A nightmare. Overpriced toys, crowded, staff throwing around flying toys and yelling. What I fail to understand is how there isn't a room for nursing babies in a giant toy store. They sent me to the baby changing room, which smelled like dirty diapers and was so hot, both me and my baby sweated like we were in hell. No ventilation or window. Also no vent in the restrooms. Walking back through for the first time since I was a kid and it was just as magical. It feels like a real version of the Wonder Emporium. It's a must visit for anyone with kids. The best parts are the magic demonstrations in the back of the entry floor while planes and bubbles whiz past. It's the perfect entry. The other floors are great too, including my favorite the board game floor. I will say that the board games seem a little more Americanized now though. When I was a kid we brought back tons of games that we couldn't get back in the states, now we can get most of them. The place is really magical, just no how to say no to your kids since it's expensive, but I have no other toy store frame of reference in London. read more

The Hamleys branded toys have terrible quality. They're expensive and basically low quality made in China toys with high markup. Bought the fishing set and an RC car. Fishing set did not spin and car is slow with limited range. Not what I expected for such a nice store. Avoid the Hamleys branded toys. Only buy from reputable brands. read more

To infinity and beyond!!! This store is for someone who's a big kid at heart =] 7 floors of utter goodness, but my personal favourite is the ground floor. It 's filled with gazillion fluffy animals..from tiny sheep to enormous teddy's. I fell in love with a rather large bear which was half my size. It was so adorable but then again so was the price. I think if anyone were get down on one knee and propose to me, I'd prefer the bear than a diamond ring =p now that's saying something, especially since diamonds are truly a girls best friend. If you have children or nieces/nephews or even siblings...take them to Hamley's... every child deserves to go and experience the magic. Its the next closest thing to Disney world. read more

Not ideal for babies and toddlers because it's so crowded and it is _very_ warm inside. I didn't notice any place for moms to sit down and nurse. It's an intense experience but it's worth it! Walk into this store and even an adult will get distracted; its just such an interactive place. You truly truly forget who you are. I visit the store when I need to purchase a present for my nephew. It'll take me hours to browse through the whole store, but I never leave without buying anything. And sometimes even try a few of them, they do have a few games which are for grown-ups! Hamleys is what children dream of at night. It is 4 floors of toy goodness. Personally, I tend to hang around the board game area or the gadget filled sections to have a play around. I do sometimes find the staff a bit pushy with their demonstrations of the toys and objects, but don't let that stray you away. The best season for Hamleys is definitely Christmas. I love it when they place a snow machine on top of the shop which covers the whole of Regents Street with fills with snow flakes. It is simply magical. read more

You can't put stars on childhood memories, but if I have to, of course I will give them all the stars I can give! This place is a landmark, a staple in the London toy market. When I was a kid, and my mom said she would take me here, it was like a rush of excitement would just overtake me...a whole world of possibilities just opened up and nothing but rays of sunshine and rainbows would fill my world. I over exaggerate a bit...but not much. I don't live in London anymore, but now I have two young girls myself, I have to go to this place when I visit to get them each something special. One day I would LOVE to be able to walk in with them like my parents did with me. But the feeling of being in this store, feeling the magic, is still much the same as when I was a little girl. It rewinds all the "life lessons" and crap, and seriousness of being an adult. Besides the nostalgia, Hamleys offers the most unique of toys, and many floors that is nicely separated into logical categories. Hamleys is the hugest toy shop I've seen, floor upon floor of colourful, bright toys. It's fun to just walk around and look at everything on offer. However, it does get busy at times as it's on Oxford Street and it's very expensive. I also found that, despite being huge and filled to the brim with trinkets and toys, I found they're not very well stocked. I couldn't find several toys I specifically went there to look for and the staff is somewhat useless, they have no idea where to find what or what they even stock. Never have I ever been in a toy store like this! It is straight out of a movie. It has a Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium feel. There are many employees demonstrating toys and interacting with customers. This store seriously has every toy you could ever imagine...even those you never think would exsist! I used to go as a child and it was the vent of the year for me, un-sure if it is getting older or if it has lost a bit of the magic ? - Either way it is still a damm fine toy store. I cannot remember how many floors it is over but the wholes store is rammed to the rafters with TOYS - YEAH. Mad busy at times but during the week you can amble around, test out a few things and buy that present for whoever it is that is younger than you...... I love the remote control section, they have some amazing cars, helicopters and boats. But hey this stores has something for everyone and every age, if you need to buy a lot of presents for many children then you could crack it all in here...... If you're a fan of die-cast metal toys, then the fourth floor of Hamleys is for you. I am, in fact, a fan of die-cast metal toys. Once upon a time, it was not uncommon to find a nice replica of your favorite sports car, airplane, Star Wars vehicle, or transforming Japanese robot moulded from that perfect blend of zinc, aluminium and copper and powder coated. These days, however, plastic has replaced the hefty feel of metal toys, giving everything a very cheap, breakable quality. But, upon arriving on the fourth floor of Hamleys, I discovered an incredible range of cars, buses, and aircraft all made of die-cast. And the price was right...I found a wonderful Corgi die-cast space shuttle for about five pounds. The rest of the store was very nice, as it reminded me of FAO Schwartz without that damned "Welcome to my World of Toys" music at the entrance. But nothing I've seen before has yet to compare to the selection of die-cast that I found in Hamleys. I'll definitely have to return with a few more pounds in my pocket. read more

