Weekends are made for families and many of em turned out here. Fishing, hiking, sunning and exploring. Beautiful mountains with different colors, textures and type of trees. Lots of cars on and parked on the side of this 2 lane highway. Visually stunning mountain views with a rushing river besides the roadways.

New trail for me today. There is a fee for parking. The park provides year-round recreation activities - golf, hiking, biking, camping , horseback riding, snowmobiling , ATVs, fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing a little bit of everything for the outdoor enthusiasts. Such a beautiful area for hiking especially this time of year. We drove here by way of Guardsman Pass which will close when the snow falls. The best way to get to the park when that happens is through Heber City. Geocaching is also at Wasatch Mountain State Park and offer Traditional Caches and Multi-caches. If you have ever GeoCached you know what fun this can be. It brings out your Sherlock Holmes skills. Lots of wildlife are in this area, especially bird watching. I would love to spot a Belted Kingfisher, but I'm usually on the move, and looking at my feet to actually spot one.

    Clothing for sale and rentals.

We drove through the state park. This is a nice area off the highway with lots of trails and a campsite. A golf course is nearby. The Visitors Center has a lot of information. The man behind the desk gave me Trail maps and answered questions. Parking to use the trails is $7 all day. Brochures for area attractions are in a rack. Clothing with the park logo is for sale. Lots of cross country skis and mountain bikes are for rent. Plus, there is a nice display of nature, Native American, and early settlers. Children would like it. Bathrooms are handicapped accessible. Make this a first stop.

This is a hidden gem for cross country skiing. The space is beautiful, the rentals are cheap and the staff is friendly! Best way to spend a Saturday morning (or any winter morning), in my opinion!

There appeared to be nice hiking and biking trails in the area, and a golf course (if that's your thing).

This is a very unique experience that I won't soon forget. Pricey so may be a one time experience,…read morebut if you are reconsidering it... I say do it once! They say that over 10,000 years ago the Homestead Crater was formed when melting snow along the Wasatch Mountains mixed with heated geothermal hot springs 2 miles below the earths surface started spewing out water and picking up minerals such as limestone which were then deposited above the earths surface forming a volcano or "beehive" like formation. A Swiss settler discovered it in the late 1800's and named it a hot pot. Originally visitors had to be lowered into it via cable. As of the mid 1990's there is now access via a tunnel. We of course had to check it out and I'm so glad we got to experience it and learn about the history. It wasn't as hot as I had expected it to be, and while I initially thought 50 min was not enough of an experience, it most certainly was.

The swim/soak for 40 minutes in the natural crater is a 5/5 experience! The cost is $30 per person…read more(a little pricey), and the water temperature is usually high 90s Fahrenheit (cooler than a typical hot tub). Lockers and changing rooms (but not showers or bathrooms) are available for your items after you enter the crater. The online purchase to reserve your spot was easy. You should bring your own towel and lock for a locker. The Homestead facility is currently undergoing construction, so I realize the check in experience may improve later. The signs for parking and check in locations were confusing and/or incorrect, and multiple employees with an H polo didn't help us with finding the lot when we were clearly looping around among construction unsure where to go. I'd recommend to Homestead to remove/cover the arrow sign to the crater on Bluff Rd until that construction is complete. Additionally, I recommend better check-in signage on the beige activities building since this busy country club has many "activities" from tennis to golf that aren't necessarily linked to the crater. Temporary A-frame signs would be sufficient. I felt safe in the crater with the required life vest, and we signed waivers before entering. The view from the top of the crater is lovely if you're willing to climb a few dozen steps.

From the moment you arrive, the staff makes you feel completely welcomed. They're friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their horses and the beautiful area they work in. The seasonal horseback rides are incredible. Early in the season, you ride through the charming town of Midway, surrounded by snowy fields and mountain views that look like a Christmas postcard. Later in the season, the rides move up to Soldier Hollow, where the scenery becomes even more breathtaking -- open meadows, Olympic-era trails, and the Wasatch Mountains glowing in the winter light. The horses are gentle, well-trained, and perfect for beginners and experienced riders alike. But the true holiday magic comes from their draft horse wagon rides. Being pulled by beautiful Percheron and Belgian horses through thousands of sparkling Christmas lights at the Wasatch Mountain Golf Course is absolutely enchanting. The sleigh bells, the crisp winter air, the glow of the lights -- it feels straight out of a movie. Rocky Mountain Outfitters is a must-do winter tradition. Five stars without hesitation!
