For this third visit, I had made an appointment via text about a week prior and requested balayage with a haircut. When I got there, I just showed a few pictures of what I was looking for (from their IG page), answered some quick questions, and let Louis work his magic. About 3.5 hours later, as he styled my hair, I knew it was very much worth the wait. Absolutely amazed and in love with the results! I will definitely be coming back for my haircuts and future coloring sessions.

I was a bit nervous walking in because I can't speak Chinese, and my friend who I normally visit the salon with and translates for me wasn't free to come with me. However, Jason was friendly and still made me feel comfortable despite the language barrier, and asked a lot of questions to make sure he understood the color I was trying to achieve! Before dying the whole head, he also test-dyed small strands of my hair with two shades of copper (one light and the other slightly darker), so I can pick the option that I liked better and fit my face shade more. I couldn't be happier about the final result, and will definitely be back to Jason for my next color appointment! For both color w/ bleach & a hair cut, the total was $320 + tip, which is so reasonable and worth traveling all the way out to Sunset Park for! They only take cash, venmo, or Zelle, so be prepared. I came here during the weekdays last month and was very excited about my haircut because of the…read morenumber of positive reviews. Unfortunately, my expectations would backfire because of the subpar customer service. Upon arrival, I greeted the employees in English and was situated in one of the styling chairs. I was the only customer there along with a male and female employee. I was then asked by the female employee if I wanted to wash my hair to which I said no because I had already washed it at home. Since I came in speaking English and a little bit of Mandarin, both assumed I couldn't speak or understand an ounce of Cantonese when in fact I could. The female employee spoke decent English and served as a translator between me and the male employee who ended up cutting my hair. They then proceeded to blow dry my hair and this was when they started making some rude remarks about my hair in Cantonese. The main comment that was repeatedly said by them was how oily my hair was. I'm sorry I just happen to have a more oily scalp due to hormones and genetics? I have visited other hair salons before where I would wash my hair beforehand but have never experienced hairstylists commenting rudely right in front of my face. My hair was straightened afterward to which the male employee continued to make disparaging comments about my hair, such as "her oily hair is ruining the straightener" and "she wouldn't be able to do many hairstyles on her oily hair." Aside from the unpleasant comments, he was also a little aggressive when brushing my hair. There were a few instances when my head would bump against the hairbrush. I was charged a total of $28 which I thought was a bit expensive for a simple haircut because my hair wasn't that long to begin with. Overall, even though I was satisfied with my haircut, I will not be visiting this salon again.

I just went here today after reading the reviews on here. First, Encore no longer has a Malaysian…read morestaff, everyone when I went in was Chinese and with the exception of two that I overheard, their English wasn't the greatest. I didn't really need test it out though, since all I needed was to get my hair chopped off because I had accidentally fried it with some at-home treatments I was doing. No biggie, hair grows back, and all I had to do was show them a picture of what i wanted. My end results don't match the picture, but like I said, it wasn't like i had the most faithful of hair to work with, and it looks like this hairstyle will grow out nicely. Encore is getting a 2 star from me, mainly because the hairstylist was a trooper for working with my messed up hair. But lemme break down why they get 3 stars knocked off their rating: 1. Extremely cold and kind of rude when I got in. I walked in and greeted the hairstylist who worked with me with a "Hello, how are you?" and just got a nod and asked if I wanted my hair washed. I just went for the haircut because it really wasn't that serious. 2. The stylist had to wash my hair regardless because it was pretty hard to work with, which is fine. Except she was super rough on my head, her nails scratching my scalp in a less than satisfying way. 3. THE. PLACE. WAS. HAIRY. I don't know if the last customer just had a lot of hair, or if they don't like to clean up their workspace much because almost all of the equipment and bottles were covered in hair, and there was hair all over the floor. Thankfully the stuff she used on me was clean (or rather, my wishful thinking is making me believe they were) but I still went home and washed my hair anyway, just in case. I'm hoping someone swept up after my haircut, because there was no way to hide bright pink hair all over the place. I'd much rather take the hour long trip into Queens to go to Kim's Salon then to go to this place again. I did tip the lady nicely because I did feel the odds were stacked against her thanks to the condition my hair was in. There are a few other nicer looking hair salons in the area I'm willing to try out, hopefully I'll have a better experience there than I did at Encore.

They changed locales about 10 yrs ago, but still employ virtually the same staff as their original location. Don't expect frills & extras here, just no-nonsense, quality haircuts & hair treatments (coloring, keratin, straightening, etc.), at very reasonable prices. Any one of the stylists and hair washers/assistants are extremely capable & talented, but our stylist is Angie, and she is terrific. Not only does she possess a lovely and friendly personality, but is also a true professional at what she does. In addition, before getting your haircut, your hair is washed and during this you get an excellent scalp, neck and back massage from the hair washer/assistants. It is an Asian (mostly Malaysian staff) salon, but don't be intimidated by this, they understand English, and will make sure they understand what you want before they get started on your service. They are terrific, and totally don't need this review since they are constantly busy in there, but they all work so damn hard...I just had to give them props!

Hesitantly, I stayed to get my much needed haircut. First, I laid down for a hair wash, which was a pleasant experience overall. The only downside is some of their towels smelled like expired water, so they probably didn't dry their towels well. The stylist that I got wasn't able to speak English or Cantonese so another stylist helped us translate. I showed him a picture of the Korean curtain bangs I wanted, and he got to working. Sadly, he stood most of the time and had me tilt my head downwards while he worked. It was super uncomfortable for me and I don't know why he didn't sit on a chair to make it easier for both of us. I wasn't ecstatic about the results of the haircut because it wasn't that close to the picture I showed him and the curtain bangs aren't really curtain banging on one side, meaning the bangs aren't entirely the same on both sides.

I went today and it was perfect since I was the only customer at the time so I was attended right away! A lady washed my hair and added a "hot oil treatment" for a $5 extra charge. Since she said my hair was a very dry. I decided to try it but the water she used was extremely hot! Little too hot for your hair and the towels used mad a funky smell to them. I don't think they dried correctly so that was a little unpleasant. A male blow dried my hair and straighten it. I don't think he understands English too much so another guy working helped him translate. But my hair was very frizzy even though he applied oil to it. Definitely need a little more training in my opinion. Other than that, the place is very nice and so was the staff!
