I have submitted changes to Yelp regarding this businesses' location and hours. I will rehash these changes below in the event that the changes do not go through:
Hair by Tom is now located at 4245 34th St in Lubbock, Texas. It is in the strip center on the southeast corner of 34th and Quaker. The hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Closed on Sunday and Monday.
I was trying to get a haircut yesterday (Monday) around 8 o'clock in the evening. I tried Regis in the mall. They were unable to fit me in. Then I drove across Slide to the nearest Sports Clips. While there were still several people inside getting their haircut, they were not accepting anymore customers as they had closed about 5 minutes prior to my arrival. So I proceeded to look up hair stylists on my iPhone. Hair by Tom showed up as being located inside the South Plains Mall and appeared to be open until 9pm. Jackpot! Or so I thought...
I gave Tom a call - the phone number appears to be his cellphone, which turned out to be very convenient for me. He answered and save the exact details of our dialogue, he offered to meet me at his store despite the fact that his business was not even open on that given day! Very cool! Now while I was very impressed by his initiative, if the haircut sucked - then it would be a moot point. (I am a male btw, so I can't speak to his skills in cutting women's hair, but I'm sure he is good with either gender).
On to the most important aspect of a hair stylist's business. Whether the haircut was worth a damn... I have frequented Regimen here in Lubbock and various highly reviewed stylists in both Houston, TX and Denver, CO. So without sounding like a total snob, my standards are typically a little higher than that which Great Clips can generally provide. I can confirm that the haircut I received was on par with most 35 dollar haircuts I have received in the past. And it only cost 20 bucks and I added a $5 tip, so $25 total.
He used electric clippers on the sides and scissors on the top. He also used thinning shears and a smaller electric clipper for my sideburns and the back of my neck. After the cut was complete, he shampooed my hair and dried and styled it. My hair style is relatively simple, but sometimes the simple things are the hardest to master. Everything about the cut was great. He did an excellent job of blending my sideburns with my week old facial scruff.
Nice guy to top it off. Very easy to chat with. There is nothing worse than a socially awkward hair stylist... Or one that makes me feel socially awkward. I didn't have a problem with either of these.
I am giving Hair by Tom a 5/5 star review based upon:
1) His customer service and willingness to please the customer
2) Quality of haircut, shampoo and style
3) Cleanliness of the shop
4) Price/Value of service
5) Ease of conversation with stylist
Overall, Hair by Tom provided me with a very pleasant experience. I will certainly be back! read more
