I visited Hamilton's Kitchen with family for brunch last weekend and had a nice experience. We started with some Truffle Fries as an appetizer. The fries were decent: lightly crisp on the outside with a soft inside and lightly salted. However, I did not get any truffle flavor. I also had an order of Avocado Toast and Bacon Shrimp & Grits. The Avocado Toast was delicious. Lightly crisp toast was topped with creamy and lightly salty and lemony avocado, crisp arugula and juicy tomatoes. The Bacon Shrimp & Grits was my favorite part of the meal. Very creamy and buttery grits were topped with tender shrimp, crispy bacon bits, crisp scallions, and juicy tomatoes. read more

This place is really beautiful. The hotel, The Alfond Inn, is a touch of trendy with a hint of classic. Food: colorful, fresh, flavorful, and textured. I got the watermelon appetizer with feta, figs, arugula, and bacon. This was honestly the best. Light and perfectly proportioned. Great flavor combinations. For an entree I got the wild salmon. It was perfectly cooked, the rice though was on the sweeter side with ginger carrots and it did overpower a little. The side of broccoli was perfect. I wanted more. The dessert was a rich whiskey pudding and man, I couldn't finish it. Drinks: I did not have a beverage but the selection of custom cocktails was creative and my friends enjoyed. Price- we did the "magical dining" special which had a reduced rate for 3 courses but the prices a la cart were reasonable to the caliber of quality, $17-$30 range. Service: timely, friendly, and attentive. The food came out appropriately timed and our water was always full. Atmosphere: not too fancy, not casual though. It's a place if describe as "nice afternoon brunch" attire. It was quiet enough to have a good, private conversation with 4 people. There was plenty of seating. What a beautiful location. Perfect for a small intimate wedding, or just your casual weekend brunch. It's highly advisable to make a reservation as you probably won't be able to get a table especially if you want to go on the weekend. It most definitely is quite busy on weekends, when we went there were lots of empty tables, and not enough servers. It did take a little while for our server to come and take our order and bring our drinks. We started off with the avocado toast. There is a generous amount of avocado on the toast, but it was kind of underwhelming and nothing special about. The farmhouse platter was pretty Average as well. The bacon was nice and crispy though. I probably wouldn't get this dish again. The chicken and waffles were delicious. A generous amount of crispy chicken. Could probably do with a bit more syrup on top, but this was the most outstanding dish out of the three we ordered . read more

Dined her for magical dining on a Thursday evening. Chose the lamb meatballs for my appetizer and it was divine. For my main, I chose the Faroe island salmon which was pretty good (not a fan of the broccoli rabe) and for desert I had the key lime mousse (yummy). This was the 2nd time I came here with my book club. The first time I had the shrimp and grits that were richly delicious. This time I had the almond chicken salad although the chef salad my friend had looked yummy. The chicken was tender, included not too much mayonnaise, crunchy slivers of almonds and juicy dried cranberries. I have a gluten allergy and I was fine with both meals. All the food on the table looked good. I liked that it was a brunch menu. I think they serve breakfast until 2 or so. The waitress was average, the hostesses were not very friendly but the front desk and the valets made up for them. I love Hamilton's Kitchen. The food is amazing and you can tell all the ingredients are fresh. I got the lobster mac and cheese was delicious. The outdoor seating area is beautiful as is the Alfond Inn. I will say my pasta was a little over $30 which is a lot for pasta. I would definitely come back here though but only for a special occasion because it is pricy. read more

My friend and I came here for restaurant week. I loved it. My appetizer was ordered the pork which came with grits and fried green tomatoes. The pork was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone. The grits and tomatoes were very tasty as well. My friend ordered the chicken with gnocchi. She said she wasn't impressed as her chicken was extremely dry. The dessert however was good. I ordered the key lime pie and she the bread pudding which was to die for. The restaurant itself is located in Winter Park in a beautiful venue. There was a dance floor next door where music was playing. Our overall experience was good. I will definitely be back for that bread pudding as it was by far my favorite dish. read more

