I had a leak in a pipe that carries water to the detached garage. Thinking that all pipes could be fixed like PVC (with PVC cement and couplings) the initial fix ended in absolute disaster. The black piping that I had was poly-something-or-another, and I realized that I didn't, in fact, know what I was doing...at all. So, when I walked into ACE, I essentially held up the bit of black piping that I had removed and was like, "How do I fix this?" Not only was I pointed in the right direction to find the correct replacement piping, but a phenomenal employee also helped me find the correct items for the repair and walked me through the steps to fix it. Alright, round two -- I repaired the pipe just as instructed and I still found myself with a light dribble of water coming out, no matter how tight I got the clamps. I walked into ACE a second time with a picture of the repair work on my phone. I asked the same employee, "Did I do this right?" and shared that it was still dripping. He gave me a patch to wrap around the coupling inserts, further instructions, some words of encouragement, and I was on my way again. Round three. I took it all apart and added that patch and BAM, worked like a charm. In my son's own words, "Wow, I didn't realize this would be an all-day project." Me neither, bud, haha. Very helpful customer service and if the one employee doesn't know he calls another employee that knows. I had a plumbing issue and there were 3 employees figuring out how to get my issue fixed. Ace Crescent City rents out broken and malfunctioning equipment, then misleads you and charges you for it, and blames the customer for the equipment not functioning. After renting a broken laser level, I rented a compactor, and it stopped working after 3hrs use, as the pull cord was stuck. I tried every angle and level of force within reason without breaking off the cord. They told me not to try fixing it, and that they would not charge for the second day as it was non-usable We tried returning that day but they were closed earlier than their online posted hours. Then when we returned it the subsequent day, they said our deposit would be refunded and they would get back to us. They did not get back to us, and after a week claimed that the machine was functional and it was user error that I allowed the pull cord to retract too fast, causing it to get stuck. This is a machine that starts vibrating and moving as soon as you start it, and so slowly releasing the pull cord is not easy, intuitive, or safe, and should have been made explicit upon rental. The amount of my time they wasted in providing poorly maintained or outright broken equipment and misleading and dishonest customer service has cost me hundreds of dollars in wasted project time with other rented equipment and laborers. Ace Crescent City Rentals has treated my business, which is substantial as a landscape designer and homesteader, like they do not want it. They will not get it again. I willing to drive further to not deal with dishonest people for crap equipment. read more

Most every time I make a purchase at Crescent Ace Hardware, the cashiers never smile and say "Thank you" when handing my receipt to me. It's like they've been instructed to not say ANYTHING - as if making a purchase was wasting their time. On the other hand, the people in the aisles seem generally helpful. I am usually a big fan of Ace. And this Ace I have had mostly good experiences at. I recently moved here and have been in and out constantly picking up home improvement supplies and maintenance items and tools. I bought 200 dollars worth of house paint as I was getting ready to install a new used front door with my neighbor. And the next day I went back because my neighbor informed me Ace could rekey the locks on the new door for me for 10.00. ( there were two locks, a button lock and a deadbolt). I had the same gentleman whom mixed up my paint from the day before. He seemed to get annoyed when I told him I wanted the two locks keyed to different keys...and then he wrote up a slip for 3 re-keys.. and called someone else over to help me as he was "going on a break". I had not noticed what was on the slip. I proceeded to get a 40.00 door kick plate and some other items for my door installation. When I got to the front to check out I looked at the slip and pointed out to the girl, I only had 2 locks. She called the second guy over who had helped me, and he even called the other guy in the break room.... THEY STILL CHARGED ME 30.00... as if I had 3 locks. After dropping 300.00 in 2 days and probably 500 in the last month... I am a bit burned. I am a single mom an an adult autistic young man. And I make every dollar count. This is one of the largest Ace Hardware stores in a many, many miles, but it has all the helpful people and excellent service you find at the smaller neighborhood stores. This location also has power tools and speciality equipment that professional trades need. They even have equipment rental next door. In addition to the good selection of electrical, plumbing, tools, paint, and cleaning equipment/products. They have a very large selection of special nuts, bolts, screws, fasteners, and knobs all perfectly organized in pull-out drawers. Most Ace Hardware store have this, but this location has a much larger selection. read more

Hi there, I just went in to Ace hardware there was three or four people in there without masks. I asked the clerk if the order had been rescinded and she didn't know. She said her manager never told her to tell people to put masks on. Has a mask order being lifted in Del Norte county? If they're required to wear a shirt and shoes why can't they require them to wear a mask. I Bet the people they loose over enforcing the mask order Would be made up by the people that felt safe to go to their store. read more

I came into Crescent City Ace Hardware Store in search of a replacement kitchen cabinet door hinge (who knew there were that many options). Nick took my hinge and matched it perfectly after digging into several bins and even sitting in the floor to sort multiple sizes co-mingled in the same bin. I actually bought all the hinges he had for future replacement needs. The time spent to accommodate actual specific customer need was invaluable to me in a time where customer service today is all but obsolete. Ace: The stressful Place I went into ace to get a part from radio shack that I needed. I had the specific part number with me as well as all of the technical information. They did not have the same part but off of the specifications the guy gave me a cord he assured me would work. I asked if it if it did not work and he said I could. I bought the cord, swipped my Debit card, punched in my pin number and selected no cash back. At the end of the transaction I was asked to sign the monitor, so I did. When the cord of course did not work. I took it back and tried to get the cash to put back in my bank account so I could order the proper cord on line and they refused to give me the cash. They said i swiped a credit card. WTF?????? I swiped a debit card and punched in my pin. She said i ran it as credit, umm.... she just called me a LIAR!!!!! What an F-ing B-Word!!!!! She said I could come back Monday and talk to the owner, but she couldn't give me back the money ACE had already taken out of my account. I now have to wait 3-5 business days to get the money charged back to my visa and then order the cord i need online and wait even longer. Meanwhile every worker in the store came to watch me loose my temper, WTF Am I Prime time TV?????? read more

I went there yesterday to get a vinyl siding removal (zip) tool. I could not find it and neither could the employees. I went to another store for some shopping. when I came back to my truck an employee came out and asked me if I was the guy looking for the tool. I was. The employees had located the tool and showed me. I bought it and left a "happy camper". Price is the same as Amazon but no shipped and waiting. read more
