I had heard about floating for a few years from some friends. I was able to get an appointment a few weeks out on a Saturday morning (I wanted to go on a weekend morning). I started with the sauna followed by a float. I was a little overwhelmed as there is a lot of information to take in. After talking to the very nice, friendly and knowledgeable employee (I wish I remembered her name), she completely put me at ease. The sauna was wonderful. Still loving my membership at Halcyon Floats. Tried the Oasis tank this time and didn't like it as much at the other tanks. This one doesn't have any music or lighting on the inside, so I didn't get the full experience this go round like I would have liked. Oh well, it was my own fault I guess I didn't read or missed something when booking so just double check that you're booking the right thing. Anywho , gave the sound healing a try immediately after my float, which was in my opinion the same kind of relaxation you'd get from floating, except for you weren't lying in water. 25 minutes in my opinion isn't enough time for the sound healing, as I was just getting comfortable and ready to dose off when my session ended. Wonderfully pleasant experience. Dennis is awesome with a wholesome personality. Made the wife and I feel very welcome and catered to. I would like to float as often as I can. There are some people in the reviews that gripe about some of the dumbest things.. The occasional train overhead? You're in the city, come back to reality. I really think the world would be a better place if they experienced a sensory deprivation chamber on a regular basis. This facility is clean. I love how the rooms are sterilized with UVC. Had my first salt water float experience here two days ago. Very pleasant experience. The location, rooms and chamber were very clean. Place seemed a little short staffed so no one greeted me for a few minutes but r once they did it was a very quick and easy process. They provided ear plugs, towels, robe, shower slippers and shower gel. I cleaned off then got in the chamber and soaked for 90 minutes. I wish there was a 60 min option as well. The experience was very soothing and calming. If you have dry skin or any cuts use the provided Vaseline. I love that you can select your own music option from a tablet but I opted for silence. My sister and I got our first (and last) float at Halcyon Floats in early June. As I understand, they had just reopened in their new location on Front Street, and we were excited to try the brand new facilities, as we had heard great things about the old location. When we walked in, it seemed as if they were not actually ready to open. There was nobody at the front desk, and there were bags of salt EVERYWHERE. The furniture in the waiting area seemed like old, dirty dorm furniture. It took a few minutes of waiting in the front and shouting "hello?" before we found the one employee working that day, who was apparently finishing the pod prep in the basement. He asked us if it was our first time floating, to which we responded it was. He told us to have a seat in the waiting area as he began explaining the process from beginning to end. It was a few more minutes before we were taken down to our pods. The male employee who was working there then closed the massive storm door leading out to the street, and locked it. I'm assuming this was to give the space a more quiet, relaxing atmosphere, but it made my sister and I both feel on edge, as it was now just us two and a stranger male employee locked in a building together. The stairs leading down to the new pod area were dirty, and covered in bags of salt taller than I was. It gave off a very unpolished, and unfinished vibe. The pod rooms are all located on the left when you get to the bottom of the stairs, and the employee walked us into a pod room to explain the deal, and from the moment I stepped foot into the room, I was uneasy. It was the size of a small bedroom, and included a little shower head hanging off the far wall, a dorm style cart with half used bottles of generic brand soap and shampoo, and a small cup with used earplugs in it. Closest to the door there was a bench with dirty, used looking slides, an old, dirty looking white robe, and an old scratchy towel. Not at all what I would expect for the prices we were paying for the float. Luckily my sister and i had packed our own sandals and towel. The float tank itself was not the beautiful, in ground pool that we had seen on the website, but rather looked like a giant industrial freezer sticking out of the ground on the left. The employee unlatched the door for us, and we looked in to see a smelly, 6 inch full bathtub with what looked like dirt and debris floating in the bottom. The lights were still on inside the pod, and I could see mold and limescale on the walls and around the handles of the (supposedly) brand new float tank. At that point, I left my sister in her room, and went next door to my own where I prepared for my float. I rinsed off, waited until the last second to take off my sandals because I didn't want my feet to touch the clearly unclean ground, and got into my immersion tank. The water was not warm enough to create a sensory deprivation experience, I just felt like I was floating in a shallow, cold, bath. I could hear the market frankford rattling above me each time it passed, even with my earplugs in, but honestly it was a welcome sound because I was so creeped out by the room I was left in. After about 15-20 minutes, I was not enjoying myself, and too upset to even think about continuing my float. I got out, rinsed off, and got changed thinking I would sit upstairs and wait for my sister to finish her relaxing 90 minute float. When I checked my phone, it turns out she had the same idea, and also got out much earlier than what we had paid for. We both ran up the stairs and out of the building thinking about how it was one of the creepiest, least relaxing experiences we had ever had. I understand that this was a new location, but if you are not ready to open, you should have simply pushed back the grand opening. The facilities were dirty, the pods were not "spa-like" whatsoever and the atmosphere was creepy. Unfortunately, I would not recommend. read more

