My son and I were on a guys trip for fishing. Unfortunately the weather sucked and the charters weren't moving the entire time we were there. We decided we'd go fishing from the pier. Not knowing what we needed we Googled the closest fishing supply store. Thankfully Half-Hitch came up. We had a great experience there, the young lady who helped us was polite and courteous even to our "tourist" questions. Bass Pro Shop was out of the bait we needed and directed us to the Half Hitch. The whole staff is rude, always treats us poorly. Every time my husband goes in, they never offer to help him, another time they made him wait at the register for almost 45 min because the cashier was chatting up with a customer. Another time, they spooled my husbands reel and didn't bother asking him his preference, they just assumed and not even 10 min after leaving my husband lost half of his line because of the spool not done correctly. And this time, the cashier just threw my husbands receipt and didn't even say thank you. Rude people, idk why anyone gives them good stars. We've met other people whose had issues with them. If you want to do anything good, the half hitch in Navarre has a great staff although it's small. read more

This place is awesome. Stopped by when I was in town for vacation. I was going to buy some live shrimp but they talked me into some cheaper fish bites (also didn't need a bucket which I didn't have and would have been spendy since they sold out of cheap ones). They probably lost $30 on the sale at least but they just wanted to help me. We have to keep places like this in business and support them over amazon. The guys also gave me all the tips I needed to fish from the pier. I may have paid 30 cents more than wal mart but the advice I got was easily worth its weight in gold. When in Destin I will definitely be going here as my first stop to gear up for fishing. read more

We stopped in to buy Gulf Rigs. Upon entering the store a taller heftier man asked if we needed help. We asked where the Gulf Rigs were and he quickly proceeded to belittle everyone in our group saying he had never heard of any such thing and acted like we were idiots for even asking. These rigs are commonly available at almost every tackle shop and sporting good store and even at the local Walmart. He then proceeded to tell us we needed to buy a certain rig that he recommended. We said no thanks and walked down the isle to quickly find the gulf rigs that the incompetent salesman belligerently told us he had never heard of. We came back to the checkout with a bundle of the gulf rigs and the same incompetent imbecile told us we would not catch anything using those and continued to try and belittle us we checked out. We have used these rigs for 15 years and know what we want and how to use them. We have shopped at Half Hitch for MANY years and never have encountered such unexperienced incompetent personnel until today. I know places are short staffed and are looking for help but hiring incompetent help does not help your situation and will cause your loyal customers to go other places especially when it is cheaper at the big box store. We are trying to support local shops but don't need to deal with incompetence at this level and being harassed while shopping. read more

First and last time customer. The item I ordered arrived broken, likely during shipping, which means the shipping packaging, a plastic Fedex envelope, was inadequate for the item. I never get good customer service here. The prices and selection are pretty good, but the associates usually just hang out around the register talking to one another. Just a bunch of order takers. On more than one occasion I've been the only customer in the store, and nothing. No greeting, no can I help you, no what are you going fishing for. Good customer service isn't rocket science. I live and work in Destin and fish every weekend, but this place is dead to me. I'm not going to beg a store to take my money. I like supporting local businesses, but I expect personalized customer service in return for my patronage. Heck, I can get minimal customer service, better selection & at a better price online. Don't bother coming to this tackle shop. Heaven forbid you ask them to go above and beyond for a local and repeat customer. I was stuck in traffic on 98, just needed some live shrimp - already knew what I wanted, not like I was just going to walk around the store and waste their time. I asked if they could stay open a few extra minutes after they are supposed to close at 6pm, I was literally just down the road. Apparently that was asking too much. I've been in there three times and the older woman and the younger woman had great customer service but the older gentleman has been really unpleasant every time. I went in two weeks ago and asked for a dozen shrimp. The gentleman grabbed my bucket and went to the back to get the shrimp. When he came back he set the bucket down on the ground at the other end of the counter and then rang me up. When I got home he only gave me six shrimp and two were nearly dead. I haven't been back since. I give this place two stars only because of the women that work there have good customer service. read more

Great store, great people, and great service. I could write a book about Half-Hitch (Destin), having fished here since 2004. But when someone I know needs something special for fishing...equipment, bait, information, or you name it...this is the place I send them. Some of their stuff is more expensive than Bass Pro, and some is less expensive. But in the long run, unless you're an expert and/or know exactly what you want and need, you're far better off going to Half-Hitch than any other store in the area. Fishing is an expensive sport...for some, damned expensive. If you're spending $200, $300, $400 in gas and supplies to get out to your favorite salt-water fishing spot, but you run to Bass Pro or Wal-Mart to buy "any old bait" or equipment, you need to have your head examined. If you only have one day in a month...or one day a year...to take your kids fishing, why risk failure for the sake of $2 bucks on the price of a lure or a spool of fishing line. Only idiots blow a rare opportunity to fish with the kids by buying cheap line, cheap equipment, or plucking "any old" fishing lure off the shelf at "Wally-World." The equipment is competatively priced. But the advice you get at Half-Hitch is priceless! When you spend that kind of money, time, and rare "fishing opportunities" to get "on the fish" you need an expert to help you make sure you CATCH THE FISH! Absolutely fantastic staff! My son and I were down for a weekend surf fishing trip with no idea what to throw or how to rig. We stopped in and one of the guys working walked us through from start to finish. Sometimes a local tackle shop can be an intimidating place, and not very friendly to inexperienced anglers.
