welcoming. Felt appreciated and safe. Loved being able to stain and paint my wood planter for my front door. Can't wait to return!

Ceramics, Wood, and Candle craft projects are available. She answered all my questions and was super helpful with colors. You pick a project and complete it there. You can also order a project in advance online.

H&SsoCal is freaking awesome. They were on time, had the tables set up with all of our supplies. They explained each step and helped us along the way. If we had a question they were on it! Afterwards, they cleaned up, they even brought they're own trash bags! These ladies freaking rock! I can't wait to do another project with them. I absolutely love my flower box!

Ask the Community - Hammer and Stain-SoCal

Do you do any other wood project classes?

Hi! We are primarily a wood studio but also do many other things! You can see our project samples on my website under the “project gallery” button directly under the calendar. If you are looking for something specific please feel free to call me… Read more

Are the classes strictly painting/staining pre-cut wood pieces or is there whittling/carpentry involved?

Hi! All the wood is precut and sanded, ready to be painted/stained. We make it as easy as possible so you can enjoy and not stress 😄

Do they do open paint?

Hi! Yes we do have open paint. You can pre-order on our website under the ‘pre-order for open paint’ button and you will be able to choose which day you want to come in. You can also just walk in without reservations on open paint days if you don’t… Read more

The four stars is because we were there on a cold morning, and as there was no heat, it was, well, cold in there! I understand the insane cost of heating places but it was distracting at times. The studio itself also doesn't have a bathroom. We were all waiting in line outside of the one-person-at-a-time outdoor access bathroom on the first floor of the building, which was a tad inconvenient. We were a small group and I can't imagine a bigger group, especially a sip and paint group, waiting to use that one restroom on a weekday when the other businesses in the building are open! Paint 'n party also does some events at restaurants, and I think that alone would make this a 5-star review for heat and convenient bathrooms. We did have a great time despite this!

There were other parents all over the place and she couldn't even see because parents blocked her way. Apparently the person in charge didn't even care that there were kids who couldn't see. She said that all the other kids got black paint for the outline, and she did not. Also, why did I pay and register ahead of time if there were not enough canvas? Everyone else in the room got thick canvas, while my daughter got a thin cheap canvas that I could have purchased from the dollar store because "they didn't have enough." Never will I do this again. Save your money and go to Purple Easel, at least they know what they're doing.

Their prices were very reasonable and they were very accommodating to our requests such as allowing our dogs in the studio while we paint. We communicated beforehand to organize the private event to make sure the date/time slot was open, security deposit was met, payment was collected fairly, and we agreed upon an example painting that I found online. They pre-sketched a generic version of our dog beforehand with the set up of supplies and they instruct and guide us through the painting process. They demonstrate and show us what colors to use. They basically guided us through how to get the basic foundation of our painting and then we have the chance to personalized and add more to our liking. Everyone painted the same concept of painting but all of the paintings turned out differently so that was neat! They come around and help you with your painting if you have any questions. They also kindly refill any paint colors you need more of as many times as you need. They also offered a complimentary glass of wine (rosé) to everyone as well. Everything was very chill and relaxed. It's an intimate setting with a capacity of 14 people. One guy instructed the painting process while the other guy served our wine and gave us some facts about Pomona. They were both very friendly! I think this is a good opportunity for people who have never painted to try things out and also a nice opportunity for more experienced painters to just play around. It's also a cool thing to do to hang out and be creative! Our time slot was from 10am-12:30pm but we ended up starting about 20 minutes late because they were still setting the supplies up and some people were running late and we finished around 1:40pm but they didn't even rush us to leave! They also cleaned everything up for us when we were done. My friend and I accidentally broke one of their wine glasses and they also didn't mind! Sorry and thank you for the hospitality! I'm actually going to cohost another event with them again in May cause I had so much fun! Free parking is available behind the building, on the street, or by the train tracks across the street.

We scrambled for a last-minute change of plans, and it turned out to be absolutely perfect. They were incredibly accommodating: we hosted the birthday party right in the studio, decorated the space, brought our own food and non-alcoholic drinks, and set up a special designated area for the birthday girl and her friends. Laura and Bob were beyond patient and so helpful with the kids, guiding them every step of the way to make sure everything came out just right. The selection of pottery pieces is huge (overwhelming in the best way) and they even surprised us with a complimentary plate featuring all her friends' little fingerprints. What a thoughtful touch! It was such a fun, creative day, and everyone stayed nice and dry. Highly recommend for families, especially when plans go sideways.
