I came here with my wife and her family for dinner and had a great experience with wonderful service and exceptional food. The interior is newly renovated, with Spanish-style rounded nooks. We started with the Cubano Rolls ($15) and Honey Biscuits ($12). The Cubano Rolls are Cuban sandwich egg rolls, tightly packed like cigars. They're honestly pretty boring on their own, but when paired with the mustard and relish, they become very flavorful. The Honey Biscuits were sweet and flaky and the pimento cheese was amongst the best I've had. I didn't try the Brisket Lasagna ($27), but those that had it, liked it. The Roasted Chicken ($27) was the star of the show. My wife and I split it, and we both agreed it might be the best chicken we've ever had. Others at the table were asking to try it multiple times and we all unanimously agreed it was the best dish. Our overall experience here was pretty good! From the service to the food. I can definitely say, The Grove was a much better experience than Chayote. Based on the entree prices and comparing it to similar restaurants (like the Pinery), here it's pretty reasonable and they have many more options. I will say for some of the food, they can be tweaked a little. For example, we ordered the crab cakes. Crab itself is naturally sweet and for the cakes to be garnished with a mango salsa, it was sweet on sweet. Also, the cakes sat in mayo as a base and there was just way too much of it. For my entree, I ordered the trout which was pan fried really well and you can taste the fish. It wasn't fishy at all. The only critique I have is that there was way too much sauce on the trout. For an appetizer, two drinks and two entrees for $120 (not including tip), not bad. Definitely worth a try. read more

The Grove Bar + Kitchen replaced the former Chayote Barrio Kitchen (which, sadly, I never got the chance to visit). Chayote was a Latin-infusion spot that focused primarily on Latin-inspired cuisine. The Grove Bar + Kitchen has more of a scratch-kitchen vibe, focusing on unique flavor profiles/pairings. So, the menu is definitely more catered to the more adventurous palate, but they do offer some staples for those who like the "classics." Being as I have yet to eat anything beyond an appetizer and desserts here, I won't really speak on the food since it is not an experience I've fully had. However, I do really enjoy their Rosemary Citrus Olive Oil White Birch Popcorn (a bar snack they offer). As for their cocktails, I can say I do enjoy their cocktails as well. They really push the envelope with their cocktails, so the experience is always a unique play on original classics or a fun exploration of something you've had before. Their wine offerings are also really good. As for their desserts, some of them left more to be desired. General thoughts/observations include: (1) Parking is a chore, as this spot is located in Winter Park Village. May the odds be ever in your favor finding parking. (2) Pricing is on the higher side (for food and drinks alike). Try to catch them during happy hour to get a little bang for your buck. (3) There is ample indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. (4) Staff are super kind, and service is good (for cocktails - again, I cannot speak to food as I have yet to really try anything from their larger menu). Overall, I can say I enjoy The Grove Bar+ Kitchen. On my next visit, I will be sure to try out more of their food, as their menu always intrigues me. read more

This place takes over the former Chayote Barrio Kitchen, which leaned more Latin while this place aims to base their culinary offerings on the diversity of the Florida kitchen. Decor and vibes are nice, we came on a Friday early evening with our toddler and baby and it felt family friendly and welcoming for us. Ordered the croquettes, the Carbonara pizza, and the risotto which we added chicken to. The first two offerings were decent, the risotto was definitely the highlight of the meal. Prices are reasonable, food is decent, and the price isn't overwhelming. For Winter Park Village, this is a solid addition to the various offerings in the plaza at a more affordable price point. read more

