Was very excited to not have to drive super far to get to some local hiking. This area very much reminded me of my hometown. I am only going to review one hike though as that is all i had the chance to enjoy of wasatch mountain state park. If I were in heber again i would love to go and explore this beauty more. Crows nest via huber grove via epperson is the hike we attempted to go on. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/utah/crows-nest-via-huber-grove-to-epperson Its a 5.1 mile loop trail that starts at the parking lot next to the visitor center. It is rated moderate. so there are so many off shoots on this trail. We followed teh all trails map and it led us astray. We eventually found the finale crows nest loop but my teens were done at that point and we just headed back. The loop in all trails map also is longer than what is listed. There are not a lot of signs that say crows nest. We did find our way out easily enough. Trail is dry. Pretty area once you get up into the trees. It is nice that wasatch is not too far out of town so very accessible. If you do not have a utah state parks pass be sure to bring $10 cash or go to the website at teh parking lot and then you can pay for parking online

This is a very unique experience that I won't soon forget. Pricey so may be a one time experience,…read morebut if you are reconsidering it... I say do it once! They say that over 10,000 years ago the Homestead Crater was formed when melting snow along the Wasatch Mountains mixed with heated geothermal hot springs 2 miles below the earths surface started spewing out water and picking up minerals such as limestone which were then deposited above the earths surface forming a volcano or "beehive" like formation. A Swiss settler discovered it in the late 1800's and named it a hot pot. Originally visitors had to be lowered into it via cable. As of the mid 1990's there is now access via a tunnel. We of course had to check it out and I'm so glad we got to experience it and learn about the history. It wasn't as hot as I had expected it to be, and while I initially thought 50 min was not enough of an experience, it most certainly was.

I asked my sister if she wanted to go when they came out here for Christmas, and I had her help me choose where to go. I polled friends, and then I had her choose. She chose the Homestead Crater, and she wasn't disappointed! It isn't too interesting in terms of things to look at, but getting to swim in a hot spring in a Crater, on Christmas Eve no less, made it a cool experience for family from Virginia. The water reflected was pretty blue-ish, which reminded me of a lagoon (like in The Little Mermaid ). I loved hearing of the history of the cave, how it was formed, and the minerals in the water. The water was perfect for a cold day. There are a few stalls, built into the cave wall for changing. The time changing is included in the 1 hour time slot you pay for. The staff was nice and knowledgeable. You do have to wear a life vest, which is provided at the Crater. There are also a couple of places you can sit, like the shallow end of a pool, if you don't want to "swim." Scuba diving is an option, for a little extra. Apparently some of my friends certified there for their scuba certifications. We hope to come back again soon!

If you're looking for the perfect winter adventure in Utah, Rocky Mountain Outfitters in Midway…read moreabsolutely delivers a magical, unforgettable experience -- especially during the Christmas season. From the moment you arrive, the staff makes you feel completely welcomed. They're friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their horses and the beautiful area they work in. The seasonal horseback rides are incredible. Early in the season, you ride through the charming town of Midway, surrounded by snowy fields and mountain views that look like a Christmas postcard. Later in the season, the rides move up to Soldier Hollow, where the scenery becomes even more breathtaking -- open meadows, Olympic-era trails, and the Wasatch Mountains glowing in the winter light. The horses are gentle, well-trained, and perfect for beginners and experienced riders alike. But the true holiday magic comes from their draft horse wagon rides. Being pulled by beautiful Percheron and Belgian horses through thousands of sparkling Christmas lights at the Wasatch Mountain Golf Course is absolutely enchanting. The sleigh bells, the crisp winter air, the glow of the lights -- it feels straight out of a movie. Rocky Mountain Outfitters is a must-do winter tradition. Five stars without hesitation!