For anyone needing sometime to unwind from the stresses of the week, floating therapy is the way to go. Finding out randomly about this place from Google, I was quite unsure what this random adventure would entail. By far afterwards my body appreciated this YOLO mentality and something I will definitely partake in more often in the new year. The space from this business is very cute and intimate, from the moment you open the door. The place itself has two rooms for you to book online from and very similar layouts in both. The room itself holds the tank, shower, and small area for your to change. Tank wise its pretty large and the water itself is filled up 10 inches with an Epsom salt solution. The amenities inside the room itself include ear plugs for your float in addition to a neck pillow and wash rag in case you get the salty solution in your eyes. For after the float, there is a robe available and extra lounge area that includes hair dryer, contact solution, tea, water, etc. Price wise the float is $69 bucks for minutes. read more

Cool experience! The staff here is extremely patient and knowledgeable. They're not dogmatic about what the proper way to have a sensory deprivation experience is and they provide different options for those who might not be comfortable with complete sensory deprivation. The experience ended up being a lot less complicated than I expected--no salt water in my eyes, no concentration required to stay afloat. Because it's Epsom salt water you're floating in, your skin and hair don't feel the slightest bit dried out when you're done. If you're not worried about getting salt in your ears, I would recommend not wearing ear plugs, since they amplify the sound of your breathing and take away from the total quiet. It's nice that the space doesn't smell of any harsh chemicals, but it would be nice if there were other signals of it being a sterile environment since that isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of lukewarm water. Other than that, it's a really nice and relaxing environment I'm definitely going back. The monthly subscription plan came with three free flotation sessions, which is a great deal. read more

This was my first experience with float therapy. I came to this location because the one on girard is undergoing renovations. Overall, my experience was good, the rooms were clean, the tank was much larger than I thought it was going to be. I liked that the shower led into the tank so taking a shower before/after was seamless. After my session, I went back to the lounge area to go get some water and when I was walking up to the front I heard a lot of noise coming from the room I was in. I poked my head to see and the water in the tank I used was being flushed out - great to see that they are keeping everything clean and are consistent with what they say on their website. I will say that I didn't get as relaxed as I thought o was going to. I had some research prior and people mentioned it was super relaxing and introspective. I think it takes a little practice to learn how to relax and I chatted with the guy upfront and he agree. He also mentioned the first time can be a factor too. I definitely want to go again - the following day I felt great and my skin looked amazing. I'm going to wait until the girard location is finished being renovated which will give me time to practice relaxing lol. I do not recommend this place. The float took place in a basement and Halcyon is right next to the el. Every time a train came by I could hear it and feel the vibration. It was creepy and to be honest I couldn't wait to leave, despite my best efforts to enjoy the experience and relax. I would try floating again but never again at this place. No one greeted me upon arriving and I found the basement environment where the float tanks are located to be uninviting. Nothing about this experience felt welcoming or trauma informed. Floating is an experience I think everyone should try for relaxation. I picked this location because the tanks are larger than the other location and I wanted my first time to go smoothly. When I first came in, I was greeted by a friendly woman who throughly explained the process to me. She didn't rush me and let me ask any questions. It was really nice because during the process I didn't have to think too much because everything was explained to me so well. I was also explained that I could leave the door to the tank open or closed. I could leave the lights on or off. I could do whatever made me comfortable. I turned the lights off and shut the tank door because I wanted the full experience. The tank was in my own room along with the shower, so it didn't matter if I left the tank door open or closed. It was very relaxing. There is 2 hour parking out front, but since it was my first time, I parked in the all day parking and had to walk a block. I didn't want to be stressed out during the experience thinking about getting a parking ticket. If you aren't in a rush there is a lounge area with tea, water and snacks. I didn't have the same experience as Lisa Simpson, but I figured it the Golden State Warriors can do it, so can I! read more