This restaurant is very impressive upon entering as it is very sophisticated and clean. It initially gives a drinks and conversation vibe which was great for our girls night. We were seated quickly as the restaurant wasn't busy and our waiter was very attentive throughout the evening. I wasn't overly impressed with the food as it wasn't very flavorful and seemed a bit pricey for what you get but the drinks were good. Went for magical dining with another couple. For the $60 menu, I would not recommend. Interior is nicely decorated but that's where it stops. I ordered the mushroom risotto and my fiance ordered the ribs. The cocktails were delicious but the service was extremely slow and the food was good but not great at that price point. The manager noticed it was slow and came around to us to get us the check but then never returned and we didn't see our waitress for upwards of 30 min during our meal. 3/5 since we had an okay experience but paid close to $100/pp with a drink and a tip. Overall, we had a good experience at The Grove! As a huge fan of Chayote, I was initially sad about the rebranding, but I was excited to hear that they were keeping some of the iconic menu items. Since it was my first time at The Grove, I decided to try all new dishes instead of ordering the Chayote favorites. Everything was good, but unfortunately nothing completely blew me away the way Chayote did, so I think I'll need to come back and try some of the dishes they carried over before making a final judgment. The steak was cooked really well, but the yellowtail wasn't prepared the way I expected. It almost had a chicken-like taste and was also pretty cold(I was shocked this was the waiters favorite). The cheese croquettes were also on the colder side. We came on a Tuesday when the restaurant was pretty empty, so I was a little surprised that some of the food seemed like it may have been sitting for a bit. The meal saver was the Mac and cheese, it was hot , creamy, so rich and really flavorful. On the positive side, the aesthetic is beautiful and our waiter was amazing, attentive, friendly, and really made the experience enjoyable. Overall, I still think The Grove is a great addition to Winter Park Village and definitely worth trying. I'll be back and next time I'm planning to go for some of the Chayote dishes that made the transition! read more

The Grove is a new restaurant that used to be called Chayote - they changed the restaurant to be more inclusive to flavor pallets. I know Chayote was a pretty pricey restaurant and sadly I never got to experience it so I was excited to experience The Grove with some of my other foodie friends! I will say overall I was pretty disappointed. The menu is pricey, and I'm just not a fan of menus that make you order the protein and you have to add on sides to make it a complete meal. We started with the cheese croquettes- these were delicious! We all really loved the jam on top! We ordered the yellowtail to share, and I was really excited about this dish but I had one bite and I couldn't even have another bite. There's something about the texture and flavor that wasn't good - probably the worst yellowtail I've ever had. The pumpkin salad was good, nothing to write home about but it was a unique dish! We then decided to pivot because the fish was not good, we went with the steak, mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese. All really delicious options! The steak was cooked beautifully, the mashed potatoes were creamy and the Mac and cheese was the star truly, so creamy and cheesy with bacon -- yum!!! After the meal we decided to get the croissant bread pudding for dessert (suggested highly by the waiter). I was really excited for this as I love croissants! This was an absolute no for us, so bad that I had to send it back and I don't ever do this! The flavor and texture was quite odd and the dulce de leche on top was cold and felt like the way it was plated was straight from a tube. It wasn't appetizing at all. I came for the first time for dinner the other night. The restaurant is very spacious and well decorated with a citrus section. Our server was helpful and the menu had a great variety of dishes. The drinks were tasty and pretty and the food came out quickly. The Caesar salad was great and we didn't realize it came with prosciutto. We especially loved the carpaccio and short rib lasagna. My wife and I were dedicated fans of Chayote. We absolutely loved the food and the service every time we visited. We hated to see them rebrand, but we were excited to give the new concept a try. Unfortunately, this experience was nothing like what we remembered. The service was subpar. Our server was not very helpful, informative, or engaging. In fact, when he found out we were celebrating my birthday, he told us he was going to make it special. Unfortunately, he did the exact opposite. There was nothing memorable or special about the service, and it honestly felt like we were just another table. The crab dip was bland and lacked flavor. The pork chop, however, was absolutely delicious. The coleslaw was not anything special, but it was not bad either. The lasagna was a huge disappointment. It barely had any meat, and the brisket was just not good. I honestly don't understand all the influencer hype around this dish because it was a complete miss. The real star of the meal was the mac and cheese. I could eat that all day, every day. The aesthetics and atmosphere are still fantastic, and the location is great. Parking can be difficult depending on the day and time. I personally will not be back, but I still think everyone should try it for themselves. I know it's the same chef running the kitchen, but it just doesn't feel or taste like the Chayote that my wife and I became such big fans of. read more

