Our bridal party was here for our updos during the memorial Weekend. Each updo costed about $55. Staffs: 3/5 it seem like it was very important to show them in advance what your updos will be so they can pair you with the right stylist. It doesn't seem to be very organized. I have about 3 stylists asking me re: the updo I wanted. And 2 stylists thought they'll be doing my hair. I'm confused. Hair quality: 3/5 showing him the picture and I did mention that I wanted every pieces hair to be in their place and it need to hold since this is a beach wedding. I'm a bridesmaid. I'm there to serve the bride, I don't have time to fuss with my hair. But it drop 2 hours later. Yea for the price. And their customer service is great put it doesn't hold up., so I will have to try someplace else if I need my hair done. read more

If I could give this salon less than 1 star I would. I went there there 9/22/16 for color, highlights and an extreme choppy cut. Bottom line, $157 later, I was beyond disappointed in EVERY WAY. I had over 35 pics on my cell phone to show what I wanted but truly felt the hairdresser, Gwen, did not see or listen to me at all. After she colored and highlighted my hair she cut it, including all the highlights. I never went to a salon before but phone 25+ girlfriends that did. All said "first you cut, then you color". I even expressed this to Gwen but she assured me this is the way it's done. It was a major horror for me. Besides the money I spent, I left with medium brown hair and EVERYONE said "It look fantastic". I woke 6am 9/22/16 with red hair. WHAT??? I cried all day and was actually going to shave my head. Finally I called and spoke to the owner to complain. She would not allow me to talk until she was done, about 20 minutes and my questions were very limited. She told me there was a money back guarantee, not money wise but i could come back as many times as needed to fix my hair. I can't fathom going to a salon one every 3 weeks or possibly more often to "fix" my hair. There are so many negative things to comment about but I feel understand, DO NOT USE THIS SALON! I'm visiting the Myrtle Beach area for a month and found myself in need of a hair color touch up. I read several reviews on Yelp and this salon had good reviews so I thought I'd stop by since it was close to where I'm staying and see if they had any available appointments. The receptionist Bradley was pleasant and said he could schedule me with Paula the following day at 3:30. Great I thought, let's do it! He did inform me that it would be approximately $66 to $80 I believe he said for a color and cut. I said I really just needed the color and thought to myself if I enjoyed the visit maybe I'd have her give me a trim as well. I arrived the following day about 15 mins early. Paula came out asked me what I wanted done to my hair and brought over a color swatch she felt that matched my hair color. Didn't ask my opinion at all and I just expressed her that I didn't want any reddish tones in the color. Pretty basic consult. She went in back mixed up the color quickly and returned to start. I was looking forward to a relaxing afternoon and maybe a little conversation about the area but she was gruff and didn't seem to want to talk very much so I didn't say much thinking maybe she was tired, having a bad day etc. After she finished she set a timer and told me 30 mins of processing was needed. About half way through I went to the restroom and saw that I had color all over my face. She tried to get some of it off later but it was still on there when I left. Before my color was even done processing she asked me to come over to the the reception area and pay. Hmmm... strange I thought, but perhaps they were closing out the register? It was only 4 pm but I didn't protest. I was charged $88 for this very basic service that I just wanted to be over at this point. I was not enjoying my visit whatsoever. Paula hovered over as I was paying and I felt like she was looking for her tip at this point. I thought I'd leave her a nice 20% tip (which I did) and perhaps things would improve. NOPE! My mistake ! When I was finished she brought me to an uncomfortable sink and scrubbed my hair like I was a filthy farm animal. My goodness it hurt, I think she washed it about 3 times while huffing and puffing the whole time and hovering over me smelling faintly of smoke. Just what everyone wants to smell at a salon right? She quickly ran some cheap conditioner through my long hair and left it on for a whopping 30 seconds. At this point I closed my eyes and was wishing I was anywhere but here! The beach, the dentist, the DMV...anything would have been better! That's when she balled my hair up and wrung it out like a wet mop! Like three times! No delicately blotting it with a clean towel here like the many other salons I've been to. She then clips my hair into a ball on top of my head and plops me down at old fashioned hair drying station that looked like it was