My boyfriend and I have been on a quest to introduce his mother to as many new cultures through food as we can when she visits us in Brooklyn. Last night we decided it was time she try Korean food, and specifically he wanted to choose a Bib Gourmand restaurant. We booked this reservation the same day, and watched spots get taken as we booked on the website! Street parking wasn't hard to find and we were greeted and seated immediately. We loved the calming atmosphere inside and had a table with a view of everything. After offering us water, we decided on drinks. I ordered the Velvet Reviver, which was described as an espresso martini meets a White Russian. It was delicious and almost like a dessert drink. My boyfriend ordered The Squid & The Whale which grew on all of us, especially paired with our food. To start, we shared the Yache pajun (vegetable scallion pancakes) and the Dukboki fundido (a Mexican inspired spicy, hot, cheesy dip with my favorite chewy Korean rice cakes inside). The scallion pancakes were delicious and had much more texture than once I have tried in the past, paired with a perfect vinegary sauce you can spoon on top. We all loved the dip and it was the perfect amount of spicy and comforting chewiness. I then was recommended a white wine to pair with the appetizer I chose as my entree, the Yeoneo. Each slice of salmon was incredibly fresh, and they were very generous with the amount of row that was served as well. The greens and avocado slices were great as well to add more texture. My boyfriend then ordered a yummy beer and the Daegu jorim. We absolutely adored this dish and noted that the cod had perfect structure to it, that almost mimic that of the deliciously cooked radishes in this dish. His mother ordered the ultimate comfort dish of the night, the Kalbi jjim (with no jalapeños). We were in awe at how the meat fell apart due to how tender it was. If you like melt in your mouth beef and stew like dishes, this is the dish for you. Our food was served with some banchan: amazing kimchi, myeolchi bokkeum (dried anchovies, much more mild than you'd expect), and kongjang (soy beans, also mild and with more chew than a typical edamame you might expect). We absolutely loved our dinner here and how helpful and kind the weight staff was, explaining different dishes and flavors, and clearing and switching out our plates at every turn.
We visited hanyeo on a saturday night without a reservation! i would recommend booking a spot in advance, but we were able to get seated at the bar. it's a very modern, comfortable and upscale ambience. there was a decent wait time between our appetizer and entrees, but the food was delicious. we got the fried pancake, which was amazing! I was also very fond of the seasonal soup with glass noodles. I found the stir fried squid and shrimp lacking in flavor and also wasn't wowed by the teokbokki. Staff was very friendly. Glad we tried it!
Probably closer to a 3.5 for me -- the food isn't bad, but definitely overpriced for what you get, and I think other reviewers are correct that you can find much tastier Korean food (including Korean fusion) for significantly cheaper in K-Town. My partner and I came for dinner on Saturday night, and though the crowds were unsurprising, it also felt unnecessarily crowded because the tables are really close together. We didn't have any trouble hearing each other, though, which is a plus. We also received excellent service: our server checked in on us often, and our water glasses were always full. For food, we ordered the Gamja buchim ($24) and Dukboki fundido ($19) to start. The gamja buchim comes with what are essentially three small latkes with a slice of raw tuna on top -- pretty tasty, though nothing mind-blowing. The dukboki fundido is like a heavier, cheesier version of traditional dukboki. The flavors were punchy, but felt a bit ham-fisted -- this tasted like something I could have made quite easily at home. For entrees, we ordered the Daegu jorim ($38) and Suun dubu ($36). The deagu jorim is a braised cod with peppers, onions, and a large slice of radish. The sauce was pretty good, but the fish itself was bland on the inside, with a rubbery texture. The suun dubu was a disappointment, pretty bland overall. The highlight of the meal was the cocktails. The NY Sleepover ($18) was tasty, like a traditional sour, but the The Squid & The Whale ($19) was a huge hit -- really inventive, and manages to be both light (with the lemongrass) and rich (with the sesame oil). We ended up ordering two. All things considered, we ended up spending around $200 for the two of us. For the price point, I just don't think the food was particularly outstanding -- particularly in NYC!
Aside from the prices, which are exorbitant, there are several reasons to enjoy Haenyeo, number one the service, which was extraordinary. Our server Ivy could not have been kinder, even picking up on the fact that it was my wife's birthday from a snippet of conversation (a pannna cotta bowl arrived at the end of the meal). My bulgogi bowl was well prepared and attractively laid out, from the lettuce leaves to the umami sauce. I'm not a huge fan of the slightly burnt taste of this beef but it was plentiful, which helps. Wife enjoyed her sashimi bowl and only wishes there was more kimchi on the side. Decor is minimal but we spent a good deal of time debating whether the wall mountings were moss or broccoli.
