The weather was beautiful, so we grabbed a high top in the bar area, overlooking a nice little pond behind the restaurant. The service in the bar was surprisingly good, despite the bar itself being pretty crowded and nearly every table around it being populated. The food was served quickly and they allowed us to customize to our liking (TIP: pay the nominal upcharge to replace your existing side dish to Brussels sprouts with bacon and spiced pecans! Or get it as a side to share) I had the Hickory Grilled Hanger Steak with mashed potatoes and a field greens salad, except no potatoes. The salad was amazing (it has dates in it for a sweetness to balance the sour of the dressing) and the medium rare steak was phenomenal. We each had a glass of beer -- the Pale Face Summer Wheat on draft. It is a classic German Hefeweizen and described as "malty with banana and clove flavors." I tested the banana on my first sip. It was a solid choice. The next day, we worked a 15 hour day without stopping to eat. By the time we finished, we were so tired that we agreed to return. I ordered the same steak and my coworker followed my recommendation. He agreed that this is the steak to order. (even if he ordered his more well done than mine). For the second visit, we ordered the bread pudding for dessert instead of beer with dinner. I suggest splitting the dessert. Don't get me wrong, it was fantastic, but was definitely shareable after a full steak meal.

What really sets Qamaria apart is the opportunity to experience authentic Yemeni coffee culture. The star of the show for me is the iced pistachio coffee. It is absolutely phenomenal. Rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced, it's unlike anything I've had at the larger coffee chains. In fact, it was so good that I've already been back a second time specifically to order it again. During my second visit, I also tried the coffee roll, and it was outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and the perfect complement to the coffee. It's one of those pastries that leaves you thinking about it long after you've finished. The staff has been friendly and welcoming on each visit, making the overall experience even more enjoyable. I can't have caffeine after noon. And I also have to watch my caffeine intake due to chronic heart problems. I got the hot cocoa. It was meh, honestly. They don't have any decaf tea. Disappointing. I also don't normally go to coffee shops anyway. So I can't fault this place for not having what I would drink. I am not their customer or audience or clientele. Instead, she was told she could only purchase one slice and, when she politely asked where the cake came from, staff refused to share any information. Restaurants are certainly entitled to their policies, but customer service and kindness matter. A simple explanation or a gracious interaction would have gone a long way. Instead, she was treated in a manner that left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed. I sincerely hope that what I can only assume is a $100 cake was worth the lifetime value of the business they are losing from our family of four, our friends and family. I also hope they consider that reviews matter, and people pay attention to how businesses treat people. Great food should be matched with great hospitality.
