For all of you curious cats wondering if it's the same Halal Guys as the food cart on 7th street, it is! I verified with one of the owners as soon as I came in. In my opinion, I believe The Halal Guys chain in Austin is better than the super famous cart in New York on that one street corner (no they're not the same chain as the one in NY). Most of my friends will disagree but here's my reasoning: - The sauce. The one in New York is the equivalent of ranch. But here in Austin their sauce is like a mayo/garlic which I find much more complex and complementary to the meat. - This is an actual mini resturant, so they have a larger kitchen space than the food cart. This yields more consistency since they're not cranking out orders for long line of drunk people, or for people who make preposterously large orders to bring back to their H-town peeps (ahem, you know who you are coughROBERTANDFELIXcough) - Their lamb and rice is my favorite. I watched them prepare an order. It seems like they reserve the fat drippings from the roast. Then when an order is made, they slice off the meat and pour some of the fat back into the lamb on top of the grill. I watched in awe as the lamb glistened and simmered. - They char their meats perfectly. I feel like the cart including the one in NY will sometimes rush the orders so you don't get the full potentials of the meat. - The combo is amazing as well, and I don't don't always care for chicken. Not to be confused with the Halal Guys of NYC. It's amazing. Got the combo and enjoyed it thoroughly. Big enough for one hungry person, small enough for a light dinner and a lunch tomorrow. What I like about the rice bowl is it stays fresh the next day-- a very important criteria for my take-out dishes. Come in at odd hours to avoid the thru-the-door line, and don't order the "fresh lemonade". Nothing special there. read more

Poor service! waited 30 minutes for an order that wasn't even really placed. When I asked the cashier she told me my order was up next and that they are making it right now. After another 10 mins and another 3 people getting their orders. They tell me "someone stole it and that can happen it's not our fault" I asked for a refund and took my business to kebabalicious. I feel like this is one of those 'too dank to be true' places, meaning that the low prices come from cutting quality in some way, like any fast-food place. I ordered the lamb on a salad and my friends got the regular lamb and chicken orders. We ALL had huge bloat babies after. Halal is great. I've had the combo over rice and a lamb dish over rice, maybe kebab. I preferred the combo over the kebab. I think the two come with different vegetables. I've heard you can substitute fries for rice for these. You can ask for extra sauce and the servers are accommodating. The portion sizes are huge and the food is always good. I've never been disappointed with halal. It can get a bit hot on crowded summer days. read more

NOPE. Accidentally ordered from here instead of Halal Gurus. Worst "gyro" I've ever had in my life. The meat was chewy, overcooked chunks of lamb--not the succulent gyro meat you'd expect. There was no lettuce. Just meat, stringy onions and a greasy wrap that left a weird burnt-sour aftertaste that's still haunting me as I write this. Great food for a great price! If you are especially hungry, here's a trick I learned from my friend: Get an order of fries and just add an order of lamb on top. It is like a crazy amount of food for only $5! Think warm crispy fries with delicious succulent lamb on top all smothered in sauce and ketchup. YUM! read more

I used to love this place until I got food poisoning. I was sick for 15+ hours after consuming the combination over rice, which is a combination of gyro meat and chicken. Afterwards I found out that two of my friends had gotten food poisoning here and then I went on yelp and there is another reviewer that had also gotten food poisoning. So I decided to call Halal Bros and talk to the manager...what a jerk! I told him how much I loved the restaurant but had gotten sick and he just said "I don't know what else you ate, but it wasn't from us", he continued to deny that I got sick from Halal Bros and he wasn't very nice on the phone. This is the best restaurant I've been to in my entire fucking life. The food is spectacular, the people are outstanding, and the environment is beautiful. I recommended a friend of mine to come eat here, and - I shit you not - their chlamydia went away within the next 24 hours. I am convinced this place is not just a piece of Heaven on Earth, but all of Heaven and its divine piety in every single meal here. Halal bro is my all time favorite! I always go for the gyro over rice with extra white sauce. It is a big portion for the price and the quality has been good every time I go there. Going to halal bros is a must if you're in Austin! Perfect place to go after sixth on a Saturday since it's open until 3am! When I went during this time, it wasn't too crowded! Usually if you go in the afternoon, parking sucks and the wait can be awhile. I got the chicken over rice combo with extra hot sauce on the side and it was so good! Portions are pretty big as well! This place sets the benchmark for halal food at a reasonable price in Austin. Reminds me of halal guys i tried in New York City across from Radio city music hall. I've been eating here ever since they were just a food cart downtown. I actually used to go downtown just to get halal bros. I always get my standard of lamb and chicken over rice. SO GOOD. I used to eat here religiously, but is it fairly greasy. I think their food is really unique and filling. An absolute must try. read more

Other than the renovations being done at this place, I would highly recommend this restaurant for people who want to get a good portion for a reasonable price. However, that is not the thing I will speak mostly about; I'll talk about their food :)). I ordered the chicken rice plate and it was sooo creamy and delish I wish I lived around a Halal Bros back home. An extra plus is that the meat is well-seasoned, juicy, and not dry. On the side is rice and salad (which added some "health" to the meal). For the people who are sensitive to any spice, the dishes are already naturally non-spicy. A separate sauce cup is given for those people who want that spice. If you are looking for middle eastern food in Austin you have to try this place. The food is flavorful and the owners are all very courteous. I have tried chicken over rice, lamb over rice and falafel over rice and they all taste great.