It didn't have the traditional favor profile of a chili but that's what made it so wonderful. Bold, rich and sharp. For seconds, I had the chicken served over risotto and capped with artichoke coulis. It was a great and balanced dish. For dessert I tried the butterscotch pudding. It was sumptuous and velvety. We went a little crazy on the appetizers, unfortunately, and were not able to get to the entrees. Its a shame, the salmon looked great. The octopus was just ok because it had too many flavors: it came atop a balsamic glaze, hummus, pickled tomatoes, and a fluffy cheese. I really enjoy the flavor of well cooked octopus and there was just too much going on here, in my opinion. The crab cakes tasted fishy, I do not recommend those. The veal meatballs were good but there were only 2 and they werent too large. Our first visit and our last. An incredibly disappointing experience. We were potentially running 10 mins late for our reservation, so as conscientious guests, we called ahead. As it turned out, we arrived in time...and they made us wait 15 mins because they had moved our reservation based on our courtesy call. If they just didn't have a table ready that would've been understandable, however, they flippantly told us "we can't seat you until your reservation time." Wow, shockingly poor customer service from 2 hostesses standing around looking bored. We are seated and still optimistic about our evening. We sat for 15 mins before a server came to greet us. He explained that he would not be our server but would take our drink order and our server would be by soon. 10 mins after that, our server showed up; still no drinks from the previous order. My husband wanted to leave but I foolishly insisted we stay. We got a bottle of wine, ordered food and thought our evening was on the upturn; unfortunately, it was not. The appetizers were good (caprese salad + beet salad) but the steak left a lot to be desired. There was an interesting green sauce on the fries that I would've preferred on the side (didn't love the taste and it made the fries soggy). While our server was polite, it was difficult to get anyone's attention when we needed something (our table faced the server station and by appearance 6 servers were standing around talking). For the check, I had to go to the server station to ask for it. Overall I would say the location is nice, the food is mediocre and the service all around needs improvement. My friends advised us against going to Hamilton's Kitchen, based on their own disappointing experiences, but I wanted to judge it for myself. There are better places to go, for certain. read more

I was not impressed with Hamilton's Kitchen. The Alfond Inn is gorgeous and even the bar of the restaurant was beautiful. But decor can't make up for service and the meal. Our reservation was for 8 and we walked up to the hostess at 7:52. The hostess after clicking on her computer for a minute said, "We usually sit you closer to your reservation time." I thought that was weird as the restaurant looked somewhat empty and we were only 8 minutes away from our time. She told us we could get drinks at the bar and come back. So we ordered martinis which had to be served in rocks glasses as they had run out of martini glasses. The bartender apologized and it was fine. We finished our drinks and went back up to the hostess. She acted as if she hadn't seen us just 8 minutes before and said -- "Hello, how can I help you?" Uhhhh, we were just here and we have a reservation at 8. She clicked around on her computer some more (I swear she was playing a game or something) and said she would be right back to check on our table. She came back a few minutes later and said it's ready. She led us to our table and gave us the menus. Her demeanor was *very* strange for someone that is supposed to be the first face of a restaurant. Our waiter was not any better. Did not introduce himself. Did not really say much at all actually. We ordered a bottle of champagne and when he brought it out and started to pour our glasses, he was SHAKING. Like almost knocked my glass over. We did the magical dining menu and I ordered the beet salad as my appetizer. I was not a fan of it - the flavor was strange and there was not enough of the goat cheese. But that's my opinion. But the real tragedy was my entree. I ordered the Lemon Sage Chicken Gnocchi. The gnocchi itself had good flavor but the chicken was SO DRY. I kept trying to take bites and felt like I had cotton balls in my mouth. When our server came around to collect our plates, he asked if I wanted a to go box for the chicken and I told him no and that the chicken was extremely dry and inedible. And he acted very strange and said "oh, uh, that's, uh, weird, and, uh, that never, uh, happens. I'll find out what, uh, happened." But y'all, he never said A WORD about it again. No comp, no apology, nothing. I mean, I get it, it's magical dining, so it was cheaper than normal. But come on, that doesn't make me want to come here again. The Key Lime pie, however, was delicious. So it's safe to say that this was not a great experience. read more

This was a gorgeous spot! This is located inside the Alfond hotel in winter park. The ambiance, and service was amazing. The frittata was a great portion size as well. They also do bottomless mimosas for $18 so that's always a plus! I would come back here again for a fun brunch with friends. read more

I did not know this restaurant existed before seeing it listed with other Magical Dining participants. The menu has a variety of vegetarian and pescatarian options. All of the dishes that I had from the Magical Dining menu were outstanding (beets/pasta primavera/butterscotch). My friend had the mahi mahi entree and noted that the fish was dry and the coconut rice seemed lacking in coconut flavor. The servers were nice enough but it took a looooong time for our food and drinks to be ready. Like awkwardly long. Especially since there weren't a lot of people in the dining area. It almost felt like we were being purposely forgotten. Overall, I enjoyed the meal itself. I didn't enjoy the excessive waiting. The decor throughout the hotel is really nice, but I don't feel like that sense of luxury spilled into the restaurant as much as the bar area. The next time I visit, I'll sit at the bar and hope we don't have to wait as long. read more