This was tasty Korean food on the slightly upscale side. Japchae - great texture on the noodles and distinct sesame notes. Really well done. Tteokbokki fundido - the vegetarian option is pretty much just regular tteokbokki with cheese over the top. It was spicy and a little sweet, with plenty of richness from the cheese. Good, but not groundbreaking. Yachae paju - crispy, with a nice savory and sour sauce on the side. Also great with the leftover sauce from the tteokbokki. This was definitely on the expensive side at about $67 after tax and tip, but I thought the meal was well executed overall.
I visited this place to see if it was worth the hype. I started with the Dukboki Fundido from the appetizer menu, as well as the Daegu Jorim & Hwe Dup Bop. The Dukboki Fundido was quite unique with a fusion twist that included chorizo. The portion was on the smaller side with the limited number of rice cakes, but the flavor so delicious & worth trying. I also tried the Daegu Jorim, which turned out to be my favorite. The dish included the codfish braised in chili & daikon, with a spicy sauce that complemented the cod. It paired well with the Hwe Dup Bop that included salmon sashimi, spicy cod roe, toasted seaweed, vegetables, and rice. Overall, the meal was well made & tasted really good. One callout is that the meal is on the pricier side..For two people (one appetizer and two entrées), the total came to over $100, so it's something to consider before coming here.
Food/drinks: LOVED like seriously LOVED. Nothing missed!! And their kimchi has a unique flavor it was so good. I'm coming back to try all their other menu items! Atmosphere: loved the interior! It's very cozy and upscale at the same time! Also very lively! Would definitely go on a date here or have a birthday Service: great service! Waiter went over menu and recommended pairings etc Price: worth it
Extremely good food alongside extremely small portions for quite expensive prices. HUGE expectations for this restaurant given all the awards. Additionally, quite disappointed with the service and realized that it was quite mid because we were a group of 8 and they charge 20% gratuity to any group over 6. For context, our waiter took our order after waiting 30 minutes and then never checked up on us once or asked us for additional drinks. The main component here though-- the food. This food was really really good. We ordered a decent amount but probably could've gotten more for all of us. Pajun pancake, dukobi fundido, kalbi jjim, uni bibimbap, and tofu. Japchae and bulgogi were also thrown on after our waiter recommended these dishes. I'd pass on them in the future. We finished the meal with beignets. Highlights: uni bibimbap and tofu. The bibimbap had a great balanced, umami flavor the paired very well with all the veggies. The fried tofu with mushrooms was also GREAT. They cooked it perfectly and seasoned it really well. Bulgogi, japchae, pajun pancake, kalbi jjim, and dukobi were all OK, but nothing that would blow your mind. Lastly and a quite unfortunately the beignets were fried for too long and weren't as fluffy as we were hoping. If price wasn't a factor the pure food gets 4.5/5 Pricing was 2/5 as each dish was $15-$45 Service of this place 3/5 Overall: 3/5
We spent a chilly winter night feasting at Haenyeo with snow flakes gently brushing by the windows of our restaurant . We felt very fortunate to be in the warm cozy environment . Friday nights at Haenyeo guarantee a packed restaurant buzzing with the chatter of New Yorkers . Everyone excitedly digging into Korean comfort food. The seafood stew was my favorite dish . Bulgolgi nothing to write home about . Great spot in the neighborhood. Good service when you can finally get the attention of the ever busy servers .
For a highly awarded restaurant, I was disappointed. As other reviews mentioned, you are paying a lot for a little-- the portion sizes are shockingly small, like $16 for four wings. Our favorite was the wings, but we also ordered a seafood soup and uni bibimbap. The seafood soup was too fishy for my preference, and the bibimbap was just okay. I think the uni was easily masked by the other ingredients. The menu rotates frequently, and you can check online before you go. There may be a long wait, but we opted to sit at the bar since we were just a party of 2. We felt pressured to order drinks and rushed throughout the whole meal. With so many great restaurants nearby, and a great K-town that we can make a trip to, I don't know if I'll be back.