out of the 1940's. All this so she doesn't have to spend an extra minute on me I guess. After about 20 minutes of the helmet dryer she finally brings me over to her chair for some pampering...lol. She blows out the rest of my long curly hair that I normally wear straight with no products or even a round brush, just her very hands then asks me if I want her to flat iron it. Ummmm, yes please if that's not too much to ask for a $100 service! I was literally biting my tongue at this point and planning my escape from this afternoon of torture. She then asks an assistant to get a flat iron and crank it up to 450 degrees then proceeds to straighten my hair with that, again no protective products or any real care are offered. She parts my hair down the middle (doesn't ask where I usually part it) and walks to the other side of the salon. No finishing touches with the cheap hairspray on her station or even a goodbye thanks for coming in today, would you like any products? I assume at this point she's done with me and I'm free to leave this dirty dusty hellhole. To add insult to injury my roots have a reddish tone to them that was my only request to avoid. I'll have to have fixed when I return home. Very strange experience! I have always enjoyed my many salon visits in many different areas I've lived or visited. If you're ever in the Myrtle Beach area and need a simple color touchup do yourself a favor don't visit Hair Safari. Drive to the other end of the plaza, stop at Walmart and get a box of Clariol hair color and save yourself $100 and two hours of misery! read more

Being new to the area, I thought I'd try Hair Safari after reading a couple of good reviews. I had a 2 PM appointment for color and trim. I arrived promptly and by 2:45, I still hadn't been seen by the stylist. I went up to the desk and said that I couldn't wait any longer. The receptionist said 'I told her you were here.' and half - heartedly apologized, asking when I'd like to re-schedule. I understand that clients run long, but to have no one even approach me to update me on when I'd be seen was totally unprofessional. There are dozens of other salons in the area. Visiting myrtle beach and looking for a colorist to fix highlights that my daughter had put in her own hair! She looked like a pumpkin. Gwen was very quick to begin work and yes I was skeptical because I didn't know her work. We showed her a picture and to work she went. Now my daughter has hair that's like a horses mane. This place does not even deserve 1 star. I called before going to salon to get an estimate for hair extension removal, application, and full head color (just my own hair). I provided how many extensions I currently had in since cost differs depending on the amount of hair, and this wasn't my first time having my extensions removed and put back in. The staff (LJ) quoted $90 for the extensions and $88 for hair color. Staff stated they had extensive experience working with tape extensions and have no problem doing what I needed done. I then went ahead and made an appointment. Upon arriving to the salon and after sitting in the salon chair LJ tells me that he quoted me incorrectly, even though I told him on the phone how many extensions I had, and asks if it would be all right if the owner (JP) came over and talked to me about the price. The owner comes over and apologizes for her staff's incorrect quote and states after looking through my hair that it will just cost "Just a little bit more". They continue speaking saying that the amount of hair I said that I had in was a lot however the brand extensions I have are thicker than what they are used to using so it shouldn't cost much more than the quote I was previously given. This should have been my first inclination that they didn't now what they were doing. Someone who is experienced in doing extensions shouldn't be giving wrong price quotes. Regardless, I said continue with the service since I was under the assumption it was only going to cost just a little bit more money. Before getting started, this "experienced" stylist in extensions had to ask the owner where the supplies were. LJ started removing my extensions with a product that they use for a different brand. I told the stylist that the tape on my extensions is extremely tacky and leaves a lot of residue so it would help to rub hair oil on my real hair and let it soak while he took the other extensions out. Lets just say he didn't take my advice, even though I have had this process done several times. He gets all the extensions out, washes my hair, colors, highlights, and trims. He then is ready to put the extensions back in, which are curly and wavy from the braid I was previously wearing them in and from them washing them but not straightening. He applies the extensions in no specific order or process, but rather where he "took a mental note of where they were when he was taking them out". So now I have these non strategically placed extensions in my hair