Decided to make a last minute appointment close to home. Chose this place bc of the good reviews. The cut was fine, she seemed to know what she was doing, attention to detail, EXCEPT ONE MAJOR ONE!!!! I wanted a fresh cut of 3-4 inches off which we talked about at length, she even showed me where she was making her first cut and I approved. Then I noticed she kept hacking away big pieces and protested but she kept going saying she was only texturing and blending. Then when I told her it was getting too short she only shook her head and said wait in you see the back. My hair was past my breasts, I wanted 3-4 inches off. I don't think I was speaking in code!!! So why did she think it was ok to take off 8-9inches of my painfully slow growing hair?!?!?! She knew I was upset, she told me the price and I gave her 2 bills AND THEN SHE GAVE ME NO CHANGE AND TOOK IT UPON HERSELF TO KEEP THE REST AS A TIP!!! WTF?!?!?! NEVER COME. J was super friendly but I asked to keep my long hair as long as possible and just to trim the ends bc of split ends. Instead, she gave me bangs bc she said it looks better without asking me at all. I usually tie all of my hair up for sports so I would NEVER ask for bangs but now I have bangs to clip up. "J" was the stylist I chose to share this new haircut experience with. Firstly, she is a nice lady and seems to want to listen and understand your requests but following through is not her thing. Technique seems to be there but she decided to cut my hair waaaay shorter than I agreed to. She made the executive decision to do whatever the F she wanted with MY hair and that is not ok! I came in for an A-Line cut. J was very nice. Asked if I had any pictures to ref what I wanted. So I showed her, and she said ok, I can do that. She washed my hair then went back to the chair. She started cutting my hair and it looked like 1 length all around. I told her I wanted an A-line like the picture I had showed her. She asked to look at the pic again, and said ok but the back will have to be shorter. I already expected the back to be shorter since that's what I was asking for! I asked her to pls make my hair light/ thin out in the back so it wouldn't look so thick. She gave me this look like "duh, I know". I saw this lady cut across my hair with regular scissors not shear scissors!!!!!! That's when I got up to look closer at what she was doing and OMGGGG I could have cried!!!!!! She told me to see the picture again so she could fix it. I told her she ruined my hair and looking at the picture a 3rd time wouldn't do a damn thing! She looked at me as if SHE was mad. This lady J completely butchered my hair! I basically left in the middle of the cut because I did not want her hands near my hair for 1 more second and had to go to another salon for them to fix it. I personally feel that she only knows how to do mens hair cut / VERY BASIC CUTS. I dont think she knows how to work with hispanic hair. My hair had to be cut extremely short just to fix the mess J did. The lady that fixed it had never seen any hair be butchered in such an extreme way. She also saw a few areas where she cut across with the scissors. I have a few lines of 1cm little hairs popping out. Completely ridiculous!!!!!!! I love Joanne! This is the first time I am going to her for haircut and color. My previous stylist moved! Joanne is very professional and listens well on how you want your hairstyle! Eve though I was 15 minutes late to my appointment, she welcome happily and very professional. Before starting, she explained what was best for me. Finally came in to get a trim! I used to color my hair very often and that accumulated some annoying spilt ends. Although some split ends went up more than 4 inches, I appreciated that she understood I only wanted 2 inches cut off. She really listens to what you want and checks to see if it's to your liking. I have gone to Joanne for past year or so for my haircuts, perms and coloring. There never once a time the result was not to my satisfaction. She dyed my hair once with a reddish tone while covering the grey hairs in front. It was a color I never tried and it looked different and many people commented how I looked way better. Next time she did two tone for brown on top and ash green towards the tips along with a wave perm- yep that was somewhat heavy on chemicals in one sitting but my hair survived and the result came out great. Afterwards got lots of compliments again at work, church etc. I am Korean American (Asian, black/brown hair) so I will recommend her to anyone with similar tone with coloring needs, perms, cuts - anything really. I decided to come here because it was the only place nearby that had only one dollar sign and all I needed was a trim. First off, it was difficult to find because the "Hair by J" sign is nowhere to be found! The sign just says beauty salon and even inside I saw the name only on the corner of one tiny poster. I enter at 6 pm (they close at 7) and it takes a full minute for someone to acknowledge me. Once we got started it was okay, there wasn't any music playing and there was no conversation made with me at all which made me feel slightly uncomfortable, they were speaking another language (which is fine I am bilingual and know that sometimes you just wanna talk to people in whatever you're comfortable with) but it would've been nice to have ANY conversation. I asked for a trim but didn't ask the price since I figured it couldn't be more than $15-20 as that's the most I've ever paid for a trim including when I lived near Beverly Hills. At the end when I asked how much it was I was floored when I was told it was forty dollars! I thought the price was way too much for a small trim, and was even told that it was not $50 as I hadn't gotten it styled (I was heading home after). I wouldn't come back as it was too expensive and also felt unwelcome. read more
