This was incredibly spacious bar and incredible Sandlot and volleyball area. Went with some friends that have been here before. Walked in and was approached but two very drunk old men asking for our ID's ( they said they used to work there months ago....I laughed and pulled my friend away from them.) I let the bartender know as we were ordering but she didn't care that there were young girls being harassed by creepy men!! We stopped at a bar prior to coming and had zero issues, when I walked up to the counter to order a drink at Halftime the bartender ignored me, and was asking for both of my friend's ID's that were on the other side of the room talking to some people they knew. They happily gave her their ID's and one of them has an expired license, so she was using her passport ID. ( as mentioned prior this has NEVER been an issue anywhere else ) Every staff member that was on site came to verify it AND was using her debit card to match the name. They questioned all of us for 20 minutes before calling management and eventually the cops. During that time though they held on to ALL of our cards and took them out of site which made us feel VERY uncomfortable. I had asked for my debit card back and the staff were intentionally ignoring us and looking right past me as I talked to them. Extremely disrespectful. I placed an order for delivery as I have done in the past. Whenever I call I'm told that Spring Grove is out of the delivery area. I live in Spring Grove, but I am on the Johnsburg side of Spring Grove. And up until today, it's never been a problem when they look at my address. The rude girl that answered the phone told me that they would not deliver to me because I'm outside of the delivery range. I explained the situation to her and told her that I am 3 miles away from the restaurant. She then told me that they could deliver to me, but it would be an additional delivery fee. When I had asked what constituted the delivery fee, she told me she didn't know. I asked her how many miles you had to be away from the store in order to be charged the additional fee. Again, but with an attitude she told me she did not know. I asked her why I was being charged an additional fee if she couldn't even tell me what the fee was for. When I attempted to cancel the order, she told me that she had already put it in. And would not allow me to cancel the order. What showed up to my house? A raw pizza. A pizza that is not edible . Halftime is our favorite pizza joint in the area. We normally order pizzas for delivery from them. The estimated time for delivery they give you isn't accurate in our experience, but sometimes it's quicker than they say so you can't argue with that. They have a pretty wide menu. We normally get a thin crust sausage pizza which we always enjoy. We also frequently order garlic bread or cheese curds for a side dish/appetizer. We went to Halftime a couple months ago to eat in and tried their BLT and ribs. The BLT has a ton of bacon and was good. I wish their fries had more salt or flavor. My boyfriend loved the ribs he ordered. We also got a couple of pitchers of cold beer. The service we received wasn't great, so I'd recommend just ordering take out or delivery and enjoying it at home. I am disabled and was unable to get into the restaurant , they have a ramp but unfortunately no one shoveled it and I forced myself through the snow. a nice man helped my husband and I get in and then when we left he stayed around to help us get out safely . Decided to come to halftime bar & grill tonight to watch the UFC fight and enjoy a pizza. Within less than 30 minutes, I was sadly disappointed by the service and atmosphere. We went to a beautiful table outside to watch the fight on a perfect view TV. One of our friends went inside to order a pizza. When approaching the inside bar, it was quickly noticed that the bartenders were chaotic and very unorganized. After paying for the pizza a the bartender gave me my card back along with my pizza ticket... which I was very confused by. I stood there for another 5 minutes waiting to flag the bartender back down. When she finally came back around, I informed her that she game me my food order ticket and asked if she was supposed to do something with it. She laughed and said "oh gosh! Thank you, I don't know why I gave you that.. I have to give that to the kitchen. Sorry!" After 1 hour of waiting for our pizza, a bus boy came to clean our condiments off our table. We explained that we still had not had our pizza yet and asked if he could go check on it. Ten minutes had passed, but the bus boy never returned. Another bus boy walked passed and we asked again if he could check on our pizza. 