Minion Madness Event on January 31st: Attended the Minion Madness event with instructor, Doug. We had so much fun! Doug gave us all simple instructions throughout the process and made the experience a relaxing and enjoyable one. Doug, is truly amazing We definitely plan to come back to future events especially the family events.

This art studio is fabulous! Had a small gathering with a few friend and Douglas made sure we had a great time! He guided us through a 3D art session and we had a wonderful time. Be provides guidance but also lots of creative freedom. Would definitely recommend this studio for a private event!

I can't believe I'm the first to review! The pressure! :)…read more I can't say enough good things about this place...the staff and the quality of classes they offer. I first signed up my daughter through the city of Glendora park and rec program for their Jr. Chef class last fall. (Although since then I just sign up directly with them because it is a little cheaper to sign up directly.) My daughter loooves the teacher (Chef Danae). She was so genuinely caring with all of the little ones and my little one really enjoyed learning how to cook and making something she could eat. (The teacher always commented on what a good eater she is..I laughed because she normally isn't when I cook...I guess I will have to let her cook herself from now on!). Before that class I searched high and low online to find anything about the fine arts academy, but couldn't find anything so I signed up and crossed my fingers. The classes are held in the first Christian Church. It is an older building, nothing fancy, but I am ok with that because the quality of the instructors is nothing short of superb! They are very patient (saintly patient) and really care about each kid. Her cooking class had around 8 kids or so and they all got the attention they needed. I was so impressed I signed my daughter up for another cooking class (this time it was chef summer...equally amazing!). I also signed her up for the hand stitching class. Since I can barely sew a button on I wanted to make sure my child didn't suffer the same fate. :). the teacher (Nilda) reminds me of a young grandmother type...patiently helping the kids (only two in the class) learn how to thread the needle, sew lines, sew buttons, etc. The kids always have smiles when the class is done and you can tell they are proud of learning these skills. (I think they are going to make a little stuffed toy by the end of the class but I'm not sure). I also signed my daughter up for the drawing class...there are around 8 kids and it seems to be a really good class that they use a lot of different mediums and the teacher seems to be very knowledgable about how to teach basic and not so basic drawing classes. (I wish I had time myself to take one!). The nice thing about the classes is that they accommodate the age ranges listed really well. From the younger ones to the slightly older ones they all seem to be learning and having a good time. Also, all of the kids seem to be really nice kids which is also important to me. (I don't know if that is because parents that enroll their kids in "fine arts" classes tend to be more hands on or not, but whatever the reason, these are kids I wouldn't mind her hanging out with after class. I also took the earring making class and had a lot of fun. It was a two hour class and I probably made 5 sets of earrings. The teacher (also a grandmother type) was very very knowledgable and really patient...made me feel ok asking even basic questions...the age range of the class was probably 14 to 65 and we all had a great time...looking forward to the next jewelry class. I also signed up for the art and music one week summer camp...what a great week! There were only about 15-20 kids and tons of great volunteers...they danced (with top billing instructors) learned music -harmonica or percussion (from mike's guitar), sewed, did ceramics, cooked, created bugs from bowling balls...it was amazing how much they did in only 2 hours a day for a week! It was so nice that the instructors and volunteers got to personally know each of the kids. We'll be back next year! All in all, this is a great place where my kids are learning skills that will benefit them for the rest of their life. It's not a super fancy place, but I'd trade fancy surroundings for quality, personal instruction any day!

The following courtesy class policies are designed to accommodate students as well as not overbook the classes and are strictly enforced. 1. A courtesy class is awarded if you miss your regular for any reason. We ask that you cancel in advance if you know you will not be able to attend your regular class time as this may provide an opportunity for other students to attend their Courtesy Classes. 2. Courtesy classes may only be scheduled within a month in which your Class Membership is paid. 3. Courtesy classes are scheduled in addition to, not in place of, your regular scheduled class. 4. Courtesy classes cannot be credited toward account balances, Membership fees nor substituted for regular classes. 5. Once scheduled, a courtesy class cannot be rescheduled. If you fail to attend a scheduled Courtesy Class, that class is forfeited. For parents with busy schedules and an already limited class schedule, this policy only adds to stress of scheduling classes for your kids. Our instructor Kristen (and the blonde instructor -- forgot her name) were patient and encouraging throughout the entire class. Kristen's in depth explanation + demonstration was easy to follow as a beginner, but the instructors frequently made their rounds to work with everyone individually, giving advice and feedback. Despite the class session only being 2 hrs, I felt like I was able to focus on improving basic skills and learning new techniques. Even if you don't have any interest in pottery, I HIGHLY recommend taking a class regardless. The space is welcoming, and it was a great (and fun) way to release stress creatively :) looking forward to how my pieces come out!

It was a full class and the instructor patiently explained each step. Before you sign up, make sure to read the description carefully. There are hand-building classes and wheel throwing classes. Hand-building is hand molding and you don't work with the wheel. My one-time matcha bowl and whisk holder making class was hand-building and we don't get to decorate or glaze it. Instead, you get to pick from a selection of paint colors and their team finish glazing and fire it for you. You also need to wait about 6 weeks for it to be ready for pick up, which is standard for community pottery places. I picked the white paint with specks which I regretted. The glaze came back with some uneven spots and a dark brown mark on the outside. Since the studio glazed it for us, I was a little disappointed with the final result. Pottery definitely tests your patience and perfectionism. Not sure if pottery is for me, but I might come back for their wheel throwing class.

There was so much to do, from walking through the river and doing water play, to sand play in the pretend lake, to crafts (that we didn't have time for), to climbing equipment, and building/engineering/physics activities. Plenty of things to do both indoor and outdoor. The physics section is great for older kids too, even middle school (but the rest of the museum is definitely geared to elementary).

Outside, there are two adjacent outdoor kid's playgrounds. Near the entrance they have juice and fruit vendors and a balloonist. You'll see fans, pulleys, etc. to help your child appreciate scientific concepts while having fun. They also have tie-dye stations, climbing structures, tricycle race tracks, live music, and my son's favorites - the sandbox and pretend farmer's market and veggie patch. I noted lots of friendly staff dressed as camp rangers working with the kids and maintaining order with a smile, which is huge. Inside the buildings, you'll see traditional kid activities like toy trains, quiet reading areas, legos, and even more climbing structures. Looking forward to coming back next time we're in the area. The in-and-out policy is nice since they have lots of nearby offsite restaurants in nearby Old Pasadena.