I've heard such great things about Haenyeo, but unfortunately it just didn't live up to the hype for me. With charging such ridiculously high prices for the portion size, I would expect the food and service to be immaculate. Instead, it was just....eh. Nothing really stood out to me in terms of flavor. Maybe, if anything, I would want the Schoolgirl cocktail (not pictured) again, but that's the only memorable food/drink item from this experience. Nothing was inherently bad about the food, I've just had more flavorful food in other Korean restaurants for a fraction of the price. The real reason for 3 stars is because throughout the entire service I felt rushed and unwanted as a customer. Upon walking in the host questioned us (myself + one other person) if we had a reservation. Looking around, the restaurant was empty aside from one other table. We would understand the importance of a reservation if the restaurant had significant wait times and was busy, but for a weeknight and not wanting to seat us without a reservation when there were countless empty tables..it definitely left a bad taste. After ultimately being seated, I thought the service was great - the waiter was attentive, checking up on us every few minutes. As dinner went on we realized that the attentiveness turned into being rushed, with the waiter approaching us every 5 minutes to ask if we were done eating (no, we hadn't even made a dent in our food yet.) We were not the only guests dining in the establishment - at this point, there were 3 other tables - none of which seemed to be rushed to the extent we were. It led us to even feel as if we couldn't ask where the bathroom was after paying because the staff wanted us out of the restaurant that bad. Maybe I'd consider coming back here if there was a significant change in customer service?
The venue has nice decor. The waitress really knew the menu which you don't always find these days. She was able to describe things and suggest things with confidence. The beignets were almost as good as the ones in NOLA. I would definitely come back.
I heard really great things about Haenyeo so ultimately I was expecting a little more. The ambiance is super cozy inside and lit by candles so it's dark and intimate. We had a reservation at 615 and shared the japchae and the watercress salad as appetizers. I liked both of these dishes but I was disappointed by the entrees. My husband and I got the tofu bibimbop and tofu chigae and unfortunately both dishes were really bland. Thankfully they bought out a little plate of kimchi and two other plates of banchan. The kimchi saved the bibimbop by adding some flavor. I expected the chigae to be spicy because it explicitly says so but it was actually sour and not at all spicy, no kick no heat. You're paying for a more upscale dining and I'm not sure it was worth it.
Reviews are generally positive. Many highlight the attentive and friendly service, creative and flavorful food, and a cozy and lively ambiance. Cocktails are also praised for their inventiveness.

A little pricey, but one of the top 3 Asian restaurants in Brooklyn/Parkslope. If you just want to try a few dishes, I must the chorizo rice cakes (or chive pancake), bibimbap, and beignets. - Chorizo spicy rice cakes: a MUST TRY. I normally don't like Korean rice cakes but this has single-handedly changed my mind. It was perfectly cooked (not too chewy or thick). The spicy sauce paired beautifully with the cheese and the chorizo was truly chef's kiss. I would come back here just to order this dish and leave. - Chive pancake: So crispy and flavorful for something so simple! - Salad: it was plated nicely but it was average. I recommend skipping this. - Bibimbap: Delicious and I love the crispy rice from the stone pot! Although this is a relatively simple dish, you could tell they put care into preparing each ingredient. - Pork (comes with lettuce and sesame leaves to wrap): The marinade/sauce was addicting! Pork can get very fatty but this was cooked really well. - Beignets: OMG My friend said these are better than the ones at Cafe du Monde in New Louisiana. It's coated in powder sugar but I promise it's not overly sweet. It's fluffy and just melts in your mouth. If you're up for something new, try asking for a side of sliced lemons to slightly squeeze on top! read more

Lovely ambiance, especially when there aren't many "nice" spots in this area, but the food we tried wasn't that flavorful As a disclaimer, I'm a vegetarian who eats limited fish so the menu was very limiting for me as there are no vegetarian entree. While the scallion pancake type appetizer was very tasty, it was pretty standard. My sashimi type bowl was fresh but not particularly special and not worth $36 to me. The other two folks with me similarly thought their dishes were good quality, but not memorable All in all, we may have not ordered the best dishes but with a never ending to eat list, it's very unlikely I'll be returning here read more