that are wavy in comparison to my own hair that he blew out straight. At this point he had me look in the mirror and asked me if it was good and if I thought anything else needed to be done, or if I wanted to go home and come back later if I thought it needed something else. Mind you I couldn't tell if the hair was straight or even because the extensions were wavy and my hair was straight. He appeared to be annoyed when I said I was not going to leave and come back later but rather asked him to straighten all of my hair together so I could see if it was even or needed to be trimmed together. It of course needed to be trimmed. After he trims to even the ends, he then hands me the mirror to check it out. The color came out nice, however I have dye on my skin around my forehead, on my cheeks, ears, and back of my neck. I then run my fingers through my hair and low and behold, it is all extremely tacky, like I told him it would be. But now rather than it just being tape residue, its now tape residue with hair color stuck to it, while my extensions are in. Which is now nearly impossible to clean close to the extensions with any kind of remover without ruining the existing tape bond. LJ tells me I just had a lot of tape left in there and he washed it but it wouldn't come out. Hence why I suggested leaving the oil to soak like I have done 3 previous times and my stylist where I lived before never had an issue with. LJ and the owner basically told me to go home and comb my hair out (which does not work because once again I have experience with these extensions and you can't just comb out sticky, tacky, tape residue). Of course I expressed my dissatisfaction and past experiences plus the suggestions that I provided but were not followed. My total bill was extremely high. What I got out of it: Hair dye on my cheek, forehead, and neck, sticky, tacky tape residue on my own hair as well as my extension which will be nearly impossible to remove without taking the extensions out again, a very choppy and unblended highlighted crown with long dark brown under color (guess I will be wearing my hair curly for a while since it is appalling to look at straight and can not be fixed unless I cut my hair shorter to blend it together). They would not budge on the price and were not willing to fix any problems. If I wouldn't have gotten in trouble for walking out, I would have ditched and not paid at all. I have never been so dissatisfied. read more

Am newer to the area and wanted to have a professional color touch up. I asked the cost of the service, I was quoted the price which included a haircut, but was charged $10 more. I asked the reason and received no logical answer. I do not have long hair. I went back a couple more times and when I requested no hair cut, I was still charged the same, very unprofessional. The last time my hair was cut WAY TOO SHORT so no more Hair Safari. The place could use a good cleaning, work stations are messy, decor is out of the '90's. Often loud with discussion of partying and other that people are not interested in being subjected to. We all like fun, but there also needs to be a line where professionalism still applies. read more

I moved to Surfside from the North. I am picky about my highlights and a particular hairstyle (cut) but did not realize how difficult it would be to find someone to replace my previous stylist of 15 years. Stephanie does a GREAT job!!! I am VERY pleased with the way my hair comes out and the price is reasonable. I even had someone come over after three months and say she loved the color of my hair. Very nice compliment to get when my hair needed to be done! All of the people at Hair Safari are very nice. Usually I don't take the time to write a review, but I feel that with the quality of work that Stephanie does, the reasonable price charged, and the friendliness of the salon, a review should be written. completely dishonest and unethical. I was there today, for the second time for a hair trial and had paid twice for trial up does and had already booked myself the bride with my bridal party with times and stylists and cost already arranged, And JP, the so-called manager who should be ashamed of herself, came out and rearranged the prices for my whole wedding party by a 50% increase, which is NOT negligible percentage. and she had the audacity to argue with me, the bride in front of all these clients how should would not want to curl hair for this amount or cost, when her staff already quoted me a cost and finalized everything. And to make matters worse this took place 4 days before my wedding!!! Completely unacceptable, she tried to manipulate me and the bridal party to pay all this extra fees and states they can not come in early even to accommodate us at the prearranged time. SO disappointed and upset, fuming at this unacceptable behavior. she should be ashamed of herself. I CANCELLED MY BRIDAL PARTY RESERVATION. BRIDES AND BRIDAL PARTIES. BE FOREWARNED. read more