We came in for dinner and had a great experience! The restaurant is absolutely stunning with a well curated interior, beautiful decor, and fun seating. To drink, I got the house spritz. They no longer had the first drink I tried to order. The spritz was fruity and refreshing. For my entree, I got the carbonara pizza. The pizza was well presented and had a good ratio of toppings. It was on the saltier side, but I liked it. My boyfriend got the roast chicken with mashed potatoes and enjoyed it. It had a nice skin and the potatoes were super creamy. We wanted to check out the Grove because we knew how good Chayote was and were curious about this new evolution they made. We came here for dinner with my family and I would say ambiance wise very similar to Chayote, mood lighting was very date night kinda vibe and really modern upscale. I quickly realized this probably wasn't the type of restaurant to bring kids (under 5) to - I thought it would be more family friendly with the change to daytime dining and the new concept. Food wise - we got the honey biscuits (incredible!), I got the pork chop and my husband got the chicken (both came with mashed potato), both were good and unfortunately we had to leave early so we didn't get dessert although their options sounded amazing. Overall, it was good but I'm not sure I'd come back unless for the dessert. I'm curious what their stand out items are or what they'll be known for - is it the pizza? The burger? Saturday night we decided to try somewhere new and headed to The Grove Bar & Kitchen in Winter Park. Unfortunately, what started as a promising evening quickly went downhill. We were able to get two seats at the bar immediately, which was surprising for a busy Saturday night. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and our first drinks were served with complimentary popcorn. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. After finishing our first drinks, we sat with empty glasses while the bartenders seemed completely uninterested in checking on us. Even a manager walking by noticed our empty glasses and had to prompt the bartender to take care of us. Then came a comment that was completely inappropriate. I asked one of the bartenders about a drink he had just made, which was served in a very small martini glass. His response was, "Are you a size queen?" Regardless of how it was intended, that type of comment is simply unacceptable to a customer. We eventually ordered the beef carpaccio, which we shared, along with the Pink Trout and Yellowtail Snapper. Unfortunately, both entrées were extremely salty and, in our opinion, mediocre at best. We couldn't finish them and ultimately asked for the check. It's disappointing because I really wanted to like this restaurant. The atmosphere has a lot of potential, but good food and a beautiful setting can only go so far when the service is unfriendly and the customer doesn't feel welcomed. As for the tip, let's just say the bartender learned exactly how this particular "size queen" tips when the service doesn't measure up. Unfortunately, The Grove won't be making our return list. If the staff wants to see what exceptional customer service looks like, I'd suggest a visit to Hillstone. There's a reason they consistently get it right. read more

Came for lunch and ordered a Greek salad. It was small but very good. The salad came surrounding hummus, no pita or anything which was fine. The salad surrounding the hummus almost looked like it had no dressing on it. At least the plate seemed dry so I asked for some extra dressing. I also had ordered chicken for the salad which came on a separate plate so when I wanted to mix my salad I knew I needed the dressing. No problem the waiter said. He brought over a side and we finished. We get the bill and we see a $3 charge for ranch. Well that's weird nobody ordered ranch for their Greek salad. We asked and he said "we charge for extra dressing." Two things- 1. Never have I ever been charged for extra dressing when I have ordered a salad. 2. If you're going to charge $3 for a side of dressing tell me. The salad with chicken was already $28 so now $31. Would there have been an up-charge if I said dressing on the side because it would have essentially been the same thing. Would there have been an up charge if I said please put extra dressing on the salad? For a Monday afternoon when there are only 4 tables eating lunch it seems like a weird flex to make a few extra bucks. I have eaten there twice this week one with friends and the second with my wife after watching a movie. Both times we sat at the bar and interacted with Jacob who is not just a bartender but a seasoned mixologist as well. The food was exceptional and on our second trip we had a pizza which is probably the best I've had in Central Florida. The sour dough crust was exquisite.