Not that I have a huge breadth of knowledge and experience regarding sensory deprivation tanks, but I have to imagine that halcyon has it perfected. The space, while very small, is very relaxing. I appreciate the little tea area as well as the amenities for post float, i.e. Blow dryer, hairspray, etc. I've floated by myself and with my boyfriend and both are very different experiences. By yourself is so relaxing and quiet it is almost trippy. You emerge from the tank with a new lease on life and completely carefree. When floating with a partner it is more of a bonding experience, but you don't really reach that same nirvana since you're bumping up against another human the whole time. But regardless I still highly recommend both experiences! The staff here is so welcoming, kind, and professional. They make the experience a lovely, relaxing one from start to finish. read more

Just got back from my first 90 minute float. I feel incredible. The employee went through all the steps and answered every question I had. Made me feel relaxed and she wasn't just trying to get me in and out. My job is a very stressful one and I was recommended this by a friend. The first 10-15 minutes was a little weird but after that, nothing but a relaxing experience. I've tried to explain this to other people and all I can say it's it just so relaxing. It felt like I was in the tank for 6 hours and not a bad it dragged on for 6 hours either. You have the option to do it with the light on or off. I started with the light on for about 5 minutes, then turned the lights off. Definitely prefer the lights off. I'm not sure if I fell asleep or was just at peace and didn't know I was awake. Will be doing this multiple times, possibly even once a month if I can read more

First time at location. It was nice and relaxing. I dozed off a few times and then bam it was 90 minutes. The room was attached to the shower. They suggest ear plugs to keep the salt water out of your ears. I myself not being used to earplugs had a hard time putting them in. They give you a bathrobe and slippers and there is a room to relax in after the float. Beyond that once you get used to the feeling the time just flies. Suggest for anyone to try. They offer couples floats too it seems. I will considering returning if I need to recover my muscles from some strenuous activity. read more

Amazing experience. Booked my session & paid for it online.. greeted by name immediately as I walked in. Much bigger tank than the first time at a different place! They give you silicone earplugs that nestle snugly in your ears as to not get any water in them (definitely recommend putting them in BEFORE your shower!), once you're all clean from your first shower..gently step in the tub, lower the lid & let the relaxation begin! I have been wanting to float for a couple of years and the last night my boyfriend surprised me with a couples float for my birthday. It was truly such an amazing and insightful experience!! The people running the desk were so helpful and kind and I could tell that they themselves are most likely meditators and like to float because of their extremely kind and calm dispositions. I felt extremely comfortable and they explained everything very thoroughly and I never felt rushed. I also loved the whole atmosphere of the place! Then of course the floating was just phenomenal, I have never gotten into such a deep meditation so quick and I am honestly still feeling the effects of the float today and it feels so relaxing and present in the moment!! So I am a new Mom and anyone who has children knows that it is both amazing and exhausting. My husband and I sleep in the same bed every night, but sometimes I feel like we haven't seen each other in weeks. We were struggling from major lack of "us" time and I was totally consumed with being mommy. We needed something for us to reconnect. We tried a "couples float". I can not begin to express how amazing it was. We were able to not only, separately center ourselves, but also come together in absolute relaxation. I can honestly say that there was so much space that we didn't even touch each other. Then after finding personal peace we just brushed by each other in the tank, and in that moment we clasped our hands together and the positive energy that was between us was amazing. I think this is better than therapy. I had a few moments in there where I got a little freaked out, but knowing my husband was there with me helped me stay centered. I felt safe, secure, loved and totally relaxed, it was like the first chance I/we had to take a deep breath and just really appreciate each other. I really loved this experience and will most likely be adding this to our personal time as often as we can. I highly recommend a "Couples Float" to any and all couples. If you need to reconnect or maybe just take some time to relax together and release the stresses of life, this my friends is the way to do it.
