I was trying to choose between Magenta and Purple for a specific shade I was interested in but Tracy let me know she could do/mix both! We went through the whole bleaching and dyeing process. They were really friendly and chatted with us a bit. It was funny and cute how they would turn my friend and I's chairs toward each other so we could talk face to face LOL. At the end, we needed to leave for an appointment with another friend so we asked that we come back another day for the haircut and they told us that was alright! I was busy with work for quite some time and came back a month later for a haircut with Tracy. She remembered me and honored the haircut (that I had forgotten I already paid for). William is a nice guy and keeps us adults engaged with friendly conversation while we're waiting, which makes the time go by (when you have to wait for 3 boys' haircuts)! I googled him, found out he now owns a salon called Hair Dimension, and left a voicemail asking if I could schedule a haircut today. 40 minutes later, he called me back saying I could come in at 6pm. When I got there, I was so happy that he remembered me! I showed him some pictures on my cellphone of what I wanted. I liked that he was very thoughtful and deliberate while cutting my hair and took his time with the entire experience. I told him that I wanted to color and perm my hair too, but he said my natural hair was already silky and shiny and I shouldn't change it. D'aww.. :) I was very pleased with my haircut, especially when he said it would only be $30! That's almost half what I would have paid at Ascend or Focus Beauty. Since I was already prepared to spend $60, I picked up a bottle of the Paul Mitchell Smoothing Serum and left a generous tip. I'll definitely be coming back on a regular basis and telling all my friends about him. tl;dr? $30 for shampoo, cut, blow-dry, and style. You can get your hair cut by Michael on a whim and not worry at all about how it's going to turn out. And it won't cost you an arm and a leg. He's a very easy going guy but meticulous with his work. He has good attention to detail and generally tries to look at the customer and give them a style that suits their appearance (face shape, tone, etc). I like chatting with Toni, as he remembers his customers and asks about things you talked about prior. We catch up and talk about life and current events. He's easy to chat with and the time passes by quickly. He's also pretty good with appointments. I rarely see him run over and you're stuck around waiting. He's consistently late to appointments, regardless of the day of the week or time of day. It's usually at least 30 minutes, and there was even a time when he was more than an hour late. The frustrating part is that he isn't running behind because he's still with another client. He'll be out getting lunch or something and come back with a drink while I've been waiting. I find this really irresponsible, especially when I'm paying $100+ for a haircut that already takes at least 1.5 hours. I don't mind the length of the appointment at all when it starts on time, but the additional wait makes it difficult to plan anything around it. I'm always stressed because I either need to be somewhere afterward or I'm coming in after work, and he's regularly not ready until at least 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. I think my last appointment was the final straw for me. I had enough time to take myself out for brunch and even do a little shopping at Pacific Commons, and he was still an hour late. I really like his work, which is why I kept coming back despite the delays, but I won't be back for a while.

I also found myself asking: Is paying $30 for a haircut, plus a $10 tip, considered fair these days? I looked into it because I wanted to make sure my expectations were reasonable. From what I found, those prices are within the normal range for a quality haircut, which makes it even more disappointing when the results don't match the price. I remember when getting a clean, straight fade wasn't something that felt difficult to find. It makes me wonder why this shop has such a high rating. Are those mostly longtime regulars?