When in London, if you think of toys - you should think of Hamleys. This is the place I always wanted to go to as a child and I still remember getting the optic viewfinder there which had loads of little gadgets attached. From the moment when you approach (there is usually an employee playing with some toy that you instantly want!) to the moment you leave, time seems to stop. Only the lack of daylight lets you know time has actually passed. Each floor has something as amazing and unusual as the last. I am just judging Hamleys based upon their website, and for good reason. I am living in Austin, Texas with a little nephew living off of Brick Lane. I tried to contact about 10 toy stores in London about getting him some gifts for his recent birthday and none were accomidating, all saying that my credit card billing address had to be a U.K. address. This is the best and biggest toy shop in England. I love it. You can video games, Barbies, Lego, model cars etc all sorts of toys and adult toys. I just love it here it's not just magical for children but also magical for adults as we are all big kids at heart. This store is a complete scam. They con you into buying products and its disgusting that they advertise toys. I recently purchased a 'mystery UFO' which was demonstrated to us by a staff member, they showed us a few tricks and told us it was able to fly because it was magnetized which we later found out was a lie, the product we recived had a black string to connect the parts together and it stood out and was very obvious which ruins the whole point of this product. The staff member who showed us the product swept his hand through where the string is on out toy. Basically we got scammed and lost £26 . Never go to that shop the whole thing is just a scam. read more

This lie could have gone as far back as my grandparents, who may have been told the same thing as they waited, expectant eyes firmly fixed on the space under the Christmas tree. It used to be in Holborn, which is where it held the title as the largest sometime between 1760 and now. Today the Regent Street store has only got a few brimming floors - seven to be exact - so it's not as if you're not going to find something to spend your pocket money on in store. Ground level has the things you know you're not going to take home today, giant stuffed giraffes and life size plush lions, as well as some beautiful, more appropriately sized plushes in all the shades of the animal kingdom from turtles to bats - I kid you not, I have contemplated the wisdom of purchasing a bat puppet in Hamleys. It's also got the guys doing magic tricks and playing with bubble guns like pied pipers. Below ground is the new stuff, games consoles and the classic stuff: Lego. Going up: First floor for board games, jigsaws and the Build your own Bear factory. Choose their skin, stuff them to taste, insert a heart, stitch them all up, then finish with an outfit or bow to suit their personality. Second floor for the younger ones. Third floor the girls, forth floor for hobbies and model railways and fifth floor for the boys. Unless you have a love of crowds of stressed parents and crying kids you don't want to go anywhere near the place at Christmas. My great grandparents were totally right. It's pretty much toy heaven. Terrible place. They hire professional actors, artists and musicians to use every trick in the book to sell little children what looks like very fun toys. The only comparison I can think of is that these actors would make very good snake oil salesmen in the wild west. When we opened the toys at the cafe down the street, our boy was crying "it's rubbish" in less than 20 minutes because he could not repeat the magic tricks and do the art exactly the way these professionals were able to do. There was nothing physically wrong with the products we bought, otherwise we would have taken them back. We were expecting a lot more out of what we were sold. Exciting times in the store, but when reality hit, we had such a miserable experience for both child and adults. read more

Hamleys, fantastic if you are a child, well even if you aren't a child you should definitely go and take a walk around. It has changed quite a bit since I was younger. There is no longer a games area on the 5th floor which is a shame, but there is a now a cafe which is a plus :) The bear area on the ground floor is great! gotta love bears! When you walk in you have guys with planes and showing off toys, which is always a great way to get people talking, they have a magician and they have demos that you can play with. There is nowhere else in London that can compare to this shop. If you are coming here with kids then make sure you have a big bank balance, because you will not be leaving empty handed =D p.s. don't forget to pick me up a present ;) read more

As I have two young nephews I find myself in Hamleys 2-3 times a year when on the gift trail and it's difficult not to find something for them simply because the place is massive. Seven floors of toys, games and everything else a child (of any age) could imagine wanting. Hamleys will be busy, particularly on a weekend but the staff are usually good value as they seem to enjoy demonstrating all the wares as much as the younglings like indulging in them. My favourite bit is the sweets area. There's a jelly bean factory. Not an actual factory but more of a buffet with a load of flavours to choose from. This can get expensive, it's still great though. I can't pretend that it's just 'for the kids' as the inner child does jump a little with excitement while perusing and I'm hit with more than a small bout of nosalgia. I'm already looking forward to the next excuse to guide me there. read more

Came here with my 10yr old god daughter very briefly before having to rush off somewhere for lunch. I really wish we'd had more time as it was simply so much fun! As soon as you walk in there are loads of welcoming staff with fun demos and whizzing helicopter type stuff. Each floor has a theme and fun demonstrators. They really take the time and energy to interact with the children and even though we didn't go to buy anything in particular, I was so tempted to buy many, just because of the fun demos. The lego Queen and Royal Family is quite funny too. I'd say definitely worth a visit to entertain children but perhaps no an essential for London if you're pushed for time. read more

You know that really cool toy store in Home Alone 2? Well, Hamley's is just like that. It's several stories high, and has basically all sorts of toys. Unlike Toys R Us or other toy stores, Hamley's offers a much wider variety of toys by companies from across the world. From the usual Legos and action figures to Tomica trains and magician's tools. Moreover, the employees here are very energetic. On every level, there are workers demonstrating the toys and playing with the kids. If Disneyland were a toy store, it'd be called Hamley's. Of course, because this place is so big, finding a particular item can be like finding a needle in a haystack. I went to Hamley's needing to buy some solid rubber balls for a science experiment. I asked the people downstairs and they told me to search upstairs, and the people upstairs said I should try looking downstairs. I eventually found the balls I wanted, and they were great, but it took a bit of time. read more

The interaction with the staff demonstrating the toys was one of the best things about this store. They were all enthusiastic and kind.
