Outside of the store - there were two of these really cool benches with giant mushrooms adorning either end of the bench. I walked in and set off an alarm that lets the owner know that customers have arrived. I met James Simmons the owner who was out back in the wood shop making stuff. I have a bad habit of yelling out "STOP!" and this makes my driver (aka my husband) pretty angry. He also doesn't approve of me putting little toe marks on the inside of his windshield, but he tolerates this most of the time. So while driving on 101 through Orick I spot a castle made of redwood. "STOP!" I scream, and he's still glaring at me while he pulls over. This was definitely worth pulling over for. We didn't need any wooden furniture for our home, so we didn't go check out the place, but their carvings out front, including this one were soooo cool! I tried to find more information about the company when I reached home, but didn't find much. Although, I did find another picture of the castle that dated it back to 1998! So cool!!

They took the time to recommend hikes based on what we were looking for whether easy or more challenging, which made planning our day so much easier. One ranger even let us know that a couple of the trails we had planned to visit were actually closed due to an event. That alone saved us a lot of time and hassle, which is why I definitely recommend stopping by a visitor center first to check what's open before heading out. They also have restrooms and a small gift shop, which is a nice bonus. Overall, this stop really helped us make the most of our trip!

They also have a large wall of food items, from companies in Humboldt County, including bagel toppings from Los bagels, marinara sauce from Tomaso's. , (I don't know if this is the same Tomaso's that ran the tomato pie restaurant or not...) and lots of other things. Our canoe guides Colby and Julian were super! We selected the two hour morning tour so we could explore the Redwood forest in the afternoon just 5 minutes South on the 101 and make it 30 minutes North to Crescent City by sunset. During the tour we learned a lot, laughed a lot and saw many amazing animals and plants from the Redwood canoe. The boat itself was easy to walk into from the shore without getting wet and sit comfortably-- Fellow tour goers with us were ages 30-75. We all were provided life jackets and a safety talk before embarking. Thank you Colby and Julian for sharing and showing us your beloved home!

The old man has since passed and he was nice and wouls give deals. The daughter and son have kept up some of the relationships with local tribal people. But the grandson is rude and has bad energy, did not show respect and was racist. Theres not too many places to get native cut abalone so it sucks to enrich folks that uphold supremacy.