Food (4/5): - We got the yache pajun, ojingo bibimbop, and bulgogi - Yache pajun: tastes fine, but I've had better and it's quite forgettable. Portion size is small and can *potentially* be shared by two people if one person in the group isn't that hungry. Overall, skip. - Ojingo bibimbop: I actually really enjoyed this! Loved the spicy + sweet + savory flavors. I think this is worth trying and could be shared by two people but only if you're getting other entrees (which is a must for this restaurant) - Bulgogi: really enjoyed the traditional, sweet marinade they used. Loved it with the lettuce wraps too while other people in my party enjoyed it better with the perilla leaves. Decently shareable between two people. - This place is pricey for sure so prepare your wallet - The portion sizes are also small. Our server recommended 1 appetizer and 1 entree per person. Our party of 2 felt comfortably full with two entrees and one appetizer - Though the food was good, I've had better for much cheaper elsewhere. Therefore, even though the food was good on its own, I think there are other restaurants that are better both in taste and value for your money - Very few side dishes. We got 3 total side dishes and they were super small in terms of portion sizes. Service (4/5): - Slow service though they got better towards the end when more people started leaving. To be fair, it was decently packed for a weekday night - Took quite some time for our food to come out - Otherwise, they were pretty friendly Ambiance (5/5): - This is probably where they shine. The vibes are modern, classy, and romantic - While the vibes are perfect for a date night, I can't recommend bringing a first date here because the service is quite slow - I would say go here if you *really* want to try it. I'm not sure I can recommend going with a big group either since the service is a bit slow. I would recommend maybe a party of 1-3 maaaybbeee 4 max Overall, if you just really want to try this place, I do still think it's worth a try. The food is delicious, but it's hard to justify its value when there are so many great Korean restaurants elsewhere with bigger portions, equally or more delicious food, and for a cheaper price. For this reason, I give it a 3 stars. If you are craving Korean food, go somewhere else or just order delivery somewhere else. read more
I'm embarrassed as to how long it took me to visit this highly regarded Park Slope establishment, and I can say that it was worth the hype. Solid modern twist on classic Korean food. For our meal, we opted to go a little more traditional (soondubu and bulgogi) rather than modern (tteokbokki fundido and duck breast). We also ordered the grilled oysters which was easily my favorite bite of the meal. Perfect salinity on the oysters with a very flavorful seaweed butter. The soondubu was a spicy cauldron of big flavors. There was seafood and pork along with the tofu and egg. The bulgogi was well seasoned and well executed, nothing too crazy to blow your socks off. The cocktails were also very well crafted and delicious. Wonderful place for a romantic date night. read more
We went here for boyfriend's birthday and loved it. We heard about it for two reasons: the scallion pancakes and the Merle the Pearl drink. So we got both and of course they were great. Also recommend the spicy margarita as well. It's ultimately a smaller, more intimate space, but we didn't feel like we were yelling to hear each other or that other people were seated too close to us. Our server was awesome, she was very kind, attentive, and someone we would go on to describe as "great vibes." Boyf got the duck, I got a vegetarian bimimbap which was not on the menu but they were happy to accommodate. You could get it with tofu and with an egg or no egg depending on if you're vegan. Or just hate eggs. . Anyway, loved it here. The whole evening really felt like a special occasion and we both left feeling really happy (and very full). read more

I've been here multiple times and 10/10 would recommend. Food is delicious, staff is very attentive, and the experience is so great. The beignets are an absolute must!! read more
The food here is SO GOOD. Portions not overwhelming and overly large, very complex and delicate flavors. The sable fish had a wonderfully crispy surface and flaky soft inside. The dukboki super cheesy and spicy, amazing. Cocktails also very good! The rose gin based one was very strong. It was very crowded and busy but servers were very friendly. The space is small and rustic with representative art on the wall. So lovely and want to come again! read more

A gem in the Park. My second visit to Haenyeo and just as memorable as the first. The food is amazingly delicious - he cheesy fundido, with just the right amount of spice, the amazing bibimbop, and the bulgogi - still can't pick a favorite because all the flavors continue to excite my taste buds and leave me wanting more. I guess we'll definitely have to return . The ambiance is comforting and relaxing, leaving you wanting to come back and bring more friends to share this amazing place with. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Can't wait to come back again! I can almost taste the fundido already read more
