No baskets or carts available so we walked around as best as we could to check out this year's holiday displays. It was challenging to walk around with so many people in the Christmas aisles so I left to check out the rest of the store. After about 30 minutes and our arms filled with treasures, we obviously needed a cart so I went searching for one at the front of the store. Jackpot! Two carts returned so my daughter and I were able to comfortably move our things into one cart. It's a large store with too many fun things to look at and want. I truly wish there was a store closer to us. My receipt said my checker was Danielle W. She was exceptionally happy and filled with smiles. She was also kind enough to wrap our breakables before putting them in a bag. I appreciated her cheerful demeanor in spite of the huge crowds she must have been seeing all day. The store was fairly well stocked and clean in spite of all the shoppers. Hobby Lobby is such a fun store for gifts, crafts, décor and seasonal gems.

There are convenience stores with a similar selection. They have a selection of liquor, locked up on the other side of the aisle. The Safeway on the other side of town has a far more extensive selection and puts this place to shame. The only advantage here, is that their prices are less than Safeway. So they get that extra star. They haven't made much of an investment on the grocery side either since there is no fresh meat or seafood counter, deli, or bakery. There's a very small produce department and all of the refrigerated/freezer aisles are very short. To make things even more inconvenient, you cannot buy alcohol at their self check out. Looks like I'll be making that trip to Safeway afterall.

Hempz Original lotion (pre pandemic) was $10.99. Today, it retails for $15-$22. Grocery Outlet has maintained an impressive $14.99 price point. Did I need more? No; but IYKYK. Shout out to the buyer! My dietician recently made some modifications to my nutrition that require I increase my protein and fiber which has been tough. Grocery Outlet had a plethora of low calorie, high fiber, affordable options. From pastas, to snack bars, cheeses, granolas, veggie and animal protein, I was impressed with the variety of options. Speaking of variety..the abundance of sauces (I'm so mad I didn't grab the orange sauce!), fish, and wine, this location packed an indelible punch. I didn't expect to find such offerings in Vallejo (due to the size of the city, no other reason). And the store "DJ?" I had a time focusing on shopping when I wanted to breakout into a 2-step to Frankie Beverly, Gladys Knight, and Morris Day. We don't live in Vallejo but quickly decided this will be our (Vallejo) store when in town. Here is when the shopping experience went over the top. I picked up a couple mandarins that had stickers but no tag in the mandarin section. I assumed the sticker would reveal the price for the cashier..it did not. The cashier was kind, patient, keyed in several options, asked me did I see a price, I offered to go back and he said no, did what he needed to do and found the price. Oh wait but first..as it was my turn to be checked out, the cashier noticed the previous customer left an item. He greeted me, said one moment please, dashed to catch the customer and was back within seconds. I love to identify people by name especially when they've been kind and gone the extra mile. The cashier shared his name and I stopped cold when he said Sababu. I hadn't heard that name since I was growing up. I asked where his family is from and turns out I know some of Sababu's family. What a sweet, full, circle moment. A random store visit turned into a nostalgic experience. Sababu nodded and smiled in acknowledgement when I shared a couple names. I immediately called my baby brother to share the news. Great shopping experience, well stocked shelves, freezers, options for the entire family and budget friendly.

There's this famous Korean instant noodle called Tangled and they had them. So I grabbed 3 of them! I was so happy. Oh, I also got a Goody hair scrunci with 2 hair pins for less than $2 - perfect for Pilates ! But here's why I wanted to write my review, I set my phone down in the produce and left I there. I didn't discover I misplaced my phone until I was at the cash register. Thankfully I found a worker and asked her if anyone turned it in, she actually picked it up and put it aside knowing the owner will come looking for it! I was so thankful and relieved that an employee found my phone first and retrieved it for me rather than a customer taking it. Vallejo has good citizens in this town and despite Vallejo being "sketchy" and having a bad rapport on the news and media, its events like these that remind me all the good in this town!

However I quickly noticed lots of Clinique, Jo Malone and Origins. Three brands where I had good luck in the past. Fantastic there is stuff here that I can buy. The was enough Tom Ford (bad) that I scurried to the other side of the store. I spotted a lot of MAC. I never tried it but I've heard high praise. The sales were very encouraging. 30% off skin care, 40% off many items and 50% off gift sets. The gift sets were smallish items and looked like the sets they give you when you spend big at the dept. stores. These are just the right size for me to check out a new line. Customer service was attentive but not obtrusive. I ran across this tidbit. The cosmetics company store is owned by Estée Lauder. So all the cosmetics lines that you see in the store come from Estée Lauder or one of the companies that they own. Hope that helps you find the product you're looking for.
