The first amazing surprise is there was no entry fee! We entered the garden and quickly ran into another surprise- a human-sized chess board! My boys wanted to play a game against each other...didn't know it was going to take 45mins...but it was fun to sit and watch and listen to the birds chirping. We then continued our tour around the grounds and saw many wonderful plants, trees, bushes, flowers and more. The grounds are beautifully manicured! There some educational areas where you can learn more about irrigation, landscaping and design. To walk around the garden takes about 30mins, but we spent 1.5hrs here as we took a lot of pictures and asked some questions from the workers. The workers and volunteers were very gracious to answer our questions and teach us more about the garden. You can tell they love their job and they love visitors. At the end of the tour, I made sure to drop a little cash in their donation box. Thanks Conservation Garden Park for the great time!

They have great visual exhibits, labelling placards, and fun interactive activities. 10/10 worth the stop, and I can't believe this place is free to the public. We stopped in here to take some casual iPhone photos as a family since we don't see eachother everyday. (Photography requires a $10 pass) It was the perfect backdrop for what we were doing, and we had a great time exploring the gardens through the park along the way.

Well, this is a different place than it used to be. As a kid, I would go here with my dad. It was a…read moreschool then, and we'd sled down the hill. Some very fond memories of my dad getting the old inner tubes, blowing them up, and tubing down. He took my little brothers a couple times and I went as a pre-teen and the hill seemed much smaller then. As a teen, my first ever paying job was here. Again, it was still a school, and they had baseball diamonds where I was an umpire for tee-ball. Such memories. When they got rid of the school, I was curious to see what would happen. What sprung up in its place was a park that the next generation of kids will have to fill their memories. Instead of the school, and a winter-only sledding hill, this is a full-blown summer park. Apparently splash pads are a thing. Safer than a pool (at least for drowning) and still built to keep you cool in the heat of the summer, there's a big ol' splash pad here that's built for the little ones to stomp around and get wet. Bring the sunscreen. As others have mentioned, there's a lack of shade here, so you'll want to protect yourself from the sun. And it's probably best as a weekday reprieve. It swarms with kids on the weekends and you might get elbowed around. Beyond the splash pad, you've got some playgrounds that are geared towards different aged kids, some courts, and a whole lot of grass. This park covers the bases for lots of kids of different ages and will surely be one of the places to provide them with fond childhood memories.

I'm back to the annual update tradition that started nearly a decade ago, and the reason is that…read moreafter a year hiatus (thanks, COVID), Midvale's Harvest Days is back. So I spent some time here last weekend. But even moreso, I have spent far far far more time in the park over the last 4 months than I ever did before, due to the addition of a disc golf course. Now, back in the day (waaaaay back) I was pretty into the sport and have played on about 100 courses all over this fine country. But the sport blew up and is having a moment right now, so much so that courses are popping up all over the place and this fun little pitch-n-putt par 3 seemed to show up out of nowhere. It's great--everything is under 400 feet, and it's brought a lot of people out to the park that might not ever have made it over--truly making this a park for the people. Besides that, they've made some big improvements. There's now a massive pavilion over by the senior center, which is no longer the senior center, but rather a lovely little museum. It's a drought year so I take it easy on them for the condition of the grass which is, you know, not precisely lush right now. But it's beautiful to see them taking water conservation seriously. I'll be over there plenty often now, getting in a quick 9 holes in under an hour, but I'll also be back for Harvest Days next year. Until then!

There is a large area of grass that you could play soccer, flag football or even fly kites. I've seen people flying their drones, and racing their battery operated remote control cars here. The older section has a pavilion, bathrooms, and a small slash pad for the kids with another swing set close by. On Friday nights during the summer they have free concerts. Something for the whole family. Parking lot is on the small size for a park, and the Boys and Girls Club is near by, I believe they share the parking space. Aspen Meadows would be best described as a dog-walking park…read more While it has a gigantic space, there aren't the usual sporting accoutrements like tennis courts, basketball hoops, goals and such (although the room is plentiful enough for it!). There is, however, a perfectly placed playground for the kids, a few picnic tables including one under a gazebo. This playground includes the usuals and some unusuals, including a cool mini rock-climbing wall. The is a little bit of road noise, but luckily 9800 isn't used much up this way! Placed on a steepish hill, with a walkway around it, the grandiose space is perfect for walking your dog...or walking yourself. ;) There is even a poop-bag station. There is also a cool walk path connecting directly from the nearby neighborhood. Definitely a cool park for the whole family!

