I took my Grandson in for an appointment with Danielle. He's 7 and requested a fade. I was able to sit right beside him just incase. lol. Danielle was so professional. She engaged in just the right amount of conversation with him. She was constantly asking what I wanted to see as far as the various lengths. Danielle kept him facing the mirror so he was a part of the decision making process too. His cut was just what he wanted and he felt very confident as he got down from the chair. He was anxious to get home to show his family but excited to show his friends at school the next day. They don't offer you another appointment that day, they don't offer you anything. A deluxe blowout (HC name for doing course or curly hair) at ANY other styling salon is not just a wash and comb-attached blow dry. The 'stylist' (and I use this VERY loosely) did not know how to blow dry natural black hair. She did not use a rounded brush to get the hair smooth/straight - simply used a comb attachment. It did not include any flat iron service - that was an additional charge to "flat iron straighten" ($9). BTW I called the night before to ask specifically if they had stylist that knew how to do natural black hair and was told that no one specialized in it but they could all do blow outs. NOT TRUE! I get it, Hair Cuttery is a cut-rate a la carte salon so perhaps I should have known better than to go to a PW location and expect they could do a simple blowout. They up-sold me a tea tree wash/condition ($6) which seemed to do nothing and the wash was horrible. She did not massage the scalp but gingerly washed the hair only. My hair/scalp are clean but a good wash always gets into the scalp. She also used warm/hot water and any real stylist should know that natural hair needs a cold water rinse to close the pores of the hair. Bottom line is they cannot do female black (natural) hair. Furthermore, my 'stylist' was clearly brand new and negligently inexperienced. I was VERY clear what I wanted for my son's hair and she HACKED his hair. I have been getting his hair cut the same way for years and EVERY OTHER STYLIST/BARBER understood the instructions except this one who should have known she was on the wrong track a few snips in - but she kept going and making it worse! My son looked at himself and said "I guess I am wearing a hat from now on". When I asked them to at least "clean his hairline up" they looked at me baffled. Used the excuse "We don't barber". BS! I saw an older black man in there getting his hair done which was clearly a barber cut. They also tried to say it was a miscommunication ... NO IT WAS NOT! The truth is the 'stylist' was grossly inexperienced and should have had the integrity to say "I don't know how to do that" instead of hacking away at my child's hair. I knew better than to deviate from his regular barber but I thought a quick "clean up" wouldn't hurt until I could get to his regular barber (who now has to clean up this HC mess). I literally was fighting back tears trying to get out of there! At check out I was advised they weren't going to charge me for the child's cut - DUH! - I wasn't being done any favors. It was the worst haircut I have EVER seen. When they checked me out they wanted to give me a $5 discount since the experience was so bad (and I also looked like an idiot with half-assed blown dried hair) and the 'tip' screen popped up. I tried to select $0 because there is NO way I would tip for a hatched job. The system kept jamming and the more I had to stand there and see the sadness on my son's face the harder it became to fight the tears. In the end they didn't charge me for anything which was the right thing to do given the horrendous outcome. I will NEVER be back and I advise you to consider the location and stylist before giving HC an appointment. I won't name the young lady who performed this hatchet job b/c that is not the point. The point is these locations need to be honest about their limitations. It is not racist to say "we aren't skilled in black hair care". It's honest .... This location was anything but honest. ***I wrote a review and the HQ 3 weeks ago and to date NO ONE has responded or acknowledge my situation. Hmm? Now I am curious as to why! read more

Our stylist, Makayla was A+++! She was super friendly, patient, talented & made us feel like her complete priority. I can't say enough great things about her. The only reason for 4 stars has nothing to do with Makayla, it is due to the significant difference in cost from what we were estimated upon booking. We were estimated $138 for the full foil color value package but when it came time to pay at the end of the service, it cost $197 after a 10% discount was applied or at least that's what we were told. This is a steep increase from what we were expecting which was very confusing & disappointing. I planned to pay an all cash but ended up having to pay the extra portion on my credit card so I still had enough cash to give Makayla the tip she deserved. I also think it's completely wrong that we weren't told it was gonna be this significant extra cost until we were checking out. The client should always be made aware of the cost prior to the service is completed. This would ensure the client is in agreement and is the fair or right thing to do. This type of thing makes me wary of using Hair Cuttery services in the future due to surprise charges, especially steep ones. Thank goodness I had the extra $ to cover it! Yikes! read more

When I *need* it done right, Elizabeth is amazing (I'm not alone in this discovery - you'll have to schedule with her), and Sabrina is very talented (and also getting harder to catch on a walk-in basis). Solidly average. It's friendly here, but some stylists are definitely better than others. I'll typically go for a trim and would be nervous to try anything more than that. It's obviously a walk-in place, which usually makes me feel uncomfortable. Is the girl I had last time offended when I don't ask for her? I don't want to sit around waiting all day, so I've always just taken the next stylist available. My husband, on the other hand, has a stylist that always grabs him at the door. I have yet to create that relationship with anybody. A tip for my long haired friends - get a wash and cut and walk out. Yes, with wet hair. It's the only way to avoid the dreaded "long hair fees." Long hair being anything that even touches your shoulder. These fees are insanely unfair. My hair may be long but it's thin and only takes a few minutes to dry. A $16 trim can quickly balloon into $40+. Also, don't think you can show up when they open and be the first in the chairs. It's become obvious to me that they let people in before their stated hours...normally older ladies that want the ever long perms and color treatments. In general, I've only been here at off times, assuming that the waits on the weekend can get pretty long. And to some picky comments - nobody has ever offered me a nice place to sit my purse. I'm always forced to put it on the ground, normally on top of some un-swept hair that isn't mine. And speaking of unswept hair, that is a common sight here. A little sweep after every customer would go a long way. read more

She was more focused on her mail order shoes that she gave me a shitty haircut. While I sat in her chair, she made and received phone calls trying to track down her postal carrier to find her mail order shoes. We were very disappointed with my daughter's last visit. She had made an appointment prior with a specific stylist only to be kept waiting for close to two hours to be seen, at which point she was told the stylist had not been aware that she had an appointment waiting for her because there was no receptionist on duty. She was also told appointments don't really guarantee being seen at any specific time, so then what is the point of an appointment versus just walking in? Our appointment had been at 1:00 but she got seen close to 3:00, and was told the person before her had been waiting there since 10:00. Where else can you get great service without an appointment and professional styling for very reasonable cost. People who complain and want all the" bells and whistles" offered at upscale salons should be willing to pay the enormous prices that accompany red carpet treatment.
