I've been going here to get my haircuts for the past year and a half. Being that I only cut my hair every 6 months or so, means that I've been here 3 times. I always make an appointment with Alice. She's very sweet and really listens to what I want. When I tell her I want to get a 1.5 inch trim, she'll cut it and show me the length. I absolutely hate it when hair dressers cut more than what I ask for. Alice takes her time and makes really good suggestions. Only negative review I have for this place is that it's very possible that you'll walk out looking like an HK pop star. read more

If you want someone that is just awesome with cutting hair, ask for Lam. He's awesome! My whole family is practically going to him at this point. When I ask him for a specific color I have gotten exactly what I asked for. Not a shade close but exactly what I asked for. If I ask him to not cut off too much of the length, he listens. A friend of mine who always has beautiful hair introduced me to hair.com, and I've been going back ever since for hair cuts and color treatments. Harry used to cut/color my hair, and did a fantastic job the few times he worked on it, but he no longer works there. I really liked his style and input for what hair style suited my face shape. Eva cut my hair this last time I went. I thought it was everything I asked for, and looked great in the end. They generally go above and beyond to style your hair if you tell them you're going to a wedding that day (or to Vegas - haha!). They won't go crazy with the product either, or at all, if you tell them you don't like product. I brought another friend here with me that last time to get our hair cut, and her hair turned out even better than mine! I don't remember the stylist's name, but he was fairly quiet/shy looking, spoke Cantonese. I will find out - I might try him out next time! Prices are fairly reasonable, I think. It generally costs $110 for a cut, color, 2 washes, and style before tax and tip. The only gripe I have is that they tend to pursuade/pressure you to do more to your hair than what you originally asked for (ex: ask you to color in addition to cut). Typical of Asians though. But if you are strong, then you'll be okay. read more

I came here Apr 2007, on a cold Sat. morning, right before going to a close friend's wedding. all I can say is that Joe (I think he's the owner) didn't do that great of a job on giving me an up-do... maybe they are better for color/cut, but definitely not that great for wedding styles. read more

I set an appointment with Joe since the other place I used to go (Mitri) was booked on Saturday. I'm used to go to Asian places to get my haircut and I expect the stylist to only use scissors. After getting two washes and a really great haircut I was surprised that it cost only $20. I remembered seeing a sign on the wall that says something like: "Haircut by random guy: $20" "Haircut by Joe: $25" When I called to make an appointment I asked for Joe, but I only got to pay $20+$5 for tip. Maybe it was because I told him it was my first time there. The cool thing about this place is that they use Sebastian's Clay, the one I've been using for 5 years, to mold your hair, and they sell it for $25 at the salon, the same price you pay if you get it online. read more

** UPDATE on Henry ** He's now at Focus Beauty Center (in the same shopping center as hair.com). Call the shop at 408.321.8888 to make an appt. I have been coming here nearly three years and tried almost all their stylists. I have found Henry and Alice to be the best, with Joe having both good and bad days. I do NOT recommend going to Lam. Unfortunately, Henry has left hair.com, and I don't have his contact info. (Joe claims not to know where Henry has gone or to have his cell number). If anyone has his info, please POST it here. This place is great for the layered cut; it will take almost exactly an hour if you're a girl with medium to long hair, so budget the time when you make an appointment. What the other reviewer said about Joe multi-heading it is totally true. Rarely will you get his full attention - even if you have made an appointment. I am looking for a new salon, but if you do decide to try it here, book with Alice. Women's cuts are generally $28-35 before tip. read more

Last sunday, I was passing by this place and had decided to give it a try because my hair was so messy and I did not make appointment with my own stylist. I got a lady that was called from the back, no introduction or conversation. She did smile and I think it was only because I was a quickie cut and maybe because she didn't think I understood Cantonese? If you are in Milpitas and your bangs are getting long, stop by here for a clean and quick trim. It is run by all Asian stylists and the clientele were Asians of all descent (Chinese, Taiwanese,Vietnamese,Indian, and mixes in between), so I would guess that they know their Asian haircutting stuff. read more

