Bad experience!!! Our sons wanted to treat us for our anniversary so the company was great! However, the drinks took 20 minutes to get and we ordered 3 dz oysters at the same time and they never came. My Cobia was raw , couldn't even saw it with a serrated knife. They took it back to redo it and everyone else was finished eating. Finally the original 3dz ousters came and shucker tore those oysters all up, never experienced a whole tray of mangled oysters. They did comp them and gave gift cards for future use, must be used to comping people. Shame because the atmosphere was great! We went for lunch one afternoon and it was very nice. The food was delicious and the service was great. I had the Crab Corn Bisque appetizer and wanted to lick the bowl. My fiancé had the Gumbo and it was equally as delicious. The menu has something for everyone if you aren't a seafood fan. The charbroiled oysters were done nicely and the food came out quickly. We sat in a booth and it was nice and comfy. There is a large oyster bar to sit at too and plenty of tables. Came here the first time on a business dinner and the food was good. I tried the appetizer special which was pepper crusted tuna sashimi and it was delicious just a large serving. Couldn't take it home because I don't trust raw fish 24 hours later so I ate it all and just risked not finishing my main meal. Main course came, got redfish with crawfish cream sauce and it was delicious. Not too greasy, fish cooked perfectly, not too spicy. Fast forward a few weeks and I went on a date night with my husband and got the redfish again but this time it bathed in grease, the potatoes were so salted I downed glasses of water but I did adventure to dessert and the key lime pie was amazing! Okay so fast forward AGAIN another month and I went for my birthday with my in-laws. We ordered charbroiled oysters, gumbo and kids menus for the littles. The kids menu serving size were huge and came out first which was awesome. The oysters were delicious and the sampler was definitely the way to go! Overall it's hit or miss there in my mind. My wife and I went to this restaurant in Mississippi during our honeymoon. We looked up Restaurant's around us and Half Shell Oyster House popped up. We decided to go and have dinner. As we walked in we were very impressed by the new Orleans look and feel. We were so happy to see Half Shell Oyster House come to Covington. We went a few days after they opened. We sat at the bar and got that killer Mississippi brew Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan 20oz. Draft. It's so much better on draft then in the bottle. Staff still in training but the food was on point. Half Shell Oyster House has always been one of my favorite restaurants. The food is really delicious and is served pretty quick. The service is top-notch. The manager even came over to speak with us. The ambiance is great with a really lovely interior which looks like the French Quarter. When inside you will swear you are in New Orleans! Pretty good for a chain type of place. The smoked tuna dip was decent. Unfortunately, my party wasn't keen on the chargrilled oysters. I did however enjoy my salad, and it was a good size. Others in my group enjoyed their fish dishes and they were very fresh. The sweet potato side was like dessert but very delicious. The special royal red coconut shrimp were good, but regular shrimp would have sufficed if you're going to batter them up and fry them. Overall, we would probably return. I tried the Half Shell Oyster House for the first time. Because of the mane I thought it would be best to order a Oyster Po Boy . I realize that the oyster farmers are in a bind because of the opening of the Mississippi spillway in New Orleans in 2019 and that they lost much of the oyster beds that they lease and farm. The result is the oysters are very small and not available. That being said the process of cooking the oysters is where things failed. Oysters are best cooked at 375 degrees for not more than 1 to 2 minuted which produce a golden crispy outside and a juicy inside. Well the oysters we received were cooked to a corn chip consistency. Very dry, very small and not enjoyable. The rest of the pro boy was presented very well. If I ever eat there again I will not order oysters. Ambiance and decor was neat but when this close to NOLA, you have to really shine when New Orleans seafood is your mission. Omg. The Food was great!! I only have one teeny weeny suggestion... please put more butter sauce on the oysters. They were great but they were also super dry. And they were tiny. If I'm going to pay over $20 for a dozen oysters, I'd like a nice ratio decent sized oysters. I had to send for more butter. That helped. Even with this, I still give 5 stars because, other than that... EVERYTHING was great. The red fish is Amazing. The fried green tomatoes are good as well. We ate at the restaurant in The Hardrock Hotel. The place was clean, staff friendly but service was slow. They should be ashamed of themselves for selling oysters that are so small at the price they do. You can buy oysters in a can off a grocery store shelf bigger than the charbroiled oysters we were served. Ate here tonight for the second time since it opened. My first experience wasn't to good it was shortly after they had opened the waitress spilled a full glass of tea in my lap then complained about being really tired from working a double shift and expressed how she didn't what to be there. Service was obviously bad food was ok. Tonight some friends wanted to eat there so we decided to give them another try. I had decided to get a glass of wine while deciding what to eat. We were a party of 6 our waitress tonight wasn't to friendly from the start and seemed somewhat impatient. We ordered dinner I ordered the half oyster salad with a cup of crawfish bisque. The bisque and dinner salads came in a timely manner. It took rather long for our meal to be served, the wine was delicious but our waitress was inattentive and I didn't get the opportunity to get another glass(20 minutes) before our entrées were served. When our entrees were served I ordered another glass of wine but never received it nor did we see the waitress again until I had completed my entree. The manger stopped at our table with a courtesy check asking if everything was good, I told her that the entree was excellent but I really would have enjoyed it much more had I received my glass of wine. She apologized and offered me a free glass of wine which was very nice but I wanted it with my meal not after it so I refused it. She apologized again told me she would remove my $9.00 salad from bill. Everyone else finished their meal with once again not be attended to. Shortly there after our waitress appears with our bill without ever offering coffee or desert and then disappeared before we had the opportunity to ask. I went to the manager and she apologized again and sent the waitress back to take our coffee and dessert order. Can't really complain about the food it was rather good just a second bad experience with service. I hope they improve their service staff if they don't it will certainly cost them customers. Oh my gosh, this was our first time here. My brother wanted to go there for his birthday. The restaurant is wonderfully decorated in French Quarter style. The food was delicious. We had the marinated crab claws which soaking in a delicious garlic butter. They even give you French bread to soak up that delicious butter. My mimosas were excellent as well. My sister in law and I had the eggs Benedict which were delicious. My mom had the banana foster French toast which she almost finished. Our server Ashley was wonderful. Being I've only eaten here once since they've opened I'm gonna go easy......I walked in around 3:30 for a late lunch and sat at the bar which I instantly felt uncomfortable at, so I decided to stick it out as I was hungry and heard good things about their food. For starters, I'm sitting at a bar I don't need extra plates or an oversized menu, I felt this was a bit much for sitting at the bar itself. The staff behind the bar was very nice, friendly and tentative. I ordered a cocktail, the Caribbean Long Island, not to bad. I then ordered the Seafood Alfredo with a side Cesar Salad. The salad was brought out first within 5-7 min after my order was put in, the salad was good but very small....hopefully all their sides aren't that way? As for my main course, pretty on point! Lots of seafood which was nice, the only thing I'd change is the bread, it was 2 little thin hard pieces of garlic bread. The garlic bread that is served with the Oysters would be much better! My wife and I walked in and hour before closing to grab a late dinner. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by the host our experience was amazing!! Our waitress Victoria was friendly, knowledgeable, and attended to us like we were her only responsibility. Me being a people watcher, I couldn't help but notice that each and every employee carried themselves and performed their duties with the utmost professionalism...(even less than an hour before closing, when most places the staff would be walking around like zombies after the dinner rush) Kudos to the manager and entire staff.......we will be back!!