A great place to meet with family visiting from out of town. The food is always good and their brunch menu is laudable and quick, but the service is hit or miss. Went there for brunch. Since there was a 25 min wait for a table my husband and I sat at the bar to eat. The service was okay. The building was just beautiful and the food was great. I was invited to a birthday dinner here that I couldn't attend, so when I saw there was a Groupon for brunch for 2 I snatched it up. Now, I don't know if we got the terrible service because we had a Groupon or because we had to push back our (required because of the Groupon) brunch reservation an hour (due to an accident that caused a traffic delay) and they just didn't have a proper server to wait on us...but, oh man, this wasn't a great experience. In fact, I was uncomfortable for the majority of the time. Upon arriving, the hostess told us she would be with us shortly so we sat down as she attended to a couple who was waiting before us. We were then ignored by her until we walked back up to the hostess station at which point she finally acknowledged us again. So...that was a weird start to a weird experience. Once we were seated, a woman (not dressed like any of the other servers) came up to our table and attempted to memorize our order. A few minutes later, she returned and "clarified" a few things which were all totally wrong. Surprisingly, our food came out correctly and, a plus, promptly. We both liked the oatmeal, and I enjoyed my eggs Benedict and grits. My sister ordered the Huevos rancheros which she didn't like (see attached photo: they looked terribly unappealing)...but we did not ask to switch them out--which I'm now regretting. She also ordered the truffle cheese fries as her side and just asked for them sans truffle oil (so basically, cheese fries...simple right?) and was given plain fries? Our server was short with us and wouldn't wait for us to finish a sentence before walking away. Probably the worst thing that happened was when I asked for 2 cups of iced water (they give you water with no ice when you arrive and never offer to refill it). She comes back with 1 cup of just ice that had someone's old lemonade in the bottom of the glass. That was the point at which I was completely disgusted by the entire situation. I mentioned it and asked for it to be switched, and she snatched the glass from be without a word and came back with the two glasses of water I'd initially asked for (at which point I was hesitant to drink because of the old dirty cup I was previously given)...but no comment from our server on the bizarre situation. I could definitely see myself enjoying the beautiful atmosphere with a different server, sans the dirty cups and sub par huevos rancheros. Update: So I went again today to use the other Groupon I had purchased before it expired (apparently you can't return groupons anymore--I tried) and the experience was much better with a server named Rachel who was attentive, never let our waters go empty, and was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and accommodating. We finally got our cheesy truffle fries minus the truffle ha ha. And no dirty cups, yay! I noticed this time that the people clearing and setting tables were wearing the uniform that our previous "server" had been wearing....I still don't get what that was all about but I had to update my review to say that Hamilton's does offer good service, if you get an actual server! Ask for Rachel and you'll be taken good care of. The food is genuinely "meh". I have to say, both times o was underwhelmed. I would choose Briarpatch or even The Coop over Hamilton's food any day. But the grounds are beautiful and the ambiance was great today. read more

The hubby and I have been magical dining all week celebrating our Anniversary. We decided to put Hamilton's kitchen on our list. Everything from the service, decor and food was wonderful. Our waiter Fernando was on point with his attentiveness during our entire dinner. The food was excellent! He had the steak skewers and I had the pork chop. Great flavors all around. The key lime dessert didn't disappoint either. I would say this place is casual. You can dress up or down and not feel out of place.. No amount of words can express the gratitude I have for this place. The staff and managers were super accommodating for our party of 22 and helped us to create a set menu for our lunch party in honor of my grandfather. They even printed out menus for us, which made everything so much more special. And they were super understanding when some of us arrived late from the funeral. I chose the mixed greens salad and the chicken and waffles. The mixed greens were good. I particularly enjoyed the contrast of the blue cheese to the sweetness of the pear and balsamic. The chicken and waffles were my favorite! Everyone who ordered them finished their plate. The chicken was super crispy and the waffle was so light and fluffy. The food came out pipping hot which is always a good sign in my book. Their soup of the day was a beet gazpacho and it was on point! It was so creamy and delicious. I've never had beets that have tasted so good in soup form. I also sampled the salmon (with faro) and it was also pretty fresh and tasty. I would highly recommend coming here not only for regular service but if you have a special occasion. Beautiful setting in the Alfond Inn hotel. Had dinner last night with friends and the service at first was lackluster. Waited over 20 minute after receiving water to make an appetizer order. There were two servers and about five tables occupied. Picked up after that. Food was okay at best. Two of our guests had to ask for the mashed potatoes and and veggies to be reheated. Filet was over cooked. Lobster Mac and cheese was very good. Airline chicken was dry in several spots. For a $280 meal we expected more. read more