I handed Joe a picture of a Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Alba with their longer styles. I came out looking like a Hong Kong Rock star. I came in with a thick mane of hair and left with a very thinned out $40 Asian mullet. I think you get the picture. I gave pictures and guidance, and it seemed that input went out the door and the same auto-pilot typical Asian haircut came out. I think I would've come out with a Asian mullet even if I handed a picture of Michelle Obama. I've concluded, you may be happy if you want the typical super-fob, thinned out, layered wispy Asian hairstyle. Otherwise enter at your own risk, I tried to warn you.... DO NOT come here!! I would give this place NEGATIVE stars if I could. The owner of this place, who goes by Joe, is totally unprofessional, doesn't know what he's doing, and has a really bad attitude. I went to get a perm here about a week ago, and I chose to have the owner (Joe) do it. The rods he used were connected to this machine which generates heat electrically. He had the heat up way too high as I felt my scalp was almost burning. I complained to him but he was busy helping another customer so he had some assistant just place some pads between my scalp/skin and the irons. It helped a little bit but it was still hot and I was very uncomfortable the whole time. I never experienced this much discomfort during a perm before. When he was done, the result was average, and it turned out too curly (I specifically said I didn't want too curly). I went home and followed his instructions and didn't wash my hair until 48 hrs later. The night after I got the perm, I noticed some parts seemed burnt which had me already worried, but it wasn't until I washed my hair after 48 hrs that I realized the damage. Most of my hair, especially near the ends, were definitely burnt/over-processed. My hair felt very hard, dead dry, the ends would tangle, and had a very strong chemical smell. There's no shape at all, it was just a complete mess. I was really heartbroken because my hair was healthy before this. I had my friends and family look at it and they all say it's burnt. So then I went back to ask Joe why my hair turned out this way, and he kept insisting that there's nothing wrong with it and it was my fault. He keep on saying how he's a professional and he's done nothing wrong. He even admitted that many people have came back to complain about him, and repeatedly said he's definitely not giving me a refund. Not only will he not give me my money back, he wouldn't even acknowledge and apologize for his mistake. When I said that he had the heat up too high at the time and it almost burned my scalp, he told me I should go see a doctor instead. Can you believe this guy, what kind of attitude is that? I'm definitely going to report this place to the BBB and send a complain to the state. It's not even about the money anymore, I just don't think this guy should be touching anybody's hair. I have never met a hair stylist that treated customers this way, and he's definitely the WORST hair stylist I've ever encountered. read more

I'm pretty low-maintenance when it comes to haircuts: no coloring, highlights, or perms. I realized my hair was a little weak from all the chemicals from the spiral perms in the 80s and 90s, so I've kept it simple since: long layers and a blow-out and I'm happy. I found this place by way of a very BRAVE friend, Amy. Amy cut and colored her hair here a few days before she left for her WEDDING in Puerto Vallarta. Did I mention she just walked in that day last minute?? It looked great and she was happy with the results and the price. I walked in after work with no appointment and Joe asked what I needed and then gave instructions to a stylist. He re-emphasized the 'just one inch' trim with both me and the stylist. The stylist (Lam), spent a good amount of time trimming, razor cutting and layering my locks, followed by a quick style and some product. It cost $29 and my hair looked healthy again after a 8 month hiatus (laziness) from a haircut. Now, when you're in the back getting your hair washed, you might sense a slight odor of seafood warming in the microwave for a stylist on break in the way back. It smells like something my parents would heat up in their microwave, so I'm dismissive of it, but be forewarned. The rest of the salon didn't smell, though. If you need to pay more $$ for an upscale and name-dropper of a salon, this place isn't for you. read more

Boy do they take their time, well at least Alice did. So I walked in around 1 on a tuesday and booked an appointment for 2 but guess I didn't have to because the place was pretty empty. First I got my hair washed; that was so relaxing, wish I had someone to wash my hair for me everyday. Then Alice proceeded to cut my hair. She cut it exactly the way I wanted, never going too short. Took about an hour to cut my hair, but I'm glad she took her time and I was happy with the outcome. The place is trendier than other asian salons, but my haircut was $35, so the price isn't too steep. I'd recommend Alice, she's really nice and patient. went here again recently and my experience isn't quite the same as last time. but for the record I didn't pay attention to these things the last time. the hair washer that washed my hair used dirty towel and they don't seem to sanitize their combs, either. Joe parted my hair without even asking me about it and he part it the wrong way! The haircut is still fine, but I'm just not sure about this sanitary condition. came home and talked to my mom about it, since she works next door at the dental office and Joe cuts her hair, too. she said she had the same concern and actually stopped going there and suggested that I should not go again. arg! so hard to find a good stylist, and now I have to find another one. read more

I've been here few times for hair cut service. Joe seemed a serious hair stylist that he would prefer his customer sit straight on the chair and no cross legs while he was doing hair cut. I like that. One day I came here for hair trimming. From our conversation, Joe knew I was growing long hair for my coming wedding in few months. Then he suggested me to come back to the salon two months before my wedding to get the permanent wave service. He said, "It will give a volume look on your hair for wedding." Huh? I told him I didn't like permanent wave as I would be having an updo style and some temporary electric curl on that day would be fine. Then he said, "If you don't, you will probably need to wear a WIG on your wedding since your hair is too thin to do hair updo." What? I didn't ask him to do my wedding hair updo and I didn't even believe what he said. As I had taken some hair courses in the past and known that the length and volume of my hair were good enough for hair updo. But what he said to me still made me very upset. Every bride-to-be also wants to show the best appearance on her most important day. What this phony barber said really hurt a bride-to-be's self-esteem! How much is a permanent wave service? How could he say something so hurt in a way to earn you 1 or 2 more hundred bucks? That sucks. Beware, ladies! I've stopped coming "hair.com" and rather spent more bucks to an honest barber for better hair service. As I expected, my hair updo was perfectly done on my wedding! They could massage my head/hair a little bit longer, but I always love my hair cut, which is the important part. I always get my hair cut by JOE.
