Pierson's has had everything I need right here in town. They care about our community as I have seen through the years. Years ago, I was treated rudely at Shaffer's Ace in Henderson Center by older men rather consistently. Since then, I refused to ever go there again, even though it was a block away from our house. Pierson's was like night and day, in their customer service. We live further away from Pierson's now, but it is still worth the easy drive during the week between 2 and 3 p.m. and we know the back roads. If time allows, I love meandering around in the garden area after I buy my supplies. One lovely afternoon, I even got to pet the garden cat sleeping up on an empty flower crate out back. Years ago, maybe 2004, I took my plans, measurements, and idea to build a cat door in a window. In the lumber department out back, they found me some scrap wood. Then I got the proper brackets inside the main building. In there, a nice gentlemen helped me figure out what bracket I needed AND he used his electric screwdriver to attach the brackets to the wood for me. Wish I got their names to tell the manager how much I appreciated their help. Never will I forget those guys going the extra mile for me, inexperienced in these things just having an idea. My measurements were correct and between the Pierson's lumber out back and bracket, screws, and nail area in front, they literally helped me build a cat door/window. It went under a window that opened upward and worked very well, with a table to jump on to get up and down for short excursions, then home to eat as I battened down the hatches. Many years later, that precious little mouser cat crossed the Rainbow bridge. She is buried under that beautiful flowering tree right outside where her cat window used to be.

I had a leak in a pipe that carries water to the detached garage. Thinking that all pipes could be…read morefixed like PVC (with PVC cement and couplings) the initial fix ended in absolute disaster. The black piping that I had was poly-something-or-another, and I realized that I didn't, in fact, know what I was doing...at all. So, when I walked into ACE, I essentially held up the bit of black piping that I had removed and was like, "How do I fix this?" Not only was I pointed in the right direction to find the correct replacement piping, but a phenomenal employee also helped me find the correct items for the repair and walked me through the steps to fix it. Alright, round two -- I repaired the pipe just as instructed and I still found myself with a light dribble of water coming out, no matter how tight I got the clamps. I walked into ACE a second time with a picture of the repair work on my phone. I asked the same employee, "Did I do this right?" and shared that it was still dripping. He gave me a patch to wrap around the coupling inserts, further instructions, some words of encouragement, and I was on my way again. Round three. I took it all apart and added that patch and BAM, worked like a charm. In my son's own words, "Wow, I didn't realize this would be an all-day project." Me neither, bud, haha. But I am SO beyond grateful for the friendly and helpful staff at ACE. Couldn't have done it without you guys!

It's open during a usual daytime hours since the CoOp has one staff and closes at 5 PM. I don't think it's open during Sundays. I love this small town CoOp. One store has home decor, candies of all kinds, paints for the walls, and kitchen nick nacks. Whereas the other store focuses on home repairs, home keys, and small assortment of random home items. I could spend hours here. I love how quiet and peaceful it feels. A perfect getaway after a busy day at work. I arrived for one item and end up leaving with other items :)

I've been to dozens of "old fashioned" candy shops around the country that are either really cheesy or just are so overpriced you won't want to buy anything. This candy shop has really nice variety of old fashioned US brands, current novelty ones that kids like, and quality imports. Prices on candy are very fair. They have a good selection of regional sodas that are pretty $$$ individually but you buy in sets of 6 it's more reasonable. Also the staff is INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful.

However, their return policy, written on their website, is a lie. There have been items (ex single nails, or screws, heater filter, and a few items that broke the first time I used them), this store REFUSED to exchange or return the item, even though it was their employee who helped me and assured me the item would work, or fit....and even though I had the receipts and it had only been from a few hours, to a few days, they refused. Especially, the older lady who seems to live at the counter at the entrance. We've learned this is NOT a good store to shop at...and today confirmed that. My 89 yr old father, who has Parkinson's and walks hunched over because of a pinched nerve, wanted to surprise me with a new shower head with handheld attachment. With their limited income, they purchased a $54 shower head w/handheld as a surprise for me. I have mult. spinal problems, do not walk well, have surgical bars in my neck that limits how far I can move my arms overhead, and a collapsing lumbar spine area. My 87 yr old mother had a massive intestinal infection a month ago that developed 3 abscesses and had perforated her intestines. After weeks in the hospital, she's home now but the infection has not gone away and that portion of her intestines will need to be removed-but she's very weak. She's wants me by her side as much as possible; I welcome that.. my kids and I help her as much as possible, even into the middle of the night. It's physically painful for me and my mom. So to surprise me with what I needed was a blessing in a tormented disguise called McKinleyville Ace Hardware. The shower head had EXTREEMLY low water pressure. My 40 yr old shower head wasn't working good, but it had more water pressure than the Delta 2 in 1 my 89yr old father had bought me. This time my dad was turned away from McKinleyville Ace Hardware. Even though the box, the included booklet and all attachments were provided, the lady not only refused a refund, she refused an exchange. He was told "it was opened, and used, we don't refund or exchange anything that has been opened. Call the manufacture, maybe they can replace it". Really? A new item they sold and he's told to call the manufacture for a replacement?! How is someone suppose to know that an item works the way it is suppose to work if it's not opened? Merchadise the store sells which means the store also gaurentees the items works...if it's not opened and tried? An item a store employee recommended and guranteed the product was good, to an 89yr old, hunched over man who uses a walker, and believes what he's told? DO NOT BUY ANYTHING OF MONETARY VALUE AT THIS STORE. Not even a single washer, or nail, or screw that they say matches the one you brought in...because if it doesn't fit, you will not get a cent back....I guess now we can say you get a nickel back since pennies are not made anymore.

The store is well-organized, and I was able to find what I needed quickly. The staff is friendly and ready to help, offering good advice on products and how to use them. There's a nice garden section out back with a good selection of plants and supplies. You can find some good deals when items are on sale, but most everyday prices tend to be higher than the competition. Still, the convenience, knowledgeable service, and variety make it worth stopping in, especially when you need something right away.