Haenyeo is a classy combination of Korean and Mexican cuisine, though focus more on the Korean and add a spice of Mexican flavor in there. DRINKS - As kiddy as it sounds, the school cocktail was my fave of the night. The whale was not bad either and was not too strong of an alcohol taste. The pineapple cocktail had only a mild taste of pineapple - really like none at all, so I won't recommend if you're looking for that pineapple taste. FOOD I really liked the appetizers much more than the entrees, although the entrees weren't bad in their own regard. The tteokbokki was my favorite dish - it comes in a small stone bowl and stays warm for a while. The cheese melts so well and you can tell it has some Mexican inspiration in this dish. The rice cakes themselves snd super chewy (when fresh). The panjeon is fried in a different way than I've had before - not as light fried, but still very crispy and petite slices. The fluke was ok - it looked better in the photos than the taste. There was not much flavor as I would have liked/appreciated. The bulgogi, although with the classic sweet and savoury taste, had too much sauce. It was overpowering. The sushi was alright - it was not overly impressive but it met the expectations of what was on the menu. If I were to do it again, I would focus more on the appetizers and get more of those than the entrees. DESSERT The beignets were AMAZING. They were warm and fresh, sugar dusted with hollow centers. They were dare I say perfect. If I could come more often to get these to take out I would. read more

This is a newish restaurant that opened in Park Slope in the last year. There's not a lot of Korean restaurants in Brooklyn, so I was excited to try this welcome addition to the neighborhood. We didn't have a reservation, so we walked in around 6pm on a Friday looking for an outdoor table. We got seated immediately, and were probably one of the last outdoor tables that they had available. It was a cooler night, so my friend and I both ordered stews for our entrees. Service was pleasant and efficient. Tables are all appropriately spaced out, and staff are in masks. My friend got the spicy kimchi stew, while I had the soondubu jigae. Both our stews were served steaming hot, and were very flavorsome. Prices were very reasonable. Would recommend this place for a traditional Korean meal in Brooklyn. read more
Decor, service, flavor, presentation- check check check. The fundido is the most popular item for a reason: strong umami and spicy. The dukboki has the perfect chew and the size is sufficient leaving you wanting more over rice. Cheese on top- excellent. Wings were delicious. Sweet and crispy- they know something about balance here and veer a bit on the sweet side (my side) even with their banchan- jus roasted black beans, teeny anchovies, a delish seaweed but I think I'm just calling it that and delish kimchi- sweet tho. I love it. Sablefish was done to perfection. Bulgogi was equally well marinaded and seared. What they didn't give u in quantity in our other items they made up for by a heap of rib eye. Not complaining. Alas the beignets that brought us here. Was not mind-blowing as one had hoped but fried dough drowned in powder sugar? A toddler could do this n Not mess up.. or arguably elevate it! Drinks had the coolest names and were well thought out... except the school girl! The wine was strong enough to hide lychee and elderflower notes- um... am I jus drinking straight Prosecco? Ha- maybe remake this one but otherwise- this place is spectacular! read more
I am still thinking about my meal there. The service was amazing. we had cocktail St. Rose, the rose wine, crispy wings, bibimpbap, and the duck breast. For dessert the sesame creme brûlée. the cabin was a perfectly warm safe place to dine, the food was exquisite and I can't wait to go back. The server I had was so knowledgeable and thoughtful. read more

Would give 6 stars. Cocktails: inspired. Food: inventive and delicious. Service: lovely. We walked in without a reservation and they sat us at the communal table and were so gracious and welcoming. Haenyeo was a great experience. Sat at the bar for my meal. The wait staff were extremely nice and you could tell they also enjoyed working with each other. Extremely pleasant experience. I've been wanting to try this place forever. And my husband finally agreed to try it. I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to get something spicy because my sinuses had been bothering me all day. When we got there, there was a family in the corner. The toddler screamed bloody murder every 5 seconds throughout the entire meal. Couldn't help but feel bad for the parents. They were trying to calm the kid down. And the kid was quiet for a time but then started screaming again. I'm all for kids and taking your kids to restaurants. But if he/she is going to scream constantly and ruin the dining experience of others, maybe take the child outside to calm them down or ask to be seated outside. Don't try to reason with a toddler. You won't win. Other than that the food was really delicious. I really enjoyed the banchan, the side dishes. My husband got the bulgogi beef and I got the spicy squid. It definitely cleared out my sinuses. Both dishes were really good. We also got the beignets. I said no chocolate sauce but I don't know if the guy didn't hear me or just ignored it, because they brought the chocolate sauce out anyways. We weren't sure if maybe they heard us and it was on the house, so we ate it. We probably should've said something because they charged us for it. $4 for chocolate sauce is a little ridiculous. I regret not saying anything. Anywho, the beignets were absolutely covered with a thick layer of powdered sugar, like way too much. They were good don't get me wrong, but it was just so much powdered sugar. Not sure if I'd return here again but maybe for a special occasion. And their cocktails are good. read more