5 minutes passed and yet again, that man never returned. Finally, we flagged down the bartender who took the original order. We explained the situation and our current frustration. She stated the pizza had likely been given to another table and retook our order. As our patience began running thin and our hunger grew, we asked if there was a way to get an appetizer on the house or some type of compensation for waiting over an hour for a pizza that was never coming. The bartender advised us that she could get us one free drink on HER DIME. That no free appetizer or discount on food would be considered. She continued to blame the food runner and said she didn't make a mistake and for us to "just stop it now. That's enough". What horrible service and treatment all around. We've lived in Johnsburg almost 4 years now and Halftime is a staple restaurant in the community. We love the pizza, monthly specials and the familiar faces every time we eat there. This review is not about the food, but about atmosphere experience. Since the addition to the building, I've noticed just a couple of things that maybe Halftime could tweak to make it a 4-5 star review. There are no baby changing tables in either women's bathroom. This is a must if you're going to have a family friendly atmosphere. The other thing that is really keeping us away right now is the noise level. The addition is awesome but now that you have the larger space, the music and loud speakers should be higher by the bar area and lower non-bar area so that people can hear each other. We literally left the last time we were there because our ears hurt and we couldn't hear each other. We have not been back since and have only ordered take out/delivery. (and no we are not old so don't blame it on that lol) Also, there are so many high top tables that if the low-tops are all taken, where will people with families sit? Halftime needs to invest in the high-chairs that can be used with the high-top tables or switch out some of the high-tops to the low-tops. It's just the little things that will make the experience for your customers so much better. read more

I have never actually been to half times but I have order pizza from here for delivery about a half dozen times and it is probably one of the best pizzas in the area. Delivery can be a bit spotty, for some reason they can't always find my house and one time they didn't find it at all and I had to cancel my order but what other options do I have... slim to none for good pizza, delivered in Johnsburg. Let me give you a breakdown of how my night at Halftime went. I sit down at the bar at 7:30 on a Tuesday night. Easy enough, right? Well the bartender doesn't approach me until 7:40, 10 minutes later, to take my drink order. She takes my drink order, a Miller Light, and doesn't deliver it until another 10 minutes! Mind you, I've been here for 20 minutes now and just got my first drink. At this point I'm a little livid, but proceed to order food anyways. I ordered the Halftime Big Burger. 30 minutes later it finally arrives. Here is where the disappointment really sinks in... The only thing big about Halftimes big burger is how much of a rip-off it is! For $9 I expect a burger of substance, not something I could find at the local fast food joint. The patty was small, under seasoned, and over cooked. On top of that, my fries were burnt! As much as I detest this place, for some reason I keep coming back. I always find it that you have to wait a few minutes before anyone notices you have sat down.... My one star goes to take-out. We ordered a pizza the other day and it was so burned in spots that it was barely edible. This is the black stuff that gets stuck on the bottom of the pizza when you don't clean your oven...really black. We called in like any normal human being would do and were told that a new pizza would be coming in 20 minutes (this is already after waiting over an hour for our first pizza that was promised in 45 min.) Someone actually called a few minutes later and wanted the first burnt pizza back, which we didn't have a problem with since so no one touched it, but that takes nerve!!! Did they not believe us? I knew as soon as we walked in, this was my type of dive bar. Everyone looked happy, and the bartenders / servers looked as though they could double as heroin dealers. This place was great! $2 Miller Lite drafts, served in a plastic cup. Yep, lovin' it! My wife's heavily poured 7&7, $3 and some change. The biker guy next to me kept on raving about the pizza at Halftime. He looked like a legit food critic, so we ordered a large, thin butter crust, sausage and pepperoni pizza. Damn, was this ever a great thin crust pizza. Albeit a tad greasy, it was really that good. Outside seating. Yep, Halftime has it...and a full volleyball court, where there seemed to be some serious players. Friendly service, a really good thin crust pizza, heavy pours on liquor, and a $29 bar tab (pre-tip) put me in a giddy mood. If I'm ever in Johnsburg, IL again, I will definitely return.
