My braiding salon! This place has such a warm, friendly, and inviting vibe. I've been here 4x in the last year and they take great care of me! The professionalism is outstanding. They are very gentle with my hair, and I've always felt heard with every request (tender-headed, little gel, etc). Unfortunately, I think this will be my last time returning here. The stylist, Diamond was lovely and she did a very neat job. My only critique of her work is that I told her i recently untwisted and washed my hair, and I clearly had fairy knots and she just kept pulling the comb through my hair instead of detangling from the top up so that was both painful and damaging. The service was decent and they were polite. Part of me not wanting to return is because it's too much of a commute from my side of Brooklyn. But honestly it's also because their size and pricing doesn't make any sense to me. Decided to try small Senegalese twist and right away I could tell that they charge different rates for small but really can only deliver "smedium". It was the same size as the first hairstyle I had done here and took twice as long, which to me isn't quite right if there's a difference in pricing. During the visit i'm sure she noticed me staring at the twists because she asked if I liked it a few times. But what can you say in the moment? It's a little embarrassing and awkward to be charged more for a style and then have to tell the stylists in front of everyone that they're not doing the job they were supposed to. And frankly at the pace she was twisting the smedium, I didn't want to risk getting stuck there at 4 AM by asking for a smaller size. I think the trend of hiking prices and delivering less is a trend among black salons in general right now that everyone notices so I won't say I don't recommend this place at all - just don't spend more money for small braids when the "smedium" (offering that sizing is also a bad sign that this is common with them) is the same size. As someone who also twists their own natural hair regularly, I know what small looks like and it just wasn't really giving that based on their own scale. Maybe if they didn't offer smedium, i'd believe that was their small. read more

I went in for Male Cornrows by Diamond and added a wash and trim to my service. I was very pleased with the quality of my hairstylist's work. She thoroughly washed my hair (and gave a bomb scalp massage) and trimmed and blow dried my hair afterwards. When she got to the braids she even offered me a cup of red wine which really helped me relax and set the vibe for me. I really enjoyed my experience and I'm thankful for Diamond for hooking me up with an experience that made me feel as good as I look haha. Definitely will be returning. read more

First time getting my hair done professionally and I'll definitely be back!! Went for a wash and blow and then box braids. Booked my appointment online and when I got there they were ready for me. Ney took care of me today and it was a great experience. She washed my hair very thoroughly. It felt really amazing. 5 stars for that alone! And then she separated my hair and blow dried it. And then asked what I wanted. I gave about a 15 second description and she got it immediately. I previously thought my scalp was tender but I think her hands were just more tender. No pain at all throughout. Braided my hair to perfection. Also got offered wine and snacks as part of the service. Got a glass of wine. Ultimately a very great experience and I'm looking forward to my next hair appointment. read more

I am loathe to write this review but I need to warn the sisters who don't play about their coin! For a while, I was a loyal customer of Kay's. But unfortunately, my last few appointments honestly left me flabbergasted. First, a "new" stylist (had obviously not braided before and was learning) butchered my hair right before a concert! NOT IDEAL. And I paid full price! But to her credit, Kay apologized and promised me a future discount. I didn't trip out on it. Cool. I come back, get my hair done again and ask about the discount. Kay says since she didn't personally braid my hair, she wouldn't be able to take the discount out of someone else's fee. It's your name on the sign!? But sure mama, whatever you say. FINAL STRAW: The last time I came in the stylist (Diamond) completely messed up my part. I was tired so I didn't notice, left and when I got home, peeped the damage and went back. Tell me why KAY and DIAMOND both caught an attitude? This lady tried to tell me "I liked it before I left." I said refund me or fix my hair. She acted like I was trying to rip her off ("We can take it out mama, if you don't like it") -- when I have given this lady hundreds and hundreds of my dollars over the years. She told me to come back to get it fixed. I asked for a time to come back and she didn't give me one!? She just sent me off... When I got home the second time, I texted her a picture of my part (attached here) and I guess she saw this review flash before her eyes because she finally made her stylist fix it. But they nearly fucked it up again. Della is the ONLY braider worth her salt there. She the St. Lucian one. Do yourself a favor and avoid this spot. They are delusional and have an attitude problem. Tell your friends. Kay, this review comes because you personally disrespected me behind stitch braids that cost less than 200 and acted like I was ripping you off when this was the shoddy work you passed off as acceptable. I got the smedium knotless braids in 1b by K. Love love love them! Super neat, not horribly tight, and appropriate length for me. The price is pretty high but that's the average now a days with most salons. She has someone else detangle & blow dry your hair (very gently!!) Which I appreciated. Also has the option of someone washing your hair there which is convenient. The salon is easy to find, clean, and comfortable. All the staff there including K are extremely nice & professional. Hands and people I will never take for granted. The vibe is nice. A small intimate place. A little homey but to each's own. As far as service, these ladies are professionals. Know what you are asking for and trust the process. They will finesse and accentuate any design if you let them. They are all very nice and experienced. Faster than most and more attentive than the rest. I probably went there once a month for 5 months for braids to start my hair growth journey and was beyond satisfied every visit. Gotten twists from K twice and both times they were great! She's super fast and the style was very cute; perfect length for me, very neat, not too tight but lasted. The price was pretty standard and didn't feel too bad especially considering the hair was included. She has a wide variety of color on hand which not a lot of shops do. I have been coming to this braiding salon for almost a year and I can truly say...K and her team are quite talented. I always leave pleased about my hair and before I can walk down the block, I've gotten several compliments about my hair. I've rocked faux locs, Twists, box braids, and K is full of creative ideas and suggestions on other ways to braid my hair. And if there is someone I would trust to try something different with my hair, it's her. Not to mention she gives a mean shampoo and steam. When she washes my hair I'm practically drooling. K and her team are knowledgeable about healthy hair and how to maintain it and that knowledge hasn't gone on deaf ears--since coming to her and using her oils (which she makes herself) my hair has definitely grown. Customer service here is top notch. I've experienced first hand K making sure every customer walks away satisfied. She consistently checks in as she braids your hair to make sure it's not too tight or she's tugging too much. A lot of braiding shops are more concerned about quantity (how many heads they can do) but she is more concerned about quality---a happy customer with beautiful braids and healthy hair.