I'm sorry but how is this restaurant not $$$? Considering the price points and the very very small portions, I don't think what we ordered was worth it. Please come here only if you make six figures. I have to give points to Haenyeo for creating a nice atmosphere with the dim lights and candles placed on our table for the dinner course. The service was great too as the waitress checked our table pretty frequently. However, that's all the positive brownie points. Now let's get down to the details. My friend and I ordered the cranky pants and school girl cocktails. They were really sweet and we could barely taste the alcohol in this. If that's what you're down for, go for it but no for us. Ok so you may have seen the dukboki in previous reviews. The dukboki ($16) is served in a super small Korean pot. For $16, there was literally only 8 pieces of rice cake and a slap of cheese on top. Excuse me but am I paying $2 each per piece of rice cake? I wouldn't even call this an appetizer. The crispy wings were alright. It's passable (crispy but something is missing) but you wouldn't be mad getting it but still like would you be mad at it being average ? The Bulgogi is pretty sweet. There was nothing wrong with it. Just your standard bulgogi but there was legit only 6 pieces of lettuce for this much bulgogi. Again, pass for $29. Definitely not worth it for $29. The kimchi jigae was very sour. Maybe I'm used to msg jigae but I'm not sure if this is good or not. The kimchi was definitely quite fresh though. Thank you for not messing up my favorite dish. I would recommend getting the bibimbop because the ingredients were quite fresh. However for $22, I think the portion was very small. Plus, there weren't a lot of banchans. Usually, there would be a table of banchans but there was only around 4. This is definitely not the Korean experience I was imagining. I would come back only if the price justifies the portion size and quality of the food. Currently, it's a no for me. read more

This place has good Korean fusion food (Michelin recommended), but expect it to be more western than Korean. All the dishes were good, but on the smaller end and I wouldn't say any of them was particularly memorable for me. My favorite from my orders was the duck breast and the kimchi appetizer. Overall yummy and good environment, but definitely pricey for the portions! read more
HMMMM, where to start? The vibes were definitely cozy and a little more higher class than your typical Korean restaurant. It wasn't labeled as such but this felt like an Asian fusion instead of authentic korean! What we ordered: Dukboki Fundido ($16) Crispy Wings ($12) Bulgogi ($29) Tofu Bibimbop ($22) Kimchi Jigae ($19) Drinks: Cranky pants cocktail ($15) School girl cocktail ($14) GL La Bernarde ($13) Okay, the photos were a total lie because when the dukboki came out, the bowl was the size of our hand! And us girls got REALLY TINY hands. It was definitely not enough for 4 people to share as an appetizer, we each got maybe 1-2 rice cakes and that was it. Flavor wise, she was spicy and the chorizo and oaxaca cheese really gave it a Mexican kick to it. It wasn't bad at all but the portion size was so underwhelming. The wings were pretty delicious and crispy but again, why so small?? It was smaller than our palms! The Kimchi Jigae was my least favorite. 0/10 for me. It was incredibly sour. We were only given 2 small bowls of rice that had maybe 3 bites of rice... again, not really shareable amongst our group. The bulgogi was kind of pricey but she was delicious! My friends thought it was too sweet though. We were given a pail that came with like 4 lettuce leaves. Again, not enough!! ): and omg when the banchan came out, what is this selection? Super small bowls with kidney beans, tiny anchovies and some pickled veggies. Now here comes my favorite: tofu Bibimbop! I usually hate bibimbop but this tofu and zucchini with the sauce mixed together was so refreshing and filling. Made me feel healthy!! But honestly, $22 is kind of pricey for veggies and rice like excuse me? Overall, ridiculously small portions for the price! I don't think there were enough servers for the night either. As for the alcohol, my friends didn't think it was strong enough and when they asked to make it stronger, there was going to be an extra charge. Come here if you only want fancy vibes, otherwise, it's a pass for me. read more