Our delicious cheesy Shrimp and Grits serving was more family-style-size enough to feed a village. I can't say enough about Hamilton's Kitchen in the Alfond Inn, so I will give it to you straight no chaser. I love this restaurant from the historical back story and the service to the modern Southern theme throughout the menu and the décor. We were served a beautiful and delicious amuse-bouche which I haven't been served before, and it set the stage for more of what was to come. The food, the pairings, the cocktails, the vibe, and ambience were exceptional. The farm to table elements and flavors were undeniable. This is the kind of restaurant where you can spend hours dining and fellowshipping. It was a lovely experience, and we did not spend a fortune which is more than I can say about some of the..., nope, let's not go there. Hamilton's Kitchen was the sophisticated back drop that I wanted for my lovely daughter's five-star birthday dinner, and I appreciate the effort and extra refinements that made it a simply elegant affair overall. read more

Stayed at the hotel "The Alfond" and the it was exceptional!!! So we ate at the restaurant- brunch- and the food was really good! The service could have been allot better! Asked for the Avacado Toast for appetizer- delicious, but got it after we asked for it when our meal was almost gone. I asked for extra dressing - waited a long time then they brought the wrong one. They also did t apply our 40$ coupon. Had to call them after we checked out to adjust. But the HOTEL WAS PERFECT ! I had the chicken salad (salad) and my husband had the tortatta. Wasn't prepared the tradition way - but was delicious. My chicken salad was amazing!!! Dijon dressing was delicious and the chicken with toasted almond and cranberries- lightly dressed was heavenly! I would choose this place as my favorite brunch spot. However I'm not giving it a 5 star and there is one main reason for it. Their food. As soon as you walk into the Alfond Inn, you know that you're gonna have a good time regardless of the food. Great people, great atmosphere and beautiful outside seating. So I would give it a 5/5 for view, theme and the location. I normally go there for breakfast but this time I went on a Sunday when they serve brunch. The brunch menu seemed to be more complete. With few exciting options like deviled egg ($12) and so on. I got what I always get, the Belgian waffle with berries and a side of eggs. I can say for sure that this is the best waffle that I've ever had. Nice presentation and good taste. However, I don't think their food deserve a 5/5. The rest of the food in their menu is like anywhere else with fairly simple presentation and nothing unique to it. If you don't wanna feel super heavy and enjoy a good meal, here is a good place to go. I would choose this place over briarpatch just because you don't feel super heavy. read more

It's a beautiful restaurant inside of a beautiful hotel inside of beautiful Winter Park. The service was great and the food was good. It was a solid, good, experience. We both ordered the soup of the day, which was an Indian inspired soup. I think there were lentils and chicken in it, but I couldn't really tell you. It was delicious though. The best item of the night, actually. The bread service consisted of breadsticks and pimento cheese which were both tasty. I liked the cheese. We also had an appetizer of the smoked fish dip and it was great. The presentation on this was killer! When they opened the lid, smoke came billowing out. Cool concept and even better tasting! My eentré was the rack of lamb with roasted carrots and potatoes over butternut squash. The spice rub on the lamb was delicious, but it was slightly undercooked for my liking. They said the chef cooks it to a medium, but it was more rare than anything. It was good, just not the best lamb I've ever had. The carrots were undercooked but the other vegetables were fine. My dinner partners entrée was the double cut pork chop, and it was just okay, as there wasn't much to the flavoring. The cheese grits were average and the collard greens were okay, but nothing over the top amazing. I'm glad I had a TravelZoo deal to use because it was definitely not worth the full amount it would've been. The location is beautiful, the service was great, the presentation was gorgeous, but the food was just slightly better than average. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to go, I was able to check this place off my list, but I'm not in any hurry to go back. If someone wanted to go, I'd go, but it's not at the top of my list. read more
