I come to Yelp to share a discovery that was 20+ years in the making. At Hair 2000, Ratchanee has been cutting me and my brother's hair since we were young kids in elementary school. It still is such a vivid, positive memory for me because of how kind the service and experience was. My Mom would take us over and I looked forward to it, especially the neck shave. I'll always have nostalgia about the feeling of hearing Earth, Wind & Fire playing in the shop, walking out with a fresh haircut and getting to grab a Blow Pop lollipop on the way out. As I grew older, I started going to other barbers that had a wide range of pricing. Nothing has been as good as Hair 2000. I recently called ahead to make an appointment because I was in town and returned to Ratchanee yesterady, 1/9/2025 for my first haircut with her in a long while. It turned out great and I'm so happy with it. The whole experience was a reminder of how great Hair 2000 is because of their friendliness, general ease/confidence that it will turn out well, and cost/pricing. I'll take Ratchanee's haircuts at $29 over most places at $40-50+. Bonus points because my wife loves it too - I think she's called me handsome two or three times since getting the haircut. I am very loyal to Jane, my Stanford/ Los Altos-based hairdresser,of 15 (!) years. Jane is truly talented and, at this point, we have a real friendship which includes going out to lunch and exchanging gifts. But, because the pandemic makes everything different, I was not up for making the trek down to Stanford, with nowhere to go to make it worth the commute and no public bathrooms to use, even when hair salons re-opened in Santa Clara county. To be honest, I wasn't even comfortable going inside a salon, even with restrictions lifted. But I have long hair that I only get cut twice a year (because, you know, the drive to Stanford) anyway, so I figured, what's another year? But then, my mother-in-law's regular hairdresser, Ratchanee, owner of Hair 2000, began cutting her hair in my mother-in-law's backyard and I decided that in a pandemic, it would be forgivable for me to be disloyal to Jane. I felt very comfortable with the outdoor setting. The risk was more in going with a stylist recommendation from one's short-haired mother-in-law. I kind of feel awful saying it, but Ratchanee may be as good as Jane. And as inexpensive! I was really happy with the cut, and still am 2 1/2 months later. She also cut my husband's hair and probably gave him the best cut he's had in years. (He's had a lot of not great haircuts, possibly because he often gets them on Navy bases). I'm being extra Covid-cautious, so I try to do everything outdoors, but I think Ratchanee and her husband have gone above-and-beyond to make their salon safe. It's clear one of the greatest risks of reopening outdoor spaces is ventilation--and this is an area that is not thoroughly addressed in existing guidelines. But Hair 2000 uses an abundant number of HEPA air filter purifiers. They have also installed plexiglass dividers and the stylists are scrupulously masked. Ratchanee even kept her N95 on outdoors. I believe they are also still offering outdoor cuts in their parking lot. read more

I was not expecting this quality of hair cuts and waxing! After years and years of going to high end salons and liking what they did, i stopped going to get my hair and brows waxed because if the pandemic. I live close by and one day when walking by, something made me go inside, where i met Mai, she is sincere has integrity, so sweet and ALWAYS listens to what you want and gives that to you AND she is a FANTASTIC STYLIST!!Better than all the high end salons i have been to and so inexpensive. My dad and I have been getting our haircut by Rachanee (sorry I have a feeling I butchered the spelling!) for about 20 years now. She and her husband both do a fantastic job at cutting hair, and the place is rarely not busy (make sure to make an appointment in advance). They're great at styling short hair, I love my current haircut of a 2 with a fade on the sides, 5 in the back, with the front scissor cut. Prices are reasonable, especially for Marin. I can't speak for women's haircuts, but what I've seen them do on other people while I was there seemed very good too. I've been going to Hair 2000 for over 15 years and having Joe, the owner cut my hair. He's a great barber. Every cut has been by hand, the old fashioned way. I hope to go hear for another 15 years and beyond. My suggestion to anyone considering going here for a cut, make a reservation. I had to find a new place to get highlights because my previous wonderful stylist had to retire because of Covid. I am so happy I found Jan. With her help I have blonde highlights that look natural; I like non chunky highlights throughout my fine straight hair versus a chunkier, edgier style (that works on curly thicker hair); i'm sure she could do both, but it's great that she gives me just what I like. She also worked with me to find just the right color mix of ash and golden blonde. Reasonably priced so I can go regularly without breaking the bank. Happy to recommend. read more

I had my hair cut by a middle aged lady. I explained to her what I wanted, and that I want a tapered back, clean arches etc. The cut itself went okay but merely took 5 minutes. I think the only thing she understood from my explanation was "clean up" since that's what she murmured while cutting my hair. My hair didn't have a tapered back when she was finished. read more

It's nothing fancy, but everyone does great cuts here. I didn't have an appointment for my kiddo, but waited less than 10 minutes. "Jenny" was professional yet provided friendly chit chat. I probably would've paid at least $50 more in any other salon. When funds are short & one of my littles need a good trim, you'll find me at Hair 2000. read more

I needed a quick trim before a wedding, so I looked for an affordable place because I wasn't interested in a dramatic, new haircut. This place fit the bill, and I was very pleased with the haircut. For $17, there was no hair wash and no one swept up the previous customer's hair. But as a drop-in, I did not have to wait long, and the haircut itself was much better than one I got at Le Burge't in SF. read more

I ADORE Hair 2000. I always go to see Rashnee (that's the phonetic pronunciation of her name) and come away with such a good hair cut that I usually tip her 40%. She has given me a cute chin length bob, then bangs, then helped me grow it out, then added layers, etc. Whatever I want, Rashnee is able to make it happen. She is super sweet and always remembers me and asks about my work and friends (many of whom also frequent this salon). The prices are insanely cheap--cheaper than SuperCuts--and the service is outstanding. I do walk-ins and appointments, and I am always able to get a beautiful haircut. I just moved back to the area and couldn't find these guys anywhere since they relocated. Well after allowing Supercuts to ruin my life $18 at a time I finally discovered Hair 2000's new location. They do excellent work and schedule appointments in such a way that there is rarely ever a wait or queue for walk-ins. For $16 you get a lot of industry experience for a fraction of what you would traditionally pay for similar hair cut. read more

They not know how to cut hair. Their knowledge not good. When I left there my whole t-shirt was hair. Don't trust yelp and google reviews.

The owners, Joe and Ratcha nee, are great - Service is superb and hair cuts are wonderful - My daughter (picky one that she is) has been entrusting her hair to Ratchanee ever since first cut her hair after years of growing it. Her hair was past her waist then, so we saved the hair and shipped it off to Locks for Love. Now she prompts me now and then - Mom - call Ratchanee - I need my hair cut. And best of all - cuts are so low in price - I don't know how they do it - but it is an amazing value for such quality service. Wouldn't hesitate recommending either of the owners to anyone. I've been going here for more than 10 years (they used to be in San Anselmo, now in San Rafael next to Cigarettes Cheaper) and love this place. Both Ratchanee and Joe do a great job. Never crowded, always friendly, parking is pretty easy most of the time, and you feel like family when you go here. Pictures of their kids and dog are on the wall, good music playing and a great 30 minute haircut. No frills, no drama, just great hair cuts. read more

This is a great place - for cuts, price and friendly service. My friend with a busy life full of new twins and toddler turned me on to it several years ago. I get the same or better haircuts as I had been paying 3-4x more for. For years I went to a higher -priced salon ; sometimes the cut would be fine; other times - not so much and still pricey. I get a great cut more consistently at Hair 2000 (by Mihn) for so much less. And it's easy to tip well and still pay way less than before. All the people there seem very good.