We went to Haenyeo in January 2020 for a friend's birthday. It was very busy that Saturday night, the staff was accommodating in getting our reservation table even when a few of us were coming in late. Our waiter was friendly, the restaurant was a bit loud and we practically had to talk louder to hear each other. The food was moderate where you can find in many Korean restaurant, but the selection was limited and over priced. There was an appetizer with the crab claws dish and a butter dish. It was delicious, but I don't think it's on the menu anymore. This is a good spot to be with hanging out, just not in a large group because the restaurant might get busy quickly. I would suggest to look at the menu ahead of time if you want to look for Korean food. There might be more of a bigger selection elsewhere. read more

Nouvelle & Korean Fusion I made a list of 5 restaurants on Yelp I wanted to dine at with the wife while in Brooklyn. After reading the reviews of Haenyeo, I had to put it on the list. **As a Louisiana native, a couple of things on the Menu caught my attention. Bouillabaisse & Beignets. The restaurant opened at 5pm. I wanted to get there early so we could secure a table inside the restaurant. Rain was in the forecast. Hostess: On arrival (5:37pm) the hostess asked for our vaccination cards to be seated inside. We showed her our cards and she gladly escorted us to our table. We scanned the QR code on the table and began browsing the menu. Atmosphere: Cool vibe. This is a great place to stop by for a meal before heading to the movies... There was only 1 server in the restaurant when we arrived. With the outdoor seating filling fast only certain tables received attention. The owner just stood staring out the front door and around the restaurant as if in panic mode. Server: The server on the floor when we arrived took our order. Another server arrived after the appiteaser was served... Too many guests for the servers to provide proper service to ALL tables. Appiteaser: We had the fried scallops. On the plate were TWO (2) SCALLOPS less than 2" in diameter. $7.00 PER BITE... Can't remember what it tasted like. The food runner dropped the plate off and the bus boy was right behind him to pick it up. Entrées: Bouillabaisse (French Fish Stew) and Ojingeo Bokkeum (Sautéed Squid). The Boullabaisse should be described as Jjamppong (Korean Seafood Soup without the Noodles). This is not Bouillabaisse just because croutons are added on top and void of noodles. Not a dish worthy of the name. If you are looking for a smaller light version of Jjamppong, this dish is for you. The sautéed squid was spicy how I like it and very flavorful. It's not traditional due to the vegetables used. Korean stir-fry typically would be served with the vegetable au jus created during the sautée process. It goes well with the rice. That was missing. What I thought I was getting: https://www.koreanbapsang.com/ojingeo-bokkeum-korean-spicy-stir-fried/ Banchan: Korean side dishes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banchan If you are looking for an authentic Korean restaurant to dine at, this would not be my first choice. But, if you are looking for a place to drop by and eat something light before heading to a pre-planned event, this might be your place. read more

Elevated cuisine doesn't have to come at an exorbitant cost and Haenyeo truly exhibits that. From Kawi to Gopchang to Haenyeo, I've had my fair share of Korean food this week, and every time I've been exposed to new flavors, textures and ingredients. It goes to show the breadth of the cuisine, and just how far chefs in this city are pushing the envelope showcasing new dishes. Everything I tried here was exciting and flavorful, and since I went with 3 people I had the opportunity to try multiple dishes. They brought out some little banchan plates, which included kimchi, egg, seaweed, and ferns. Even this little amuse-bouche was exciting in terms of flavor and indicative of the quality of the meal to come. We started with the spicy rice cake fundido with chorizo. This is dukkboki with cheese and chorizo, and you can't really go wrong with it. Easily shareable and really good. The codcake fillets were simple and fresh. They paired really well with the sweet soy dipping sauce it came with. Next we had the mackerel, which our server recommended getting braised instead of grilled since it's less fishy this way. This was a good call because it wasn't fishy at all and the sauce was so flavorful and delicious eaten with rice. Lastly we had the seafood bouillabaise, an enormous portion of clams, mussels, shrimp, cod fish and rice cakes. There was plenty of seafood to go around for the 3 of us. We had fun fishing for rice cakes, which were so flavorful from sitting in the broth. This was probably the best dish of the night. We didn't have room for dessert, though there was much talk of getting the sesame creme brulee and beignets. Next time! The ambience in here was very warm and comfortable. I'd gladly go back to try one of their cocktails and any of their other dishes. read more