For Midvale--with only 4 parks and some very small ones (that I've reviewed rather critically)--BJP is a masterwork. First, a call out to anyone living in the Riverwalk Homes, Cascades at Riverwalk, Winchester Estates .... or heck, anyone in Midvale or anywhere near Midvale: GO TO YOUR PARK. On the banks of the Jordan River on its east side and enveloped by homes and apartments on the other three, there is a stunningly empty park on an 80-degree late summer day. There's a gigantic open, grassy area perfect for play. It has hill with a pronounced mound at the top. It's a great vantage point to see the park--as well as the mountains and the whole valley. But it's not there by accident. Come winter time, it becomes a sledding hill. There's a bit of a techie design to the place with the circuit board/microchip design between the pavilion and the basketball courts. And, oh, yeah, the basketball courts! Six different hoops, all adjustable to regular height or slam-dunkable for those with non-existent jumping capabilities. If you're on a day like when I visited, you can play a full-court game on a high-quality hard court (donated by, and adorned with, the logo of the Utah Jazz). With the long steps by it, the area doubles as an amphitheater. Add to that a full-sized sunken baseball field, equipped with walls and lights for night games give it that real baseball park vibe. The covered play area is the perfect meshing of rope of all sizes ... a climber's dream. Add to this several table-benches and the cleanest park restroom Ive been in, and you've got the perfect place to take the family on just about any day. I know I'll be back!

I honestly wasn't planning to do much at Murray City Park (I just stopped by to stretch my legs for…read morea bit) but it ended up being way nicer than you expect a quick stop to be. When you enter, you're greeted by a huge wooden Chief Wasatch sculpture at the entrance. It's kind of hard to miss and gives the whole place a bit of character before you even step onto the paths. From there, it opens up into this really clean, green space that just feels well cared for. And clean is the big thing here that matters. It feels like the park is well maintained. The grass is lush, the landscaping is especially pretty in the summer months, and there are tons of mature trees that give you shade without making the place feel closed in. It strikes a nice balance between open space and cozy, private areas. The walking paths are another highlight. They're easy, flat, and perfect if you're just trying to clear your head or, like me, take a quick break and stretch your legs. You've also got little views of water here and there that add to the calm vibe without turning it into a full-on destination park. What's kind of impressive is how much is packed into one place. There's an amphitheater, sports fields for pretty much everything, a pool, even an outdoor ice rink when it's in season. The park has playgrounds, picnic areas, and pavilions, too. The park is open year-round and is clearly a local favorite because it's always buy, but the crowds never felt overwhelming when I was there. There's enough space to spread out, which helps. Overall, this park is not trying to be anything flashy, just a really solid, well-kept community park. Easy to walk, nice to look at, and surprisingly relaxing for a quick stop. I found myself on the trail on a Sunday morning and crossed paths with plenty of other runners and joggers. It's a well traveled trail-likely because it's in a super convenient place with parking and a restroom nearby. There's also a playground for the kiddos, so it's kind of perfect for everything park-related.

The vibe is this--unexpected parks, well-maintained, but pretty simple and quiet and small. It feels like they've taken a quantity approach, and rather than pack people into massive megaparks (oh, they've got those too--looking at you, Veterans Memorial) they have these tiny parks tucked into the crevices between houses and neighborhoods. Bicentennial is a case in this point. Located right there on 7000 S, it's actually not so tucked away, but all you really see is a long field and some trees at the end. If you drive into the neighborhood, you'll park along the road and find a small pavilion, some picnic tables, and a wonderful playground. That's pretty much the entirety of the place, and it clocks in at just over an acre and a half. I think the idea is lovely, and it was well-maintained and clean, which is really the key to places like this, so I'm all for the small parks dotting the map where West Jordians... Jordanese... citizens of West Jordan can walk to and enjoy.
