Need a tetanus shot after eating here! OMG so wish I wasn't convinced to try this food again! My family had it a few weeks ago and said they are now using white meat in butter chicken so I was convinced.. Big mistake!! I was impaled in my mouth with a piece of metal!!! WTH!! Look at the video I posted it's a hard piece of metal wire about an inch long and was in my 'butter chicken'!! The 'butter chicken' was in fact skewered pieces of tandoori chicken thrown in a orange colored sauce, looked and tasted nothing like butter chicken which should be slow simmered in the sauce not tandoori chunks, which tastes nothing like butter chicken even if it didn't have metal which cut open my mouth I would never order here again. Vegetable Favorites are the dal makhni (black dal) palak paneer aka saag paneer at other restaurants; mali kofta (verge meatballs); great rice pilaf. And the breads. Desserts are limited and I don't like most Indian sweets but the rice pudding is good. Very small serving though. Try the lunch buffet for a sampling of the variety. Whenever I'm out of town I find an Indian spot to satisfy my craving. This place got great reviews so I decided to give it a shot. I got the chicken tikka masala (spicy) and chill garlic naan to go. The guy heard "extra spicy" apparently, but my spice tolerance is pretty high so I didn't mind. However, the chicken was not spicy at ALL, and not sure why I was charged $4 for a small side of green chutney. I did like the quality of the chicken though, the meat was very tender, but the spice level was totally inaccurate. Second time, I got the biryani to go. I did request it spicy, and explained the mishap with the chicken. Thankfully, the food tasted much better the second time (spice levels on point), I also met the owner who was incredibly sweet. In conclusion, this is probably going to be my spot for the next few months and I highly recommend eating here! read more

If you like Indian food I think you are going to be very happy at Haldi Chowk. Of the many Indian restaurants in the area, they offer the most inventive menu. And it's no wonder, actually. The owner (Deepak) is a friendly fellow who is carrying on his family's interest in the restaurant business. The recipes are his family's and the dishes do seem to be more flavorful than most other Indian restaurants I've been to. The butter chicken is terrific. The name "Haldi Chowk" roughly translates "Turmeric Crossroads" as turmeric is an important and popular Indian spice. The restaurant is on the smallish side, and the service can be a bit erratic because it can fill up quickly with large family groups. Be sure to make an early reservation and you'll be fine. The only issue I have with the restaurant is that it could use better ventilation. You'll find that your clothes smell of wonderful Indian spices the next morning. read more

Great job chef! With few choices locally I'm glad to find a great Indian bistro so close to home. The decor and table setting were decent the music which most Americans find annoying was at a low volume however the nasal screeching singers are hard to ignore. Maybe they can find some sitar instrumentals or just have some mellow contemporary tunes to play. The menu choices are well executed along with the plate presentations. My only gripe was the Lamb in our Korma was super tough yet the sauce was freakin' fantastic. The chicken Miryani was kick ass! One more negative was spice level, we asked for hot and barely got a tingle. This is standard practice for Indian joints, the kitchen always under spice, you can always add heat but you can't take it away. I like to season during cooking and if you add it at the end it tends to take over the dish. Make sure you stress you want it hot when they order and be adamant that you can handle the heat. Service was great! Prices are very good! They do take out but no delivery. I will return and try more dishes. This place is going on my regular hit list. YUM read more

I'm so happy that this restaurant is now in the area! I've been here for both the lunch buffet (which is a great deal, by the way) a while back and for normal dinner services. Being a vegetarian Indian food is automatically very friendly but they have SOO many options, even for their buffet. I'd definitely recommend the Paneer Tikka Masala! It was so good. I also love how they ask you the heat leave you'd like ( mild, medium, spicy, very spicy). Oh and the garlic naan is the DREAM! So good. The staff is almost overly hospitable as we had multiple people ask us how we were throughout our dinner. Overall great experience and I'll be back again and again! read more

However, the lamb kadau was too many bones and fatty cut of meat. The flavor of sauce was excellent and would order it with chicken next time or just order vegetarian. The chef greeted us and gave us a sample of chaiamisu which is tiramisu made from chai tea instead of coffee and made in house! A unique and delicious twist on an Italian classic! We were always attended to promptly and asked if we needed anything else. They were also very kind in answering any questions about dishes, so if you've never had Indian food before you should not feel intimidated. Super flavorful and cooked perfect. I had the goat curry with medium heat. It was super tender and went great with garlic naan to soak up the sauce. When ordering most dishes you get an option of mild, medium or hot. I thought medium was just right. Zero discomfort but a nice little kick of heat. My gf had the tandoor mixed grill which probably has enough meat for two to share, which we did. Everything also came with a large bowl of rice to share from. In an unassuming strip mall, lies a little gem of an Indian restaurant. There's a buffet every day, which is absolutely worth the visit alone. Their regular menu also looked incredible, with plenty of variety for all different types of diets. The buffet had butter chicken, which was meltingly tender, a dal dish that had hints of onion and clove in the aromatics, paneer with green peas in a chunky curry sauce, goat curry and chicken curry. To start with, I knew this restaurant had good food, but didn't know they were too good for catering. While I was shopping for good catering/food for my party, I was recommended this place hands down by my friends. This is when I went to see Deepak, the owner of Haldi Chowk at Middletown, NJ. Deepak was friendly, while taking our inputs, he politely recommended what's best given our requirements. He treated us like a family member and provided us the best price while tweaking the items per our requirements. He provided competitve pricing and offered catering to us more than what we wished for. There was no bargaining required. He communicated frequent enough throughout the time to ensure there are no loose ends. He sounded like a man who keeps his words, quality, service and satisfaction no matter what. At one point I wanted to add extra apetizers, to which he ensured what he planned is good enough and do necessary adjustments within that. I didn't need to add extra food. Come the day of event, he showed up on time with one of the best helper he had. He came himself as one of his crew member was not available. They not only took care of setting up in grand fashion what they brought, but also set up what I brought from outside for the party. While I didn't count on him for that, he took best decisions to set those things up to to make event look the best. He was on his toes with his crew all the time and made sure he is keeping the food covered, warm, stirred from time to time while also managing non-catered food. He made event look like his own and mingled with the family as if he is part of family/hosts. They didn't rest or eat at all for close to 5 hrs onsite! They made sure area is clean at all times! Once the event was over, him and crew helped pack left overs for the family and guests. He left the area in pristine clean condition. Everyone who visited enjoyed the food and catering. Lot of people already knew him and felt great that I had him for my catering food... As he is the best! I strongly recommend Haldi Chowk and Deepak hands down for catering needs!