I was really looking forward to enjoy this meal. I came across the packed restaurant when I was in the area to have dinner at Sofreh. Like any other Asian person, I assumed a full restaurant meant a good restaurant, so I immediately made a reservation for a month out. The food was okay; I could get stronger flavors in ktown for less $. I was excited for the cheese dukboki, but the flavors were too simple... like if you taco bell-ed korean food. Sad to say I won't be back :( 1. Hwe dop bop (tuna sashimi, perilla, toasted seaweed cold rice bowl) $29 2. Dukboki fundido (saucy & spicy rice cake, chorizo, Oaxaca cheese) $16 3. Yache pajun (zucchini, chili pepper scallion pancake) $16 read more
We came to Harnyeo as a group of 4 on a Wednesday. Most of their tables were full so I am glad we had a reservation! Service was fantastic and the ambiance is lovely so before seeing any of the food you can tell you're in for a fun experience. I shared two small plates (the rice cake fundido and the glass noodles / japchae) plus an entree with my boyfriend and this was more than enough to eat. I loved the fundido, it was a cool fusion dish and super tasty. Everything was great and I am excited to come back to try some of the cold / raw options as everything we ordered was cooked / hot. read more

After reading many articles, I knew I had to pay this restaurant a visit :) Made a reservation a month in advance pretty easily online - it was pretty full when I got there at 7:30pm so it's always a good idea to have a reso on hand. Tables are a little tight but it's a really cute space with good ambiance. The acoustics aren't the greatest so it's a bit hard to have conversations. Here is what we got to share between the 4 of us (a lot of food!!!): Crispy Spicy Yang-Yum Chicken Wings $9 Really well made, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sauce was also really bomb! Zucchini, Perilla Leaf Scallion Pancakes $12 This was lackluster, without the soy sauce, this would have tasted like nothing. Wish they could have seasoned the batter more. I also did not taste any perilla leaf flavor :( Grilled Oysters, Seaweed Butter, Brioche Toast $18 One of the standouts!!! Came out piping hot, so be careful when you pick up the oyster shell. The seaweed butter was so rich but so good! Comes with 5 oysters, but I think only 2 slices of toast. Saucy and Spicy Rice Cake Fundido, Chorizo $14 Meh, should not have ordered this. This is basically tteokbokki, so I think it was a little unnecessary to call it a fundido instead...didn't really taste any chorizo either. Sauteed Glass Noodles in Sesame $12 Yum! I've actually never had japchae hot, but I really liked it! Sesame flavor is really pronounced, which was awesome. I would probably make it slightly less sweet, but overall really great. Mackerel Grilled $24 This is what they're known for, but I personally like fall apart, super tender fish, and this was more of a rougher texture. The flavor of the mackerel was great, especially after being grilled. Codfish Filets, Light Scallion-Egg Dip $21 Probably my favorite dish of the night!!! SOOOOOO tender. Eat this while it's hot. Loooooveee the egg flavor, really reminds me of a taiwanese omelette dish that is made out of eggs and pickled radish :) Haenyeo's Spicy Bouillabaisse (cod fish, mussels, clams, shrimp, rice cakes) $29 Very large bowl filled with lots and lots of mussels, tasted pretty fresh. There is one mini piece of uni on top too. Remember to dip all your bread into this (or spoon this onto the rice!), the broth is full of flavors from the sea. Don't forget to scoop for the rice cakes. Spicy Thin Slices of Pork Barbecue with Ssam $28 This was very good, but I think if you were to come to a restaurant like Haenyeo, I'd stick to the more unique dishes. You can easily get this in ktown! Spicy Kimchi Stew, Pork Belly $16 Very average haha same as above, I wouldn't order these items here, if you want a stew, go to BCD! Sugar Dusted Beignets $8 So good!!! Comes with lots of powdered sugar so don't breathe when you take a bite haha. The texture is so amazing and has a nice chewiness to it, kinda tastes like there's a bit of rice flour in the dough. Must get! Service is reaaaaallllyyyy fast, meaning the dishes come out all at once. We had asked for them to slow things down but that didn't seem to change anything haha would have liked some time to enjoy each of the dishes and not rush to get to each of them so that they're still hot/warm! Not all items were standouts, but if I ever come back, there are definitely some must-order dishes on my list :). read more
This place was awesome! The service was great, the ambiance was lovely and the food was excellent! I had the fundido and wings and they were BOMB the wings were fried SO well and were amazing, the fundido was pretty spicy which I liked but too spicy for the people I was with. I also tried two different cocktails and both were unique and excellent. read more

My daughter invite me to have Dinner in these beautiful and small place. Service was immediately present. So drinks and water was always available. The food was delicious and very seasoned, in the way that really like it. Though this a little pricey is totally worth trying. Just really enjoy the ambience and the food.
